This was a rental vehicle from ABQ. I was driving and had a passenger in the front passenger seat. It was approx 7:50PM Mountain Time on XXX. We were head south from [XXX] on XXX. About 10 miles out of Santa Fe we heard a loud pop like a gun shot and the sunroof glass exploded and shattered in the van. Traffic was light. We were about 15 seconds behind the next car in front of us and 10 or more seconds ahead of a car behind us. We thought maybe a rock hit the glass and shattered it but we were not close enough to a vehicle for that to occur. In looking online, there are verified reports of this sunroof glass spontaneously exploding. The event startled us. A bit of glass fell on us but we were not hurt. Reading this record
No unusual pattern of severe incidents in the complaint record.
Complaint counts track how many cars were sold and how long they have been on the road as much as they track quality. A common model from 2013 has had a decade to accumulate reports; a rare one from last year has not. The signal worth weighing is in the severity columns, in whether the same component keeps appearing, and in whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
Most recent recall on file: none. Source: NHTSA Office of Defects Investigation.
