2004 Toyota Sienna

Defect. Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain model year 2004-2011 Sienna vehicles originally sold in, or currently registered in, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, Wisconsin and the District of Columbia. The affected vehicles have a spare tire carrier assembly mounted under the vehicle whose attachment cable may corrode due to high concentrations of road salt splashing onto the spare tire carrier.

Risk. If the carrier cable is corroded due to road salt, the spare tire may separate from the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy. Toyota sent owners in August 2014 an interim notification to advise owners of the recall and that dealers will perform an interim remedy to remove the spare tire and relocate it to the luggage compartment, free of charge. Owners are being mailed a second letter as parts become available and dealers will replace the spare tire carrier assembly with an improved one, free of charge. The remedy campaign is being performed in phases. The first phase of the recall began July 7, 2015. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331. NOTE: 2004-2010 Siennas subject to this recall were subject to recall campaign 10V-160 initiated in 2010. Those owners are advised that they must have their vehicles remedied again under this campaign and that having the earlier recall completed did not remedy their vehicles. Additionally, model year 1998-2003 Siennas were recalled as part of safety recall 10V-160. Owners of those vehicles that have not had not the remedy performed on their vehicles, should contact their Toyota dealer to schedule a free repair.

Defect. Toyota is recalling certain model year 2004-2005 Sienna vehicles manufactured January 10, 2003, through August 10, 2005; and model year 2007-2009 Sienna vehicles manufactured February 20, 2007, through December 12, 2008. In the affected vehicles, due to a problem within the shift lock solenoid, there is a possibility that the shift lever could be moved out of Park position without depressing the brake pedal.

Risk. If the shift lever is moved out of the Park position without the brake applied, the transmission will either engage a drive gear or Neutral, increasing the risk of a backover or roll away crash.

Remedy. Toyota will mail interim notifications to owners beginning in late October 2013. When parts are available, owners will be sent a second notice and dealers will replace the shift lock solenoid, free of charge. Owners may contact Toyota at 1-800-331-4331.

THE AMOUNT OF ADHESIVE AGENT APPLIED BETWEEN THE OUTER RING AND THE TORSIONAL RUBBER DAMPER (INNER RING) IN THE CRANKSHAFT PULLEY MAY BE INADEQUATE. IF THE ADHESIVE IS INSUFFICIENT, THERE IS A POSSIBILITY THAT THE OUTER RING MAY BECOME MISALIGNED AND IT MAY NOT PROPERLY ROTATE WITH THE INNER RING, CAUSING NOISE AND/OR ILLUMINATION OF THE BATTERY DISCHARGE INDICATOR LIGHT.

Risk. IN SOME CASES, THE BELT FOR THE POWER STEERING PUMP MAY BECOME DETACHED FROM THE PULLEY WHICH COULD RESULT IN A LOSS OF POWER STEERING AND A SUDDEN INCREASE IN STEERING EFFORT, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

Remedy. TOYOTA WILL NOTIFY OWNERS, AND DEALERS WILL CHECK THE CRANKSHAFT PULLEY TO IDENTIFY WHETHER IT WAS PRODUCED BY THE U.S. SUPPLIER. IF SO, THE DEALER WILL REPLACE THE PULLEY WITH A NEW ONE AT NO CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING EARLY JANUARY 2012. OWNERS MAY CONTACT TOYOTA AT 1-800-331-4331.

Risk. THE CABLE MAY BREAK DUE TO EXCESSIVE CORROSION AND THE SPARE TIRE MAY SEPARATE FROM THE VEHICLE, POSSIBLY RESULTING IN A VEHICLE CRASH.

Remedy. TOYOTA WILL NOTIFY OWNERS WITH AN INTERIM LETTER INITIALLY INSTRUCTING THEM TO BRING THEIR VEHICLE TO AUTHORIZED DEALERS TO INSPECT FOR CORROSION. Defect. SOUTHEAST TOYOTA IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2005-2011 PASSENGER VEHICLES FOR FAILING TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 110, "TIRE SELECTION AND RIMS." THESE VEHICLES WERE SOLD WITHOUT THE REQUISITE LOAD CARRYING CAPACITY MODIFICATION LABELS.

Risk. A DRIVER MAY OVERLOAD A VEHICLE WHICH MAY INCREASE THE RISK OF A CRASH.

Defect. TOYOTA IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2006 THROUGH 2009 SIENNA AND 2009 LEXUS GX PASSENGER VEHICLES. THE VEHICLE CAPACITY WEIGHT ON THE TIRE AND LOADING INFORMATION LABEL AND THE GVWR ON THE CERTIFICATION LABEL IS INSUFFICIENT FOR CERTAIN VEHICLES. SOME VEHICLES WERE ACCESSORIZED THROUGH VEHICLE PROCESSING CENTERS AND HAD ACCESSORIES INSTALLED THAT CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO EXCEED THE GVWR VALUE. THESE VEHICLES FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO 110, "TIRE SELECTION AND RIMS," AND 49 CFR PART 567.

Risk. THE GVWR IS INSUFFICIENT FOR THE LOAD CARRYING CAPACITY OF THE VEHICLES.

Remedy. TOYOTA WILL NOTIFY OWNERS INSTRUCTING THEM TO RETURN THEIR VEHICLE TO A TOYOTA OR LEXUS DEALER FOR AN EXCHANGE OF THE CERTIFICATION LABEL AND THE TIRE AND LOADING INFORMATION LABEL, AN INSTALLATION OF THE LOAD CARRYING CAPACITY MODIFICATION LABEL, IF NECESSARY, AND A CORRECTION TO THE OWNER'S MANUAL. Defect. TOYOTA IS CONDUCTING A SAFETY IMPROVEMENT CAMPAIGN INVOLVING 26,501 EARLY 2004 MY SIENNA VEHICLES. IN THE EVENT THE RETENTION CLIP USED TO SECURE THE FLOOR CARPET COVER IS MISSING, THE COVER CAN INTERFERE WITH THE OPERATION OF THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL IF THE ACCELERATION PEDAL IS DEPRESSED TO NEARLY THE FULL THROTTLE POSITION.

Risk. IF THIS OCCURS, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL CAN BECOME STUCK WHICH COULD RESULT IN A VEHICLE CRASH.

Remedy. DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE RETENTION CLIP AND FLOOR CARPET COVER AT NO CHARGE. THE CAMPAIGN BEGAN ON JANUARY 26, 2009. OWNER NOTIFICATION IS EXPECTED TO BE COMPLETED BY EARLY APRIL 2009. OWNERS MAY CONTACT TOYOTA AT 1-888-270-9371, IF THEY HAVE ANY FURTHER QUESTIONS.

Defect. TOYOTA IS CONDUCTING A SAFETY IMPROVEMENT CAMPAIGN INVOLVING 196,222 MY 2004-2006 TOYOTA SIENNA VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH POWER REAR LIFTGATE STRUTS. THE GAS STRUTS USED TO HELP LIFT AND SUPPORT THE REAR POWER LIFTGATE COULD WEAR OUT SOONER THAN EXPECTED. AS THE GAS STRUTS DETERIORATE, THE PERFORMANCE OF THE LIFTGATE WILL BEGIN TO DEGRADE AND THE POWER REAR LIFTGATE WILL OPERATE MORE SLOWLY THAN WHEN THE GAS STRUTS WERE NEW.

Risk. IF NOT REPAIRED, THE GAS STRUTS MAY NOT BE ABLE TO SUPPORT THE WEIGHT OF THE LIFTGATE WHEN IT IS OPEN EVENTUALLY, THE GAS STRUTS COULD DETERIORATE TO THE POINT THAT THE LIFTGATE WILL FALL ABOUT TEN INCHES AFTER IT REACHES THE FULLY OPEN POSITION, AT WHICH POINT THE POWER MOTOR WILL ENGAGE AND POWER THE LIFTGATE TO THE FULLY CLOSED POSITION. THIS CONDITION MAY CAUSE INJURY TO A PERSON WHO IS STRUCK BY THE LIFTGATE WHEN IT FALLS OR WHEN IT IS CLOSING.

Remedy. DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE GAS STRUTS WITH NEWLY DESIGNED GAS STRUTS THAT HAVE A LONGER SERVICE LIFE. THE CAMPAIGN BEGAN ON AUGUST 8, 2008, AND WILL BE MAILED IN THREE PHASES ENDING IN LATE DECEMBER 2008. OWNERS MAY CONTACT TOYOTA AT 1-888-270-9371.

Defect. ON CERTAIN MINI VANS, IN THE MIDDLE ROW SEATING POSITION, THE SHOULDER PORTION OF THE SEAT BELT MAY BIND IN THE BEZEL TRIM PIECE. THE AFFECTED SEAT BELT BEZEL IS LOCATED ON THE SHOULDER PORTION OF THE SEAT IN THE RIGHT SIDE SEAT OF THE SEVEN PASSENGER MODELS AND THE CENTER SEATING POSITION IN THE EIGHT PASSENGER MODELS.

Risk. IF THE SEAT BELT BINDS IN THE BEZEL, THAT EXTRA WEBBING MAY EXIST IN THE SEAT BELT WHICH COULD RESULT IN AN IMPROPERLY FITTED SEAT BELT ON A PASSENGER. IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH, A SEAT OCCUPANT MAY NOT BE PROPERLY RESTRAINED INCREASING THE RISK OF PERSONAL INJURY.

Defect. ON CERTAIN SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES, A PART OF THE FUEL TANK MAY BECOME DAMAGED WHEN CRASHED IN THE INSURANCE INSTITUTE FOR HIGHWAY SAFETY'S (IIHS) 40 MPH FRONTAL OFFSET CRASH TEST CONDITIONS, DUE TO THE SEVERE IMPACT FORCES GENERATED.

Risk. IF THE FUEL TANK BECOMES DAMAGED AND FUEL LEAKAGE OCCURS, A FIRE MAY RESULT IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE.

The contact's mother owns a 2004 Toyota Sienna. While the contact's mother was driving at an undisclosed speed, several unknown warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that the warning lights illuminated on and off for days and months. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where DTC: P2241 was retrieved. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact was advised to take the vehicle to the dealer. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the failure code was confirmed. The contact was informed that the oxygen sensors needed to be replaced. In addition, the contact was informed that a TSB for the ECM software update needed to be performed. The contact stated that the vehicle was not repaired because the ECM software update was performed, and the ECM software update damaged the ECM. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 150,132.

Shifter not shifting into park even when in park causing it to roll even when you think it’s in park

The contact owns a 2004 Toyota Sienna. The contact stated that while the liftgate door was opened, the door had erroneously closed and failed to remain opened. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who diagnosed that the rear hatch door struts were faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact was informed that the VIN was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 08V244000 (STRUCTURE); but parts were on back order. The contact stated that the vehicle had experienced the failure listed in the recall. The failure mileage was 150,000.

The Traction Control System commonly malfunctions while making turns on curving road sections. I will lose power through turns as the TCS light blinks on my dashboard and makes a beeping sound. On some occasions the brakes will automatically engage in the tire that the car perceives as experiencing slippage. This problem is continuously worsening and commonly endangers me and my passengers, as the car engages brakes or cuts power to the engine at unexpected and in opportune times.

Vehicle often applies brakes on its own . At first it was only in turns . However now it does it when driving straight on the the freeway or just down the street at 45mph. I have fixed my alignment ,new tires, all of the front suspension and nothing prevents the car from trying to brake for me. it is a safety feature that is not safe at all. a car slamming on your brakes at any speed is dangerous in addition to that it seems to cut off your fuel , leaving you unable to accelerate until its done beeping which can take a long time. the vsc , chenk engine and trac off flash there is no crash to report I have been lucky so far

While driving typically around 35 mph and either left or right turn the vehicle traction control engages and the van brakes and steering is affected. The roads have always been dry and in each instance the speed of the van was at or below the speed limit - traction was never lost and yet the traction control engaged as if we were in a skid. This occurred at least 12 times while driving to and from a day trip in the mountains (windy road). It has also happened multiple times at around 50 mph while turning left on a nearby flat freeway. An independent service shop has not been able to replicate the problem. The safety of the driver and passengers were at risk when it occurred on the freeway as a driver behind us got close to rear ending the van while it was in its brake mode.

Was driving on highway at 60-65 mph. The car continued to accelerate. Pressed on brake and wasn't slowing the vehicle. The driver was weaving in and out of cars as the van started to creek up to 92 mph. The driver and passengers thought they were going to crash and possible die. The driver tried the brake multiple times and nothing. The driver said the accelerator pedal wasn't pressed all the way down to the floor. It was half way and driver had to go down and pull up on the pedal while driving. The van then started to slow and driver was able to pull over to have the van evaluated . The throttle body was reached and cleaned of carbon because it said that this may have been part of the issue. Never has this van taken off like this. The throttle body cable wasnt loose or disconnected either. So far we havent been able to recreate but 3 people could have been killed.

The contact owns a 2004 Toyota Sienna. The contact stated that while driving approximately 65 MPH the vehicle suddenly experienced unintended acceleration and the speed of the vehicle increased to over 90 MPH. During the failure, the braking system had failed and would not stop the vehicle while pressing the brake pedal. The front passenger was able to view the fuel pedal was stuck to the floor and was able to physically pull the fuel pedal up from the stuck position and the vehicle's speed was reduced. The incident lasted for approximately 10 minutes. During the incident, the police were on the scene. A police report was later filed at the scene and the vehicle was towed to the local dealer. The contact was informed by the dealer that the failure was due to a missing fuel pedal pen. No further information was available. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. Driving on dry roads at speed not exceeding 35 mph, the traction control system activates. It has happened on slight curves to the right. The traction control symbol lights up, a beeping sound occurs and it feels like the vehicle is braking. It has happened now on several occasions.

The trac control is activated while the car is driving variable speed and brake the car and and the driver loose control of acceleration.

The slip indicator light and alarm comes on sporadically, engaging the ABS suddenly and unexpectedly, when we are on completely dry roads. Happens while driving 40-80 mph. And doesn’t matter if I’m going straight or turning.

The contact owns a 2004 Toyota Sienna. The contact stated while the vehicle was parked, the tailgate inadvertently opened, then closed independently. There was no warning light illuminated. Had I been traveling in the left hand lane, I could have been forced into the right hand lane causing a collusion with another vehicle. Also occurred at lower speed(30 mph on a windy road) causing the same issue as described above, almost causing the vehicle to leave the paved surface. - Mechanic was able to duplicate the issue - Mechanic diagnosed intermittent traction control activation, scanned computer for codes. Yaw rate/steering angle correlation causing false activation ABS/traction. Replaced hub bearing and spindle. Four wheel alignment, including check castor, camber and adjust toe. Performed zero point calibration and reset ABS memory. - Traction control lights up briefly

About a year ago the Vehicle Stability Control warning light along with an audible alarm started coming on intermittently while turning on highways going uphill or downhill in dry weather and with no risk of any tire slipping. At first this only happened at higher speeds 65+mph. Over time, it has occurred more and more frequently and can occur at speeds down to 25 mph. At times, the Anti-lock Braking System is also activated resulting in jerky braking and loss of throttle. When people have been following me too closely, this has almost caused accidents. When these symptoms occur, it is always on a curve (of any degree, even slight curves) and while driving at least 25 mph, and even happens on flat turns now. The weather has always been dry with no risk of tire slippage.

The failing component is the VSC/ABS system. Driver's side seat belt buckle stopped locking in seat belt. Buckle unit then came apart. I called toyota; was informed that there was a recall on this matter. I was told that I was 2 years past the scope of the recall. I informed them I never received a notice of recall so how would I be aware of problem until it occurred. Spoke to supervisor was told I was no longer covered under recall. Went to 2 mechanics and was unable to obtain needed part. I feel that for this safety item there should be no time limit on a recall and I felt Toyotas help in remeding the situation was poor especially as they tout their vehicles safety.

Sometimes when I take turns in my Sienna, the VSC starts going off and braking individual wheels without my control. This happens unexpectedly on highway bends at speeds of 60+ mph and it is difficult to control the car and keep from swerving into another lane. If the roads were icy when this happens, it would probably cause a dangerous accident. Toyota VSC and ABS engaging and activating for no reason on dry pavement causing loss of proper control of the vehicle. The have been multiple occurrences on dry pavement between 30 and 65 mikes per hour. The car pulls to one side as the computer takes control of the car end engages the brakes suddenly for no reason. VSC Skid light goes on on the dash and there is a beeping sound while this happens. Very dangerous. Toyota USA notified and assigned case number 220201001364. They refuse to take any responsibility for this dangerous failure.

While driving on dry freeway or other stable road conditions, the Electronic Stability Control kicks in, braked hard, causing the van to swerve, and the lights on the dash started flashing, accompanied by a loud beeping. This has happened multiple times now. There is no reason for this to be occurring. It is involuntary, sudden, and random. If someone were close behind me, they could rear-end the vehicle. It also sometimes pulls the steering so hard that it swerves into the other lane. This is a serious safety issue that Toyota needs to deal with.

P225/60R17 98T: Tires create vibrations in the steering column. One tire in particular creates severe vibrations that mechanic states could lead to problems with the steering components. I had the control arms replaced, then one of the bolts came out after a few thousand miles. I had that bolt replaced and the problem started happening intermittently after that. Everything will be functioning fine and then the speed of my vehicle is inhibited and it is hard to accelerate. It is very difficult to get from 40 MPH up to 50 MPH. On slight curves, not always, it will beep and the slip indicator light comes on and will apply the brakes on what feels like one side. This has happened at 35-60 MPH. The slip indicator will beep sometimes until I decrease my speed to under 25 MPH. I took it into a reputable tire and front end shop and they replaced a wheel bearing with sensor, and 2 front tires. The problem happened again within 5 miles and the shop said I need to take it to Toyota dealer to have it the steering angle sensors recalibrated. The Toyota dealership said that this is something that the vehicle does itself. They inspected it and took it for a test drive and said nothing is wrong. The problem happened again within a few miles of leaving the dealership. I have read countless forums of people experiencing the same thing in their Toyota Sienna and having the dealership telling them there is not a problem. I have also found that the solution could very well be worn rack and pinion bushings that are creating the play that are triggering the sensors. I don't think they gave it a proper inspection. While driving at approximately 30 to 50 MPH, on dry and smooth pavement, usually going on or off ramp to the left, the skid control engaged and warning sound came on, automatic brake takes over and start braking the van uncontrollably, pulling the vehicle to the right and nearly causing accidents.

Numerous times (too many to say), the traction control indicator sensor comes on & I am unable to control the car. Typically it lasts for 2-3 minutes and turns off. It does not depend on road conditions, weather, and or speed. I have taken the car to the repair shop and they have not been able to capture anything on the engine diagnostic system. No codes were found for them to troubleshoot this issue. I've seen this problem being reported on several posts. Yet the NHSTA has done NOTHING!! TOYOTA NEEDS TO BE HELD LIABLE FOR THIS ISSUE. WAKE UP NHSTA. MAKE OUR TAX DOLLARS WORK!!! This poses a huge risk to my family and other drivers, not to mention impact on budget.

Issue with traction (maybe called a VSC system-stability), when going up and down hills with slight curves, the wheels lock up and the vehicle slows down. Even when exiting a freeway ramp that is at a slight decline and curve. This started happening about 3 1/2 years ago, just once in a great blue moon. It started happening more frequently in the past year. Neither Carson or South Bay Toyota dealership could tell us why and could not find anything wrong after they inspected it. We took it to an independent service location and they could not find out why either. We looked it up online and apparently many Toyota Sienna owners are happing the same issue and no resolution. The VSC Trac light comes on when it happens and they goes away. It does not happen all the time. Safety issue for us, we can not really control the van when the wheels lock up and safety issues for all (us and others around us) is the fact that the van slows down and wheels lock up, which could cause someone to hit us.

THE LIFTGATE SUPPORT CYLINDERS HAD PREVIOUSLY BEEN REPLACED BY TOYOTA UNDER RECALL. WE PURCHASED TWO NEW SUPPORT CYLINDERS, TOYOTA PART #68905-AE022'SUPPORT CYLINDER' FROM CAMELBACK TOYOTA IN PHOENIX, AZ, D/B/A TOYOTA PARTS FACTORY, BY MAIL, SHIPPED 11/19/19. I INSTALLED BOTH OF THE NEW SUPPORT CYLINDERS WITHIN A COUPLE OF WEEKS. NOTE THAT BOTH OF THE OLD SUPPORT CYLINDERS WERE REPLACED WITH NEW TOYOTA PARTS, NOT JUST THE ONE WHICH HAD FAILED. HOWEVER, WITH THE NEW SUPPORT CYLINDERS, WHEN THE WEATHER GETS COOL (BELOW 50 F) AND THE LIFTGATE IS OPENED USING THE ELECTRIC OPENER, THE LIFTGATE GETS PART WAY UP AND REVERSES, COMING DOWN UNEXPECTEDLY. ABS SOME TIMES ACTIVATES WHEN DRIVING A LIGHT CURVE ROAD AT SPEED AROUND 30-40 MPH. USUALLY A STEERING WHEEL IS ABOUT 2 OR 10 O'CLOCK POSITIONS. AT THE TIME VSC INDICATOR FLASHES AND WARNING ALARM GOES OFF. THIS CAUSES A SUDDEN BREAKING AND IT BECOMES VERY DIFFICULT TO CONTROL THE CAR.

THE VSC SYSTEM IS ENABLING WHILE DRIVING AND MAKING A TURN ON AN OTHERWISE NORMAL ROAD. WHEN IT ENABLES, IT APPLIES THE BRAKE AND SOUNDS A REPEATING ALARM. THE SYSTEM APPLIES THE BRAKE WHILE I AM ATTEMPTING TO MAKE A TURN, AND THIS MAKES ME FEEL UNSAFE, AS IF I HAVE TEMPORARILY LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE WHILE MAKING AN OTHERWISE BENIGN MANEUVER. THE REPEATING ALARM DOES NOT TURN OFF UNTIL I HAVE TURNED THE WHEEL TO THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION FROM THE INITIAL TURN ANGLE. THIS MEANS IF THE TURN IS SLOW, THE ALARM WILL SOUND FOR THE ENTIRE DISTANCE OF THE TURN.

DASHBOARD OF CAR, INCLUDING THE AREA OVER THE FRONT SEAT PASSENGER AIRBAG IS FULL OF CRACKS. IN THE EVENT OF A FRONT END COLLISION AND AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT THERE COULD BE SHARP SHARDS OF PLASTIC THRUST AT FRONT SEAT PASSENGER.

THIS VEHICLE HAS A TRACTION CONTROL FEATURE WHICH HELPS KEEP IT FROM SKIDDING OUT OF CONTROL IN ICY, WET, OR OTHERWISE UNSTABLE CONDITIONS. IT CAN HELP AN OUT OF CONTROL VEHICLE GET BACK INTO CONTROL BY DOING A VARIETY OF THINGS, INCLUDING BRAKING. PREVIOUSLY THIS FEATURE HAD ONLY KICKED ON WHEN I WOULD SLIDE ON THE SNOW DURING A LOW SPEED TURN AND WOULD SLIDE IN THE SNOW (WHICH WAS GOOD). BUT OVER THE PAST FEW MONTHS, THERE HAVE BEEN TWO TIMES THAT THIS FEATURE HAS KICKED ON AT HIGH SPEEDS (ONCE AT 40MPH AND ONCE AT 65MPH) ON DRY ROADS, BOTH WHILE TURNING AROUND A CURVE. SUDDENLY THE BRAKING SYSTEM IS APPLIED WITHOUT ANY WARNING AND THE VEHICLE SWERVES SLIGHTLY AND DOES WHAT IT WANTS FOR A FEW SECONDS. THEN IT STOPS. NOW THE MELTING DASHBOARDS ARE CREATING SERIOUS DRIVING HAZARD WHEN DRIVING INTO SUN BECAUSE THE REFLECTION IS BLOCKING THE DRIVER'S VIEW. THEREFORE, IT CALLS FOR A RECALL SINCE DRIVING HAZARDS DO NOT HAVE EXPIRATION DATES.

THE STICKINESS ATTRACTS DUST, HAIR AND OTHER SMALL PARTICLES AND CANNOT BE WIPED OFF. THE WHITE POWDERY GROWTH ALSO RAISES A CONCERN DUE TO TOXICITY. I HAVE COMPLAINED TO OUR LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER, AS WELL AS TOYOTA HEADQUARTERS AT 800-331-4331, BUT HAVE BEEN TOLD THE RECALL TIME FRAME EXPIRED ON 5/31/17 AND THERE IS NOTHING TO BE DONE. THEY SAY LETTERS WERE SENT, WHICH MY MOTHER NEVER RECEIVED.THE DASHBOARD HAS PROGRESSIVELY GOTTEN WORSE IN THE LAST 3 YEARS. PLEASE REFER TO WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT PROGRAM ZE6 AND POL14-11.

WHILE DRIVING AT OR BELOW THE SPEED LIMIT, UNDER DRY CONDITIONS, ON CURVY ROADS, THE VSC DASH LIGHT COMES ON AND ENGAGES WITH BEEPING AND AUTOMATIC BRAKING. THE RAPID DECELERATION AND SKIDDING, AS THE TIRES LOCK-UP, MAKES CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE DIFFICULT AND CARS FOLLOWING MUST PANIC BRAKE TO AVOID REAR-ENDING MY VEHICLE. INCREASING OCCURRENCES OVER THE PAST YEAR.

BOTH POWER SLIDING DOORS FREEZE SHUT ANY TIME THERE ARE FREEZING TEMPERATURES AND ANY MOISTURE, AND CANNOT BE OPENED EITHER WITH POWER OR MANUALLY. ATTEMPTING TO OPEN A DOOR WILL ONLY OPEN IT 1/4", SUFFICIENT TO ACTIVATE THE DOME LAMPS, BUT THEN WILL NOT CLOSE. AFTER DRIVING AND WARMING UP, THE DOOR MAY RANDOMLY OPEN AT ANY TIME, PRESENTING A SAFETY HAZARD.

UNINTENDED ACCELERATION PROBLEM. TWO EPISODES, MONTHS APART, BOTH AT VERY LOW SPEED. WAS STOPPED BEHIND TWO CARS. TWO CARS IN FRONT STARTED UP TO GO THROUGH INTERSECTION. I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE AND MOVED IT TO THE GAS PEDAL. CAR STARTED UP NORMALLY. THEN A CHILD PUSHED TO CROSSWALK SIGNAL WHICH STARTED TO FLASH. I MOVED MY FOOT TO THE BRAKE PEDAL, AND THE CAR STARTED SLOWING DOWN NORMALLY, BUT THEN THE CAR SUDDENLY LURCHED FORWARD. BOTH I AND THE PASSENGER THOUGHT WE HAD BEEN REAR-ENDED (BUT THERE WAS NO CAR BEHIND). IT WAS A SIMILAR FEELING TO WHEN THE CRUISE CONTROL KICKS IN TO ACCELERATE, BUT NO CRUISE CONTROL HAD BEEN ACTIVATED. I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE AND SLAMMED IT BACK ON THE BRAKE, AND THE CAR STOPPED. THE PREVIOUS EPISODE HAD A SIMILAR SERIES OF EVENTS.

TL* THE CONTACT'S MOTHER OWNS A 2004 TOYOTA SIENNA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE OF THE DASHBOARD HAD A DEEP CRACK. THE CONTACT WAS UNAWARE IF A WARNING INDICATOR WAS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO VICTORY TOYOTA (LOCATED AT 5 HEITZINGER PLAZA, SEASIDE, CA 93955, (831) 393-3020) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE DASHBOARD NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 234,000.

1) SEATBELT TWISTS AND GETS JAMMED IN THE GUIDE NEAR THE RETRACTOR. SEAT BELT PULLS OUT, BUT THEN WILL NOT RETRACT AS IT IS WEDGED IN THE GUIDE.THIS HAS HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIMES, BUT NOW IT IS QUITE WEDGED. AND UNUSABLE AT THE MOMENT. 2) CABLE THAT PULLS THE SIDE DOOR OPEN AND CLOSED HAS RUSTED AND BROKEN. THIS WAS SUBJECT TO A TOYOTA VOLUNTARY SERVICE CAMPAIGN, BUT MY PROBLEM STARTED AFTER THE EXPIRATION OF THE SERVICE CAMPAIGN.
