2023 GMC Sierra 1500

Defect. General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2021-2024 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Suburban, and Tahoe, GMC Sierra 1500, Yukon, and Yukon XL vehicles equipped with a 6.2L V8 gas engine. The connecting rod and/or crankshaft engine components may have manufacturing defects that can lead to engine damage and engine failure.

Risk. Engine failure increases the risk of a crash.

Remedy. Dealers will inspect the engine, and as necessary, repair or replace the engine. For vehicles that pass inspection, dealers will add higher viscosity oil, install 6 oil fill cap, replace the oil filter, and update the owner's manual. Repairs will be performed free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed June 18, 2025. The electronic brake control module software may fail to display a warning light when a loss of brake fluid occurs. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Vehicle Safety Standard number 135, "Light Vehicle Brake Systems."

Risk. Without a warning light, the vehicle may be driven with low brake fluid, which can reduce braking performance and increase the risk of a crash.

Remedy. The Electronic Brake Control Module (eBCM) software will be updated through an over-the-air (OTA) update or by a dealer, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed October 25, 2024. Defect. General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2020-2023 Cadillac CT4 and CT5; 2021-2023 Buick Envision; and 2022-2023 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Suburban, Tahoe, GMC Sierra 1500, Yukon, and Yukon XL vehicles. The daytime running lights (DRLs) may not deactivate when the headlights are on. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."

Risk. DRLs that do not deactivate as intended may result in a glare, reducing visibility, and increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy. The body control module software will be updated by a dealer, or through an over-the-air (OTA) update, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed January 23, 2023. This recall expands previous recall number 22V-827.

On 9-10-26 Engine spun rod bearings per the dealership repair order Miles 52,796 I was towing a car on a car trailer traveling down the interstate when the motor failed. I had my wife in the truck with me. No prior warnings just a check engine light right before engine failed. GMC dealer replaced engine and returned on 9-14-26. The truck had already had the recall to check the engine and replace the oil to a thicker oil.

The truck shut off and would just crank. It threw the code P129F. And wouldn’t start up until after 15 minutes.

The upper chrome grille molding fractured at the clips and completely detached at highway speeds, creating a dangerous flying projectile. This is an identical material failure to NHTSA Campaign 25V-060. The defective part or assembly process clearly extends into the 2023 model year.

The front grille trim moulding failed and flew off on the highway. Also, the forward collision light on vehicle from the front camera not working and needing to be replaced.

I was driving down the George W. Bush Highway in Dallas, Texas, and the front top bezel above my grill flew off and went over the top of my truck. I have no idea if it landed safely or damaged other vehicles behind me because I was in very thick traffic. This is extremely dangerous as I could injured people driving behind me potentially impaling someone as I was going 70 mph per the speed limit. Just both are being recalls on the 2022 GMC model of my truck. The dealership refused to fix this for me and quoted me over $500 to get this repaired.

This vehicle has water intrusion for the power steering harness. The system went out one day. Vehicle has 40K miles on it. i bought it less than a year ago as a used vehicle with 30K miles on it. Less than a year later i end up with a $6,500 bill for it.

Purchased above listed vehicle new in XXX. Immediately noticed a 'coolant' smell in cab. brought vehicle in for coolant smell issue on XXX and XXX. We were told that there was no issue until finally on XXX we were told the radiator needed to be replaced at OUR expense. XXX we received a letter from GMC advising the "engine coolant control valve" may fail. In XXX while driving on mountain roads (we live in [XXX]) the check engine light came on and while at 50 mph, the vehicle went into "limp mode" we lost power and speed was immediately reduced. We now know that a symptom of that valve failure is coolant smell in the cab of the car, a problem we had attempted to address with GMC from the beginning. Truck rear wheels locked up while going between 45 - 50 mph nearly causing accident. Driver behind me had to lock-up their breaks to avoid collision. This is happening every time I drive the truck for more than 30 minutes. It is happening multiple times a day now. I cannot drive truck - too unsafe to drive. Tried getting serviced, but local GMC dealer said they are backed up with truck transmission issues and can't get mine in until Sep 15 - 3 weeks after first reporting. No warning signs. The locking of rear wheels takes me by surprise.

The contact owns a 2023 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving 65 MPH, the engine made a clunking, knocking, and tapping sound. The engine was driving on seven of the eight cylinders. The contact slowed down and pulled over. The engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer and was diagnosed with a detached valve. The vehicle was repaired under an extended warranty. The dealer informed the contact that the failure might recur. The failure mileage was approximately 12,998.

A GM warranty engine replacement was performed at Heyward Allen GMC in [XXX] on XXX at 70,415 miles. We purchase the vehicle on XXX with 73,904 miles and after driving for a month started having multiple malfunction indicator lights displaying, and experienced a no start condition. We took the vehicle to the Don Ledford GMC dealer in [XXX], and they performed a high level inspection. They found missing mounting brackets, loose wiring harness wires, broken and missing bolts. Issues all related to an engine replacement procedure. Deeming the vehicle unsafe to operate. The origin dealer that was paid through GMC to replace the engine is now refusing any responsibility for resolving these issues. Technicians have video evidence of the workmanship issues, documenting the sub- par repair work performed during the engine change. The vehicle now sits at the Don Ledford GMC dealer awaiting an estimated $4400 repair, before the vehicle is safe to operate on the road. Hood Molding- While driving down highway 45 doing about 75 miles per hour the hood molding detached on the driver side and started beating against the hood. I was unable to reach and exit before the entire mood flew off and over car. Fortunately, there were no cars right behind me to cause and accident, except an 18-wheeler about 2 cars back and he ran over the molding. I contacted the dealership and GMC, but they said no recall on this issue. There were a recall 25V-060 for the 2022 (production dates NOV 09, 2021 - SEP 29, 2022). My vehicle production date is 08/19/2022 and they could have been using the same material. I feel this the same safety issue: If a front grille deflector detaches unexpectedly while driving, there is increased risk of a crash. The photo was taken when I got to the first exit to see what happen. You can see the clasps just broke off.

The 6.2 engine in my truck failed while driving and it has been determine that I need a new motor. This motor was on the recall list. I brought it in for the PICO recall test in October we 2025 and it passed. They then changed the oil for a much more expensive 0w40. The engine failed in August leaving me stranded on side of the highway. It has been at the dealership since August 7th. There is no eta on when the new motor and parts will be available because I’m being told that some parts are on back order. I have looked into trading it in and the value of this truck due to the 6.2 engine recall is significantly lower that it should be. It’s half of what I paid for it 3 years ago. I incurred towing fees and Uber fees. I am no without a truck to tow with.

The contact owns a 2023 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving 70 MPH and looking in the driver’s side mirror, the contact became aware that an unknown object had detached from the vehicle. The contact was unaware that the chrome front grille deflector had detached until arriving at the residence. The dealer was contacted, and the vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed, and the contact was informed that the chrome front grille deflector needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V060000 (STRUCTURE); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The failure mileage was 48,210.

While driving my 2023 GMC Sierra AT4 at highway speed, the front grille piece (GM part 84957848, roughly 3 feet or longer) detached from the vehicle without warning and flew off into the roadway. The piece landed on the shoulder rather than in a travel lane, but given its size, it could easily have struck another vehicle or caused a serious accident if it had landed differently. I was then forced to stop on the highway shoulder to retrieve the part, which put me in an unsafe roadside situation with traffic passing at highway speed. This part had all its retaining clips still intact, indicating a failure of the part/mounting itself rather than a missing clip or improper installation. part number 86274905

I am reporting a serious safety concern involving a 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali, 6.2L L87 V8, VIN [XXX]. This vehicle has now experienced two catastrophic powertrain failures at very low mileage. The first catastrophic engine failure occurred at approximately 23,696 miles. The vehicle was taken to a GMC dealer, where the repair documentation states that the engine had suffered significant internal damage, including damage to the #3 connecting rod, a missing connecting-rod bearing, bearing material throughout the engine, and a scored crankshaft. The dealer determined that the engine was seized and required replacement. GM replaced the engine under warranty with GM engine assembly part number 12740076. The vehicle has now experienced a second catastrophic failure. On [XXX], while traveling approximately 40 mph, experienced grinding, lurching, and knocking, followed by a complete loss of propulsion. The truck would no longer move and had to be towed to a GMC dealer. At the time of the incident, no warning lights or warning messages were observed. The transmission is also suspected to have failed, although the exact cause and extent of the transmission failure have not yet been determined by the dealer. I understand that NHTSA is currently investigating failures involving GM 6.2L L87 engines, including failures occurring after previous recall remedies and engine replacements. While driving truck jolts (rear wheels lock up) then downshifts into a lower gear. Appears to be similar issue as described in Recall 24V797 and 25V148. Not sure why my VIN does not show up on recall. Based on description it is the same problem. Feels unsafe to drive.

While driving, my 2023 GMC Sierra with the L87 6.2L engine experienced a sudden, complete, catastrophic loss of engine power. There were no warning lights or messages prior to the failure. This was a one-time event, but it left the truck inoperable and I have been without the vehicle since it happened. The vehicle had recently passed applicable recall checks and had a routine oil change performed, so it was properly maintained leading up to the failure. A sudden loss of engine power while driving poses a serious safety risk, including the possibility of a collision if it happens in traffic or at highway speed. It is unknown whether a dealer has confirmed the root cause, as the vehicle has been out of service since the incident.

I am reaching out to NHTSA due to a vehicle that I believe will get me and/or my family in a major accident and cause serious injury or death. The vehicle that I had purchased in 07/08/2025 had a clean history report and was bought at 54,587 miles. It started having issues 8,563 miles later (odometer reading 63,150 ) on a trip that was 400 miles round trip. I was driving the vehicle on a highway at 65 mph and i felt a knocking vibration in the pedal it was not long before i could even pull over when the engine throttle had completely lost power causing the vehicle to almost come to a complete stop immediately having to steer onto the shoulder. after failing with no check engine light or warning present during the use of the vehicle on the road. it was giving off high temp/engine overheating with the engine making a continuous knocking sound in the engine. It eventually seized to work completely not being able to shift into neutral to push, and had to get it towed to the dealership 204 miles away. GM had advised the dealership to replace the whole engine which they did, and that second engine had given out 678 miles later (odometer reading 63,828.) I am now on my THIRD engine and i cannot trust or rely this vehicle for saftey or transporation. i have reached out to GM to file a claim and attempt to adress this issue to try and come to a resolution, however they denied my claim and have said that i am not "eligible" for a buyback program. I am considering getting legal attorney

Purge pump failing confirmed at dealership this part has been recalled on same truck but not specifically this vin . I was told I need to report it to you guys so that it could ge added.

The Engine made a noise and it seems to me that this engine will loose power and leave me in a situation that could cause an accident or breakdown in the middle of a bad situation. I don't trust this truck and its engine and i refuse to drive it now.
