NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V246000 Q1- my steering column is faulty and it is on the verge of collapse. Q2- every time I hit a pot hole my truck loses control for a second and it has gotten progressively worse. The car sways from left to right without me moving the steering wheel. Q3- I’ve been having suspension problems that have become worse and worse after being told I’m having suspension problems. I fix what I am suggested too and the problems have worsened. Q4 yes it has been inspected and the issue has been overlooked. Q5 if I try to drive the truck again it will fail, I changed my rotors at the beginning of last month and the two front side rotors have been warped and replaced as of Saturday. I drove my truck just fine until tonight I began losing control of it two times. My brakes are beginning to fail. My brand new rotors have been ruined in less than two days. That’s 4 new rotors in a month. When I arrived at home I opened the hood and applied a very small amount of pressure on the steering columns shaft and it had a lot of play. I added a little more pressure and it moves a lot it felt like I could’ve taken it apart with my hands if I really tried. I’m pretty sure I shouldn’t be able to move the steering column shaft with only my hands if the truck is off.
I have a scan tool and it says my brake recall is unfinished. But website says it has been fixed. My brakes are terrible and keep getting service brakes airbag and stabilitrack. The download they used when I took in for the recall was not finished

Recall on brakes says it's fixed. My brakes fail alot suspension chunks all the time and steering feels like tire is falling off
The truck started making a grinding noise when turning steering wheel left and right. I took the truck to local GM dealer/mechanic for inspection. It was diagnosed as a failing steering rack and recommended replacing the steering rack. A failed steering rack can cause partial or complete loss of steering and potential vehicle accident. As of this time, GMC cannot provide a replacement steering rack and there is no estimated availability timeline.
Today I was driving on a residential road and my truck completely stopped while driving. My wheel locked up and I was unable to steer and almost hit another car. This has also happened a few weeks ago while driving on the highway at 70 miles per hour. My vehicle shuts off, I turn the key back and then restart it and I get the following 2 messages: 2 Keys programmed, and Open then close driver window. This is very dangerous and apparently a major problem with other vehicles as I have found the below additional details. This puts my family and others at major risk. I have asked to dealership to look at it but they state they have to keep it for several days and see the issue for themselves, and since it happens so sporadically I cannot be without my vehicle for that amount of time. Apparently it is an issue with the ground wires ands wiring harness. chrome-extension://efaidnbmnnnibpcajpcglclefindmkaj/https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2017/MC-10113356-9999.pdf https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gvpsaDm-jj4
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk?: The truck just stalls and dies without warning, all lights go off inside and outside and all power is lost. From digging on the internet, I found out the problem is due to one or more rusty/defective connection to ground which stops current from flowing and therefore stalls the vehicle and turns everything off. When the truck stalls, power steering and power assisted breaks are not available and this makes the truck very difficult to guide/stop for most people, making it a significant safety risk to occupants as well as others as the likelyhood of a collision increases significantly. In addition, since all electric accessories are disconnected, warning/flashing lights can not be turned on to advise others that the truck has stopped. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? The problem is hard to reproduce because it happens at random times, it has happened to me at least 5 times in the last month or so. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? NO Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? NO warning messages or other symptom.
I am losing engine power. My OBD2 gives me P2138 and P0700 codes. I have changed the accelerator and knock sensors.
In several areas on the exterior of the truck, the paint has bubbled and is peeling off. This is despite my efforts to really take care of my paint.
The contact owns a 2014 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated while driving 50 MPH, the transmission inadvertently shifted to neutral(N) and the vehicle stalled. No warning lights were illuminated. Power steering assist temporarily goes out while making turns. Lasts for a few seconds then power steering is restored. GMC has recalled other 2014 GMC Sierra trucks for this issue however my VIN was not included in the recall. GM's number for this recall is 17276. While no accident occurred, I was concerned about driving the vehicle. I took it to the closest automotive center and paid to have the issue repaired. Issue is now resolved.
My lifters bent and my valves collapsed. I have had the vehicle repaired twice. No engine light warning. Also in Nov of 2022 oil is leaking into my cylinders. Common problem on several GM forums.

The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where an unknown hose was replaced; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer for a third time. The dealer informed the contact that the steering sensors may be blocked by the rack installed on the front end of the vehicle. However, the contact stated that the rack was installed at the time the vehicle was purchased in 2014. The contact stated that the recall remedy failed to fix the vehicle. Noticed that there was a recall on this vehicle NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V645000. My concern is that I took my vehicle in back in 2018/2019 for this repair. However my vehicle vacuum pump completely failed the other day where I cannot brake. My vehicle is only at 70,800 and fail to see that if a proper repair was completed back in 2018/2019 for it to fail again a couple of years later with low mileage. While I was able to get this vehicle home safely my concern is that if it failed earlier in the day on the highway I may have cause a serious incident.
The contact owns a 2014 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated while driving approximately 60 MPH, as the contact slowed for traffic, the brake pedal became very hard to depress. The contact stated he had to use more than normal leg strength to depress the brake pedal. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that the failure had become reoccurring. The contact stated that the failure of the brakes also occurred while starting the vehicle and shifting into either drive(D) or reverse(R). The contact had not taken the vehicle to a local dealer or mechanic. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V645000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic). The failure mileage was approximately 189,000.
Going under 15mph, applying the brake causes the pedal to become stiff and lock up and not work. This has caused me to almost hit someone in traffic. I immediately got off the road and got my vehicle to a safe location off the road . Communicating with a dealer today to confirm possible recall issue or potential repairs.
Fuel management system requires an add on to keep system from functioning improperly. Lifters making loud tapping sound
The contact owns a 2014 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an undetermined speed, the low-beam and high-beam head lights became inoperable. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact called the local dealer, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000. The VIN was not available.
This truck has a 5 star crash rating, but is rusting very badly due to a defect in the design of the truck. There are tracks in the roof that lead down behind the cab. The water rolls down and then there is an indentation that holds the water. This water holding creates rust, horrible rust. The rockers, frame and the fuel pump rusted badly due to this defect. The 5 star crash rating comes into huge doubt due to such rust from the design defect.
My truck goes into “neutral” or doesn’t have power while driving at times and can cause a car crash.
At low speeds excessive brake pressure is required to stop my truck. Other GM trucks have been recalled for this issue, but i am told my vehicle is not included.
Service brake lights come on. Brake pedal locked up and lights dimming and transmission shifting irrelevant
NHTSA Campaign ID 21V245000 Truck is issuing a service air bag alarm, was my truck given wrong part on original recall. Purchased 2 months ago
At low speeds my power steering will cut out. Today I almost hit a guy at a gas station when my steering went dead and got stiff for a second then came back. After some research I see over a million trucks were recalled for this.
I had the a/c condensor and low pressure line replaced due to the cracked welds on condensor
The contact owns a 2014 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while her husband was driving approximately 65 MPH, the vehicle lost power steering functionality. The contact stated that an unknown warning light was illuminated and then disappeared. The contact stated that the loss of power steering functionality had increased over time. Additionally, the vehicle had started to stall at low speeds. The contact researched online and related the steering failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V414000 (Steering). The contact noticed that the "Service Park Assist" light was illuminated when the vehicle stalled. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer who was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 215,000.
In the process of making a right turn my power steering suddenly quit working causing my vehicle to cross over into oncoming traffic. There was an eighteen wheeler that had to make a lane change to avoid a collision. At this time I had a warning light come on stating a problem with the power steering. I was able to slowly drive the vehicle to a local repair shop. The shop had to reprogram the steering module. I know my model had a safety recall for that very issue and I had it repaired at a GMC dealer in 2017. Apparently the problem still exists and I called GMC Corporate and was told that my vehicle had been repaired and was to old for any assistance. I now have no confidence in my vehicle knowing that this problem could occur at any time.
The catalytic converter failed at 110,000 miles and the brake boost hydraulics failed to work properly at 115,000. The electronic stability control started acting erratically at 115,000 miles also.
The contact owns a 2014 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated while he was under the vehicle performing a routine check-up, he noticed that the frame of the vehicle looked rusted. The contact poked his finger into the subframe under the rear passenger’s side causing his finger to go into the frame of the vehicle. An appointment was scheduled with the dealer for the vehicle to be inspected. The manufacturer was contacted and advised the contact that the vehicle should be diagnosed. The failure mileage was 69,073.
At low speed and idle, brakes lose power and pedal becomes hard to push. Once RPMs increase, brakes regain full use.
The contact owns a 2014 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle experienced a loss of power steering assist. The failure nearly caused a collision. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 85,870.
"Service Trailer Brake System" alert on dash. This is a safety concern for 2 reasons; the first being the chime made to warn the driver is distracting, persistent, and annoying. The second is the trailer brake system is apparently not functioning properly which is a danger while towing. This is not the first time this has happened and is a danger to me, my family, and other on the road.
My truck recently had an engine lifter fail when pulling out onto a very busy road. When I accelerated hard into traffic my check engine came on and I suddenly lost most of the engine power and it went into limp mode. I was almost rear ended when my truck nearly came to a stop. I was told it is a defective/poor design of the cylinder deactivation system from the dealer. Ther is no fix but to replace with the same lifter part number which was done and it also failed again 4 days later in a similar situation turning onto a road into traffic. My truck is now back in the shop to have lifters replaced twice in one weeks time.
Service trailer brake system warning message. Trailer brake controller inoperable.
Whenever driving I get a message stating that I need to service my trailer brake system. This is most likely due to cheap wiring installed by the manufacture. This has been going on for over a couple of months. Just recently, I was making a slow turn and my vehicle shut off on me and I lost control of my brakes and steering and all power to the vehicle which is a huge safety concern and I am unsure if they are related or not
While driving, the vehicle will briefly shut down and lose all engine and electrical power. The GMC dealer was alerted and I was advised to the battery cable that were burned out and the starter shield.
Air bags didn't deploy on 2 separate incidences and brakes went out last incident
When I slow down to make a turn, my truck loses power making the turn very dangerous. I lose control of the vehicle for a few seconds due to loss of power. It is very dangerous for me to make turns.
Lose power steering at low speeds typically in a low speed turn. Stabilitrack warning appears on the dash and sometimes lose power to the entire dash including radio and A/C.
AFM lifters are failing at a high rate. Had lifters replaced for $3k a year an half ago at 125k miles and they failed again at 149k miles just recently The problem is getting worse with the newer models
Cross frame member ahead of rear wheels has rotted and failed. It is located behind the cab and is the cross frame that holds up gas tank and forms the anchor point for the rear shock absorbers. I have been told by dealer that truck is not safe to drive. It is now at a body shop. The suspension is compromised, gas tank could fall, and drivability safety is affected. Truck is only 8 years old, the cross member is not visible to consumer, there has been no undue use or environmental conditions to cause the rot and failure of the component. Further, the manufacturer does not sell a replacement part, so the entire frame of the truck would need to be replaced.
My vehicle recently started "shuttering" while driving. Service report says it is a "common GMC issue with the Torque Converter", $3200. They also reported a "substantial leak" in the radiator, and again, says it is a very common fault of GMC Trucks. And another $2700. If these conditions are as common as they indicate, why are there no corrective measures?
Trailer brake system is blinking to much
The contact owns a 2014 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that upon depression on the brake pedal, the trailer braking system warning message appeared on the instrument panel. The contact also stated that a fuel odor would emit from the vehicle. The vehicle had yet to be serviced or diagnosed. The dealer nor the manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The contact owns a 2014 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated while driving approximately 35 MPH, the air conditioning system was activated however, there was no air circulation. The contact stated that the failure of the HVAC system caused the defogger and defroster functions to be inoperable. The contact stated that due to the failure of the HVAC system to properly defrost the windows, the visibility was reduced while driving. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer to be diagnosed and the contact was informed of a leak in the condenser. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 55,300. The consumer stated the defrost and defogger are not inoperable, but performance is degraded. The repairs were completed by Suttle Motor Corporation on March 28, 2022.
My drivers side seat belt cable broke. I did some research and there was a recall no. 16V209000. I took my vehicle to Swickard GMC dealer in Anchorage AK to get repaired and they fixed the seatbelt but told me it wasnt covered under the recall because the recall had already been completed in 2015. The issue with the seat belt breaking is exactly the issues in the recall and believe the recall was not completed or was completed unproperly.

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
