2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Defect. Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2014-2019 Ram 1500 and 2014-2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles equipped with 3.0L Diesel engines. The crankshaft position sensor tone wheel may delaminate, causing the engine to lose its ability to synchronize the fuel injector pulses and cam shaft timing, possibly resulting in an engine stall.

Risk. An engine stall can increase the risk of a crash.

Remedy. Dealers will update the powertrain control module software to maintain vehicle propulsion, free of charge. Interim notification letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, were mailed August 3, 2023. Some owner notification letters were mailed October 31, 2023. The remaining owner notification letters will be mailed at a future date, anticipated July 2024. Owners may contact FCA US, LLC customer service at 1-800-853-1403. FCA US, LLC's number for this recall is 66A. This recall is an expansion of recall 20V-475.

Defect. Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2014-2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee, and 2014-2019 Ram 1500 vehicles equipped with 3.0L diesel engines. A high pressure fuel pump (HPFP) failure may introduce internal debris into the fuel system, potentially resulting in fuel starvation.

Risk. Fuel starvation may result in an unexpected loss of drive power, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy. Dealers will replace the HPFP, and inspect and replace, if necessary, additional fuel system components, free of charge. Interim notification letters informing owners of the safety risk were mailed July 21, 2022. Owner notification letters for were mailed for Jeep Grand Cherokee owners starting January 11, 2024. Owner notification letters for Ram 1500 owners were mailed March 7, 2024. Owners may contact FCA US, LLC customer service at 1-800-853-1403. FCA US, LLS's number for this recall is Z46.

Defect. Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2020 Jeep Gladiator and Jeep Cherokee, 2019-2020 Ram 1500 Pickup, Ram 2500 Pickup, Ram 3500 Pickup, Chrysler Pacifica, Dodge Durango, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Jeep Wrangler, and Jeep Renegade and 2019 Dodge Challenger vehicles equipped with 8.4" or 12" radio displays. A software error can cause the rearview camera image to remain displayed after the vehicle has been shifted out of reverse. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 111, "Rearview Mirrors."

Risk. The lingering rearview image can distract the driver, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy. Chrysler has notified owners, and dealers will update the radio display software, free of charge. Optionally, owners can choose to remotely update their software via an Over-The-Air (OTA) update available as of May 1, 2020. The recall began April 27, 2020. The screen in my vehicle which controls alot of the functions like temperature volume sos emergency calls is experiencing delamination cause the screen to ghost touch things which is a safety hazard when driving in the event of an accident i wont be able to press the button on the screen for help

The dashboard material has come loose and bubbled up. This issue is concerning in that: 1) the structural integrity of the dashboard itself is uncertain; failed adhesive alone can't account for this (my photo doesn't do it justice), 2) if allowed to continue, the material has the potential to fully come loose, thus leading to disruption of the visual field to safely see, and 3) materials and debris have the potential to become trapped under the bubbled-up sections, leading to additional concerns such as mildew or mold. It does get warm in Sacramento, but my car is parked inside or in a covered area 95% of the time. In fact, when I first noticed it, it had been parked in a shaded parking garage. I have been in zero accidents. Unfortunately, the other issue, is no one seems to be willing/able to fix it, and it sounds like I will have to be involved in an accident in order to get it done. Which is NOT something I want to do.

Exhaust system design defect. Original manifold system started to fail at approximately 40,000 miles, allowing CO gasses to enter vehicle cabin exposing passengers, including children, to potentially deadly exhaust fumes. Jeep, Jeep Service Centers have known since at least service bulletin 09-19-23 that the hangers and brackets used in the manifold system are not robust enough in design to “accommodate thermal expansion and engine movement without breaking or leaking.” I was never alerted to this. Addressing this via an unnoticed bulletin rather than a recall not only put me in physical danger, but ran out the clock so it could not be addressed as a warranty issue. Apparently, the manifold warps, gaskets fail, the vibration shears support bolts, and the carbon monoxide leaks into the car through the ventilation system upon warmup. Depending on severity perhaps the entire drive. Attached file is a $4200 estimate presented to me by the dealership where I originally purchased the car, preparing me for what I might have to pay out of pocket to fix the leaking exhaust system. There was no preemptive maintenance for this issue I could have had done, aside from not driving my car. Ever. I assumed when I bought the car that the manufacturer would not knowingly allow me to purchase a vehicle that pumps exhaust fumes directly into the cabin. I was wrong. This is a defect Jeep is obviously well aware of, and they chose to put their customer’s in harm’s way rather than taking action.

I am writing to make you aware of a safety issue that I have encountered with my 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. On August 21, 2026, the gas pedal/throttle control just fell off as I was driving myself and infant on a busy three lane thoroughfare in [XXX]. I went to slow down the car by braking, but it was very difficult. I went into an empty bus lane so as not to get rear ended or crash into something. Finally, the car systems ceased. No warning lamps came on ever or any messages. I had no problems with the car prior to this occurring. As I said previously, I had my infant in the car with me at the time and never expected for a gas pedal/throttle to literally fall off. I didn't think that cars would be made for this to ever happen. This could've been a major tragedy. I usually commute to work on major highways with tractor trailers and trucks, but I was off that day luckily. We could have been killed. I had to have a flatbed bring it to a Jeep dealer in Nanuet, NY where they took possession of the car and car part. I did take phots of the part though. The factory-installed 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen/display in my 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee is delaminating internally causing bubbling under the screen surface. The layers of the touchscreen are separating even though the screen has not been physically damaged. The Uconnect system and vehicle are available for inspection upon request. The delamination affects the touchscreen used to operate and display multiple vehicle functions. As the screen deteriorates, it can become difficult to read or operate and may result in unintended or “ghost” touchscreen inputs. This can create a driver distraction while the vehicle is moving and may interfere with the driver’s ability to reliably use information and functions displayed through the Uconnect system, including the rear-view camera display when backing up. The condition appears to be progressive and raises concern that the display could become increasingly unreliable. Yes. The vehicle was presented to an authorized Jeep dealership, and the delamination of the factory Uconnect touchscreen was confirmed. The dealership also attempted to determine whether Stellantis would provide repair cost assistance, but advised that its system would not allow a goodwill request because of the vehicle's expired warrenty. The car is only 6 years old and has less than 60,000 miles. Stellantis refuses to provide any assistance. Jeep dealership states it is a $1500 repair. The vehicle and Uconnect screen have been inspected by an authorized Jeep dealers

The copilot seat headrest violently detached from the base

Radio / navigation screen de-laminating. Radio controls malfunction while driving. I am the fist and only owner of this vehicle. Car is garaged , and only has 63,000 miles on it. No environmental reason why this would be happening. I have went to dealership service department and they stated it was not covered by my extended warranty . I have also reached out to Jeep customer care with no resolution. The screen controls the AC , steering wheel heating , seat heating , phone Bluetooth, SOS , etc .

My screen has started to delaminate I’m very worried it will soon completely not work . I would like to have this issue addressed by jeep themselves I refuse to pay for a new one this vehicle has 40,000 miles and is 6 years old it should not be happening . I’m extremely unhappy .

While driving on the interstate at highway speeds, the vehicle suffered a sudden and complete loss of motive power without warning, causing the engine to stall. The vehicle became a severe safety hazard in active traffic as power steering and power braking assists were greatly reduced, nearly causing a high-speed rear-end collision before I could safely coast to the shoulder.Upon investigation, the vehicle completely ran out of gasoline, despite the dashboard fuel gauge explicitly indicating at least a 1/4 tank of fuel remaining.This is the second time this exact failure has occurred. The first instance happened during the vehicle's factory warranty period. At that time, the dealership misdiagnosed the issue and replaced the auxiliary battery, failing to address the underlying fuel delivery defect.The vehicle currently has 37,950 miles. The defect appears to be a failure of the auxiliary fuel sending unit/siphon pump inside the saddle-style fuel tank layout. This failure prevents fuel from transferring to the main pump, starving the engine of fuel while falsely reporting to the driver that gas is still available. This is a severe manufacturing defect that actively misleads the operator and causes unexpected stalling at highway speeds.

I am submitting this complaint to report a serious safety concern involving my 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee. At approximately 44,000–45,000 miles, the vehicle suffered a catastrophic engine failure. This was extremely alarming considering the relatively low mileage of the vehicle. The most serious concern occurred while I was attempting to drive the vehicle to the service center. The condition of the vehicle became so severe that I genuinely feared the vehicle could catch fire while I was still inside it. I was terrified for my personal safety and concerned that I could be seriously injured. This was not simply an inconvenience or an ordinary mechanical repair. In my opinion, the circumstances surrounding the engine failure created a potentially dangerous safety situation. The vehicle has subsequently remained at the dealership/service facility for an extended period while the engine issue has been addressed. I contacted Jeep/Stellantis regarding the engine failure. Stellantis offered approximately $13,000 in goodwill assistance toward the repair while requiring me to contribute approximately $3,200. However, my primary reason for reporting this matter to NHTSA is not the financial dispute. My primary concern is SAFETY. I am extremely concerned that an engine could experience such a catastrophic failure at approximately 44,000–45,000 miles and create circumstances in which I feared the vehicle could catch fire while being driven. On the 26th of April 2026, the transfer Case on my 2020 Grand Cherokee (with less 114,000 miles) failed during highway travel. This resulted in a sudden downshift and temporary deceleration followed by illumination of “Service 4wd” display. A short time after, the “Service Electronic Stability Control” indicator displayed followed by another downshift and the unattended transition of the 'Select_Terrain' from 'Auto' to 'Snow'. We were unable to turn off these settings. On the next day, we returned the Jeep to our CDJR dealer for repair. After inspection, the service agent reported that the Jeep experienced a “Transfer Case failure” and further recommended that I consider [purchasing] a new vehicle as these issues seem to be piling up. Failure of this nature is not normal wear. I have purchased 5 Jeep vehicles over the past 40 years and 4 of our Jeeps had over 250,000 miles of service without dangerous, catastrophic engine or drive-train failure such as this. This situation should remediated by the manufacturer and any affected components repaired or replaced. Finally, it should be noted that 3-days prior to the failure, the same CDJR dealer provided a 100,00-Mile 'service' that included "Op1 DMS All wheel Drive Fluid Exchange".

The uconnect touch screen is delaminating. It is causing issues with being able to use the backup camera with accuracy because the delamination causes a visual distortion. Also, it has been causing issues with the controls where it repeatedly gets stuck and ghost touches options in the vehicle while driving, which is concerning. The delamination started as a small spot and has rapidly increased to half the screen. This is clearly a widespread chronic issue/defect with many Jeep GC models, if you look online. The screen is a big component in operating and functions in the vehicle. Having a defect which causes sight impairment and control changes while in motion is dangerous.

I am reporting a potential safety issue involving my 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited X. The vehicle developed a condition in which it would not stay running. I brought the vehicle to an authorized Jeep dealership, Valley Motor City in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, for a scheduled service appointment on May 19, 2026. The dealership diagnosed and completed approximately $5,200 in repairs. On June 11, 2026, I was informed that the repairs had been completed, but the vehicle still would not stay running. The vehicle has remained at the dealership while technicians have continued attempting to determine the cause. After I escalated the matter to Jeep/Stellantis Customer Care, I was advised that the dealership is attempting to obtain additional diagnostic information and that an engine replacement may now be under consideration. I was also advised that the dealership is expected to complete higher-level technical review procedures and may request assistance from a Stellantis technical specialist if the cause still cannot be determined. I was later advised that the dealership was expected to provide follow-up information to Jeep/Stellantis by Tuesday, July 14, 2026. On the evening of July 14, 2026, the Jeep/Stellantis case manager advised me that the dealership had not followed up with her, and that she would follow up with the dealership and escalate the matter to her manager. The contact owns a 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 20 MPH, the check engine warning light illuminated, and the vehicle jerked and lost power. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where the failure could not be replicated. The vehicle was then taken to another independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the camshaft, battery, and two oil valves in the starter needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was towed to a dealer, who provided the same diagnosis. The battery, starter, and two valves were replaced. The contact stated that the failures persisted while driving on several occasions, with the message "Oil Overheated" displayed, and the temperature warning light illuminated. The vehicle was then towed to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the camshaft needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 114,369.

Airbags did not deploy in an accident where someone ran me into a tree front center of front of car it involves Two injury because airbags didn't come out on impact

Safety Issue: The UConnect screen which displays backup camera image, has delaminated causing the display to not show the backup camera view. The same Uconnect screen , because of the delaminating failure auto selects radio channel changes and climate control to not respond to touching the screen.

All grand cherokees have an issue where you lose all power to your jeep while driving and cant do anything! ON top of all the electrical issues. HUGE safety problem when your driving in traffic and cant control your jeep randomly

The internal fuel pump/fuel pump circuit on my 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee (VIN: [XXX] ) failed prematurely, resulting in a sudden and severe 'no-crank' safety hazard. The fuel pump failure triggered a massive electrical current draw that shorted out the Powertrain/Engine Control Module communications and locked out the starter motor entirely. This electrical failure leaves the vehicle completely stranded, inoperable, and creates a significant risk of stalling in active traffic without power steering or propulsion. Radio 8.4 touch screen is delaminated and freezes during back up camera use and sometimes the inputs change on their own

At 50k grand cherokee would flash reverse indicator and message shift to park also when reverse would engage it was with a harsh engagement. At 58k transmission would hesitate to shift into 4th gear.at 64k transmission would no shift past 3rd gear. Jeep dealer tried to charge $5900. For a bandage 4th clutch repair or $7000. For rebuild transmission .while I wish to repair it myself parts for transmission are not available and dealership says it won't pass state emissions test with transmission codes.the fact the vehicle can not reach highway speed do to failure and after reading online about many premature failures of this 850re transmission and lack of consumer available parts the vehicle should be recalled
