I was driving and was almost home when I heard a pop and started getting jerked back and forth and then just slowed down almost to a complete stop with vehicles approaching quickly almost causing a multiple vehicle pile up I’ve heard multiple people complain about the particular transmission that is put in these gmc and chevy 1500s and am just confused with all of the problems I see on the internet and hear from peers in person why it has not been recalled yet if need be I will make a survey of gmc and chevy owners to let it be known that the transmissions on these vehicles were poorly built and need to be recalled before anybody has this problem that I had today

SERVICE TRAILER BREAK
I was driving into a Walmart parking lot making a turn and my vehicle shut-off while I was driving….I was lucky that it wasn’t another car behind me … 2) i was turning out of my driveway and my vehicle shut off while coming out of the driveway… I live on a busy street lucky no traffic was coming
The contact owns a 2014 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving approximately 10 - 15 MPH with the rear defroster activated on the rear powered sliding window, there was a sizzling sound, and started smelling smoke inside the vehicle. The contact pulled over, stopped, exited the vehicle, started inspecting inside the rear of the vehicle; and saw smoke on the driver’s side rear of the vehicle, between the window and the seatback. While the contact was bent over trying to ascertain where the smoke was coming from, the driver’s side rear window exploded. The contact poured water on the window to put out the smoke. During the explosion the contact sustained a mild concussion and severe earache that lasted for two days; however, medical attention was not needed. The Fire Department and Police Department were contacted and notified of the failure. The contact was informed by the Fire Department that the cause was an electrical system fire. The vehicle was driven to the local dealer to be diagnosed however, the cause for the failure was not yet determined. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was contacted regarding the failure but no assistance was offered. The VIN was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 150,000.
Stability control Truck felt no power and on off on again It happened suddenly How to fix?
When turning 30 mph and under the eps (power steering) cuts out randomly for a second or less and jerks the wheel only causing a slight swerve so far but has me worried and I'll be paying for the software update out of pocket since my truck isn't in the recall even though other 2014 sierras are recalled.
It turned off while driving on freeway I immediately put on N and start back up. It also pulls back as I’m driving normal 35mph. My Rpm gaug goes up to 3 while driving down hill and locks
Cooling system radiator failure. GM has issued a factory bulletin on the known issue Bulletin No.: PI1513F. This could cause safety issues while traveling and have a radiator failure that is know by GM
Transmission shifting rough
Hello, I am driving a 2014 Sierra truck with 17,761 miles, my father’s work truck. The first week I had No problems, the 2nd week the Trailer Brake warning came on relentlessly. New truck, scary Warning sign! I took it to GMC to dislocate trailer brake, they sold me a $340 trailer brake control switch. Upon my return to where I live a loud sound came from when I was idling to wait for construction to accelerating. I noticed once I got home, my back wheels were hot and a burning smell! I hate when you take your car in for one warning sign and you get something so much worst and you paid outrageously for that! Karma!
I was driving my truck when the Brake assist light came on. When applied the brakes they started pulsing and grabbing. I took it in for service and was told that the Electronic Brake Control Module needed to be replaced and the brake fluid flushed.
After driving vehicle for about 40 mins from last parked location, i slowed to take a left hand turn, engaged blinker, accelerated while proceeding to turn left. the steering wheel jerked to the Right and sounded an audible "ding" and door locks engaged. upon driving an additional estimated 100 feet, the entire system shut down. (i happened to be turning into a parking lot where there was a car parts store in town) no power at all, nothing on the display panel, all doors remained locked and i was locked inside the vehicle. i placed the gear shift into Park and tried unlocking the doors, which would not unlock due to no power. taking the key out of the ignition and reinserting it and tried to start did nothing. after a few more failed attempts, the interior lights and display screen flashed (glitchy blinking) and after a few more attempts, when the key was turned to the run position I finally had normal power. the doors finally unlocked. seemed as if the system rebooted itself and i had power and was able to start the vehicle. the dash panel showed a message to roll down the drivers side window, then showed a message to roll up the drivers side window. after i followed the prompts, everything returned to normal. i went into the parts store and had them hook up to a code scanner, which did not show any codes, the battery, alternator, and starter were also checked and were fine. i was able to drive home with no problem. I am afraid to drive my truck because i do not want this to
I’m having a trail break system warning every few minutes. It is constant and beeps consistently. To the point where I almost cannot drive it. It won’t go away after a little while and is constantly turning on and off. This just recently occurred and hasn’t stopped since. Likewise there was no other indication of this happening till about two days ago. It’s very distracting and persistent to the point where I feel like I can’t even drive with it on.
The contact owns a 2014 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving 20 MPH, the power steering failed. Additionally, the dashboard lights and headlights became dim, and the HVAC system shut-off inadvertently. The stabilitrak and "Reduction in power steering" warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle functioned normally moments later. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired by a dealer or independent mechanic. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that there was a recall related to the failure that was already repaired and to take the vehicle to a dealer. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V414000 (Steering). The failure mileage was approximately 65,000.
Driving at certain speeds the truck will just shut off while trying to turn or merge onto the highway. The electronic steering draws to much voltage on the vehicle and it just dies turning and braking after that is a very serious safety hazard and should be looked into I’m a mechanic myself and I’ve replaced grounds done everything I can and still nothing has fixed the issue
We have been told that the recall #17V414 has been completed on our vehicle. However, we have only owned this pickup a little over a year and now the power steering has gone out again. it is throwing a code U0131 which says it is lost communication with power steering control module. We have been told that the power steering module needs to be replaced. I would like to delve into how many people have had to replace this (which is a very EXPENSIVE repair). I truly feel this is still a defect and GMC should own this problem. Thank you for your time.
The vehicle was in a accident where someone ran a red light and my vehicle hit the in the front passenger side. My speed was around 40 to 45 mph there was no restraint with the seatbelt, airbag did not deploy and brakes didn’t work properly.
Trailer Break System service indicator constantly beeps
Engine has a little over 137k engine shut down vehicle towed mechanic reports approx. 1 gal of dexcool in oil pan. heads removed. mechanic reports valve failure, resulting in piston implosion and engine lock up. cost so far is at 7500.00
I was driving on the freeway going about 70 miles a hours lost steering assist about 2 to 3 second. I was driving straight road If was driving in a turn would of lost control maybe hit other cars. Please help with this this.
THE HEADLIGHTS ON MY PICK-UP ARE ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE AND DANGEROUS TO DRIVE WITH. I HAVE EVEN GONE TO THE EXPENSE OF HAVING BRAND NEW ONES INTALLED AND THEY ARE NO DIFFERENT IN THE LIGHTING. I CAN BARELY SEE ONE CAR LENGTH AHEAD OF ME WHEN DRIVING AT NIGHT, WHICH IS PROHIBITING ME FROM USING MY PICK-UP FOR NIGHT TIME DRIVING. THIS IS RIDICULOUS TO HAVE SPENT SUCH A LARGE SUM OF MONEY FOR A VEHICLE AND NOT BE ABLE TO SEE DRIVING AT NIGHT. THERE SHOULD BE A MANDATORY RECALL OF THIS VEHICLE AND THE HEADLIGHT SYSTEM.
THE TRUCK JUST SHUT OFF ALL ELECTRICAL AND DASH CONTROLS AS I WENT TO TURN INTO MY DRIVEWAY. ITS DONE IT TO ME TWICE SO FAR IN THE LAST 3 WEEKS. . NO BRAKES AND NO POWER STEERING.
When driving I went to slow down and couldn't push in the break at all. I couldn't even pump the brakes I had to slam it into park just to avoid hitting the car in front of me
I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL GMC DEALER TO GET THE RECALL CORRECTED BUT I WAS TOLD THEY COULDNT FIX IT BECAUSE MY SOFTWARE WAS DIFFERENT THAN THE ONE THEY USUALLY USE AND THE PROBLEM WAS NEVER FIXED.
Lost power steering while parking. Dash board got alert power steering disable drive with care .
Driving 5 mph, error came on and truck shut off completely while still driving, I was able to start it, drove to my destination, about 10 miles away. Parked and turned off truck, came back, the truck was completely dead. replaced the battery and was fine for a month. Yesterday while pulling up to destination on low gear going slow error showed up, the engine revved high then shut down completely. EPS recall and no dates to service yet.
AC condenser has a leak I believe is to a bad welding on one off de lines this happen on June 29 on my 2014 gmc sierra 1500 whit only 55000 miles on it I been reading a lot complains only I wonder if this is going to come to a safety recall
While fixing an exhaust leak on this vehicle, the grounding cable that attaches to the engine block appeared to be chafed, partially crushed, and exposing some copper. The grounding cable runs down the firewall of the passenger side of the vehicle, runs briefly along the frame rail, and passes underneath the exhaust manifold. There is a potential for the cable to not properly ground over time, causing unknown issues. The vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer or dealer as this vehicle is outside of bumper-to-bumper warranty. A support case was opened with GM, but as an individual, they will not allow me to report the issue with pictures. They require the dealer to be the reporter.
When you push on the break the vehicle’s power shuts down. Yes it is available for inspection upon request. When steering wheel is turned it dies. After this happens stabilizer light comes on and power steering assist comes on. No inspection has been done called dealership and they said the recall from 2014 had already been done. This is a very serious issue when driving in traffic and I do not want to be in or cause an accident
From time to time the vehicles power system will surge, blink, and generally act up. The priblem is intermittent. The check engine light will come in then go off, the engine has completely cut off several times while driving, the transmission acts up, radio will turn off, 120v outlet will turn off, occasionally the vehicle will fun for 5-15 seconds after being turned off and then sputter off. And 95% of the time the truck is absolutely fine.
I had made a appointment to get the recalls resolved at the dealership and I made appointment and everything and they call to confirm thru out the week and then when I showed up they said they couldn’t fix it cause it was a branded title and they didn’t even offer me any other way of fixing it .
While passing a vehicle I lost all electrical power which in turn caused the vehicle to lose power. This same thing has happened several times at low speeds. I have the vehicle scheduled for July 2 to get looked at. The engined revved extremly high and it seemed like the transmission went into neutral. It then restarted. I had to roll the driver's window down and got a stabili Trak light that came on after the incident.
On Sunday, May 30, 2021 this truck caught on fire. My son was driving this truck, he looked in the rear view mirror and saw flames coming up between the bed of the truck and the cab. He was on a single lane road following a river, Highway 55 in Idaho, and the cab immediately started filling with smoke. There is a lot of traffic on this highway and he was trying to find a spot to pull off. His airbag on the drivers side deployed but he was able to push it down and see a dirt area to pull off. There were no warning lights or issues with the vehicle that he was aware of. The police and fire were called to the scene, by bystanders. Obviously my son and passenger were very shaken up by this. My son reported this to Geico, his insurance that same day and has been working with the claims adjuster on this. We wanted to report this because this could have so easily been a different outcome. The truck and all belongings in it burned very quickly. It was towed to Mustang Towing in Horseshoe Bend, ID. No injuries fortunately.
Vehicle started having random electrical problems including dropping out of cruise when signaling a lane change, not starting due to antitheft system error, stabltrak error message, message to raise & lower drivers side window. Ultimately the engine, steering & brakes failed, fortunately at low speed, and we coasted to a stop after the truck ran over a curb. Our safety was at risk as we could have crashed into something. Others safety was at risk as we could have ended up in their vehicle path. The dealer replaced some ground wires, at great expense, and said that usually fixes it. Which tells me that this is a known problem. Can't believe that it isn't a safety recall!
The contact owns a 2014 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated while driving the vehicle, the steering wheel would violently shake and vibrate before the vehicle shut-off. Later the vehicle was restarted and operated as normal. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The manufacturer was also notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 30,000.
ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS SPANNING MULTIPLE YEARS THE TRUCK LOSES POWER WHILE BRAKING AND TURNING AT SLOW SPEEDS. ON MORE RARE OCCASIONS, BUT STILL NUMEROUS, THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURS WHEN BRAKING AT HIGHER SPEEDS WITHOUT TURNING. THE TRUCK DASH LIGHTS, MEDIA SCREEN AND HEADLIGHTS ALL DIM OR FLICKER AS A TICKING OR POPPING NOISE IS HEARD BEHIND THE DASH MUCH LIKE AN ARCHING ELECTRICAL WIRE. MOST OF THE TIME WHEN THESE SCENARIOS HAPPEN THE DISPLAY ON THE DRIVERS DISPLAY SCREEN READS STABILTRAK WARNING. ALSO WHEN THE PROBLEM OCCURS WHILE TURNING AND BRAKING AT LOW SPEEDS THE TRUCK WILL COMPLETELY LOSE POWER AND POWER STEERING AS WELL AS ASSISTED BRAKING. ONCE THE TRUCK COMES TO A STOP THE IGNITION, AND ALL ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS ARE COMPLETELY UNRESPONSIVE LIKE THE BATTERY IS DEAD. IN ORDER TO START THE TRUCK AGAIN, I HAVE TO GET OUT OF THE TRUCK, OPEN THE ENGINE HOOD AND OSCILLATE BOTH THE NEGATIVE AND POSITIVE BATTERY CABLES. MOST OF THE TIME THE TRUCK WILL START UP AFTER DOING THIS. SOMETIMES I HAVE TO USE BOOSTER CABLES TO GET IT TO START. NEITHER THE CABLES OR THE TERMINAL CONNECTORS ARE LOOSE AS THEY HAVE BEEN INSPECTED BY A DEALER SERVICE TECH AND A LOCAL MECHANIC.
THE BRAKE GOES HARD TO PUSH WHEN DRIVING OR GOING IN A DRIVE THRU THAT SOME TIME IT DOES NOT WANT TO STOP
I HAVE A HARD BRAKE PEDAL AND REDUCED BRAKE RESPONSIVENESS.
THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION AND WHEN TRAVELING (IN MOTIONI) AT A LOW SPEED TURNING LEFT WITH A SHARP LEFT TURN THERE IS A POPPING NOISE IN THE STEERING COLUMN SECTION THAT YOU CAN BOTH HEAR AND FEEL. IN FACT, THERE HAS BEEN OCCASION WHEN IT APPEARED TO ME THAT THE STEERING WHEEL APPEARED TO SOMEWHAT STICK OR BRIEFLY FREEZE, AGAIN IN THIS LEFT A HARD LEFT TURN AT A SLOW SPEED. I TOOK THIS VEHICLE TO THE LOCAL GM DEALER TODAY, THE SERVICE MANAGER EVIDENCED THE SAME ISSUE; ALTHOUGH, HE DID NOT KNOW WHAT IS CAUSING THE PROBLEM SUGGESTING THAT I RETURN THE VEHICLE FOR THEIR SERVICE AND REVIEW OVER A DAY WHEN I CAN LEAVE THE VEHICLE WITH THEM.
AC QUIT WORKING AT 62,000 MILES. TOOK IT TO THE SHOP TO SEE WHAT WAS WRONG. WAS TOLD THE CONDENSER NEEDS TO BE REPLACED THAT WILL COST $800-$1,000. SAID THAT THIS VEHICLE IS KNOWN TO HAVE ISSUES BY GMC AND THAT THEY HAVE NOT ISSUED A RECALL. I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED THAT I AM GOING TO HAVE TO COME OUT OF POCKET FOR THIS EXPENSE IF GM IS AWARE THAT THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH THE CONDENSER NEEDING REPLACED IN THIS VEHICLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 GMC SIERRA 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE REVERSING OUT OF MIDWAY MOTORS BUICK GMC IN NEWTON (1124 WASHINGTON RD, NEWTON, KS 67114) THE BRAKES FAILED WHEN DEPRESSED. THE SERVICE BRAKES ASSIST LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT NOTIFIED THE DEALER HOWEVER, THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE ALREADY HAD AN UNKNOWN RECALL REPAIR FOR BRAKES SERVICED AND THE VEHICLE WAS OVER THE WARRANTY COVERAGE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000.
WAS IN DRIVEWAY, STARTED THE CAR AND THEN PUT FOOT ON THE BRAKE TO SHIFT INTO DRIVE. AS SOON AS I WAS IN DRIVE I BEGAN TO ROLL FORWARD EVEN THOUGH MY FOOT WAS STILL ON THE BRAKE. I THEN HAD TO REALLY STEP ON THE BRAKE (IT WAS VERY HARD TO APPLY PRESSURE) TO GET IT TO STOP ROLLING. I THEN IMMEDIATELY PLACED IT IN PARK. THIS HAPPENED SEVERAL MORE TIMES THROUGHOUT THE DAY, ONLY AT LOW SPEEDS, OR WHEN SWITCHING FROM THE PARKED POSITION TO DRIVE OR REVERSE. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS WHEN TRYING TO PARK (CHILD COULD BE INJURED IN DRIVEWAY) OR SLOWING DOWN IN A PARKING LOT OR COULD CAUSE A COLLISION IN TRAFFIC!
BRAKE PEDAL GOT HARD AND UNABLE TO STOP
AFTER ABOUT 5-10 MINUTES OF DRIVING THERE WAS A 'BURNING PLASTIC' SMELL AND ABOUT 1-2 MINUTES AFTER THAT A LOUD BANG (ALMOST LIKE A GUNSHOT) AFTER PULLING OVER, I LOOKED AROUND TO FIND THE LEFT SIDE OF THE BACK WINDOW WAS BLOWN OUT. LONG STORY SHORT, I CALLED THE DEALER TO SET UP SERVICE AND WAS TOLD THEY PERFORMED THE RECALL FIX FOR THIS PROBLEM ON MY GMC.....I DON'T THINK IT WAS EITHER DONE OR THE FIX DIDN'T SOLVE IT. I CAN PROVIDE PICTURES TOMORROW.....AND I WAS DRIVING DOWN A CITY STREET AND IN MOTION - THE STREET WAS NOT BUMPY, IN FACT IT WAS SNOW COVERED. I THINK THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A FIRE HAZARD JUDGING BY THE HORRIFIC SMELL.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 GMC SIERRA 1500. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE APPROACHING A STOP SIGN, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHAKE FORCEFULLY. THE CONTACT STATED NO WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE LOCAL DEALER LIBERTY BUICK GMC (9028 E INDEPENDENCE BLVD, MATTHEWS, NC 28105, (704) 708-8000) HOWEVER, THE MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT STATED HE CONTINUED TO EXPERIENCE THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED WHILE DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS, THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL SOUND COMING FROM THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE WHEEL AXLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO LIBERTY BUICK GMC WHERE THE MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN TO GRIFFIN BUICK GMC (2500 W ROOSEVELT BLVD, MONROE, NC 28110, (704) 289-3135) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED WITH NEEDING THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE STRUT TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO LIBERTY BUICK GMC AND THE REPAIRS COMPLETED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNDISCLOSED SPEED, HE HEARD AN ABNORMAL SOUND COMING FROM THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED HE HAD THE TIRES REPLACED AND AN ALIGNMENT PERFORMED BUT CONTINUED TO HEAR THE ABNORMAL SOUND. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO LIBERTY BUICK GMC AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE GEARBOX NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD BEEN INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 87,000.
THE VEHICLE'S TRANSMISSION MAKES CLUNKING SOUNDS, AND JERKING MOVEMENTS WHEN ACCELERATING AND DECELERATING (HIGHWAY). WHEN STOPPED ON AN INCLINE THE VEHICLE DRIFTS BACKWARD, ONCE YOUR REMOVE YOUR FOOT OFF THE BRAKE (STREET). THE VEHICLE HAS ROLLED BACKWARDS WHILE IT WAS FULLY PARKED AND UNOCCUPIED.
I WAS IN A ACCIDENT I GOT T BONE MY AIR BAG DIDN'T DEPLOY HAVING TO GO TO HOSPITAL TO HAVE SURGERY.*DT
2014 GMC SIERRA 1500 4WD ~75K MILES. SOMETIMES WHEN I ROLL UP MY WINDOWS OR USE MY BLINKER AND IT SHUTS OFF CRUISE CONTROL (HWY). AND SOMETIMES WHEN I HIT MY BREAKS MY HEADLIGHTS WILL DIM (HWY, CITY STREETS, PARKING LOTS). WHEN I'M TURNING SLOWLY (IN PARKING LOTS) THE STEELING WILL OCCASIONALLY LOCK UP AND ONCE IT LOST POWER ENTIRELY. MY BATTERY WAS TESTED AT BIGO AND SAID IT WAS FINE. I'VE SEEN THIS ONLINE A LOT FOR THIS TRUCK AND SIMILAR YEARS, BUT NO ONE SEEMS TO HAVE A RESOLUTION. WITH SO MANY INCIDENTS I'M SHOCKED THEY DON'T HAVE A FIX OR ANY IDEA WHAT IS WRONG.
VEHICLE GETS STUCK IN 4 WHEEL DRIVE. EFFECTS DRIVABILITY AND STEERING. SAFETY CONCERN WITH VIBRATION ON DRY PAVEMENT.

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
