Defect. General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2024 Chevrolet Silverado HD 2500, 3500, and GMC Sierra HD 2500, 3500 vehicles equipped with power-unlatching tailgates. The tailgate's electronic gate-release switch may short circuit due to water intrusion, which can result in the tailgate inadvertently unlatching while the vehicle is in Park.

Risk. An unlatched tailgate may open and result in a loss of unsecured cargo, creating a road hazard and increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy. Owners are advised to check that the tailgate is closed and latched before driving. Dealers will replace the exterior touchpad switch assemblies, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed December 17, 2024. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. Risk. A steering arm that disconnects may result in a total loss of steering control, increasing the risk of a crash.

The Engine Cooler has a know defect that GM has put out service bulletins for. The engine cooler is cracking, mixing oil and antifreeze that is creating a sludge that runs thru the entire system. GM wants techs to attempt to clean/flush the engine before they approve a new engine to be ordered under warranty. GM is aware of the problem and there should be a recall out on the problem according to the service manager I spoke with at the dealership my truck is at currently. I was told the expected time frame is up to 3 months for the work to be completed, with no loaner available that is equivalent to the vehicle that went to the shop. The recall is necessary because if the engine has a major failure while driving it could cause an accident, if the vehicle is hauling a heavy trailer that could be detrimental because the truck can haul up to 40,000 GCWR.

The infotainment/control module in my 2024 Silverado 3500HD failed unexpectedly while I was traveling cross-country. The module is available for inspection upon request. Prior to the failure, I did not receive any warning lamps or messages. When the system failed, I lost access to multiple camera systems integrated into the vehicle, including backup and visibility-assistance cameras used to aid lane changes, parking, maneuvering, and identifying obstacles around the truck. Due to the size and height of this vehicle, these cameras provide important visibility of areas that are difficult to observe directly, including pedestrians, cyclists, and children who may be below the driver's line of sight. The loss of these camera systems reduced situational awareness and increased the risk of a collision while backing, changing lanes, or operating the vehicle in crowded areas. The failure also disabled navigation, hands-free functions, audio, WiFi connectivity, and access to vehicle settings controlled through the infotainment system. The vehicle was inspected by a Chevrolet dealer in Cape Cod, Massachusetts. The dealer attempted a software reflash to correct the issue; however, the procedure rendered the unit completely inoperable. The dealer confirmed that the module required replacement and quoted an estimated repair cost of approximately $1,500. Moved the truck on to the lawn and put it in park turned truck off. got out of the truck and went into the garage and 5 min later came out and saw the truck started to roll and went 50 ft and hit a tree.

Transmission has shifting issues (hard shifts) . Vehicle is available for inspection upon request. Safety could be an issue if the transmission fails while driving that could cause harm to the vehicle driver and put others at risk. Vehicle is scheduled for inspection however the dealer is very backlogged.

I was driving down the XXX Expressway Sunday, XXX, with my children in my vehicle. This is a very heavily traveled highway in [XXX] with heavy traffic. My 2024 Chevy Silverado 3500 Diesel HD Truck with 25,500 miles suddenly started throwing multiple codes, lost power, and steering. Fortunately I was able to "roll into" the emergency lane while muscling the steering in that direction and engaged the emergency brake. My other son was following shortly behind me in his vehicle and pulled over to assist us about 30 mins after my truck was sitting stalled in the HWY. He parked his truck behind mine, put on his hazards, and we were transferring gear from my truck to his truck. At this point my 2024 Chevy HD Silverado Diesel started rolling back on it's own and nearly crushed my son's friend. The parking break was on and it suddenly released on it's own. It took 3 grown men to stop it from crushing my son's friend. The force was so strong that when he lifted his hand to try to stop the truck from rolling, it broke the right rear tail light. He could have been crushed between our two trucks from this situation. I have never been notified by GM of any recalls, however, the truck had to be towed to Ferman Cheverlotte service on Adamo Dr, Tampa Fl and is currently sitting on their lot. Trailer brakes and lights come and go. I start with having everything then loose brakes and lights when I’m driving. This is apparently a known issue that they have a fix for but I have never received anything about a recall.

REAR WHEEL LOCKUP: While driving down the highway pulling a loaded trailer the rear wheels locked up, GM has an open recall on 2020-2022 models but denies its an issue with the 2024 model, my dealership pushed a “software update” but that does not fix the faulty transmission valve body issue, it just overrides the safety features that were designed to protect the transmission. I have a video of it occurring while slowing down for a stop sign when it did it the second time to me.

The engine oil cooler failed causing engine oil to leak into the coolant system on my 2024 Chevy Silverado 3500HD. This requires a full replacement of the coolant system. In addition, excessive sludge buildup inside the motor is caused. This is a known issue with GM for 2024 Diesel vehicles. GM has released a service bulletin but is fighting my local dealership on the required repairs.

No Owners Manual came with my Truck. I was made aware of Safety Recall 25V815 (Manufacturer Recall N252532020) which addressed 2025-2026 cars and trucks. Currently my 2024 is not included. I can confirm my dealer did not receive any owners manuals for most cars and trucks in 2024. I notified Chevrolet Customer Service and they did not assist. They Dealer was unable to assist and would not reimburse me for the Owners Manual I purchased. I am requesting reimbursement for the purchase of an Owners Manual.

Vehicle was making a very loud humming noise at 73 mph. After returning to the dealership they found that the bearings in the rear end house had destroyed themselves causing internal damage to the housing and the entire rear end now needs to be replaced.

At approximately 35,126 miles the oil cooler cracked and flooded my engine cooling system with over 2.5 gallons of oil causing catastrophic engine failure.

When pulling my trailer with my 2024 chevy 3500, I get the following alert displayed on my screen periodically: Trailer Brakes Disabled Service Required. The trailer brakes stop working on my 16000lb trailer and I need to pull off the road and shut off the truck, and then restart it to get my brakes working again. The dealer replaced the brake controller in the truck, but I still get the message. I towed this trailer across country 2 times in my 2020 chevy without a problem. I was driving on the interstate at around 65mph. Towing my fifth wheel. Transmission started shifting hard with a loud bang that sounded like we hit a huge pothole. A message popped up in the screen indicating “Reduced acceleration, drive with caution”. The transmission seems to be stuck in gear as we exited the highway. Check engine light was on. Came to a stop at a stop sign and barely had enough power to pull into a parking lot. We had the truck towed to a nearby dealership. Fault codes P0700 and P0747 were present. Service advisor said valve body would have to be rebuilt. It’s been 2 weeks and the valve body cover plate is still “backordered” with no estimated in stock date.

I keep getting a chunking noise coming from the rear of vehicle. Twice I have taking in to the dealer and I was told this condition may be caused by movement between the anchor plate and axle assembly. They have re-torqueing the joints of the leaf springs assembly. it coming loose. It has happened after 4,000 miles. This tells me that it can come loose while I am driving! GM has a service document ID: 5501065. It has been happening since 2020!
