2024 GMC Sierra 1500

Defect. General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2021-2024 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Suburban, and Tahoe, GMC Sierra 1500, Yukon, and Yukon XL vehicles equipped with a 6.2L V8 gas engine. The connecting rod and/or crankshaft engine components may have manufacturing defects that can lead to engine damage and engine failure.

Risk. Engine failure increases the risk of a crash.

Remedy. Dealers will inspect the engine, and as necessary, repair or replace the engine. For vehicles that pass inspection, dealers will add higher viscosity oil, install 6 oil fill cap, replace the oil filter, and update the owner's manual. Repairs will be performed free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed June 18, 2025. I was driving my truck and I had a sudden loss of power. The engine sounded like a rattle of bolts. It was towed to the dealership and they replaced the engine.

I did not have anyone tell me about recalls concerning my GMC SLT, when can I have what ever it takes to send me info concerning lifters, these have not had any issues yet. Will I have someone to contact me about possible lifter issue. Current miles are 18129. Thanks for your attention. MCG

As I was driving down the road, I heard a loud explosion. I looked around, didn't see anything that could've hit the truck. I thought it was possibly a gunshot that went off. After driving for another 3 or 4 minutes, I heard glass going everywhere. It was the moonroof that exploded. Thankfully, the sunroof cover was in the closed position. Otherwise, glass would've been all over the interior of the vehicle. I called the dealership to report the incident and to see if this was something that could be covered under warranty. I'm still waiting for a call back. I then called my insurance company to report what happened. I was told to seek a repair shop and collect all receipts for the claim. No warning lights have appeared in the vehicle yet. Since we were driving home from a vacation, we stopped and got a roll of vinyl sticker to cover the outside from rain.

While driving on the highway, i went to pass someone and there was a big shutter in the engine and then a load ticking noise from the engine after. All of the lights came on and the vehicle was running rough

While driving on a divided two lane state highway at approximately 60mph my vehicle suffered a catastrophic engine failure causing immediate loss of power in traffic at highway speeds. I had to negotiate highway traffic to steer the vehicle onto a narrow shoulder and continue under reduced power to a location where the vehicle could remain stopped safely. There were no warning signs and no warning lights prior to the issue. The vehicle was towed to Faulkner GMC where it was eventually inspected and determined to be an engine failure consistent with the open recall affecting GM 6.2 L87 V8 engines. A replacement engine was installed under warranty. Additionally, a defective tailgate switch was discovered and replaced. A prior unrelated incident had occurred where the tailgate switch activated on its own lowering my tailgate while the vehicle was in motion. The tailgate lowered onto the tongue jack of a trailer I was towing causing damage to the tailgate. This issue occurred multiple times throughout my ownership of the vehicle until the switch was replaced. GM acknowledged the switch was found to be defective but refused to take responsibility for the damage.

Lifters and camshaft failure, loud clanking, & sudden power loss on the 6.2 motor are the first noticeable signs. Instantly when everything happened check engine light, cruise control, & stabilizer lights flashed. The sudden loss of power forced the vehicle to suddenly slow down forcing my camper into the truck. I was hauling a within weight standerd camper but had difficulty bringing both the truck with the camper to a safe stop. There were no early signs or signal prior to sudden cautostrophic engine failure & all service records have been completed by a GM certified service dealer.

My vehicle has experienced repeated and unresolved electrical system failures and unexpected loss of power steering assist. The problem involves multiple warning lights, module communication faults, drivability issues, and simultaneous malfunctions affecting systems including power steering, traction control, transmission, four-wheel drive, and other electronic controls. Repair records, diagnostic information, and videos documenting the failures are available for inspection upon request. The most serious incident occurred on August 23, 2026, when the power steering failed unexpectedly while I was driving. The sudden loss of steering assist made the vehicle difficult to control and nearly resulted in a collision with an oncoming vehicle. The failure created a significant safety risk because it impaired my ability to safely steer and control the vehicle. The condition has occurred multiple times over several months and has resulted in repeated dealership visits. Repairs have included replacement an HVAC controller, but the failures have continued. The vehicle has been inspected multiple times by an authorized dealer, and the manufacturer has been notified through an open support case. As of the most recent repair visit, no confirmed root cause or permanent repair had been identified, and the dealership was still working with engineering support to diagnose the issue. The vehicle was part of the GM L87 engine recall. The vehicle was taken to the dealership in late 2025 for recall service. The dealership inspected the vehicle for vibration and determined that it required an oil change and updated service manual to require 0W-40 oil. On June 21, 2026 the vehicle experienced an engine failure.

I purchased a 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali Ultimate equipped with the 6.2L V8 engine on XXX. The vehicle currently has approximately 25,000 miles. On XXX, the vehicle underwent the GM recall repair related to the 6.2L engine at Don Mealey Chevrolet. On XXX, approximately nine months after the recall repair, my family and I were traveling on the [XXX] with my two children inside the vehicle when the engine suddenly experienced a major failure. The vehicle became inoperable while we were traveling on the highway and had to be stopped and subsequently transported to Schumacher Buick GMC in [XXX]. The failure occurred unexpectedly while the vehicle was being operated normally. Having an engine failure while traveling on a major highway with my two children in the vehicle created a significant safety concern because of the potential for loss of power and the danger associated with becoming disabled in active highway traffic. GM has subsequently authorized replacement of the engine under warranty. The vehicle remains at the dealership awaiting completion of the engine replacement. I am reporting this failure because the vehicle had previously received the GM recall remedy for the 6.2L engine issue and subsequently experienced a major engine failure at only approximately 25,000 miles. The failure occurred approximately nine months after the recall repair. I am concerned that the previous recall remedy may not have adequately addressed the underlying condition associated with these 6.

My vehicle is under the L87 Recall from GM for engine failure. In September 2025 it was given the recall “fix”, different thicker oil. But on July 1 2026, my engine seized while I was driving 60 mph on the highway. GM has since replaced the entire engine and the radiator. But the “fix” obviously did not work.

I received a notice months ago for possible engine problems. my dealer checked it out and everything was good except for changing oil from 0W-20 to 0W-40. i was in Atlanta, GA on 8/26 and by the time i got home on 8/27, engine was knocking. I barely made it home. the dealer has had the truck since. they said i have to have a new engine. no idea when they will get one inn or when i will get my truck back. i opened a claim with GM (Case #108927907). GM basically offered no assistance, help, etc. i even tried to trade the truck back to my local GM dealership for another truck and they wouldn't offer enough on trade inn (says they wouldn't be able to sell it), GM Corporate wouldn't offer buy back, loyalty program money, etc. as they claim it's under a recall. I have never received anything about a recall for the engine. local Ford or Toyota dealerships will not even consider taking it in on a trade after new engine, says they cannot sell because of engine issue with 6.2L engine. so i'm stuck with a truck that i cannot sell or trade and is now worthless. I'm sure the new engine will fail as well.

Engine stopped working while driving 65 mph on I435 Kansas City. Engine failure had to pull over in 3 lane traffic to get off of roadway. Engine just stopped working. Had towed to GM dealer who performed full engine replacement. 6.2 L . No warning. Just stopped working. Safety traveling on 3 land highway engine stopped with no warning had to work way over the shoulder with no engine.

After the initial recall inspection was performed, I was informed that my vehicle was not affected. Subsequently, the vehicle experienced a catastrophic engine failure while traveling westbound on [XXX] near [XXX], approximately one mile from [XXX]. While traveling at highway speed, the vehicle suddenly began losing speed and power. I was positioned between two semi-trucks, creating an extremely dangerous situation. At first, I looked to see if I was traveling uphill because of the unexpected loss of speed. I then pressed the accelerator in an attempt to maintain highway speed. The vehicle abruptly downshifted and the engine RPM increased dramatically. Immediately afterward, warnings appeared on the instrument cluster, including “Engine Oil Temperature High” and instructions to pull over and allow the vehicle to cool down. The vehicle continued to lose power, creating a serious risk of collision due to the surrounding highway traffic. The vehicle was subsequently towed to Findlay GMC, where it was inspected and diagnosed with a failed engine. The engine was ultimately replaced. This failure occurred after the vehicle had been inspected under the recall and I had been advised that it was not affected. I am concerned that my vehicle may have been incorrectly excluded from the recall or that the recall does not adequately identify all affected vehicles. The sudden loss of propulsion at highway speed presented a significant safety risk and warrants further investigation. INFORMAT

On 06/26/26, I was driving my 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4 with 6.2 engine (Aug. 2024 engine build date) with 27,614 miles down the highway at 60-65mph and my RPMs started jumping and I lost engine power and received this P0016 error message. I was able to coast off the highway at the next exit but this put me and my family at risk. Once I was able to coast into a parking lot, my truck wouldn't start anymore. My dealer picked up my truck and the engine was on backorder and then was replaced and I got the truck back on 08/21/26.

10/01/25: Vehicle brought to dealership for the 6.2L Engine Loss of Propulsion Recall. Engine Passed the Pico vibration test. Oil was changed from 0W-20 to 0W-40. Mileage was 29K. 06/17/26: Engine Seized at 43K miles. Was travelling 50 MPH up a Mtn Pass. Barely had enough momentum to roll to the right shoulder out of traffic. 07/07/26: New motor installed. Back to 0W/20 oil. Since ownership, I have to on a regular basis reset the Collison Warning from Seat Vibration to Beeps. It appears to reset back from Beeps to Seat Vibration every time there is an over the air software update. It might even just randomly reset. I cant tell for sure. I recently had a small backing accident were I was expecting the Beeps to alert me. I mentioned this to my auto insurance company. They told me this was not the first time they have heard of this type of situation.

On 8/31/2026 at approximately 2330 hours I was driving my 6.2L Sierra home. I took a left hand turn and the engine stopped. This happened with zero warning. I attempted to restart the engine after coming to a stop and the starter clicked once and nothing happened. Had it towed to my dealership for service. I was told the engine seized and will need to be replaced. I went through the recall process earlier where I was told my engine passed inspection and the oil was replaced with heavier weight oil and I was told it was good to go.

I was driving home from family’s house 2 hrs away and got home late. When I got home I noticed the upper front grille assembly or top chrome trim piece for the 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali Ultimate flew off at some point while driving. That could have caused an accident for others and myself but luckily no one is harmed.

I purchased a new 2024 GMC Sierra. I brought it to the dealer for the engine recall on the 6.2liter. It passed the inspection and the oil was changed to a heavier weight. After the recall was satisfied and the oil was changed to the heavier weight, around 45,000 miles, the engine failed at highway speeds while pulling a trailer and left my entire family stranded on the side of the highway; late at night. The engine completely failed and would not re-start. After researching the issue online and watching mechanics tear down these engines and suggest the problem, I believe that GMC has created great harm to the customers who've purchased the vehicles with 6.2L engines by allowing us to drive hundreds of thousands of "ticking time-bombs" across the country. Furthermore, it is absolutely infuriating to learn that problems clearly identifiable starting in 2021 were not addressed until a recall in April 2025. I strongly believe that G.M. has mishandled this information and put customers into vehicles that are verifiably unreliable and should correct the problem/take the hit to replace these faulty engines. !!TIMEBOMBS!! Driving at highway speed vehicle began making odd engine noises and then lost power, pulled over and power continued to diminish until vehicle was no longer operable.
