I was backing my boat down the ramp and the brakes were giving out. I know this was a recall issue, in the past, that I had repaired. Clearly, they repaired it with the same faulty part because it has happened again. When I took it to be repaired they said I had to pay for it this time. The issue wasn't resolved but only deferred until later, with a temporary fix. I could have ended up in the river and drowned. Paying the dealership to fix a safety issue caused by their defective parts is ridiculous.
Rusted out frame. 130k miles and well cared for. I don't think a 10 year old vehicle should have a rust hole in the frame.
I bought this truck used, in 2022 for $24,000... had it put up on a lift and fully gone over before purchasing. Roughly 18 months later I was notified by the garage that there were some rust holes in the frame that needed to be fixed. I had those holes repaired in March 2024, and the vehicle was inspected. At this time I went over the entire frame and found no more trouble spots. I recently went to trade-in the vehicle to buy something smaller and the dealership told me the frame was "rotted" and that the truck was essentially worthless and actually dangerous to drive. These frames are rotting from the inside out, and go from a sellable and valuable truck, to worthless within months or years. GM used inferior steel, inferior rust prevention, and is leaving countless owners stranded with vehicles they cannot sell, are unsafe to drive, and are still paying on. I still owe $10,000 on the truck and the best offer I've gotten has been $3,000. My options are to either put thousands of dollars into the vehicle and pray the rest of the frame does not suffer the same fate (unlikely), or junk the truck and buy another vehicle, meaning I'd need to pay two car loans off and only have one usable vehicle. GM knew about this issue and did not fix it and now hard working Americans are being financially devastated because of it. I bought a nice, clean 8 year old truck, and 2.5 years/20k miles later I'm left with junk and a depreciation of roughly $1 per mile for the time I've owned this vehic
While driving, my wife and I heard a bang, and when she went to turn her head, she noticed that the vehicle was smoking from rear defroster, and the back windshield had smashed. we immediately pulled over and the vehicle did not stop smoking until we turned off the rear defroster. This put our safety at risk as the entire vehicle could’ve caught fire. When we went to check to see if it had been recalled, Our vehicle did not have any open recalls But we found that there were many other GMC Sierra trucks with this issue. We contacted our local dealer who confirmed that he had seen this happen to other GMC Sierra trucks. There was no warning light Or other indicator that this was going to happen. Unfortunately, Our vehicle was not included under recall N192265660 and we strongly recommend that another investigation is performed to include all 2014 GMC Sierra trucks. I have a video showing our vehicle smoking with a smashed, sliding Back windshield.
The contact owns a 2014 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving 15 MPH and making a right turn, the power steering malfunctioned, and the steering wheel became difficult to turn in either direction. After turning off and restarting the vehicle, the failure was self-corrected. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The local dealer was not yet contacted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 120,000.
I am experiencing episodic loss of power steering assist without warning. This lasts for several seconds then power steering is restored. "StabiliTrak” message may be displayed during the event. On one occasion my radio also went off when my power steering failed. On one occasion my vehicle died shortly after losing power steering which almost resulted in me having a motor vehicle accident. I reported the problem to the GMC dealership and have scheduled the next available appointment to have it serviced.
The vehicle lost ALL power, completely shut off with no warning while driving. There were no warnings or anything. Was stuck for about 5 minutes and had to let cars go around me (no power and no warning lights, so could not even use hazard lights). I did some reading and it people have said this could be a problem with negative battery cable needs to replaced. The vehicle started about 5 minutes later with no issues and had to reset clock and date.
The high and low beams quit working while driving at night. This caused safety issue for myself and other drivers. Fuses good and bulbs good. Have seen multiple listings online about the same thing happening to other owners.
Rack and pinion went out and installed a new oem remanufactured one from GM directly. The dealership programmed it but it is facing the same issues for the steering going out at low speeds. The recall was already performed but on the old part. GM Program # N172085440 In the parking lot it goes out and I was driving and slowing down for a turn when the steering went out for 3 seconds going 15 mph then returned.
Entire frame is rotted through. Vehicle has only 55,539 miles on it.
The contact owns a 2014 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated while driving 5 MPH, the steering wheel became difficult to turn. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was able to restart; however, the failure recurred. The dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
The contact owns a 2014 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V645000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic) however; the contact disregarded the letter. The contact stated that while attempting to parallel park, the brakes failed to operate properly. The contact stated that the brake pedal became abnormally stiff. The contact was able to operate the brake pedal and park the vehicle. The vehicle was then taken to a dealer for a routine oil change, and the vehicle was diagnosed with a non-functional vacuum pump. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure; however, the contact was informed that the recall had expired. The failure mileage was approximately 135,000.
The contact owns a 2014 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost power steering functionality, with the stabili-trak warning light illuminated. In addition, the contact stated that the vehicle had since lost steering functionality. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximate 207,900.
Power steering was going in and out then all of a sudden completely went out.
When making right turn steering got hard vehicle seem to loose power and stabilitrak light came on
I have a 2014 Silverado high-country. The truck has approximately 110k miles. I was told by chevy the frame is rusted through and unsafe to work on. They know these trucks had problems with the rust coating and only put out a bulletin to have them recoated. The problem is rust is rust. Once the metal was exposed there is no going back. My truck would other wise last another 50-70k miles.
The contact owns a 2014 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated while inspecting the vehicle, it was discovered that the subframe had experienced extensive rust and corrosion. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The manufacturer and local dealer were not yet notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 116,000.
A loud clunk is heard from the transmission when shifting from one gear to anther after having to reduce acceleration.
The frame of the vehicle is rusted through in 2 areas. I recently noticed the rusting frame. Shortly after I purchase the vehicle the rust preventative coating, that was factory applied, was noticed pealing from the frame rails. I sprayed undercoating on the frame at that time to avoid rust after seeing that the factory application had failed. This has not been adequate as the frame has rusted in an area that the inside channel of the frame did not drain effectively and therefore collected water and salt during the winter months. The frame cross members are also rusting badly. The metal is flaking off excessively. In contrast the trailer hitch on the truck is in very good condition because it is the only part of the frame that appears to be properly conditioned to resist corrosion.
Electrical glitches happen at both, low speeds and while on the roadway. My steering wheel tightens up and I get a message on the dashboard “Stabilitrak” and another one “assisted steering reduced, drive with care”. My vehicle even shut off on me after pulling in to a parking space after turning steering wheel completely to one side
I know this is a well known issue with these trucks. Have had issues with power steering not working at low speeds which they claim it’s do to low voltage. This has happened numerous times and then on May 3rd I went to back into my driveway off a busy state route with hills on each end of the road. Put my hazard lights on let three vehicles pass and then I turned the wheel and gave it gas soon as the truck got into the middle of the road it shut off. Everything stopped working no hazard lights for about 10seconds and then I had to put the truck into park turn ignition key off and then back on to restart the truck. Again this is all do to low voltage from what everyone else has said with the same issue. There are no warnings what so every even the voltage meter is fine and the truck doesn’t hesitate at all it’s like someone disconnected the battery. I’m sure there is a way for GM to reprogram the pc for the voltage drop. At least have something like radio go out or ac, heat other than the engine and entire electrical shutting off. Something like this is going to get someone killed and GM should be held accountable for these problems.
The power steering started going out and then comes back on, which is very dangerous!
The headlights are dangerously dim, can't drive the vehicle comfortably at night. There seems to be no solution for fixing them. A TSB has been issued concerning this, but does little to address fixing the problem.
Stability track
When I am braking at low speed my brakes start locking up and eventually do not work. This has happened on multiple occasions. I have almost wrecked multiple times I rarely drive my truck now cause it is unsafe. There is a recall on the brake booster 2014 to 2018 gmc seria but my truck vin is not included on that recall and it’s doing the exact same thing. GM recalls 3.4 million pickups and SUVs over brake pump Sept. 12, 2019 1 The recall includes the Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra (model years 2014-2018), and affects a vacuum pump defect that may make it more difficult to brake at low speeds.
Back up lights and Tail light problems My Back up lights turn on when the headlights are turned on and do not shut off unless the headlights are off. Also, recently, the rear tail lights were burning out early and would last only two weeks. The source of the problem seems to be in the fuse box. There is no short in the system. It appears to be in the fuse box of the 2014 GMC Sierra 1500. Bulbs were replaced and burned out quickly. Replacement parts are expensive and this problem exists on other Chevrolet and GMC trucks.
The contact owns a 2014 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving at slow speeds, the power steering assist intermittently failed to operate as needed with the "Steering Assist Reduced - Drive with Care" message displayed. Upon investigation, the contact discovered NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V414000 (Steering) which was linked to the failure. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where the contact was informed that the vehicle was previously repaired under the recall and that the vehicle was no longer under recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.
Both headlamps stopped working when driving at night. Neither the low or high beams will work
Remote started my truck. Went to get in my truck about 10 minutes later. There was smoke in the vehicle. The rear defrost shorted and melted a hole in the rubber seal next to my rear sliding window. The heat from the incident cracked and spider webbed my rear window.
On my 2014 GMC, the front driver side seatbelt was not latching. We had to finagle to latch it. To which this point we were unsure that we were safe. So I brought the GMC to the GMC Rosedale dealership and after further investigation they charge me $522 to repair replace the belt. I told them it’s a safety issue, but they seem not to care, I also contacted GMC corporate and they are investigating this. So if it state law that you have to wear a seatbelt for your safety, why do dealerships charge you to repair or replace them.?
The contact owns a 2014 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated while driving 50 MPH, the passenger’s side headlight became inoperable. The contact stated that several unknown warning lights flashed on the instrument panel. The contact pulled over to inspect the vehicle and discovered that the water pump had failed. Despite the failure, the contact managed to drive the vehicle home. The next day upon starting the vehicle, the check engine warning light illuminated and both engine fans began to run at full capacity. The contact called the dealer and made an appointment for a diagnostic test. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 160,000.
The passenger presence module does not work. The deal said if it was involved in a crash there would be a possibility the airbag on the passenger side would not go off because it can't register if someone is sitting in the seat or not.
Oil pressure pump failed to keep pressure despite regular maintenance.
The contact owns a 2014 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated while driving approximately 65 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power and shut off. The failure recurred on several occasions. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and the contact was informed that the failure was due to the oil pump, which had gone into low-pressure mode and shut down the engine. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, and the contact was informed that the repairs were not covered under a recall. The manufacturer referred him to NHTSA. The approximate failure mileage was 186,000.
At slow speeds, multiple times, I have had the truck completely have an electrical failure and the engine shut off. I have replaced the negative battery cable and ensured all connections are good. This has happened on streets when turning and in parking lots. When this happens all of the screens in the truck flicker and the service stabilitrack light comes on and then everything goes out, to include the engine. Myself, my family, and other drivers have been out at risk when the truck completely shuts off on a street. The dealership has not been able to give me an answer. There are many forums online where the 2014-2018 year models of this and similar GM vehicles have had the same problem. We need a specific fix for this before someone gets seriously injured or killed.
Break get rock hard at times and makes it almost impossible to stop at a safe distance
At low speeds, while turning rapidly steering would get stiff and then come back on.On two occasions, lights would flicker and a steering power loss warning would briefly appear, and then disappear
Steering will drop out / skip. Electical items have been an issue since I purcased this truck new. Dealer could never find why the wipers trigger randomly when truck is turned on. Truck randomy dies overnight.
Chasis is very rotten
Transmission lost power
The contact's son owns a 2014 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that when his son parked and exited the vehicle, there was an abnormal gasoline odor coming from the rear of the vehicle nearby the location of the fuel tank. The contact stated that he had checked the vehicle and noticed that fuel was leaking from the top of the fuel tank. The contact saw a streak of gasoline on the side of the fuel tank. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact had taken the vehicle to an independent mechanic who diagnosed and determined that the fuel pump was leaking and needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The contact researched online and related the failure to Technical Service Bulletin Number: 14858 - High Pressure Fuel Pump Possible Leak (Fuel System, Gasoline). The failure mileage was 60,563.
The frame on my 2014 GMC Sierra pickup is rusted through on the driver’s side cab area. A truck frame should last longer than 9 years old. Is GM going to do anything about this problem?
Says I have no recalls. I have terrible gas smell and steering light abs light traction light abs light and hard brake pedal. Seats and mirrors move by there selves. Steering wheel shakes. Overall this truck is worrying me so much I won't put my kids in it. Oh also airbag light on also.
Engine lifters keep going bad. The frame is rotting like I have never seen. Body is rusting out for second time. Blows lights every month. Rain getting in headliner and under rear seat. Ac breaks every year. All around worst fucking vehicle I have ever owned. Gmc will not do anything about this. I'm tried
My truck shuts off in the middle of driving. Completely losing power to anything electric. I can not unlock or lock the door, the windows, hazard lights, steer the wheel to help me move. I can’t do anything. I have almost crashed.
I have only owned the vehicle for about 5 months now and well it just started seeming like the transmission is starting to slip while also making a noise and just struggling to find what gear to stay in. I have service the car per the gm manual and I don’t drive the car anywhere but to work and back and that’s it. So disappointing that in going to have to replaced the transmission so soon.
While driving on the highway, the passenger shock mount that is welded to the rear forward mounted crossmember snapped off due to rust. I have taken many pictures of the damage. I am a Master Certified ASE and Ford technician with my PA Emissions and Safety inspection licenses. I inspected the damage to my truck at my shop and removed the bed. I found further rust and damage at the drivers frame and rear shock mount at the rearward mounted crossmember. The whole rear frame section is rotting away. This caused the vehicle to sway heavily and change the driving attributes of the vehicle. I have not contacted police or the insurance company. There were no warning lamps of any kind.
The contact owns a 2014 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated while driving 30 MPH and attempting a left turn, the steering wheel became stiff and jerked to the right. The contact was able to pull to the side of the road and restart the vehicle however, the power steering failed to return to normal functionality. The power steering assist warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. Upon investigation, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V414000 (Steering) however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 44,000.

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
