Power Train › Axle Assembly › Axle Shaft20V692000
Filed Nov 10, 202015,587 vehiclesFord Motor Company

Defect. Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2014-2016 Explorer, 2014-2015 Taurus and 2014 Edge vehicles equipped with 2.0L or 2.3L engines and front wheel drive. The support bracket for the front drive axle halfshaft may fail.

Risk. The failed bracket could result in a loss of park function which can cause unintended vehicle movement, and loss of motive power while driving which increases the risk of a crash.

Remedy. Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the link shaft bracket, free of charge. Parts are not currently available. Owners received an interim notification detailing safety risk December 8, 2020. A second letter will be mailed when parts become available in January 2021. The recall began February 2, 2021. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 20S63.

Defect. Ford Motor Company (Ford) notified the agency on January 8, 2015, that they are recalling certain model year 2014 Ford Escape vehicles manufactured April 15, 2014, to May 8, 2014, and 2015 Lincoln MKC vehicles manufactured April 21, 2014, to May 15, 2014. On April 30, 2015, Ford expanded the recall to cover an additional 45,505 vehicles, including certain model year 2014-2015 Ford Transit Connect vehicles manufactured November 11, 2013, to August 29, 2014, 2014-2015 Ford Fiesta vehicles manufactured April 10, 2014, to June 17, 2014 and 2014 Ford Edge vehicles manufactured April 30, 2014, to May 21, 2014. Improper nickel plating of components within the fuel pump may result in the fuel pump failing.

Risk. If the fuel pump fails, the vehicle may stall without warning, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy. Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the fuel pump, free of charge. The recall began on February 27, 2015. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 14S30.

Defect. Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2012-2014 Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX vehicles manufactured September 2, 2010, to November 30, 2013; 2013-2014 Ford Taurus and Lincoln MKS vehicles manufactured August 25, 2011, to November 30, 2013; and 2013-2014 Ford Flex and Lincoln MKT vehicles manufactured September 12, 2011, to November 30, 2013. In the affected vehicles, the halfshaft retention circlip may not have been properly installed, and as a result, the halfshaft may move outward and disengage from the linkshaft while driving and without prior warning.

Risk. If the halfshaft and linkshaft become disengaged while driving, power will no longer be transmitted to the wheels, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash. Additionally, if the parking brake is not applied before exiting the vehicle, the vehicle may roll away despite the transmission being placed in 'Park', increasing the risk of injury to exiting occupants and bystanders.

Remedy. Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the vehicles to make sure that the halfshaft is properly retained. If it is not, dealers will replace the linkshaft and also replace the halfshaft if it shows evidence of spline damage, free of charge. The recall began on August 4, 2014. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-800-392-3673. Ford's number for this recall is 14S10.

The rear reverse camera is not working. When placed in reverse, it displays a blank screen, upside down image, or on a rare occasion it shows the rear image correctly. This same issue has been recalled by ford for model years 2015 thru current. The issue has been present long before 2015. My camera stopped working in 2019 - after the warranty had expired. This issue impacts my safety when shifting into reverse. On occasion when the camera displays a correct image, I use it for backing up, but it flips or goes blank while backing up.

Filed Sep 2, 2026VA

I took my 2014 Ford Edge in for an annual inspection and discovered severe rust over the entire frame and a large hole rusted through the subframe. The rust had spread to the suspension and exhaust pipe. The car failed inspection and after seeking multiple consultations from auto body repair shops it was deemed the car needs a whole new frame, subframe, suspention within 1 year and a new exhaust pipe. I researched the issue and learned this is a widespread and reported issue with subframes and suspension mounting points on 2007–2014 Ford Edges that can suffer from severe, premature rust and structural rotting in "salt belt" states where road salt is used. My Edge was purchased from an owner in Massachusetts where they drove it for 10 years and that is a salt belt state. I can no longer drive the car because this heavy corrosion can cause the control arm or toe link bracket to separate from the rusted subframe, leading to a sudden loss of vehicle control. Ford did not to issue a formal recall for the subframe rust and instead created Customer Satisfaction Program 20N06 to explicitly address severe subframe rust. However this program only applies to cars within the 10 year warranty or less than 150K miles. My Edge is outside warranty by 1 year and only has 132K miles. There were no warning signs or communication from Ford regarding this issue and they clearly acknowledge this is manufacturer fault.

The backup camera works periodically. Over a year ago, I went to Fiesta Ford to complain but it would cost me over $1000 to repair the camera. Many rimes it will start to work and during my back up, the screen would go black. There were several times when this occurred where I almost backed into another car backing up at the same time. The message on the screen says camera currently not available.

On three separate occasions, the brake pedal has gone all the way to the floor, with braking power reduced to a scary, dangerous level. An independent mechanic ran a diagnostic scan on one of those occasions and received an ABS Module fault. They bled the system, and the brakes worked well (fault went away) -- until the next incident, in which the car decided to randomly 'fix' itself about 20 minutes later. Independent shop and the dealership performed in-depth inspections of the entire braking system and could not find the issue. This hydraulic failure is a documented safety problem on other Edge models and should be the subject of a recall for the 2014 Ford Edge.

Hissing sound still present while car in motion without touching brakes. Vehicle had to be put into neutral to stop. Backing out of driveway, vehicle continues to roll slightly even when Pedal pushed to floor. Mo warning lights have ever come on and brake fluid reservoir needs frequent additions of fluid.

In addition over the last 6 months my entire infotainment center goes black at which time I have no access to climate controls, navigation, radio or Bluetooth connections for cell phone. I’ve had some serious problems with my back up camera sometimes it blacks out and turns completely black in the middle of me backing up a few times I almost ran into a car and a person backing up and then when it goes blank all of a sudden I couldn’t see. Also sometimes the picture will turn upside down and get distorted. I was going to get it looked at and I spoke with a friend that has a 2013 Ford edge and said they were having the same problems with their back up camera. So I looked it up online and noticed there’s a recall on all backup cameras on Ford vehicles, it said it started 2015 and up, and it stated that the problems that they were having were the exact same problems that I’m having but when I put my information in, it says there’s no recall on my car so if it’s the specific year, I don’t know, but I’m obviously having the exact same problems with my backup camera and I feel like it’s dangerous and I’m sure I’m not the only vehicle that that’s happened to, especially with them having a recall on their backup cameras. I feel that ford should recall on the backup cameras for more than just the 2015 and up, my model is a 2014 Ford edge sport and definitely is having the exact same problems as the other recalls on their back up cameras

I am an automotive service technology teacher, retired. The ABS system on this vehicle failed without warning and without any trouble codes. No lights, no codes. The pedal sinks nearly to the floor, but does engage the brakes once the ABS chambers fill with fluid. But, by the time brakes begin to engage, one's heart skips a beat and it actually takes 1/2 second longer for the brakes to actually work. If not for my tall stature, I might not be able to reach the distance it takes to get hydraulic pressure. Brakes work, but marginally due to interference with floor. My research indicates this is a relatively common problem with these vehicles. Folks need to be warned! A recall is in order; at the very least a service bulletin and a customer notification. I'll fix it, but I shouldn't need to. I'll save the old unit and ship it if anybody wants to inspect it.

I purchased my 2014 Ford Edge in December 2023. March 2023, I started having issues with the driver side door lock sensor malfunction as shown in the last photo. The door would not automatically lock when I started driving, sensing that the driver’s side door was still open. It was not. I kept pushing the lock button to lock it, but it kept unlocking even while driving. Eventually it would lock. The cost to fix that was around $600 which I could not afford, and my limited warranty expired. July/August 2025 my ABS and traction control sensor lights were lit on my dash. I took the car for service and my very reputable mechanic diagnosed with no codes showing up a few times. Performed a reset twice and the lights came back on after only driving a couple of miles. He contacted Ford who advised he couldn't sell the part because there was a "national hold" on the part. On 9/2 my brakes and traction control failed resulting me rear ending another vehicle. The other safety issue is that my airbags did not deploy upon the collision. I contacted Ford Corporation and was advised that Ford will not do anything since my vehicle was older than 10 years. The vehicle is a total loss leaving me with a loan balance of approximately $4,700.00. This is neither fair nor right for a multimillion-dollar company that will not or choose not to address or acknowledge their responsibility regarding these two very serious safety issues. Since I didn’t die or get seriously hurt, I guess it’s not that big

The backup camera has stopped working. Sometimes it appears fuzzy when the car is put into reverse, other times the screen is black and says I need to contact my local dealership. The screen can also stay that way after I place the vehicle back into drive for several minutes before it goes back to the accessory screen. This issue started out as just sometimes a problem and sometimes the camera would work fine. It is at the point now that it never works anymore. I also have had issues with the rear cross traffic sensors "detecting" things when the car is in reverse that aren't there. It can be very dangerous because you think something is behind the car that is not there and can cause the driver to slam on the brakes. This issue does not happen on a regular basis, just sometimes. The vehicle is available for inspection for all problems. None of the problems have been inspected by anyone professionally yet. A Dealership has not confirmed the issues either.

When I purchased my 2014 Ford Edge SEL from North Central Ford, I informed the dealership that the backup camera consistently displayed the error message: “Camera is unavailable, please contact your dealership.” This occurred every time the vehicle was placed in reverse. Additionally, the SYNC display would become unresponsive, disabling access to the phone, climate control, radio, and other settings. The dealership refused to fix the issue and instead offered to replace the entire SYNC system with an upgrade costing around $800. This issue has persisted since purchase in January 2018. The Ford Edge has significant blind spots, and the backup camera is essential for safe reversing. I recently discovered that Ford issued a recall for similar issues, but my model is not included—even though it clearly suffers from the same defect. I request that the 2014 Ford Edge SEL be included in the recall to address this safety-critical issue.

My vehicle started having a "spongy" pedal feel when I pushed on my brakes going to work and returning home. I was going to be taking my grandchildren to Branson, MO, on Thursday morning, [XXX], and was able to get Marvin Merritt, mechanic, to look at my vehicle before leaving to make sure we would be okay traveling. Marvin notified me that my brake booster needed replace and it was not safe to travel. I made other arrangements to go to Branson. When I got back I paid Marvin for services rendered and got my letter from the Ford Motor Company Dated March 2024. I took my letter, the invoice from Marvin Merritt and turned it into Friendly Ford Dealership / Service man, Derrick and he filed a claim for me and said he did not see any reason why they would deny my claim based on the information I turned in. I waited 4 week, calling weekly for updates, before being told my claim was being denied. Derrick gave me the following number to call 1-800-392-3673 and they stated they would not honor the warrenty because it was not fixed at a Ford Dealership. I asked for an email or mailing address so I could send my information to them and was denied. She stated she would give me a claim number which was case # [XXX]. and I shared the following information on the phone. 1.“I received Ford’s March 2024 letter stating that if my vehicle had exceeded 150,000 miles, coverage would continue through November 30, 2025. My vehicle had exceeded that mileage, so I relied on this written coverage.” 2.

I have had issues with this car since a few months from me getting it. My rear camera wouldn't work half the time and sometimes turns the images upside down. My heat and cooling system started malfunctioning and the driver's side doesn't blow or temp the same as the passenger side. It has been like that at least 2 of the 4 years I have had this car and have taken it in multiple times and spent thousands of dollars to get it fixed and it is still not fixed and no one can seem to tell me the problem. My car also restarts itself and it won't turn off. A couple of months into getting the car, my car literally shut off while I was on the freeway and I had to pull over. Restart it. I took it in to Ford and they said it was fine. Throughout the last 4 years, my car has restart itself without me autostarting it! It is not a push start car! The engine won't turn off half the time when I take the key out or it turns off then restarts itself and it won't turn off. My car won't lock when it restarts itself. I have also taken my car in multiple times for the electrical system. Reading that there has been multiple complaints about a lot of the issues I am having with my car, not only is it a major safety hazard, but Ford should have done recalls. It is quite ridiculous that they haven't when they are aware of multiple cars having these same issues. I have almost caused several car accidents because of the electrical issues and I don't feel safe driving my vehicle. I shouldn't have to keep

7/2/25-i was driving about 20 miles per hour when suddenly my car went into a type of limp/idle mode. It shut the car down to an idle, a wrench light came on my dash then the car started to shake. I coasted into a driveway and turned the car off. I turned it back on after 5min and it was fine. 7/16/25-I was driving about 30mph and all of a sudden my car goes into this idle mode again. I got the car to coast over into a turning lane. It lost power down to an idle, wrench came up on dash again then the car started to shake. I turned the car off and back on and it was fine. I’m very scared to drive my car bc I don’t know when this will happen again. It could be when I’m turning in front of another vehicle, driving on the expressway or just normal streets or if someone was behind me and wasn’t able to react appropriately bc my car goes into this idle mode so fast that I don’t know how to keep from having an accident myself. 7/17/25-I took it to a machanic and they hooked it to a computer but nothing showed up as being wrong. They drove it several times but they couldn’t get it to do what I’m explaining what it does. After researching the issue, I believe it may be my electric throttle body ETB that ford acknowledged was an issue and had a customer satisfaction program CPS (CSP 13N03) from Ford for ETB replacement on certain 2009-2013 ,.* Jels, sometimes extended into the early 2014 model. * Electronic Throttle Body Failure * Ford ETBs from this era are notoriously bad. * Carb

The back up camera view is distorted, the image is upside down. This causes a visibility issue. I cannot use the camera to back up, I’m dependent on the side and rear view mirrors. This car has several blind spots that make using the mirrors difficult when backing up. I have nearly hit numerous cars.

2014 Ford Edge: questions buyers ask

Is the 2014 Ford Edge a good car?

It is one of the better Edge years on record: 384 complaints, fewer than most Edge years, without an unusual share of serious ones. The most common complaint is about the brakes (17%). In NHTSA crash tests it scored 4 stars overall.

What is the most common problem with the 2014 Ford Edge?

The brakes: 64 of the 384 complaints (17%) are about it. Owners most often say it sets off warning lights on the dash (20%), loses its brakes or the pedal sinks (20%) and knocks, grinds or clunks (5%). The typical report comes at 61,000 miles.

How many recalls does the 2014 Ford Edge have?

3 safety recalls on file with NHTSA, the most recent filed Nov 10, 2020. The largest, 14V393000, covered 83,250 vehicles. Recall repairs are free at a dealer; whether a specific car still has one open depends on its VIN.

At what mileage do 2014 Ford Edge problems start?

Half of the complaints that record an odometer reading came in before 54,632 miles. For the brakes the midpoint is 61,000 miles.

Has NHTSA investigated the 2014 Ford Edge?

Yes, once. PE15020 ("Wheel Separation") was opened May 20, 2015 and closed Jan 4, 2016.

Are there service bulletins for the 2014 Ford Edge?

The manufacturer filed 68 technical service bulletins and other notices for it with NHTSA, most of them about the transmission (11), the electrical system (9) and the engine (7). They include a warranty extension, 13N02 S3, filed Feb 20, 2024. A bulletin is a repair instruction to dealers, not a recall: the fix is usually free only under warranty.

Reading this record

Complaint volume is well above typical for a single model year.

Complaint counts track how many cars were sold and how long they have been on the road as much as they track quality. A common model from 2013 has had a decade to accumulate reports; a rare one from last year has not. The signal worth weighing is in the severity columns, in whether the same component keeps appearing, and in whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.

Recall repairs are free for as long as the recall stands. Check whether a specific car still has open work at NHTSA's VIN lookup.
