Defect. Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2014-2016 Jeep Cherokee vehicles equipped with a power liftgate. An electrical short in the power liftgate module may lead to a vehicle fire with the ignition on or off.

Risk. A fire while parked or driving can increase the risk of injury.

Remedy. Owners are advised to park outside and away from structures until the recall repair is complete. Dealers will relocate the power liftgate module and add a water shield. In addition, dealers will inspect for corrosion and replace the module and electrical connectors, if necessary. Repairs will be performed free of charge. Owner letters were mailed March 1, 2024. Owners may contact FCA US, LLC customer service at 1-800-853-1403. FCA US, LLC's number for this recall is 49A. This recall supersedes recalls 15V-393 and 15V-826. Vehicles repaired under the prior recalls will still need to have the new remedy performed.

Defect. Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2014-2017 Jeep Cherokee vehicles equipped with a two-speed Power Transfer Unit (PTU). Relative movement in the Power Transfer Unit (PTU) between the differential input splines and the transmission output shaft may cause some input spline teeth to wear off, which may eventually cause a loss of engagement between the transmission and the differential inside the PTU. If this occurs, power cannot be transferred between the front wheels and the transmission which results in a loss of drive while the vehicle is in motion and a loss of the Park function while stationary.

Risk. A loss of drive can cause a vehicle crash without prior warning. A loss of the Park function can cause unintended vehicle rollaway which can increase the risk of a crash or injury.

Remedy. FCA US LLC will notify owners, and dealers will perform a software update that will maintain vehicle propulsion by engaging rear wheel drive and prevent rolling in Park by activating the electronic parking brake if a failed input spline occurs. This recall began July 14, 2020. Owners may contact FCA USA LLC customer service at 1-800-853-1403. FCA's number for this recall is W47.

Defect. Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2014 Jeep Cherokee vehicles equipped with 3.2L engines. In the event that a clutch becomes stuck in the transmission, the transmission software may shift the transmission to neutral.

Risk. An unexpected shift to neutral would result in a loss of drive, increasing the risk of crash.

Remedy. Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will update the transmission software, free of charge. The recall began August 8, 2019. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is V69.

Defect. Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2014-2018 Dodge Journey, Charger and Durango, RAM 2500, 3500, 3500 Cab Chassis (more than 10,000lb), 4500 Cab Chassis and 5500 Cab Chassis, Jeep Cherokee and Grand Cherokee and Chrysler 300, 2014-2019 RAM 1500, 2015-2018 Dodge Challenger, 2015-2017 Chrysler 200, 2016-2018 RAM 3500 Cab Chassis (less than 10,000 lb), 2017-2018 Chrysler Pacifica and 2018 Jeep Wrangler vehicles. These vehicles are being recalled to address a defect that could prevent the cruise control system from disengaging. If, when using cruise control, there is a short circuit within the vehicle's wiring, the driver may not be able to shut off the cruise control either by depressing the brake pedal or manually turning the system off once it has been engaged, resulting in either the vehicle maintaining its current speed or possibly accelerating.

Risk. If the vehicle maintains its speed or accelerates despite attempts to deactivate the cruise control, there would be an increased risk of a crash.

Remedy. Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the software, and perform a software flash on the engine or powertrain control module, free of charge. The recall began June 4, 2018. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Note: Owners are advised to stop using cruise control until the software update has been performed. In the event that cruise control cannot be disengaged while driving, owners should firmly and steadily apply the brakes and shift the transmission to neutral, placing the vehicle in park once it has stopped.

Defect. Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling various Dodge, Chrysler, and RAM vehicles equipped with Kidde Plastic-Handle or Push Button 'Pindicator' Fire Extinguishers. A list of the affected trailer models is available at: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2017/RMISC-17V824-0103.pdf. These extinguishers may become clogged, preventing the extinguisher from discharging as expected or requiring excessive force to activate the extinguisher. Additionally, in certain models, the nozzle may detach from the valve assembly with enough force that it could cause injury and also render the product inoperable. Risk. If the fire extinguisher does not function properly, it can increase the risk of injury in the event of a fire.

Defect. Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain model year 2014-2016 Jeep Cherokee vehicles manufactured July 29, 2013, to February 5, 2016. The seat fasteners on the first or second row seats may not have been tightened to the proper torque specification.

Risk. Loose fasteners may allow the seats to move, increasing the risk of injury to the seat occupants in the event of a crash.

Remedy. Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will replace the seats or seat sets, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin during September 2016. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall S63.

Defect. Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 Jeep Cherokee and 2015 Chrysler 200, Jeep Renegade, RAM ProMaster, and 2016 Fiat 500X vehicles equipped with 9-speed automatic transmissions. The transmission sensor clusters may have insufficient crimps in the transmission wire harness, and as a result, the transmission may unexpectedly shift to neutral. On August 29, 2016 Chrysler added the 2016 Fiat 500X vehicles to this recall.

Risk. If the vehicle unexpectedly shifts to neutral, there is an increased risk of a crash.

Remedy. Chrysler will notify owners, dealers will reprogram the Powertrain Control Module and the Transmission Control Module and if necessary replace the transaxle range sensor wire harness, free of charge. The recall began on November 7, 2016. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is S55.

Defect. Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain model year 2014 Jeep Cherokee vehicles manufactured January 4, 2013, to July 11, 2014. Use of the front windshield wipers on dry glass may cause damage to the body control module (BCM).

Risk. BCM damage may result in the failure of the windshield wipers, impairing the driver's vision and increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.

Remedy. Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will install a ground strap to protect the BCM from damage, free of charge. Owners were notified of the recall on October 7, 2015. Defect. Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain model year 2013-2015 Ram 1500, 2500, 3500, 4500, and 5500, 2015 Chrysler 200, Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger, and Dodge Challenger, 2014-2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee, Cherokee, and Dodge Durango, and 2013-2015 Dodge Viper vehicles. The affected vehicles are equipped with radios that have software vulnerabilities that can allow third-party access to certain networked vehicle control systems.

Risk. Exploitation of the software vulnerability may result in unauthorized remote modification and control of certain vehicle systems, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy. Chrysler will notify and mail affected owners a USB drive that includes a software update that eliminates the vulnerability, free of charge. Optionally, owners may download the update to their own USB drive from http://www.driveuconnect.com/software-update/ or take their vehicle to a Chrysler dealer for immediate installation. In an effort to mitigate the effects of this security vulnerability, Chrysler has had the wireless service provider close the open cellular connection to the vehicle that provided unauthorized access to the vehicle network. This measure may not have been implemented on all vehicles and does not address access by other means that will be remedied by the software update. The recall began on August 25, 2015. Defect. Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 Jeep Cherokee vehicles manufactured January 4, 2013, to February 18, 2015 and equipped with a Power Liftgate option. In the affected vehicles, water may enter the Power Liftgate Control Module and cause a high resistance short circuit in the module.

Risk. A short circuit in the liftgate control module may result in a fire.

Remedy. Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the power liftgate control module and connectors for corrosion, substitute a bolt for the threaded grommet installed to seal an attachment point used in non-power liftgate vehicles and cover the power liftgate control module in a foam water shield, free of charge. Defect. Chrysler is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 Jeep Cherokee vehicles manufactured January 1, 2013, to November 19, 2014. The affected vehicles may experience unintended side curtain and seat air bag deployment during vehicle operation.

Risk. If the air bags deploy unexpectedly during vehicle operation, it can increase the risk of personal injury and increase the risk of a crash.

Defect. Chrysler Group LLC (Chrysler) is recalling certain model year 2014 Jeep Cherokee and Ram 1500 and 2015 Chrysler 200 vehicles. Due to an insufficient weld, the rear shocks may detach from the vehicle at one end and possibly damage other chassis components, the tire or result in reduced braking.

Risk. Damage to the tire or reduced braking increases the risk of a vehicle crash.

High speed front end damage to vehicle with no airbag deployment. No dashboard lights were on indicating a problem with them. This is a serious safety issue.

Active Drive 2 PTU failure caused Jeep to lose power on roadway forcing me to try to get to shoulder quickly to avoid blocking traffic or being rear ended. The part is available. I haven’t sent to dealership due to financial constraints. There are numerous incidents and even a recall for similar 2 speed PTUs sold on 2014+ Jeep cherokees. Recall only covered certain VINs and not all vehicles with this same PTU. But there have been many more instances of failure from the PTUs not included in the recall or warranty extension. The svc 4wd light came on when the issue occurred. Had to have vehicle towed as it would not move under own power safely.

The transmission light went on. Car was brought into dealership two times while still under warranty. They did not have a fix and PTU was on back order for over a year in 2017. I am now resorting to pay out of pocket. I had a PTU shipped from a Jeep dealer in Louisiana. PTU from them was not new but had come off another car and was charged $2,300. I sent it back because it was used at that time I was working and was going to pay out of pocket. I was not going to pay to install a used transmission. Regardless there is as no fix. Then in May of this year the check engine light came on. This was another problem that the Jeep dealership cannot fix. Now I have a paid for car that cannot be driven because it cannot be smogged. It has the Pentastar V6 engine. There is no fix for either problem I understand and I am retired and cannot afford these repairs. I asked the manufacturer in writing to buy the car back and they said no. Can I get some help? This was going to be my last car. Jeep dealer offered $200 for the car. My all weather tires are worth more than the car. I’ve changed oil on time using synthetic oil and have otherwise taken good care of this car. I thought they would come up with a fix for the transmission is why I waited so long. Everything that is wrong is the manufacturer’s product defect. My vehicle’s E-brake engaged and would not released. After having it towed to the dealership, I was told that a leak into my rear storage of my spare tires occurred and shorted the E-brake electrical system! There are no visible leaks coming from within the car.

The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while accelerating from a stop, the transmission unexpectedly shifted into neutral(N), and the vehicle lost automotive power. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The “Service 4WD" message was displayed. The vehicle was towed to a dealer to be diagnosed, and the contact was informed that the PTU unit had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired due to the cost. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 40,000.

This issue has occurred on several occasions. I successfully reverse but when I switch back to "drive" the vehicle enters a neutral state. When driving on the highway, the vehicle has slowed itself to 40mph and continues to slow itself until it becomes disabled. I currently see there has been a recall for this vehicle in 2019 (19V447000) which did not include my VIN. However, my vehicle is experiencing the exact symptoms described in that specific recall. The vehicle is unsafe to drive.

The PTU has failed and now my warranty claim is being denied. I drive a 2014 Jeep Cherokee and this is a COMMON issue with this car. It unfortunately has not fallen under a recall that I can see anywhere even though so many others have.

I purchesed the vehicle in April of 2024, test drove it and it drove fine, the dealership said they had to service a recall of the transfer case before I could take the car home. Once I picked the car up and drove it for a few days it was driving very weird and had low speed shuttering, I took it back to the dealership after googling that it might be related to the transfer case and they looked at it and said everything was fine, so I just dealt with the issue. Recently the "service 4wd" light came on so I took it to a friend to take a look at it and they noticed that the transfer case that was put in to service the recall was actually from a junk yard and used which is what has been causing the issues I've been having. I researched it a bit further and was told to make a complaint due to having junk yard parts put in to satisfy a recall being illegal.

My vehicle is experiencing a critical structural failure directly related to Safety Recall W47. Due to severe, unmitigated drivetrain vibrations caused by internal Power Transfer Unit (PTU) input spline wear, the structural mounting fasteners connecting the PTU housing to the aluminum automatic transmission casing have completely backed out and/or sheared off while operating.When attempting to have this safety defect remedied under the active W47 recall, both the authorized Jeep dealership and Stellantis corporate customer care actively refused to honor the safety recall or conduct internal diagnostics. They have locked me into a circular loop, stating that because the structural fasteners are currently missing/broken, the issue is classified as "missing bolts" and is not covered under the recall. They are demanding thousands of dollars out-of-pocket to replace the hardware before they will inspect the internal components of the PTU.The ejection and shearing of these structural fasteners is a direct, documented physical consequence of the severe vibrations caused by the defective, recalled PTU. Forcing a consumer to pay out-of-pocket to repair the structural symptoms of a known safety defect before a dealership will honor a federal recall is a violation of the remedy process. This condition compromises the structural integrity of the drivetrain, increases the risk of component separation while driving, and presents an immediate safety hazard.

The gas pedal acceleration and a cruise control came on and got stuck between 35 and 45 miles an hour time I hit the other vehicle and laying on the brakes was probably 38 to 40 miles an hour prior that I was doing 72 miles an hour and 40 miles an hour zone. How are you able to get a vehicle hitting the brakes brake and then it would help. I barely hit the other car in the cars spun out and hit other vehicles.

Failure of the PTU prevented vehicle from going into park. Gears in PRU stripped causing complete failure and vehicle would not move.

The PTU is bad and I’ve replaced it twice with no successful fix

The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the gear shifter became stuck in neutral. The failure was a recurring failure. The contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V447000 (Power Train); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The vehicle was towed to the residence. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 160,000.

The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, there was an abnormally loud roaring sound coming from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed with power transfer unit failure. The contact was informed that the power transfer unit needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact was informed that the parts were on back order. The contact was informed that the failure was a known failure with similar vehicles. The contact referenced an unknown recall; however, the VIN was not associated with a recall related to the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.

Parking brake engages while driving down the road pulled control module out and has water corrosion looked up causes and seen there was a recall/lawsuit in need of recall

I have a 2014 Jeep Cherokee that i have had since 2019. Since I have owned it, there have been several transmission recalls. I am currently dealing with a new transmission issue, where it is jerky and fails to go when pressing the gas after being at a stop. I am also dealing with the second oil filter housing leaking. Apparently this is a known issue, due to a plastic housing that cracks and warps easily. This causes significant oil and coolant leaks. This can potentially cause engine failure as well as the possibility of oil causing a fire due to hot oil on the exhaust. I previously paid over $1000 to have this repaired a few years ago and its now doing the same thing! This is highly frustrating. I will not be able to drive my car until this is fixed to the safety hazard of driving with such a bad oil leak.

My PTU in my 2014 Jeep Cherokee is failing. The car has been jerking when accelerating. Sometimes very slow when I first accelerate then jerks heavily and takes off at a high rate of speed. I also noticed weird grinding and unusual sounds. The sound starts randomly when accelerating or when traveling and I let off the accelerator. The sound is more of a howling then grinds and quickly goes away. I replaced all the wheel bearings on the vehicle and it still existed. I then took the car to a Jeep dealer where one of the techs had test drove it and confirmed that the PTU has failed.

On 05/30/2026 approximately 12:15. My Jeep radio screen prompted "service needed, no phone connected" and a few other words I did not have an opportunity to memorize. The check engine light came on and he oil light appeared. This all happened within a minute. It was very quick and scared both of us. As my mother was driving, she smelled heat, then the radio quit working, the air conditioning shut off and heat turned on without assistance, my mother attempted to open the electronic windows without success, the power steering stopped worked and locked up, then the entire vehicle shut off. She struggled to maintain control of the vehicle in order to guide us to a safe place off the side of the road. We were in imamate danger due to NOT having any control of the vehicle. The hood, driver and passenger doors, front and back were able to be accessed, however we could not open the hatch. And the interior lights would not remain shut off until the battery ceased to have amps. No the vehicle was not inspected by the manufacturer, police or insurance representatives. We were on a major highway. She had NO CONTROL of the vehicle. I bought this vehicle used from Blue Knob and have never received any recall notices however I researched and found 13 recalls I have never been informed of. This is unsettling and a dangerous form of noncommunication.

It began with front end grinding sounds. I took the vehicle to multiple mechanic shops and all the shops agree that the Power Transfer Unit is leaking and metal shaving are visibly coming out of the seal. This is supposed to be a sealed unit that doesn’t require service. There are already two separate recalls for this exact issue 2017 - 2019 and 2019 - 2023. Apparently, this could disengage from the transmission or worse, lock my transmission up and possibly cause an accident. Flashing the CM did not solve anything. My car has been at the mechanic shop for a little over a month with a new unit already ordered. I have been paying close attention to this and relevant recalls.

The PTU output shaft bearing is failing under load. The grinding noise disappears when the driveshaft is removed and returns immediately when the driveshaft is reinstalled, confirming a load dependent PTU failure. This defect can cause sudden loss of motive power and inability to hold Park, which matches the safety description in the recall documentation. My vehicle falls within the recall build date ranges, yet the manufacturer refuses to cover the repair. This is a safety related defect that should be included in the population recall. This vehicle stalls while on the road and it also stops driving, and the vehicle remains stationary. It's random and I never know when it will happen. There was a recall issued for this very problem in 2019. When I type in Mt Vin # it says no recalls on this vehicle. I feel this vehicle meets the same safety issues as the recall. I've contacted Chrysler with no progress.

I had a recall completed in March 2023 for transmission issues. Since January 2026, my vehicle has been in a repair for a part that is backorder. The part is Transfer Case Control Module (TCCM). The part number is 68540646AA for a 2014 Jeep Cherokee Latitude V6 3.2 4x4. I feel that this is unfair and it has caused me and my family undue hardship. After I obtain this part, then other parts such as O2 sensor and the thermostat has to be replaced as well. I feel that Stellanis should cover the cost of all of the repairs.

While traveling at Highway speed approximately 70 miles an hour vehicles transmission suddenly failed without warning, aesthetically freezing the transmission on the highway I could not step on the gas and the vehicle would not move. This was not a minor inconvenience or a routine mechanical issue this was based on research and many reported transmission tests of this model year transmission and Chrysler knew about it in 2013 even as engineers were trying to fix the problem and they still released the vehicle design flaw in 2014, particularly the transmissions internal clutch systems. In December 2023 encountered a failure of the vehicles Rear Differential Module (RDM). Failure of the RDM on this vehicle poses several significant safety issues, not dissimilar to concerns raised by the failure of the PTU on this vehicle which eventually resulted in a recall by the manufacturer after many reports by owners. Vehicle mileage at this time was 72,829. As this failure occurred outside of the drivetrain warranty offered by Stellantis on this vehicle, I had the defective RDM replaced at my cost (an expensive repair). Then in December 2025 I returned to my Jeep dealer once again with grinding and binding issues from the rear end of the vehicle. Vehicle mileage at this time was 94,500. The dealer initially diagnosed this as a failed driveshaft bearing and a replacement was ordered. It took weeks for this part to arrive at the dealer. The new driveshaft was finally installed on January 26 of 2026 (another costly repair). When I arrived to pick up the vehicle it became immediately apparent that the originally reported issue in December 2025 had not been repaired. The dealer's repair shop performed another diagnosis and subsequently determined that the cause of my reported problem was the RDM. A new RDM was ordered. The vehicle was towed to Dependable Car Care, where it was diagnosed with water intrusion in the parking brake module. The mechanic determined that the parking brake module needed to be replaced, and an electrical connector cleaning was needed. The vehicle was repaired; however, while driving 45 MPH, the failure recurred, causing the vehicle to brake hard. The message "BRAKE" was displayed. The vehicle was pulled over into a parking lot and remained in the parking lot. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. There have been many documented incidents regarding these transmissions on the 2014 Jeep Cherokee Latitude. The transmission are junk in these and have been recalled because of splines and clutches. Please get back to me on this issue.

I am reporting a failure of the remedy for Recall S55 (NHTSA 16V-529). The manufacturer’s authorized repair, a software-update only, failed to correct the underlying hardware defect in the transaxle jumper harness. As a result, the wires in the harness physically melted due to the high electrical resistance as stated in the S55 recall, which caused a total loss of motive power while driving and rendering the vehicle immobile. This created a significant crash risk as we were suddenly left completely immobile and stranded in the middle of busy traffic, not to mention a fire hazard. Prior to the total failure, the vehicle exhibited electrical symptoms including sporadic starting, locks locking and unlocking by itself, improper revolution, and harsh transmission shifting. In addition to the melted wires in the transaxle jumper harness, there is now oil pooling under the vehicle, signaling further critical damage caused from the recalled part's failure. In the aftermath we are now assessing our federal rights to repair from the manufacturer. The dealership and manufacturer claim the recall is 'completed' because of the initial software update, but the physical defect remains and has worsened into a hazardous state. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate the adequacy of the S55 software-only remedy, as it does not prevent the hardware from failing, leaving countless in a dangerous situation. My car is safely in my driveway. It only has 18,000 miles driven. It became stuck in wheel drive, greatly reducing my ability to drive the vehicle. The 2014 Cherokee is known for PTU failures in which the unit overheats or leaks fluid into the electronics, causing the system to lock in 4WD and display "Service 4WD" or "4WD System Unavailable". In November 2025, I recently completed a recall repair to my 2014 Jeep Cherokee (NHSTA #XXX/Jeep #49A). I picked up my Jeep and parked it and did not drive it for several weeks. In December 2025, I rented my 2014 Jeep Cherokee on Turo and within the first 24hrs of driving, the renter contacted me and told me the electronic parking brake malfunctioned when the vehicle was parked, which prevented the car from further operation. I towed the car to a mechanic who confirmed the problem with malfunctioning electronic parking brake (EPB) due to water intrusion in the rear of the vehicle, who then isolated the EPB to enable vehicle operation, and referred me to the Jeep dealership for repair. I retrieved the vehicle and dropped it off at a local Jeep dealership for assessment and repair. The Jeep dealership has confirmed that there is significant water intrusion into the vehicle rear (likely from failing sunroof, as the headliner is also soaked and damaged), where water has collected behind the plastic interior panels; and indicated the EPB module, located in the rear, needs to be replaced. I authorized this replacement/repair which was completed. My research of this issue indicates in addition to the above recall for power tailgate malfunction due to water intrusion, that the defective EPB is also due to water intrusion [XXX] ). The vehicle recently showed an error stating "Service 4WD" which appears to be a known issue with this model of vehicle. When checking the VIN number, it appears this particular vehicle is supposedly not one that has this issue. However with that being said, it is giving the code that is specifically has this issue. The cost to fix this totals more than $4,000 and is known to Chrysler. This vehicle should be covered under the known issue by the manufacturer.

PTU is being replaced because the dealership said it is going to leave me without power to the wheels which can be extremely dangerous on interstate. Took my Cherokee in because the whining that I’ve been hearing for at least three years was getting louder. The ptu has failed in my vehicle. When I bought the vehicle there was a 4x4 light on the dash but I was told that it needed to be just turned off by a jeep dealership. But I believe it actually was a symtom of the failing ptu. My vehicle sometimes goes into neutral when I try to pull off from a stop sign and then the vehicle kicks itself back into drive.
