2023 Ford Edge

Defect. Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2021-2026 Ford Bronco and 2021-2024 Ford Edge vehicles. The Accessory Protocol Interface Module (APIM) may overheat and shutdown, which can prevent the rearview camera image from displaying as intended.

Risk. A rearview camera that fails to display an image can reduce the driver’s view behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy. The APIM software will be updated by a dealer, or through an over-the-air (OTA) update, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 13, 2026. Owners may contact Ford Customer Service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 26S09. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall became searchable on NHTSA.gov on March 5, 2026.

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2021-2024 Bronco, F-150, 2021-2024 Edge, 2022-2025 Escape, F-250, F-350, F-450, F-550, F-600, 2022-2024 Expedition, 2022-2025 Transit, 2021-2023 Mach-E, 2024 Ranger, Mustang, 2021-2023 Lincoln Nautilus, 2022-2024 Navigator, and 2023-2024 Corsair vehicles. A software error may cause the rearview camera image to delay, freeze, or not display when the vehicle is in reverse.

Risk. A frozen or missing rearview camera image can reduce the driver's view behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy. The accessory protocol interface module (APIM) software will be updated by a dealer or through an over-the-air update, free of charge. This will be a phased campaign, with the remedy becoming available in different phases based on model and model years. Interim letters notifying owners of the safety risk were mailed on June 26, 2025. Additional letters will be mailed once the final remedy is available on each phase. Defect. Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2023 Edge vehicles. The front right headlight may be too bright or aimed incorrectly. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."

Risk. A headlight that is too bright or aimed incorrectly may cause a glare to other road users, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy. Dealers will inspect and replace the right headlight assembly as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed October 9, 2023. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 23C26.

Defect. Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2023 Edge and Lincoln Nautilus vehicles. The child seat tether wire welds on the second-row left-side seat back frame may be insufficient, which can reduce the seat's ability to properly restrain a child during a crash. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 225, "Child Restraint Anchorage Systems."

Risk. A child that is not properly restrained during a crash can have an increased risk of injury.

Remedy. Dealers will replace the left-side second-row seat back frame, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed May 11, 2023. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 23C09.

The contact owns a 2023 Ford Edge. The contact stated that on multiple occasions, the center console display overheated, causing the cabin temperature to become extremely hot. The air conditioning could not be operated due to the center console display being inoperable. No warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the center console display was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 28,000.

CAR HESITATES WHEN GIVING GAS PEDAL, ON GOING ISSSUE, DOESN'T HAPPEN ALL THE TIME SPERATIC

On June 20th 2026 while driving my 2023 Ford Edge SEL AWD at approximately 35mph on an active hwy (93 AZ NB in Wickenburg AZ) the vehicle experienced a sudden catastrophic loss of motive power and came to a sudden stop in a jerking motion. The vehicle completely disabled itself without warning in live traffic, presenting an immediate and severe safety hazard to myself and surrounding motorists. I was forced to stay in an immobile position impeding the flow of traffic and could not coast safely out of the way of hazardous traffic conditions and subsequently was almost hit by a semi-truck and another POV. The vehicle was subsequently towed out of the hwy with law enforcement present for safety and the local repair shop provided a quick analysis of transmission failure. About 2 weeks later, the vehicle was towed by AAA to another mechanic and subsequently an authorized Ford Dealership where through diagnostic evaluation and repair. The official scan log revealed a critical internal failure of the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) identified by Diagnostic Trouble Code P0600 (serial communication link failure). This total electronic communication breakdown immediately triggered an un-commanded cascade of secondary transmission performance faults, specifically P0751 (shift solenoid A Stuck off) and P2700, P2701, P2704, P27B2, P27B4 (transmission friction element application time/performance faults). The contact stated that shortly afterwards, the vehicle returned to normal operation. There was no warning light illuminated. The dealer was contacted, and the vehicle was diagnosed with transmission failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 78,000.

Backup camera malfunctions. Goes black and picture is fuzzy, jumpy and distorted.

The 3rd brake light (high mount stop) has burned out. The repair costs are exorbitant for a legally required part of the car and self repair is extremely challenging. There are numerous complaints online about this part failing.

I reported this the other day. The screen will go black and stay that way for several minutes. It will then come back on then out again. It's getting a lot worse. I'm an older lady that's a lower leg amputee trying to work and I need this screen for directions as I'm by myself in areas I don't really know at night. It's a serious safety issue. Dealer refuses to fix anything since we bought this, says it's the battery, but battery was checked by 4 different places and is in excellent shape. This is beyond a dangerous issue and it needs fixed immediately.

When driving the screen will black out and be off for several seconds. It does not reform to what was on there before this happened. This has hairbrush at least 60 times since owning this vehicle. Took it back to dealer and they said needs new battery. Took too another dealer they said battery is just fine. This is a serious issue that Ford refuses to fix correctly.

As my wife was driving down the interstate, the car began shuddering. She pulled off, and the shuddering became very bad at about 30 MPH. The car flashed an error code which turned out to be the transmission. 2 Ford dealerships recommended a full transmission replacement for $10,800.

The vehicle automatically locks the doors when you begin driving. We were aware that when stopped the doors would automatically unlock when you tried to open them but have found that this can also happen while driving. While driving our daughter pulled on her door handle which caused the door to unlock, then pulled the handle again and was able to open the door enough to trigger the door ajar warning which alerted us to the situation. While we were able to engage the child lock to prevent this from happening again, it is concerning that pulling on the handle would cause the door to unlock when the vehicle is not in park as that can create a dangerous situation very easily.

I was doing 65 and had to gun it to get out of someone's way and when I did it just didn't go. There was a long pause then it kicked in just in time.

The APIM has a known software issue that blanks out the main display and control screen. While not a safety issue for the Radio. It Does eliminate the climate control system. It makes it impossible to turn on, adjust or turn off defrosters. So if windows start to fog there is NO control. The results are attempting to navigate to the side of the road. Secondly this is draining the battery shutting down systems. Ford is aware of the issue and tells dealers they hope a Software update in First Quarter 2025. This is an over the air software update that will not be able to be downloaded due to system shut downs.

I hit a very large item, a diesel tire, and although it broke the tires control arm or axle and was driving and sliding sideways, the cruise control never turned off. Even after hit the brakes it took it a minute before it turned off. This is a big safety issue.

The failure had also occurred in reverse while reversing into a parking space, turning the vehicle off, and depressing the brake pedal. On one occasion the failure occurred causing the vehicle to lurch forward and the passenger side mirror struck a second vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who reprogrammed the transmission software, but the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 56,000.

The "hands-free" liftgate on numerous occasions comes down on a person when that person is in the cargo area. the "hands-free" feature seems to have a mind of it own and besides being very irritating, seems dangerous. There is no way to turn off this feature.

The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed with the defroster activated, the infotainment system screen turned blank, and then the defroster was inoperable. Additionally, the contact stated that the heater and A/C failed to operate as needed when the infotainment system screen turned blank. No warning light was illuminated. The Better Business Bureau (BBB) was made aware of the failure and a case was opened. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the BBB had a Ford inspector diagnose the vehicle; however, no diagnostic codes were retrieved. The dealer replaced the Accessory Protocol Interface Module (APIM) and performed an unknown software update. The failure recurred, and the vehicle was taken back to the dealer, but the cause of the failure could not be determined. The vehicle was then taken to a second dealer, Sioux City Ford Lincoln (3601 Singing Hills Blvd, Sioux City, IA 51106), where a technician test-drove the vehicle with the contact. The contact was informed that the vehicle had been involved in a collision, which voided the warranty coverage. The vehicle was later taken back to the second dealer, where the contact was informed that the vehicle had not been involved in a collision. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired and remained at the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and several cases were opened. The failure mileage was approximately 6,500.

The vehicle was taken to the dealer where parts of the interior of the vehicle were removed to dry out the interior of the vehicle; however, the dealer then discovered there was a crack in the windshield which caused the failure. After two weeks in the possession of the dealer, the vehicle was returned to the contact; however, the vehicle failed to start up after several attempts. The vehicle was driven and towed to the dealer on multiple occasions where diagnostics were performed but no defects were found. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 17,095.
