Recalls, defect investigations and reliability rankings, each one set against what owners have actually reported to NHTSA.

  1. Investigation

NHTSA widens its GM 6.2L V8 engine probe to nearly 1 million trucks and SUVs

The 2025 recall was meant to settle it. Since then owners of these trucks have filed more engine complaints with NHTSA than in the four years before it, and regulators now want to know whether GM's fix works.

  2. Recall

September 2026 recalls: 67 campaigns, 1.92 million vehicles, and most of them Stellantis

Ten campaigns account for 1.76 million of the vehicles recalled last month. Five of the ten come from one company, and three still have no finished repair.

  3. Recall

Jeep recalls 328,381 Grand Cherokees for rear coil springs, for the third time

Two earlier recalls for the same fault did not hold. SUVs that were already repaired have to go back, and the final fix is still being worked out.

  4. Recall

Ford recalls 223,472 F-150 pickups because the fuel tank can leak or fall off

The tank may not be properly secured, so it can leak or drop onto the road. Owner letters are out, and the fix is a set of straps.

  5. Recall

Park outside, charge to 80%: two fire recalls without a fix yet

One is a seat motor that can overheat, the other a high-voltage battery. In both cases the repair is not ready, so owners are being told how to live with the risk until it is.

  6. Reliability

The most reliable car brands, according to Consumer Reports, and how many recalls each has filed this year

Toyota is back on top, every U.S. brand sits in the bottom half, and the ranking says something different from the recall record. Ford is mid-table on reliability and first by a distance on recalls.

  7. Reliability

J.D. Power 2026 dependability study: Lexus first again as problems hit a new high

Owners of three-year-old cars report more problems than ever, and most of them are about phones. The complaints the same owners file with the government are about something else.
