2018 Ford Edge

Defect. Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2015-2019 Lincoln MKC, Mustang, F-350 SD, F-250 SD, F-450 SD, 2015-2017 Lincoln Navigator, Expedition, 2015-2018 Edge, Transit Connect, 2016-2019 F-550 SD, Transit, 2017-2019 Econoline, and 2019 Ranger vehicles. The rearview camera may display a distorted, inverted, or blank image when the vehicle is in reverse.

Risk. A rearview camera that displays an inverted, distorted, or blank image can reduce the driver’s view behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy. Dealers will inspect and replace the rearview camera as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed January 13, 2026. Ford owners will receive letters in phases, beginning January 2026 and June 2026. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 25S89. This recall expands previous NHTSA recall number 25V270. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall will be searchable on NHTSA.gov beginning September 8, 2025.

Defect. Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2016-2018 Lincoln MKX and 2015-2018 Edge vehicles. The rear brake jounce hose may rupture and leak brake fluid.

Risk. A brake fluid leak can extend the distance required to stop the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy. Dealers will inspect and replace the brake jounce hoses and adjust brake jounce hoses with no damage present, free of charge. Interim owner letters notifying owners of the safety risk were mailed September 8, 2025. Additional letters will be sent once the remedy is available, anticipated August 2026. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 25S87.

Defect. Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2019 Escape, 2013-2018 C-Max, 2013-2016 Fusion, 2013-2021 Transit Connect, and 2015-2018 Edge vehicles. The bushing that attaches the shifter cable to the transmission may degrade or detach.

Risk. A damaged or missing bushing may prevent the vehicle from shifting into the intended gear, and cause the vehicle to move in an unexpected direction. Additionally, the vehicle may roll after the driver selects the 'Park' position. Either scenario increases the risk of a crash or injury.

Remedy. Dealers will replace the under hood shift bushing and add a protective cap over the shift cable bushing, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters, informing owners of the safety risk, were mailed July 1, 2022. Remedy parts are expected to be available in 4th Quarter 2022. Owner notification letters were mailed October 27, 2022. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 22S43.

Defect. Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2015-2018 Ford Edge and 2016-2018 Lincoln MKX vehicles. The front brake hoses may rupture prematurely.

Risk. A ruptured front brake hose will cause a brake fluid leak, lengthening the distance needed to stop the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy. Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front brake hoses with the new hoses that have a revised braid material, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on May 13, 2021. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 20S42.

Defect. Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2018 Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX vehicles. These vehicles may have door striker bolts that are shorter than intended. Vehicles with shorter door striker bolts fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 206, "Door Locks and Door Retention Components" potentially resulting in the doors opening in the event of a crash.

Risk. If the doors open in the event of a crash, there is an increased risk of injury.

Remedy. Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the door striker bolts, free of charge. The recall began October 18, 2018. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 18C06.

Defect. Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2018 Ford Edge, Lincoln MKX, 2019 Ford Flex, and Lincoln MKT vehicles. The power supply cables at the starter and the alternator may not have been properly secured, possibly resulting in an electrical arc.

Risk. An electrical arc can increase the risk of a fire.

Remedy. Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the alternator and starter motor power supply cables to verify that they are properly secured, correcting them as necessary, free of charge. The recall began September 26, 2018. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 18S25.

Defect. Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2017-2018 Ford Edge and 2017 Lincoln MKZ vehicles. On vehicles with 2.0L gas engines and six-speed automatic transmissions, the torque converter weld studs may have been inadequately welded.

Risk. If the torque converter weld studs fail, the torque converter will not be connected to the engine flexplate and the vehicle will lose the ability to move, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy. Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the torque converters, free of charge. The recall began on July 5, 2018. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 17S16 (S2). Note: This recall is an expansion of recall 17V-427.

Coolant leak into cylinder 4 of engine has caused a diagnostic for engine to have to be replaced. My car has 58,105 miles on it. This is well below the mileage limit of a standard power train life. It is my understanding that car could power down at any time so it is dangerous to continue driving. Ford needs to be held accountable as I read there are numerous instances of this happening and it is a problem for this model. A safety recall should take place. Unacceptable quality of material and design has caused problems both in the past and for future instances and could endanger people driving on the highway and in traffic if engine would power down.

On September 11, 2026, my 2018 Ford Edge with approximately 126,000 miles began shaking and the check-engine light came on. There were no earlier warnings. I am concerned the engine could lose power while driving. I took it to a Ford dealership, where the advisor verbally confirmed coolant inside an engine cylinder and reported codes P0302 and P0316. The repair was quoted at $8,600 before taxes, and repair assistance was denied. The only other recent inspection was a registration inspection a few months earlier.

I had two incidents when I suddenly lost forward power. One was in town and lost power and was almost rear ended by another vehicle. Another incident was when I was on the interstate and lost forward power and had to get off the road because of the traffic until I could get forward movement again. I felt that this loss of power did put myself and others at risk. I also noticed rough idling and took it to the dealer. The first time, they could not get it to act up. Then I had an check engine light come on. I took it into the dealer and they replaced wires to different cylinder (cylinder 2 was affected). Less than a month later, I noticed surging while driving and then the engine light came on again. I took it back to the dealer and they notified me that it was coolant intrusion and needed a new engine at 52,000 miles. I felt unsafe in the vehicle with the surging and loss of power. Not only to myself but also to the other drivers on the road. I have since parked the vehicle out of concern.

My 2018 Ford Edge Titanium experienced a catastrophic engine failure due to a known manufacturing defect involving coolant intrusion into the cylinders. The defect caused the vehicle to become inoperable and required a complete replacement of the 2.0L EcoBoost engine (Service Engine Assembly Part # J2GZ6006E) at 110,821 miles. The total out-of-pocket repair cost was $7,712.78. This sudden loss of engine power poses a severe safety risk on the road.

Engine light came on, shuttering, white smoke. Had spark plugs replaced-didn’t help. Googled to see what might be wrong and found the coolant leak issue. Took it to a private garage to have a coolant pressure test, it failed, did a bore scope and showed significant damage to #2 cylinder. Took it to a Ford dealership to file for a goodwill assist and was turned down because “the car is too old and too many miles”. I am a veteran, on a fixed income, and cannot afford to pay for a new motor. I bought this car for myself on my 78th birthday, trading in my 2006 F-150, with almost 200,000 miles, for my dream car. Now I’ve spent $11,500 and have nothing.

Ford admits "known manufacturing defect" on Eco-Boost 2.0 engine. Coolant intrusion into engine. Coolant getting into combustion chamber, at only 28K miles on my own Ford Edge. Complaints all over the internet & "[XXX]" about this. Known to cause engine fires. Requires EXPENSIVE "long block assembly replacement". Coolant intrusion on cylinder 1.

The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, the vehicle made an abnormal knocking sound with smoke coming from the tailpipe. The check engine warning light and overheating warning light were illuminated, and the contact became aware of an abnormal odor during the failure. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, where it was diagnosed that the head gasket had failed, causing coolant intrusion into the engine cylinders and engine failure. The vehicle was repaired. The contact associated the failure with NHTSA Action Number: DP26008 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The manufacturer, Ford Motor Company, was notified of the failure by phone and provided partial assistance for the repair. The failure mileage was approximately 71,224.

The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving 60 MPH, the coolant temperature warning light illuminated. The contact stated that immediately after the failure, the vehicle failed to accelerate and sputtered abnormally. The vehicle was restarted and taken to a service center to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that coolant was leaking into the engine block, causing engine failure. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.

The car is 8 years old, well maintained and has mileage of @ 57,000 miles. The "engine check" lighted up in July 2026. Initial check simply required a replacement of spark plug and ignition coil. It was done immediately. However, the engine check light that initially disappeared returned 2 weeks after. When brought to a Ford Dealer, the diagnostic is TSB22-2229 (coolant intrusion in the engine). I was quoted to replace then engine by Ford at the cost of $13,000 or trade it in for $2,500!!! I read many reports of engine stall/overheating due to this problem, and it has become a major safety issue specially that this issue is proven to be a legally established engine design flaw. I do not recall that Ford, over the years, properly inform users of this coolant intrusion into the engine. As I saw safety incidents report regarding this, I made the decision to report this given that I belong to the apparent @500,000 Ford vehicles affected by this. The engine check was on and off and I could have been into a major accident, not knowing the engine can possibly stall while on a high speed. Seeking your help and attention as I believe this is a Safety Recall that Ford should have done years ago. Ford Edge continues to be traded in the secondary market. Kindly think those who may purchase this vehicle without knowing the engine has safety issues with coolant intrusion.

I have the 2.0 Ecoboost that is the subject of internal coolant leak with a potential diagnosis that matches the TRB on this issue. The car has 50K miles and is a 2018 Edge. If this is the issue it should be fixed by Ford without the need for me as an owner to foot the bill for their poor design especially since it was know for a couple years prior by Ford before I purchased this vehicle new. NHTSA should certainly force a recall. At this point it was noted by the dealer during servicing that we were low on coolant.

Coolant reservoir is disappearing and I have a check engine light on with a misfire code

When started vehicle shook violently. Check engine light came on and we took the vehicle to two different mechanics. Both stated engine failure do to coolant intrusion. Needed to replace long block and quoted at least $7000 in repairs. This has been a known issue with these motors yet no recall has been issued. We also contacted our local Ford dealer and they also said we needed a new motor. We reached out to Ford for assistance in covering the cost and were told there was nothing they could do for us. This is our childs school car and I do not feel safe with her driving even to and from school. We have been the owners for 2 years. 2018 Ford Edge Titanium 2.0 Ecoboost engine. 120k miles.

I had my engine replaced due to coolant intrusion on my 2018 ford edge in 2023 at Serra Ford in Sylacauga, Alabama.

Rear drivers side brake line ruptured, leaving the vehicle unsafe to drive. The ruptured happened at a bend in the hard brake line at the top of the gas tank.

On the dash board, it displayed a severe warning regarding "engine over temprature" that caused due to the engine coolant intrusion in to the cylinder 2 and caused it to misfire and the engine light to be displayed. After time and money consuming rigorous effort, each and individual parts of the engine checked based on the codes displayed. And, I realized that the engine itself was actually causing the such internal critical issue. Finally, I brought it to the Ford dealership and they told me that the engine has design defect that actually causes the coolant intrusion into the cylinder that shouldn't happen in the first place. And I was told the engine must be replaced. Detailed analysis of the issue discloses that Ford models between 2015-2018 have the same critical issues. However, Ford Motor Company never issues a recall safety issue for such potential engine issue that affected millions of Americans who have these models. I can't afford to pay $10k to replace a long block engine according to the dealer final solution to fix the internal engine problem. The car is disabled and parked out side for almost close to two years now. I am seeking justice. Help.me please!

Engine developed a bad skip, dealer service originally said it was a faulty spark plug or coil on cylinder 2so they replaced those for a cost of $414 on 6/4/26. This did not fix the problem. The second diagnosis identified the engine defect that was causing the skip. They recommended an engine replacement and contacted Ford to request assistance since it's a know manufacturing defect. This request was declined. Campbell Auto Repair replaced the engine on 8/19/2026 at a cost of $6,601.68. We feel that Ford should bear the cost of these repairs.

I am filing a formal complaint for a Safety issue regarding Brakes. When turning, the "Brake Fluid Low" light would flash on for 2 seconds. It did not stay on. Brake pedal seemed normal. When inspected, there was no fluid in the Master Cylinder. No leak was detected. Fluid was in the Brake Booster. They indicated both would need to be replaced. There are 28,000 miles on the 2018 Ford Edge. My Safety and passengers was put at risk because there was no fluid and brakes could fail at any time. The Low fluid light did not stay on. This problem was confirmed at an independent service center. I am taking the vehicle to the Ford Dealer Service Department on 8.26.26 Only when turning a corner did a light come on Low Brake Fluid for 2 seconds. It is not on otherwise. I have had the oil changed and vehicle inspected and used Ford Service at the dealer "The Works" package where supposedly the brakes fluid and breaks were inspected at appropriate intervals and this was last done on 3.11.26 and it was rated as "good" by the Dealership. Based on the fact the Master Cylinder should be good for around 90,000 miles it seems defective and a safety issue. We have 28,000 miles, garage kept, well maintained vehicle Ford has issued massive safety recalls for exactly this issue on 2015–2018 Ford Edge vehicles (specifically Recall 20V-332 / Ford Campaign 20S31) However our vehicle does not fall within the date range. Known problem -The 2018 Ford Edge with the 2.0L EcoBoost engine is known for a critical design defect where coolant leaks into the cylinders due to a cracked cylinder wall or head gasket failure.
