I was driving north/east on [XXX] just outside of [XXX]. After accelerating to give another driver room to move out of his lane that was ending, I lost propulsion/power. The Sierra went into Neutral and told me something like "Press Start to resume". I had to immediately get off the interstate as I was rapidly losing speed. I was able to pull over to the shoulder of the interstate on the right, just before exit 2. After getting the vehicle parked, I was never able to restart the vehicle. The motor would not turn over. The display screens kept cycling between a blank display and a display that looked like the vehicle was on but the engine never turned on. When I tried to start the car, I got a message of "conditions not correct for shift". We could not even get the vehicle into Neutral. I used OnStar to get State Patrol to show up and put lights behind us for safety. OnStar should have a recording of this call. This was on Saturday XXX in the ballpark of 2:30 pm central time. I would imagine the officer also filed a report, but I did not get it. The vehicle was towed to Billion GMC in Iowa City. Billion GMC said their initial suspicion is the 6.2L motor failed / locked up on us as this is know issue that is subject of a class action lawsuit. These vehicles ARE NOT SAFE to be on the highway, someone is going to get seriously injured, please do everything you can to get these 6.2L engines off the road before someone dies. The molding cover for the hood fell off by Hwy speed, and recently we I went to oil change after I get the car the technician said the bolt for tie the oil thing is not correct and it’s not for this car and this was the reason for leaking and need to replace with right one.
Transmission shift hard and slipping. When step on gas to go faster transmission shifts really hard like going drop on ground. Sometimes wont shift at all only goes up to 69 till left off gas and then transmission will shift. Start happening with about 10000 miles on truck and GMC said this is normal. Now need a torque converter and shift module in it.
On [XXX] I was driving my 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 Vin # [XXX] on a major highway in Houston when without warning the engine shut off, stranding me in the middle of busy traffic. I was able to get to the shoulder and restart the truck, but no warning lights came on so I continued on my drive when approximately 20 minutes later, while still on a busy freeway, the engine shut off again. I was able to restart the truck and within another 15 minutes the check engine light appeared, the engine lost power and started making a loud rattling noise. Roughly 2 minutes later, as I was attempting to pull over to the shoulder and safety, the truck shut off and would not restart. This was the 3rd time for it to stall out on a busy freeway which was very dangerous for myself and the other drivers. I contacted the local Chevy dealership and they sent a tow truck out to tow the truck back to their dealership service center. I was later contacted by a service advisor that said they found a code P0016. He informed me that the engine would need to be replaced. As of today 8/11/26, they are still waiting on backordered parts to arrive before they can even start on any repairs. Was traveling home and started losing power going up a hill on XXX. The truck was surging, the check engine light came on and an audible warning of no (low?) oil pressure. The truck shut off on a busy interstate highway and barely got onto the shoulder. The tow truck driver had to lay on the ground with part of his body in the lane of travel to place "skids" under the rear tires because there is no way to place this vehicle in neutral for a tow without a special GM tool. When I contacted Harry Robinson GMC service center in [XXX], they told me that it was no longer a safety recall because the truck had passed diagnostics and new, high viscosity oil was put in the truck XXX. The GMC app says code P0016 which is the dreaded 6.2L camshaft to crankshaft alignment that accompanies engine component failure. Lifter failure at 20000 miles
Ever since I bought this truck new, I noticed a lot of metal shavings and debris in the oil filter every single time I changed the oil. I took it to the dealership multiple times to have this looked into before the engine recall came out. The dealership took pictures of the metal and sent them to a General Motors engineer, but the engineer just told them it was "normal." Later on, the truck went in for the official recall inspection, passed the PICO test, and nothing was fixed. Then on August 4, 2026, I was driving on a crowded expressway right through a construction zone with absolutely no shoulder to pull over on. Out of nowhere, the truck started hesitating badly, lost power, and the engine started making a really loud knocking noise. It was barely running, and it was incredibly dangerous because there was nowhere to go and traffic was heavy. Luckily, I was able to limp the truck along just far enough to clear the construction zone and pull over safely.

The contact owns a 2024 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the engine seized, and the transmission independently shifted into park(P). The failure had occurred while driving on a busy highway at highway speeds. The contact's minor children were occupants inside the vehicle during the failure. The vehicle stalled in the middle of the highway. No warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that while attempting to restart the vehicle, the vehicle failed to start. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed with catastrophic engine failure. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure reoccurred eight months later. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed with catastrophic engine failure a second time. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was in the process of being repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 39,000.
While driving on XXX I received a message on the dash: service transmission, will not be able to shift soon. I went to the nearest GMC service center, located in [XXX]. Their diagnostics indicated that the Gear Shift Control Module needed to be replaced with new PN 86421783. That part was not available until XXX, but old PN 86274946 was available at a few dealersships, and it acould possibly be ordered and arrive sooner than XXX. I was told that driving the truck would be okay, but the part should be replaced as soon as possible. I live over an hour's drive from [XXX], and with the assurance that driving the GMC was okay, I chose to have the part shipped to and replaced at the dealership in [XXX], the nearest one to [XXX]. I drove back to [XXX], stopping at the Waldoboro dealership to make an appointment for their inspection of my truck, their troubleshooting the problem, and ordering the necessary parts to repair the transmission. When the part number went into their ordering system, the dealership was advised that no parts were available and no availability date was known. I contacted GMC Customer Assistance to express my concern and request assistance in locating the parts, but she was also unable to locate the parts or speed their availability. Again, on the assurance that the truck was okay to drive, on XXX I drove to my storage units near [XXX], and when I tried to leave and shifted into reverse the truck would not move. AAA towed me to the dealership in Waldoboro, and
Unknown. Went in to get inspection for the recall on the motor and it failed the test so motor was replaced. Now the I've hade the motor for 9 moths started hearing knocking in the motor and losing power.
The engine (6.2L V8) in my 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4 failed at approximately 40,750 miles. I began hearing a ticking noise coming from the engine, and the dealership subsequently diagnosed the cause as damaged bearings that in turn damaged the crankshaft, requiring a full engine replacement. Notably, this vehicle was not included in the related recall covering this engine defect, despite exhibiting the same failure. The original failed engine may be available for inspection upon request but I would need to confirm with the dealership whether it was retained or already returned to GM under warranty. This defect creates a serious safety risk because a damaged crankshaft and bearings can cause the engine to lose power or shut off without warning while driving. An unexpected loss of engine power at highway speed or in traffic could result in loss of vehicle control, reduced ability to accelerate out of a hazard, and increased risk of a collision to myself and to other drivers on the road. The failure gave no advance warning, so there was no opportunity to pull over safely before the issue became apparent. The fact that this failure occurred outside the scope of the existing recall suggests other vehicles with the same defect may be similarly at risk without notice. The dealership diagnosed damaged bearings and a damaged crankshaft as the cause of the ticking noise and performed a full engine replacement under warranty, confirming the failure. The dealership diagnosed the failure a
I was driving on the highway when the vehicle started to make clinking noises. The vehicle started to lose power as I accelerated it would feel like something was pulling me in the opposite direction and the knocking noise would get louder. Ultimately, I had the vehicle towed to a dealership. This vehicle passed the L87 recall not too long ago, and the vehicle is barely used.
While driving at highway speed in normal traffic, the upper front grill deflector detached from the vehicle and struck the windshield, cracking the windshield. This appears consistent with the defect that is the subject of Safety Recall N24290120.
2024 GMC Sierra 1500 6.2 v8 had a full engine seizure while driving on the freeway. All prior recall actions had already been met (scoped and upgraded oil), within 60 days of dealership review the engine stopped working. Recall 25V-274 L87 Engine Loss of Propulsion. After a 5 hour event on the side of the road AAA towed the vehicle to the dealership where I was told it would be many months before this is returned. It took many weeks for GM to just review and approve any next service (engine needs). At this point I'm told there are 181 people also in line for an engine and they can't see where I might be in that line. So we wait.
On XXX I started on a 3 hour trip with my daughter in the truck. My vehicle lost power and started knocking in the engine compartment. We were going over a very big Bridge([XXX]) from [XXX] to [XXX]. I had to coast off the highway and made it to a park. Truck would not restart and would not go into neutral. Waited 5 hours for AAA and was drug onto the flat bed truck because it would not go into neutral. It was then towed to the dealership(Union Park GMC) in [XXX], where they had to drag it off the flat bed truck. Truck was evaluated and determined by the technicians that it needed a new engine(6.2 L V8). Engine was tested and passed in October 2025. Still waiting on a new engine to be installed(today is XXX). GMC knows there are issues with these engines failing and continue to sell to the consumer. I am currently paying for a truck that I am not able to drive. I was driving at normal highway speed. I exited the highway and started to deceleration for an upcoming traffic light. The engine started making a lot of noise. The 6.2L engine has 31k miles on it. Oil changes have been completed at the dealership where I purchased the sierra Denali. I called the dealership and the service writer could hear the engine noise. He asked if I could get it to the dealership which was about 15 miles away. I tried but the truck stopped about 7 miles from the dealership. They told me to call the onstar service and get a tow. The dealership said it will take about six weeks to get a new engine. In the meantime I'm making payments on an eighty thousand dollar vehicle I can't use. Someone needs to hold GM accountable for the lack of urgency in getting this problem fixed!
The vehicle suffers from a persistent transmission defect including shuttering bucking slipping torque converter failure valve body failure twice metal debris improper down shifting chirping noises and related liability and safety issues. The vehicle has undergone multiple unsuccessful repair attempts at authorise GM dealerships. These repairs include torque converter replacement valve body replacement twice solenoid replacement fluid services software updates. The transmission problems have persisted despite these efforts and the vehicle has been out of service for more than 22 business days including a breakdown driving to Florida. I have filed a claim through GM but it seems like it just keeps getting pushed further and further away this is a serious safety issue as I fear for those driving around me and myself that I may cause an accident with the bucking slipping and failure to operate properly on the road.
This vehicle became subject to a manufacturer safety recall requiring complete engine replacement. The engine failure has been confirmed by an authorized GMC dealer, and the vehicle has remained out of service for more than one month while awaiting the recall remedy. The dealer has advised that the repair has been escalated through GM's SPAC (Service Parts Assistance Center) process because a replacement engine is not available. General Motors has also confirmed there is currently no estimated delivery date or estimated completion date for the repair. As a result, the recall remedy is effectively unavailable, and the vehicle remains unusable for an indefinite period. Although a temporary loaner vehicle has been provided, it is not functionally comparable to the recalled vehicle and does not provide the towing capability and utility required for its intended use. The vehicle was inspected by an authorized GMC dealer, who confirmed that engine replacement under the recall is required. The vehicle remains available for inspection. My concern is not only the original safety defect but also the inability to obtain the recall remedy within a reasonable timeframe. There has been no estimate of when replacement engines will become available, leaving the vehicle out of service indefinitely. I am submitting this complaint to document the delay in completing the safety recall and to request that NHTSA review whether the recall remedy is being provided in a timely and effective manner.
My 2024 GMC Sierra Denali Ultimate 1500 experienced a catastrophic powertrain failure that created a serious safety hazard. On XXX, while driving at highway speeds, the truck unexpectedly shifted into neutral, causing an immediate loss of propulsion. During this event, the electrical system was also affected. The battery power dropped, power steering assistance was lost, and due to the electronic push-button start system, the vehicle could not be restarted while in this condition. This placed me and surrounding motorists at significant risk of a crash. I initially brought the vehicle to Point GMC, where I was advised no issue was found. After the problem continued, I returned on XXX and a dealership technician rode with me. During the test drive on [XXX], the truck again shifted into neutral, confirming the defect. The vehicle was then towed to the dealership, where diagnostics revealed DTC P0016. I was informed the engine had seized and required a complete engine replacement. The engine was replaced by an authorized GMC dealership in New Jersey. After only about 2,000 miles, the check engine light returned and the vehicle began experiencing additional electrical issues. This is a Denali Ultimate, the highest trim level, with advanced electronic systems, making these recurring failures especially concerning. To date, the vehicle has been inspected by three authorized GMC dealerships, and I have opened multiple cases with GMC Corporate. Despite repeated repair attempts, the ma
The contact owns a 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 equipped with Maxxis Tires, Tire Line: Bravo HT-750, Tire Size: 255/80/R17, DOT Number: 120NK10015028. The contact stated that after the front driver 's-side tire became flat, the contact discovered that the spare tire originally equipped on the vehicle failed to fit the front wheels but did fit the rear wheels. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, who determined that the spare tire failed to fit the front driver's side wheel due to a factory-installed brake modification, causing the spare to not fit over the front brakes. The dealer replaced the front driver's side tire. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The tire failure mileage was unknown. The vehicle failure mileage was 14,000.
The contact owns a 2024 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving approximately 65–70 MPH, the bumper air deflector, metal tabs, and screws detached and struck the front windshield. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, and the contact was informed that the repair was not covered under recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact referenced an unknown recall; however, the VIN was not associated with a recall related to the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and a case was filed. Additionally, the contact was informed that the repair was not covered under warranty or recall. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000.
The contact owns a 2024 GMC Sierra 1500. While shifted in reverse, the back over prevention camera intermittently displayed a black screen accompanied by two failing camera symbols. During the most recent failure, the camera displayed a blank image, causing the vehicle to crash into the garage door, causing damage to the garage door. The failure was intermittent. No injuries were reported. A police report was not filed. Medical attention was not needed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
This vehicles top portion of grill trim is starting to come loose, as this is a safety concern while on the highway, I had another vehicle that the trim flew off completely, (same year and model) while i was on the highway. This could hit another vehicle if this happens, or god forbid a person who happens to be on a sidewalk. I looked into this and found that there is a recall for the same issue on 2022 models that has not been extended to the 2024 model (Recall N242490120). This recall should be extended to the 2024 models as this is a huge safety concern.
Upon driving on the highway, I was doing about 73mph, something back flew up and smacked the windshield then the car behind me ran over that piece. After stopping and looking I realized the top trim to the grill flew off. There is no recall for this even though this is a safety concern. If I was near a sidewalk to a motorcycle behind me this could have injured someone severely. Upon research I found that there is a recall for the 2022 model for the same problem (Recall N242490120), this needs to be extended tot he 2024 model as I have another truck (same year and model) that is showing signs of the same issue. This is a huge safety concern.
The contact owns a 2024 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated while driving 70 MPH at night, the message “Press Engine Start Button” was displayed, and the vehicle lost power. The vehicle was coasted to an exit ramp. The contact stated that after coming to a complete stop, the vehicle started to operate as intended. The vehicle was serviced under NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V274000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING); but the recall repair failed to fix the vehicle. The contact stated that the failure had occurred after the recall repair was performed. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 24,000.
Issue is with the transmission as it harshly shifts into a low gear when on an incline. This causes me to lock up my breaks as it feels like the truck was rear ended by another vehicle. I’m concerned that this is going to cause an accident. This problem has not been reproduced by the dealer. I’ve taken it to the dealership several times. No warning lamps or messages.
My truck engine has failed due to metal shavings in the oil related to the L87 engine recall, and the failure occurred after GM had replaced the truck’s oil as part of the recall remedy. The recall remedy did not prevent the failure of the engine.

On XXX, while traveling at 75 mph on a major interstate highway, this 2024 GMC Sierra Crew Cab suffered a sudden and catastrophic internal engine seizure, resulting in an immediate and total loss of propulsion. This defect put the safety of all occupants and surrounding motorists at extreme risk, forcing the driver to navigate a completely unpowered, rapidly decelerating vehicle through high-speed traffic to reach the shoulder without the aid of engine power. There were absolutely no warning lamps, error messages, or mechanical symptoms prior to the failure; the engine locked up instantaneously without any advance warning. Following the incident, the vehicle was flatbed-towed to an authorized franchise dealership (Dossett GMC in [XXX]), where it remains un-repaired and is currently available for inspection by the manufacturer or federal investigators upon request. Critically, this vehicle was previously presented to a certified General Motors dealership at 34,766 miles for inspection and service compliance under Federal Safety Recall N252494001 (which covers engine component failure and subsequent loss of propulsion). The vehicle was cleared as passing the manufacturer's inspection protocol at that time. The total engine failure and seizure occurred less than 9,000 miles later at approximately 43,634 miles. The catastrophic field failure of this vehicle demonstrates that the manufacturer's current safety recall inspection and remedy are insufficient to identify or mitigate th
I was driving down the highway when all of a sudden felt a hesitation and then seen message low oil pressure turn off vehicle and was just able to pull of the exit ramp of the highway when the truck had complete loss of power and then Died..called dealer right away and was flat bedded to the dealer..This just happened yesterday (06/08/26)
I was driving down the highway and the top grill trim 84957848 part number, flew off. Hit my windshield. Could’ve caused the small car behind me to blow a tire or damaged their vehicle.
Top grill deflector flew off at highway speeds creating a safety hazard for me and others in the highway. 2022 GMC Sierra with the same part and grill was previously recalled for this identical issue. 2022-2026 models have the same problem and should be included in the recall. Please see Safety Recall N242490120
The screen shakes. Goes black. Zooms in randomly without prompting. Started dialing up people from recent calls. While trying to get the navigation working. I started drifting into oncoming traffic. Fortunately was able to course correct and avoid collision. Buttons are most time not responsive to touch. It is distracting. The system has never fully worked as promised and is a distraction. And as a result a serious safety hazard.
Engine seized at 23,291 miles, approximately 3,661 miles after GM's authorized dealer performed a PicoScope inspection under Recall N252494000 and certified the engine as passing. July 2025 recall attempt was documented as incomplete with no remedy available. November 2025 inspection passed the engine. Engine seized March 2026. New engine installed under Special Coverage N252494003. New drivability concern — hesitation and lurch at low speeds — appeared immediately after the repair.
The vehicle received the official N252494001 recall oil remedy on 06/27/2025 at 15,438 miles (but suffered catastrophic engine failure and loss of propulsion at 33,661 miles on 05/30/2026).
My truck has completely shut down/ loss power on several occasions. Happened when I was l slowing down or completely stopped. Everything goes dark. Had to wait several minutes before truck would start.
Engine failure after passing PICO test. Engine completely locked up on a busy highway without the ability to even put it in neutral. Yes, confirmed by dealer that there were metal shavings in the fluid. Inspected by authorized dealer. No lights came on in the vehicle prior to the engine failure.
Check engine light illuminated with service transmission. The next day transmission started slipping and finally would not engage in reverse. Dealership Has it now and after diagnosis they advised that they had replaced the electronic control module to which, on the test drive, the gauge cluster blacked out and they got more codes. The cpdes that the vehical threw were the transmission valve body needed to be replaced. The truck has 24k miles on it.
Engine failure at 12,000 miles
Upper grille detachment while driving on the interstate at 70 mph at night ,hit the windshield. could not find it.
The front upper grille deflector detached and hit my windshield and bounced off behind me during a drive at normal highway speeds. This created a random flying debris object that appears to have been a problem with the 2022 and later Sierra 1500 models; however, the recall only appears to address the 2022 model. It also appears quite common for the 2024 year model as well. Vehicle has never been in an accident so nothing beyond typical use would have caused damaged to the connections. The plastic connectors appeared to have failed.
Traveling Northbound in the left lane on [XXX] approximately 1 mile prior to the [XXX] exit. I increased my speed to move to the right lane and exit. After moving the the right lane and signaling to exit the highway a notification appeared on the gauge cluster stating to shift to neutral and restart the engine. After coming to a complete stop at the stop light I attempted to restart and nothing happened. I contacted OnStar for roadside assistance to get my truck and trailer towed and was informed they do not cover towing of the trailer. I accepted the tow of the truck and contacted the towing company who charged me $300 to tow my trailer 15 miles home. This happened late morning on Saturday and by Monday evening I was informed my engine seized and GM will be covering a replacement under warranty. My truck is less than two years old with 23K miles. The 6.2L engine was inspected a couple months earlier for the engine recall and was deemed ok. Clearly the inspection process is not very robust. I was told I could be without my truck for 1wk, 2wks, a month, but they are not sure since I’m 4th in line for a new engine and the truck first in line has already been there a month. I was also told GM is showing inventory in Michigan but the engines are not shipping. I’m currently waiting on a loaner vehicle but was told I cannot tow with the loaner vehicle which throws a wrench in my plans. I passed the recall inspection on 12/17/2025 and the higher viscosity oil was put into my vehicle. On 12/25/2025 my vehicle's engine shut off while I was traveling on the highway (I-25). The vehicle went into to neutral and I had to pull over to the side of the highway without power. The vehicle started again and as I was merging onto the highway it shut down again. The truck started again and I was able to drive it home. There were no codes found when I took it in for service on 12/26/2025. On 01/24/2026 I was driving on the highway (US-40) and I had complete engine failure. I had to get my vehicle towed to the service center and a new motor was installed. On March 27th the vehicle's engine shut off again while driving on the highway (US-191). There were no codes or check engine lights on this time either. The service records state that the starter mount stud was loose.
The contact owns a 2024 GMC Sierra. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the low oil warning light illuminated. The contact stated that every 2,300 miles, the oil reservoir was refilled with 2 quarts of oil. In addition, the contact stated the failure occurred after the first oil change was performed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, the contact was informed that the oil usage was normal. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 5,122.
GM 6.2L L87 was recalled. I took the truck in at 32,000 miles. GM dealer perfromed a Pico Test, motor failed. Motor replaced with "NEW" crate motor. I was without a truck or loaner for 3 weeks. Dealer called me when new motor was almost complete. First they said it would be a couple more days because they started the "NEW" motor and it had no oil pressure. They contacted GM Tec and they tested it again, it tested with too-high of oil pressure. GM then instructed them to replace the oil pump on the "NEW" Motor. I got the truck back a week later after being in the shop 3 weeks. I drove a total of 1,200 miles, 400 miles we're highway in one long trip. The balance was local. I went to start the truck one morning after it sat all weekend and the "NEW" motor was knocking like an old diesel. I video'ed it and sent to my service advisior, I was advised to bring it back again. Vehicle has been at dealer now 9 days, dealer took oil sample from "NEW" motor, it was found to have metallic matter in the oil. They contacted GM Tec again, it took GM Tec 3 days to respond, Last Friday GM Tec said pull the oil pan and take pictures. As of the typing of this email I have no loaner because there's a wait list for loaners, GM will only reimburse me $25/day for a rental and a truck rental is $105/day which I refuse to pay for GM's defects out of my pocket.

Burnt engine oil, breakdown of viscosity, low oil warning light prior to required change, and oil consumption. Multiple events and oil changes with same results of oil fluid conditions and consumptions with low-mileage engine and overall vehicle.
I purchased a 2024 GMC SIERRA 1500 Denali Crew Cab Diesel 3.0L After several times bringing the truck to the dealership I purchased from and conduct all service related work. They finally found a crack/whole in the sidewall that was not done by any road hazard to cause damage but looks like a manufacturer defect. This is now not only prominent on one tire but two of the tires. The area is on the covex area of the tire. BRIDGESTONE ALENZA A/S 02 Size 275/50/R22 This is a huge safety concern as a blowout at 65MPH could cause significant harm to not only people in my vehicle but to others. This is an advisement to get the right attention on this before something catastrophic or deadly. With plenty of tread on the tires (6/32), which equated to 50% life on the tire. The dealership is trying to make me pay for a manufacturer defect of $600+ for the two tires.

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
