2014 GMC Sierra 1500

Defect. General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2014-2016 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, 2015-2016 Chevrolet Tahoe, and 2014-2015 GMC Sierra 1500 vehicles that may have received an incorrect replacement tensioner cable assembly as part of a previous recall remedy or a subsequent repair. The flexible steel cable connecting the driver's seat belt to the outboard side of the seat may be repeatedly bent over the seat side shield as the driver enters and exits the vehicle causing the cable to fatigue and separate.

Risk. A broken pretensioner cable reduces the effectiveness of the driver's seat belt, increasing the risk of injury.

Remedy. GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driver seat belt lap pretensioner, free of charge. The recall began on May 5, 2021. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, and GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is N212330040.

Defect. General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2015-2020 Chevrolet Suburban, Tahoe, and GMC Yukon, and 2014-2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 vehicles equipped with a 5.3-liter engine, a 3.08-ratio rear axle and four-wheel drive. If a wheel-speed sensor fails, while the vehicle is traveling between 41 and 60 mph in four-wheel or automatic mode, the Electronic-Brake Control Module (EBCM) software may activate the driveline-protection system.

Risk. Unintended activation of the driveline-protection system will cause unintended braking on the wheel on the opposite side of the failed sensor, causing the vehicle to pull to one side unexpectedly, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy. GM will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the EBCM, free of charge. The recall began December 11, 2019. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-630-2438 or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is N192261050.

Defect. General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2015-2017 Cadillac Escalade, 2014-2018 Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Sierra, 2015-2018 Chevrolet Suburban, Tahoe, GMC Yukon vehicles. The amount of vacuum created by the vacuum pump may decrease over time.

Risk. As the vacuum level drops, the brake assist decreases, increasing braking effort, extending the distance required to stop the vehicle, thereby increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy. GM will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the Electronic Brake Control Module, free of charge. The recall began October 8, 2019. Defect. General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2009-2014 Chevrolet Silverado HD and GMC Sierra HD, 2009 GMC Topkick 5000, 6000, 7000 and 8000 Series and Isuzu F Series, and 2009-2018 Chevrolet Express, and GMC Savana vehicles, equipped with certain Plastic-Handle Fire Extinguishers or Push Button 'Pindicator' Fire Extinguishers. These extinguishers may become clogged, preventing the extinguisher from discharging as expected or requiring excessive force to activate the extinguisher. Additionally, in certain models, the nozzle may detach from the valve assembly with enough force that it could cause injury and also render the product inoperable. General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2014-2016 Buick Lacrosse and Chevrolet Spark EV, Caprice PPV and SS vehicles, 2014-2017 Buick Encore and Chevrolet Corvette, Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 vehicles, 2015-2016 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Tahoe, Trax, Suburban and Silverado 2500 and 3500 and GMC Yukon and Yukon XL vehicles, and 2015-2017 GMC Sierra HD 2500 and 3500 vehicles. While being previously remedied for recall 16V-651, the affected vehicles may not have received the complete software update necessary to remedy the recall condition. Without the update, certain driving conditions may cause the air bag sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) software to activate a diagnostic test. During this test, deployment of the frontal air bags and the seat belt pretensioners would not occur in the event of a crash.

Risk. If EPS assist is lost and then returns, the driver might lose temporary control of the steering wheel, increasing the risk of a crash.

While entering the vehicle, the seat belt tensioner cable may be positioned such that the driver slides over it. This movement may result in the fatigue and separation of the cable.

Risk. If the tensioner cable separates, the driver may not be properly restrained in the event of a crash, increasing their risk of injury.

Remedy. GM will notify owners, and dealers will modify the vehicles to prevent the tensioner from being damaged. Any tensioner that has already been damaged will be replaced, free of charge. From 2000 through 2017, Takata produced millions of air bag inflators using two types of phase-stabilized ammonium nitrate ("PSAN") propellant -- propellant 2004 and propellant 2004L. The contact owned a 2014 GMC Sierra 1500. While the contact's wife was driving 45 MPH, the vehicle crashed into another vehicle. The contact stated that the air bags failed to deploy, and the seat belt failed to restraint the driver as intended. The vehicle was towed to a local tow yard. The vehicle was deemed a total loss by the Insurance Company. The driver was transported to a local medical center. The driver sustained bruised left and right knees, a bruised chest and ribs, and bruised lungs. A Police report was filed. The manufacturer was contacted, and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 124,000.

The contact owns a 2014 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds on several occasions, the vehicle lost power steering assist. While driving 55 MPH, the failure recurred, nearly causing a semi-truck to crash into the vehicle and causing the vehicle to veer off the ramp. The contact's dog jumped out of the vehicle into the bushes and sustained a minor injury. The Brake Assist, ABS, Stabili-trak, and power steering assist warning lights illuminated, and the message "Electronic Steering Failure" was displayed after the failure. At low speeds, and not 100% of the time, the power steering will go out while I'm turning. It just does it on its own and will correct itself in a few seconds, usually when I'm done with the turn. It's at very low speeds, like parking in a parking lot or turning around in front of my house. So far no issues turning at normal speeds in traffic. Very scary at the low speeds especially since my wife and my young daughter might drive it in a year when she gets her license. I can kind of still turn it, but I know they can't and a new driver will more than likely panic.

I am experiencing ongoing issues with the 6L80E transmission that have significantly affected the performance and reliability of my vehicle. The transmission shifts harshly between gears, hesitates when accelerating, and occasionally slips before engaging. There is also a noticeable shudder during acceleration and inconsistent shifting, especially at lower speeds. These problems have become more frequent over time and raise concerns about the safety and dependability of the vehicle. The transmission does not operate as expected for normal driving conditions, and the issues negatively impact the overall driving experience. I am requesting a thorough inspection of the transmission, an explanation of the cause of these issues, and an appropriate repair or resolution to restore the vehicle to proper working condition.

Truck shut off and would not turn back on. Negative battery cable so hot it burned skin off. Would not start, tried to start clicking sound, radio blipped for a moment.

The vacuum pump has been recalled on same year, make and model vehicle, yet my particular VIN is falling to the wayside. IT HAS A VACUUM PUMP issue, causing the brakes to malfunction at slower rates of speed. A "computer programming recall" was applied to my VIN however it is the ACTUAL Vacuum pump that is the problem. This should have been covered in all year, make and models. BRAKES ARE IMPORTANT! Reprogramming did not solve the vacuum pump issue that is causing the brakes to fail! This is absolute negligence on behalf of General Motors.

Starter went out and needed replaced. I know there is a recall on other models in the same year and mode;l but mine wasnt listed.

The contact owns a 2014 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving downhill, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended while depressing the accelerator pedal. In addition, the vehicle felt as if it were in neutral. The tachometer gauge revved up independently. No warning lights were illuminated. The contact pulled to the side of the road. The contact opened the front hood and noticed that one of the transmission lines had failed. The vehicle was towed to the residence. The contact replaced the hose and filled up the transmission reservoir. The contact stated that the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken to a specialty transmission place and rebuilt the transmission. The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that a few months later the failure persisted. The vehicle was towed to the specialty shop, and the transmission was replaced. The contact stated that a few months later, while driving at an undisclosed speed, an abnormal odor was emitting from the front end of the vehicle. The contact was able to pull to a rest area, and when the front hood was open, the contact noticed that one of the transmission lines had a leak and transmission oil was being sprayed all over. The contact was able to replace the transmission hose. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

6.2L Engine has well documneted problem with the valvetrane, I have had to fix it 2 times in 3 months. I have pictures and documents from servicing dealerships. Since my ownership, it has always been dealer-serviced. Unexpected catastrophic engine failure, which happened on a major interstate. GM service technicians know there is a valvetrane issue. This instance, the warning light came on under and overpass, and the truck coasted to a stop just past the end of the on-ramp. A GM (Chevrolet dealership currently has it) and a GMC dealership has serviced it since my ownership.

The contact owns a 2014 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while at a stop sign, the vehicle stalled. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed back to the residence. A dealer was contacted; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact researched and became aware of an undisclosed recall; however, the VIN was not under recall. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 81,000.

The vehicle experienced complete lifter failure on cylinder number 4 bending the intake valve push rod thus shutting down the cylinder. The vehicle has 167,000 miles and is well maintained. The vehicle gave no warning signs that there was a problem. Simply driving down the road, normal engine temperature, normal oil pressure, the check engine light comes on at the same time the engine begins to mis-fire. Pulling over to the side of the road, I could hear lifter noise from the right bank of the engine. The dealership (Ocean Crest Chevrolet/GMC Warrenton, Oregon) confirmed the damage. The mechanic and the service manager both state the damage is a direct result of the GM cylinder deactivation system, and every single one they have repaired has been cylinder number 4. They further stated that GM has recommended a lifter change when repairing the damage, in other words, the lifters that were installed when the engine was originally built are defective. This damage occurs on both the 5.3 and the 6.2 with cylinder deactivation, and according to the dealership, it begins with cylinder number 4. This problem has also been responsible for cam damage which results in total engine replacement/rebuild due to metal contaminating the oil.

The contact owns a 2014 GMC Sierra 1500. While the contact's husband was driving at an undisclosed speed, the contact became aware that there was smoke coming from the rear window and the window shattered. The contact stated that the defroster was operating during the failure. The contact stated that the shattered glass had fallen on the contact's minor son, who was seated in the rear seat. The son had not sustained any injuries. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The dealer was made aware of the failure. The contact was informed that the repair was previously performed and covered under the warranty. The contact was informed that the current repair was not covered under warranty. Engine failed December 2024 at 140,274 miles. 2 cylinders failed due to lifter failure and had a total loss of power. Engine was replaced by a local shop.

Hard shifting transmission and fluid smells burnt, shifts hard in the lower gears and reverse

The contact owns a 2014 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving approximately 45 MPH, the vehicle drove over a slight bump in the road. The contact stated that the vehicle bounced, and then there was an abnormal banging sound coming from the rear of the vehicle. The contact recently had work completed on the exhaust system. The contact took the vehicle back to the independent mechanic who had performed the exhaust repair. The mechanic raised the vehicle on the lift and became aware that the rear passenger’s and driver's side cross members, supports for the shock absorbers, and the rear sub frame had extensive corrosion. The contact was advised by the mechanic that the banging sound was coming from the shock absorbers striking the bed of the truck while driving over the bump in the roadway. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 78,569.

The contact owns a 2014 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving approximately 25-30 MPH, the power steering became inoperable. The check engine warning light was illuminated due to the fuel tank cap being missing. The contact stated that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V246000 (Steering). Vehicle stalling at low speeds Oil pressure solenoid stuck fault and P0011 camshaft fault.

The vehicle’s frame has severely rusted to the point of structural compromise. My certified mechanic determined on December 10, 2024, that the frame could not pass the state safety inspection due to advanced corrosion. Welding is now required to restore structural integrity. The truck has remained inoperable and sidelined since that date. The frame is available for inspection upon request, and I have photos, repair invoices, and a mechanic’s written evaluation. This same frame was previously reworked by GMC twice: May 7, 2018 – Frame treated for premature rust. November 4, 2019 – Frame recoated after prior treatment failed due to improper descaling. Despite these reworks under GMC direction, the issue has progressed to a dangerous level. The structural integrity of the frame is compromised. A severely rusted frame puts occupants and others on the road at risk in the event of a collision, towing, or even regular driving. A weakened frame could lead to loss of vehicle control, failure to protect occupants in a crash, or catastrophic breakage of suspension or driveline components while in motion. Yes. The problem has been confirmed by an independent certified mechanic, who inspected the frame and advised that the rust is beyond surface level and requires welding to repair. They refused to weld during winter due to safety concerns and advised that the truck could not be driven or pass inspection in its current state. The vehicle was previously serviced under GMC’s direction in 20

1. while driving slow or making a right hand turn the vehicle turns itself off 2. periodically the car does not start/no power and does not respond to keyless car lock 3. periodically the dashboard panel lights will not turn off, flash or some will go off but not all All of the above have been a twice repaired GMC recall 17276 and has been occurring since 2020.

The contact was informed that the manufacturer had closed the warranty, because the vehicle exceeded 100,000 miles. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 156,000.

The contact owns a 2014 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle was veering to the right or to the left and was moving upwards and downwards. Additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle was veering excessively to the left or to the right while turning. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where the front brakes were replaced, and the contact was informed that the sway bar end links were fractured due to rust. The contact stated that upon inspecting underneath the vehicle, the lower parts of the links had detached, and one of the links was flapping. The contact purchased new parts from the dealer, and the mechanic replaced the links. Additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle was experiencing hard shifts while driving from a complete stop and while coming to a stop. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 67,000.

Truck completely shuts off at any speed going down the highway. Complete loss of power. Have to coast to side of road and restart vehicle.

Pressing the brakes more than once locks the brakes up multiple times this has happened. Not an isolated event

Catastrophic transmission failure. Original transmission failed at 113,00 miles. I replaced it at the dealership with a factory rebuilt transmission and that transmission failed after only 40,000 miles. Now the vehicle is back in the dealership shop and they want me to replace the transmission a third time. This transmission is the 6L80 which is prone to fail, the torque converter fails and the transmission locks up I contacted General Motors and filed a complaint with them and they said they would not take any action or assist me with the repair.

Within the first week of buying my 2014 GMC 1500 SIERRA, the transmission fluid was black in griddy. I have had it flushed, then filter changed and new fluid put in within 2 week time frame. A week later had to put a new transmission in it. It barely would drive. So a purchase at 2,999 then to a transmission 4,800 and new control arm with ball joint with new axels. They were busted. Another 2,000. Its sicking. Advice

During a turn in the parking lot my vehicle would not allow me to turn something with traction control came up on the screen. The past few days the car got stuck at 0 rpms while driving and did not feel I had adequate power and other times has stalled.

The brakes on my GMC Sierra 1500 lose braking power when operating at slow speeds. The brake pedal will lose braking power, causing the vehicle to not stop at slow speeds. I use my truck to pull a boat and when I back my boat into the water at a boat launch, the brakes will lose power when I am in reverse causing the truck to slid into the water.

The engine has 160,000 miles and just driving the camshaft and the lifters went out during normal driving. It showed no problems before hand. I’ve heard from multiple people that this is a big issue with the 6.2l gmc Sierra engines. The mechanic also stated it’s there biggest problem. The repair cost are $4,000 - $6000 dollars and the have to pull the whole engine and just fixing those two things. The cost of an engine is $7000 for a used with 100,000 miles and to me it would just happen again in around 60,000 miles or less. For a new engine non oem so an off brand it would cost $8,00 - $10,000 just for the engine. Almost as much as the truck cost not including the labor. This is completely unacceptable cost for repair for a common problem with this truck.

I am the original owner of a 2014 GMC Sierra 1500 (VIN: [XXX] ) and began experiencing serious mechanical and electrical issues while the vehicle was still under warranty around 40,000 miles. These included engine RPM fluctuations at idle, vibrations under acceleration above 65 MPH, and intermittent misfiring — all symptoms that are now believed to be early indicators of defective lifters or valve train components. I also experienced repeated electrical failures including a rear turn signal malfunction due to melting/corroded taillight sockets, a thumping rear-end noise, differential knocking, and body panel issues (hood lifting at highway speeds). These were reported multiple times to authorized GMC dealers (Mike Haggerty GMC and Rizza GMC), but I was told there was no issue or no repairs were made. GM refused to assist when I escalated the issue in 2017 via a detailed email, despite all problems occurring within the warranty period. I’m now dealing with a persistent ticking sound from the engine and loss of power, which matches widespread reports of lifter failure in GM’s 5.3L/6.2L V8 engines. These failures pose both a mechanical and safety risk due to stalling, misfiring, and potential electrical fires (in my case, from a failed taillight socket). A class action lawsuit ([XXX], et al. v. General Motors LLC) has been filed regarding these known defects, yet GM has not issued a recall. I’m filing this complaint to add my case to the record and urge NHTSA to investigate thes

I was driving around a lake with my family. We were fishing. I had no warning at all and my transmission started to sputter and jerk extremely bad and my brakes did not work at the same time. I had to use my parking break to stop my family and I from going into the lake at 40mph. I looked up on many websites and forums and saw multiple people with the same issue. I am afraid that this will happen to a young driver and it be very tragic. Please do a recall. My truck is still sitting at my house broken. I am on disability and can not afford to fix it. I just keep paying my payments with no use of my truck. Please I beg of you.

We have a 2014 GMC sierra 4.3 V6 6 speed automatic.. with only 100k miles and the frame is rusted and cracked rear shocks mounts are rusted and broke and the leaf spring mounts are rusted and they broke.. this should be a recall issue..

Timing chain broke with no warning and seized engine. Complete engine failure. Engine had to be replaced. Engine was inspected and replaced by certified gm dealer.

There is a torque converter recall on the 2014 GMC sierra 1500 however my vehicle was not included in the recall but my transmission / torque converter went out.

This vehicle has the same issue as other recalled GMC Sierra vehicles - the brake booster pump is failing, causing braking difficulty, particularly at low RPM and after repeated presses of the brake pedal.
