The low-pressure fuel pump inside the fuel tank may fail.

Risk. If the fuel pump fails, the engine can stall while driving, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy. Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will replace the fuel pump assembly with an improved one, free of charge. Owners of specific models were notified that remedy parts were available starting January 21, 2021. Owners of other models will be notified as remedy parts become available. Remedy parts should be available for all affected vehicles by late March 2021. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-888-270-9371 or Lexus customer service at 1-800-255-3987. Note: This recall is an expansion of recall 20V-012. Toyota's number for this recall is 20TA02. Lexus' number for this recall is 20LA01.

During the manufacturing process, the oil galley in the rotor for the brake booster vacuum pump assembly may have been improperly machined possibly resulting in a sudden loss of brake assist.

Risk. A sudden loss of braking assist can increase the risk of a crash.

Remedy. Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will replace the brake booster vacuum pump, free of charge. The recall began on May 9, 2018. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-888-270-9371, or Lexus customer service at 1-800-255-3987. Toyota's numbers for this recall are J0K/JLD.

Defect. Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2017-2018 Toyota 4Runner and Tundra, 2018 Toyota Highlander, RAV4 and Lexus GX460 and 2017 Toyota Sienna and Tacoma vehicles. These vehicles may have incorrect load carrying capacity modification labels. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 110, "Tire Selection and Rims."

Risk. An incorrect load information label can result in the operator overloading the vehicle and increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy. Toyota will notify owners and provide them with corrected labels, free of charge. The recall began on January 23, 2018. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331. Toyota's numbers for this recall are H0Z for Toyota vehicles, and HLF for Lexus vehicles.

Defect. Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2016-2017 Tacoma vehicles equipped with a six-cylinder engine. The affected vehicles have a crank position sensor that may malfunction, potentially resulting in an engine stall.

Risk. An engine stall may increase the risk of a crash.

Remedy. Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will replace the crank position sensor with an improved design, free of charge. The recall began July 26, 2017. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331. Toyota's number for this recall is H0H.

Defect. Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2016-2017 Tacoma vehicles. Oil may leak from the area where the rear differential carrier is assembled to rear axle housing.

Risk. If the vehicle is operated with an insufficient amount of oil in the rear differential, the differential may seize and cause a loss of control, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy. Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the rear differential for oil leakage. Based on the inspection, dealers will either tightening the fastening nuts or replace the fastening nuts and gasket. If the rear differential components are damaged, the rear differential carrier assembly will be replaced. The repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall June 19, 2017. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331. Toyota's number for this recall is H0G.

The contact owns a 2017 Toyota Tacoma. The contact stated that while driving in the rain, the passenger inside the vehicle became aware of fluid leaking inside the cabin of the vehicle from the third rear brake light. The contact inspected the vehicle and became aware that there was mildew nearby where the failure started. There was an odor inside the vehicle and thought that the failure was coming from the cabin air filter. The contact stated that the instrument panel lights and the display screen were not illuminating properly at night. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed with a failure of the seal on the third brake light. The failure mileage was 55,000.

Rear pressure vents leak and can cause mold with can cause breathing problems.

Description of the Problem: I am filing this safety complaint regarding severe, premature clear coat failure on my 2017 Toyota Tacoma (Magnetic Gray Metallic). The factory paint defect is actively creating two distinct safety hazards involving driver visibility and cabin air quality. First, the clear coat on the hood has failed in uneven, patchy areas, exposing the base coat. The stark contrast between the dull exposed paint and the remaining clear coat creates highly irregular, fractured sun glare. When driving in direct sunlight, this uneven reflection casts unpredictable, blinding glare directly into my line of sight through the windshield, temporarily compromising forward visibility. Second, the clear coat is actively chalking and degrading into a fine chemical dust. Because this deterioration is occurring heavily on the hood, aerodynamic airflow during normal driving sweeps this micro-particulate dust directly into the cowl intake vent located at the base of the windshield. As a result, the HVAC system pulls these deteriorating clear coat particles into the passenger cabin. This introduces airborne chemical dust into the enclosed vehicle, creating a continuous inhalation and respiratory hazard for the driver and passengers. Toyota is aware of widespread paint adhesion and clear coat issues. They have issued Customer Support Program (CSP) ZKG to repair peeling paint on specific white colors (040/070), but they are refusing to acknowledge the exact same chemical failure oc

Vehicle: 2017 Toyota Tacoma Issue: Persistent water intrusion, extensive mold contamination, and unresolved condition following Toyota Limited Service Campaign 21TD03. Approximately 12–18 months ago, Gray-Daniels Toyota in Brandon, Mississippi, performed Toyota's service campaign addressing water intrusion through the rear center high-mounted brake light. At that time, the vehicle's carpeting was wet and mold-contaminated. The dealership replaced all carpeting as part of the campaign repair. Within two days of receiving the vehicle, I contacted the dealership's service department and reported that the interior remained wet and the condensation problem had not improved. The service department advised me by telephone that Toyota was aware of another water-intrusion problem involving the rear cabin vents. I was informed that nothing further could be done unless I paid for an expensive additional repair. The dealership did not reinspect the vehicle. The water intrusion continued, and the vehicle now has extensive visible mold contamination, particularly in the rear floor area. I no longer consider the vehicle safe to occupy or operate because of concerns about exposure to mold and airborne contaminants. I am concerned that the original manufacturer-authorized repair failed to resolve the water intrusion, that an additional known source of water intrusion was not investigated, and that the resulting contamination presents a potential occupant health and safety hazard. While driving at highway speeds on the interstate, the driver-side sun visor suddenly experienced an internal mechanical failure, snapping at the pivot point. Instead of detaching completely, the visor dropped down into a vertical position, completely blocking my forward windshield view. Because this occurred while driving directly into blinding sunlight, the combination of the obstructed windshield and the sudden, unshielded sun glare caused an immediate and severe loss of forward visibility. This created an imminent crash hazard on a high-speed roadway, requiring an emergency reaction to blindly clear the obstruction from my field of vision while attempting to maintain vehicle control.

My 2017 Tacoma TRD Off Road (manual transmission) makes a constant chirping sound when the engine is running and increases chirping sound when accelerator is pressed. The chirping sound ceases when the clutch is pressed in. It's clear through research that this is a "throw out bearing" issue. Toyota dealership confirmed the same issue and replaced the throw out bearing on 6/24/26 through 7/2/26 (as covered by extended warranty). On 7/3/26, the chirping sound remains, possibly worse/louder. On 8/28/26 through 8/31/26, a different Toyota dealer changed the throw out bearing again, but added changing the entire clutch system (being clutch disc assembly, clutch cover assembly, pressure plate, fly wheel and fly wheel sub assembly). Car was picked up and still makes chirping noise. Research of this issue notes: Quill Wear: The aluminum snout (quill) the bearing slides on can groove and wear down over time; and Toyota TSB: Dealerships previously addressed this under technical service bulletins with updated OEM replacement parts, though the noise can sometimes return if the core design interaction isn't changed. This is a design flaw, using an aluminum snout/quill versus a steel snout. This issue is all over the internet, although when I called Toyota Brands, they said they cannot help me. This should be a recall item for Toyota to fix.

The parking brake sticks. This is an issue because the vehicle automatically applies the parking brake briefly when switching from neutral to first gear or reverse to prevent rollback. When this happens, the parking brake sticks, and the rear wheels lock. I believe the brake cables have been infiltrated with water resulting in rust/corrosion.

Common issue reported amongst 2016-2019 Toyota Tacoma owners. Noticed brake fluid dripping from under driver's side dash directly under brake pedal onto floor mat. Upon inspection, found brake fluid dripping down from what appears to be brake booster. Leaking brake booster should be a safety recall with replacement covered by Toyota.

Truck has 116k miles, started losing power and acceleration diminished. CEL and Trac Off light came on. Pulled over twice after experiencing same issue. Took to mechanic and diagnostic code P0301 (cylinder 1 misfire). Replaced 6 spark plugs to be safe, and replaced broken coil in cylinder 1. Drove less than a mile and CEL came back on. Brought to dealership this time and they found a leak in the head gasket and noticed warping in cylinder 1, along with code P0301 still present. They reported back to me stating it needed a machinist to resurface the the cylinder head, that the repair is mechanical. Even outside of warranty this fix should not be costing $13,000. The truck has been properly maintained for the past 9 years, all oil services and replacing any wear and tear items. Mechanical (warping) is manufacturing issues.

Clear coat and paint began to oxidize and fade after 4 years of ownership even when maintaining with wax

The contact owns a 2017 Toyota Tacoma. The contact stated that while driving, the engine revved lightly. Over time the vehicle began to lunge forward, and the revving had become more intense. The RPM increased and revved. While reversing, the vehicle lunged. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the failure was due to the map sensor and throttle body. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was approximately 75,000.

Water leak from cabin pressure vents behind rear seats. Water leaks directly into carpet causing unknown mold growth. This mold growth is a safety issue due to the cognitive and respiratory problems associated.

Product identification: Brand: Dasaita Model: HA2161H3 ASIN: B0CQNWQR8D Purchased: September 4, 2025, via Amazon Aftermarket Android head unit installed in a 2017 Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport caused electrical interference with the vehicle's brake stop switch circuit (DTC C1425), resulting in autonomous braking without driver input, simultaneous ABS and Traction Control warning lights, and a dashboard warning indicating simultaneous accelerator and brake input. Two independent repair facilities confirmed the head unit as the probable cause. Symptoms resolved upon removal of the head unit and reinstallation of the factory OEM unit. The product is currently listed as unavailable on Amazon. Injury or accident: None, but describe it as a near-safety incident since the vehicle was braking itself while in motion.

Vehicle stalled on highway bridge. Took to mechanic shop. They put the diagnostic code machine on and the code indicated fuel pump failure. Toyota does have a recall notice for the year, make, and model of my vehicle. But not showing on my VIN.

My 2017 Tacoma extra cab has paint peeling around the both windows and both fenders. Toyota states the four door trucks are covered under the customer support program 23TE08 but the extra cabs are not. My truck currently has 13,500 miles. They need to include the extra cabs.

On Tuesday, April 14, 2026 I was looking for something in my rear seat and noticed the seat was damp. I couldn't figure out the cause so I goggled it and found out that Toyota had a limited service campaign called LSC21TD03 on my 2017 Tacoma because of the third brake light having a gasket issue causing water to enter the vehicle. I called a local Toyota dealer and was told that the fix for my vehicle had expired in 2025. This water intrusion from the high third brake light can cause mold, interior damage, or electrical issues. This is an issue that Toyota previously acknowledged but has now stopped covering it. I called Toyota Corporate and was again told yes the repair fix was expired. I asked why wasn't I notified and was told that Toyota sent out letters. I told the representative that I never received a letter and was told the mailing was done by an outside company. I asked what could Toyota do to help me and was told to go back to the dealer and maybe they "would give me a discount or reduced price on the fix". The dealer offered nothing. Upon further research I found that several Toyota Tacoma owners state they were not aware of the service campaign and ended up changing the light themselves or paying out of pocket to have it repaired. I feel that this is an issue that Toyota is aware of and they should take care of it. This should have been a recall issue rather than just a service campaign that the public was not fully aware of. 2017 Toyota Tacoma painted in MGM (MG1). The trucks paint/clearcoat are quickly failing from the factory paint application. This is a garage kept vehicle with 75k miles. Toyota refuses to accept any ownership of the factory paint application. This is a common issue amongst all Tacoma's, regardless of year or color.

Have had engine issues such as stalling, rattling, limp mode, rough idling and engine missing. Have had repairs done but continues to have major issues where it is not functioning properly.

There is a leak the rear differential. There is a recall on this issue

I was driving on the highway when my vehicle suddenly lost power. The engine light and traction control light came on, and I lost power, and the engine started sputtering. I had to pull off to the side and put on hazards. My Tacoma would only drive about 25 MPH after this happened. Based on a quick search, this is a very common problem in 3rd-generation Tacomas!

The contact owns a 2017 Toyota Tacoma. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, it was discovered that the front driver’s side heated seat was inoperable, and the seat was not heated while the switch for the heated seat was activated. Upon inspection, the contact discovered that the electrical wire connector and wiring harness had melted and was destroyed and that the heating components inoperable. The manufacturer and local dealer were notified of the failure and informed the contact of a Technical Service Bulletin regarding the failure, but no assistance was offered. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The failure mileage was 65,000.

Truck does not accelerate fully when I hit gas pedal. The truck stalls and my gas consumption is off.

Clock spring has failed. I've lost all steering wheel button controls as well as cruise control. Air bag light has now come on. I am afraid that if I get into a wreck, the airbag will not deploy. This seems to be a common issue with this select year for this Tacoma.

Odometer Fraud. The contact purchased a 2017 Toyota Tacoma. The contact stated that while attempting to register the vehicle, it was discovered that there was a mileage discrepancy. The vehicle was a private sale. At the time of purchase, the vehicle mileage was 87,000, and at the time of registration, it was discovered that the mileage was 220,717.

The contact owned a 2017 Toyota Tacoma. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked and unoccupied, he was inside a client's home, and the contractors who were working on the client's roof came inside the client's home and alerted the contact that his vehicle was on fire. The contact stated that upon exiting the client's home, the contact noticed the fire coming from under the front hood of the vehicle. The fire department was called. The fire department extinguished the fire. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. The vehicle was then towed to the insurance company for investigation. Then the vehicle was towed to the dealer for manufacturer investigation. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 123,000.

I was driving my 2017 Toyota Tacoma and I my car suddenly was lurching and running rough. I had to put on hazards on a main road and pull over immediately and was not even able to let it run for air conditioning. It was 108 degrees out that day, waited for 1 hour 30 minutes in heat. Had truck towed to mechanic that stated my fuel pump was bad and there was a federal mandate recall on this. I have the paperwork for this (attached), when I called dealership they said it was not covered so I called advocate for Toyota that stated my truck was built in June and the mandate was only for September of 2017 and forward. So I have the exact same problem that they have a federal mandate to fix but won't fix mine. If I had been on the freeway I could have been killed. I have attached estimate to fix.

Hi there, I am reaching out as I am super frustrated. I received a text from Capital Toyota stating my 2017 Toyota Tacoma had a safety recall for a water leak. I contacted the dealership and they told me my vehicle wasn't eligible for this recall to reach out to cooperate, in which I did and they told me it was only for certain vehicles. However I have been texting with the service dept at Capital Toyota and they are saying it was apart of the recall but it has expired. 2017 Tacoma TRD Pro Water has been leaking through the rear air-pressure vents for quite some time. I have had a moldy/musty smell in the truck after a good rain for at least 6 months. Then I started noticing mold coming up on the driver's side kick plate. We went through all the diagnostic steps with Toyota dealership, who kept telling us it was the windshield leaking. We had the windshield removed and reset. The windshield people told us it was the cowl under the windshield allowing water to come in through the air filter behind the glovebox. We took it back to Toyota dealer and they could not find the problem. I paid them $165 to "not" diagnose my truck. They also handed me an estimate for $11,000 to remediate the mold. When we got the truck home, we started looking up the problem on Tacoma forums and YouTube and finally discovered it was the air vents behind the rear seat. I pulled the plastic molding back and there was tons on mold. I took it back to the dealership for repair. The dealership has now said they will replace the air vents but will not remediate the mold. I have had sinus trouble for more than a year and did not know why. I believe this is the reason.

Hydraulic, power assist:vacuum

The rear seatbelts metal ends are disintegrating with extreme corrosion. Discovered just before 25,000mile service. No corrosion in any other part of the vehicle.

A rear coolant leak crossover pipe rear of engine top 14 hour reapair . No warning signs just an oder local repair shop

Not a safety issue. The clear coat seems to be fading on a lot of the 3rd gen tacomas from the factory. Fades much faster than it should.

Brake oil leak from brake booster. Oil goes into the cab and oil leaks behind the break pedal onto the floor mat.

The contact owns a 2017 Toyota Tacoma. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact, who is an independent mechanic, diagnosed the vehicle and retrieved a DTC code for a cylinder #3 misfire. The contact swapped the spark plugs and the code indicated misfires in four cylinders. The contact stated while inspecting around the top intake manifold, the contact noticed that the flap used to regulate the air to the engine had detached. The contact was afraid of driving the vehicle and was concerned that the unknown plastic piece could cause engine failure, was also detached. The dealer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact research the instructions. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 160,000.

2017 (manufactured in June) model year Tacoma vehicles painted with 8T0 Blue Metallic exhibit clear-coat peeling on one or more panels. The peeling occurs in the clear coat layer, exposing the base coat to the sunlight and fading the color to white. There is a current TSB #T-SB-0004-20, but Toyota says my vehicle was manufactured outside the affected Production range, as you can see in the attached, my vehicle's clear coat peeling looks exactly as described in the TSB. I have seen online other people are experiencing this pushback as well from Toyota. This TSB should be extended at least through June of 2017 if not through the end of the year. Toyota is REFUSING to make the repairs.

Master cylinder or some part near brake pedal inside the cab is leaking oil or a oil like substance on to floor mats and floor.

I had noticed my heated seat stopped working. Upon investigation and searching the web for similar issues I found that a relay for the seats located under each front seat was the issue. I saw pictures online of others and when I pulled my seat out I found the connection between the wires and relay had been completely burned and melted. This is Toyota part number 87501-0C020. When looking up this part it is discontinued with no replacement. There’s no recall or warning from Toyota for this issue. This same part is also installed on Tundra too. By the amount of burning this is definitely a safety issue and I don’t know why it has not been addressed.

Seat heater not working. i looked online to see what the issue could be and learned there was issues with the seat heater amp burning up from being defective. I pulled the amp and noticed the amp was burnt up and so was the wiring. This is a fire hazard.

Noticed that my floor is getting soaked for no reason. After bring my truck to Arlington Toyota I found out that is was the cabin pressure vent that was leaking. The cabin pressure vent is found between the truck bed and cab. They recalled the third break light in 2019 for leaking water into the cabin but Toyota won’t recognize this pressure vent as a recall which is also leaking water into the cabin. After pulling up all of the carpet I have black mold all under the carpet where my newborn baby was riding. Black mold is a huge health concern. Looking online this is a known issue with Toyota tacomas. My parts to fix this issue have been back ordered for two mths so far, still with no ETA on when they will be available. According to The service rep, I am one of nine people currently dealing with this same issue at Arlington Toyotas dealership alone. so no time frames have been provided. When I was quoted the 5800 to fix this issue they suggested I go through insurance. This seems to be a known issue with product quality and instead of recalling they are pushing it to insurance Companies. Seems to be a shady practice Toyota is pulling and no one is big enough to stop them.

Paint is peeling around doors on both sides of the vehicle. Both front and rear doors of the cab. Common known issue.

Unit 1 vehicle ran a red light at approximately 45mph and impacted the passenger side door of the Tacoma (unit 2) pushing the Tacoma into a stop vehicle (unit 3) in the turning lane. Unit 1 and unit 3 air bags deployed but none of the air bags in the Tacoma deployed. One of the pictures taken show the front driver side air bag sensor in the wreck frame.

BRAKE FLUID LEAK SEEPING FROM BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER, LEAKING FROM ACTUATOR TO BRAKE PEADAL AND DRIPS OF FLUID FOUND ON FLOOR OF VEHICLE. This is an obvious safety risk as not only is oil/fluid dripping on to the brake pedal, if the master cylinder goes out the brakes could stop working completely. This component has been inspected and confirmed by a Toyota dealership and there are other examples of this same issue happening to other Tacoma owners. This issue has been recalled on 2018 Toyota Tacomas, however, the recall needs to be expanded to more years as it is obvious that other Tacomas are being effected.

2017 Toyota Tacoma double cab-V6 with 62K approx miles. On or around April 29th 2024, I was traveling in this truck when there was a sudden and complete loss of power, two check engine lights came on-The "trac off" light and the check engine light came on. I needed to pull over immediately for safety. I ended up driving the vehicle to the Toyota dealership in limp mode. The vehicle has sat at Tustin Toyota now for weeks with the Toyota dealership initially suggesting that a ACIS Flap broke off inside the intake manifold of the car. This was replaced and the vehicle is still providing the same alarms and still in limp mode. The initial fix(whihc did not fix the problem was a full replacement of the intake manifold). Now the dealer is suggesting that a piece(s) broke off the intake manifold and ended up inside the engine so now dealer is recommending and entire engine break down to attempt to further diagnose the situation. Again it looks to be a complete failuure of the ACIS system and the intake manifold. This problem has presented a EXTREME safety issue due to comp[lete loss for power initially then truck sits in LIMP Mode. Very dangerous!

Brake fluid leaking on drivers side floor mat because of master cylinder. Brakes are now less responsive even though pads have been replaced. 2018 -2019 Tacomas were recalled for the same issue. This is a pretty big safety concern.

Brake master cylinder is leaking into the lower dash area and onto the floor mats.

The Tacoma still has only 10,000 original miles. We yearly replace the oil when we have our annual vehicle inspection. The truck has been trouble since the beginning. Early on I noticed when going downhill, the automatic transmission seems to slip when applying the gas. I have taken the truck back to the dealer in Kona to be told that it is not part of the rear end differential recall some years ago. I asked them to make a notation of this should the transmission or rear end differential fail in the future. Recently, we received an informational letter from Toyota regarding something about a possible faulty high pressure fuel pump. I made an appointment at the dealer and since I was there asked them for tire rotation, oil change and annual vehicle inspection. I explained to the service writer that I still believe there is a rear end or transmission problem. At first, she said, the recall was never done and later said it was done.
