Defect. Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 Civic vehicles manufactured January 16, 2014, to November 6, 2014 and 2015 Fit vehicles manufactured March 12, 2014, to May 12, 2015. The software settings that control the transmission operation may result in damage to the transmission drive pulley shaft.

Risk. If the transmission drive pulley shaft is damaged, it may break, and the vehicle may lose acceleration or the front wheels may lock up while driving, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy. Honda will notify owners, and dealers will update the software for the transmission, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin October 30, 2015. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's numbers for this recall are JU2 (Civic) and JU3(Fit).

Defect. American Honda Motor Co., Inc. (Honda) is recalling certain model year 2014 Honda Civic LX vehicles manufactured November 26, 2013, through January 21, 2014. In the affected vehicles, during mounting of the tires, the tire bead may have gotten pinched between the assembly equipment and the steel wheel rims, resulting in damage to the tire.

Risk. The tire damage could cause the tire to lose air, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy. Honda will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and replace any damaged tire, free of charge. The recall began on April 15, 2014. Owners may contact Honda at 1-800-999-1009. Honda's number for this recall is JD8.

From 2000 through 2017, Takata produced millions of air bag inflators using two types of phase-stabilized ammonium nitrate ("PSAN") propellant -- propellant 2004 and propellant 2004L. After prolonged exposure to high temperature cycles and humidity, inflators using propellant 2004 can degrade, causing the propellant to burn too quickly when ignited. Upon starting the car, all of a sudden, the IMID display area screen went white. I turned off the car and I restarted it, and it turned white and then immediately went black. There were no warning lamps or messages prior to the incident. So now I do not get alerts for an open door or tire pressure or maintenance and other notifications. This is a concern, especially when have young children in the vehicle.

Dear Secretary Duffy and NHTSA Leadership, I am writing to ask the Department of Transportation and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to take a closer look at the increasing problem of excessive headlight glare on American roads and to consider updating federal headlight standards to better reflect modern lighting technology. I recently watched a video by Car Coach Reports highlighting this issue, and it immediately resonated with me because excessive headlight glare has become a serious problem in my own life since moving to [XXX]. Many people here drive newer vehicles equipped with extremely bright headlights, and the difference is especially noticeable when I am driving my 2014 Honda Civic. I am only [XXX] old, yet I have reached the point where I am genuinely apprehensive about driving after dark. If even one vehicle with these extremely bright headlights is approaching me—or driving behind me—the glare can make it very difficult for me to clearly see the road, surrounding traffic, pedestrians, or lane markings. When the light is coming from behind me, it can also reflect through my mirrors and interfere with my vision. A driver should not have to choose between looking directly at painful glare or temporarily losing the ability to clearly see what is happening around them. I worry about what this means not only for people like me, but especially for older drivers and others whose vision may be more sensitive to glare. I respectfully urge DOT and NHTSA to

Inspecti9n won't pass due to evap and catalyst but the vehicle shows no codes

I bought a 2014 Honda Civic LX at a used car dealership. The day after I bought it, the passenger-side occupant position sensor came on. I returned the car, and they reset it. It came on again, was reset, and when it came on again, it was replaced. The new one came on again. This time I took it to my Honda dealer, and they reset it. It came on again, and I've been living with it since.I am concerned it might go off unexpectedly or worse, not go off in a crash. I see other years have this as a recall, but my car doesn't come up with a recall.

UNKNOWN component/system issue; entirety of vehicle is available for inspection. Problem has been reproduced by independent service center. Vehicle has been inspected by independent service center and local Honda dealership. No warning lamps/messages or stores codes. 1. Vehicle shakes at idle; periodically jerks and lurches when driving (RPMs, current gear are not relevant, no correlation). 2. When letting off the gas to “coast,” vehicle drops in speed abruptly as if the brakes are being applied which results in a “jolt.” The consequence is the vehicle essentially braking without signal; gas pedal must be engaged at all times unless intending to brake. 3. Vehicle hesitates significantly when accelerating. Even at >80% compression of the gas pedal, the speed of the vehicle will not increase. Only at full compression will the vehicle shift gears and begin to gain in speed yet accompanied by rough shuttering and loud, “airy” sounding rev. This is outside of the operational characteristics expected with the CVT transmission. Moderate to severe safety concern. Notes: Oil and transmission fluid have been drained and replaced at the dealership both less than 3k miles ago. Spark plugs and ignition coils have all been replaced with Honda parts less than 1k miles ago.

The contact stated that while driving on the highway at approximately 65 MPH, the vehicle lost power steering functionality, the vehicle lost power steering assist, and the steering wheel became difficult to turn. The vehicle was towed to a dealer; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that the failure had previously occurred, and the vehicle was repaired by a dealer. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 200,000.

Very infrequently the airbag light would briefly come on (solid, never flashing). It would only happen when turning the wheel counter clockwise, typically the wheel did not need to be turned very far for this to occur. The light would always go back off and no codes were found. On the night of 12/26/2025, I was driving onto the interstate (turning the wheel counterclockwise) when suddenly the passenger side curtain and passenger seat airbags deployed. My hearing went out, my windows fogged up, and I became disoriented. My vehicle briefly left the roadway and swerved into the narrow shoulder before I slowed down to a near stop. I resumed driving as there were vehicles approaching from behind. The vehicle has no impact damage and has never been in an accident. The airbags had stickers dating back to 2014 from when the vehicle was manufactured. The vehicle is rarely driven now as it is a safety concern.

Rpm slighting rising at low mph and it hesitates/jerks a bit

My Honda civic 2014 has a notice coming often in dashboard saying "Check airbag system". This car do not have major accident (only sight bumper hit on year 2022 on backside) and airbag never went off . Now the dealer was saying I need to pay for airbag change costing about $2,000. I think this airbag is defective and need further investigation.

Knocking sound from engine

The Situation: My vehicle has an open safety recall, NHTSA #15V-574 (Honda Recall JU2). This recall specifically warns that a software error causes high stress on the CVT drive pulley shaft, which can result in the shaft breaking during operation. Because this recall was never performed on my vehicle, the drive pulley shaft has now failed exactly as described, rendering the transmission useless. Legal Basis for Total Replacement: 1. Consequential Damage: The software update (the original recall remedy) was designed to prevent physical breakage. Since that remedy was not provided, the physical hardware has now failed. A software update cannot fix a broken shaft; therefore, a total replacement of the transmission is the only viable remedy for this safety defect. 2. Federal Law: Under the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act, manufacturers must provide a remedy for safety defects free of charge. Because the unaddressed defect led to the total failure of the transmission, Honda is obligated to cover the cost of the replacement.

The contact owns a 2014 Honda Civic. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended. In addition, the contact stated that the vehicle stalled. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with transmission failure. The contact was informed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 135,000.

My car is BROKEN DOWN COMPLETELY. I take care of it extremely well! The transmission went. Out of no where. This needs to be apart of the recall for Transmission Software may Result in Pulley Damage. I’ve had to get the brakes and rotors completely replaced twice in a year and they need to be done AGAIN already. That’s not normal, for brakes to wear that fast. The electric seats do not work and there’s an issue electrically that the trunk keeps popping open I had to unplug it. The battery randomly kept draining over night for a period of a month, then started working regularly again. I want this car to be included in the recalls and I want assistance about my vehicle

The contact owns a 2014 Honda Civic. The contact stated that while driving 40 MPH, the vehicle made an abnormal clunking sound and lost motive power. The contact stated that the vehicle felt like the transmission was in neutral(N), and the front wheels were locked. The check engine warning light was illuminated, and the message "Check Transmission" was displayed. The contact was able to pull over to the side of the road. The vehicle was undrivable and was towed to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the pulley shaft and the drive belt were damaged. The mechanic determined that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V574000 (Power Train). The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 197,000.

Drive shaft front axel is rusted and broke in the middle, not by joint. I see there are recalls for this model, but not under my vin number. The way it broke is not how it would normally break. Which is giving me concern it is a faulty product from being built or if it was replaced due to a previous recall

Out of nowhere today started my car to go to work and it’s leaking fuel from the fuel pump area, only when it is running, pouring out fuel, I seen that some 2014 Honda Civic’s have a recall for fuel pump manufactured between January 2014 through November 2014 and mine was manufactured in February 2014 and I have this fuel pump leak issue, no recalls come up when I enter my VIN, but this has to be one of them, would only make sense.

Continental P 195/65 R 15. 89 H. The tire blew and the side wall on the outside on the passenger side front. It looks shredded on the side- not a normal blown tire look. We were in the right lane on a 3 lane highway so we were able to get off as soon as it blew. Our safety was at risk because we had to change tire on the side of a busy 3 lane highway and it was late on a sunday night so nothing was open to replace and had to drive 70 miles back home on a donut. It could've caused an accident. No known issues/warnings/messages/etc. I will never buy another Continental again.

While driving at high speed on the freeway at 65mph, my Honda Civic Hybrid experienced a sudden and complete electrical failure of the hybrid battery control module (IPU/MCM). This happened without any warning lamps, messages, or prior symptoms. The hybrid system instantly shut down, causing a dramatic loss of power and forcing me to pull off the road in high-speed traffic. This placed me and other drivers at serious risk of a high-speed collision due to the abrupt power loss and inability to accelerate. The failed component is still installed and available for inspection. The issue has since been diagnosed and confirmed by an independent hybrid specialist, who identified the malfunctioning IPU. I was told this exact failure is covered by Honda Service Bulletin 20-030, which extends the warranty for affected Civic Hybrids to 10 years or 150,000 miles, however, my VIN is not included, despite the failure being identical in nature. Honda has refused to provide any assistance, stating that only specific VINs are eligible, which I believe is misleading and unjust. This defect is clearly broader than the TSB acknowledges. The sudden failure of a critical propulsion system at high speed without warning is a major safety hazard and should not be limited by an arbitrarily narrow VIN list. I urge the NHTSA to investigate this issue and require Honda to expand the scope of TSB 20-030. This defect compromises driver safety and has caused me significant financial and emotional stress, no

In a Honda CVT when the filter becomes clogged, pressure will build and the fill cap will come off the transmission on its own to relieve the pressure. There is no warning indication system to tell you when it happens but it seems to be a persistent issue in their CVTs. after the cap blows off fluid will start leaking on the casing and dirt and other contaminates will make their way into the transmission. This poses a massive safety issue as it can cause the transmission to lock up. When going to use professional service websites such as pro-demand and all data Honda gives no information about this issue or even how to fix it.

About a year ago, the transmission failed costing us nearly $5000 to fix it. This incident happened approximately April of 2022, no warning signs at all. Now, the airbag deployed while merging onto the freeway without any impact which was the scariest thing. I’m very concerned there are other issues. There were no warning signs on both incidents.

November 1,2024, as I was about to pull into traffic at an intersection my car would not let me accelerate. The engine was still on but I could not use the gas. I could steer. Luckily I was on an incline where I could coast down the hill and turn into a Lowe's parking lot to wait for a tow truck. It turns out my axle broke. They said there was no damage other than a rubber gasket rotted. There was no warning whatsoever. No unusual sounds or anything else. The car was running perfect for about about a half an hour hour that morning before this happened. My car has just over 50,000 miles on it. There was no other damage to the axle – I had not ran over anything or damaged it in any other way. It was just the rubber gasket according to the Honda dealer. I paid almost $800 for the repair – with a coupon!

The transmission does not shift good at city speeds. It is jerky/grabby and It is prematurely wearing fluid down (burnt with only 19k since last change) It is miserable to drive due to the constant grabbing and releasing when you coast then apply gas. I fear it will lock up or fail which could lead to an accident.

My 2014 Honda Civic LX was leaking fluid. Took it as soon as possible to a shop to get it inspected. On the drive there the car was revving but not accelerating, the shop told me transmission filler cap had popped off and was laying next to the hole and to take it to a transmission shop. Towed it to a transmission shop where they reproduced the accelerating issue and also found excessive metal in the transmission fluid to the point a magnet could stick on the aluminum transmission pan. They believe it was due to high pressure in the CVT that pushed the cap out and then caused the sensor to leak as well. They recommended to completely replace the whole transmission because of so much internal damage to the transmission and to not drive it. They said the rest of the car was in perfect condition, nothing wrong with the engine, oil, etc. only the transmission.

While driving down a busy freeway, the CVT transmission failed. I was able to coast a little ways, but was unable to find a safe place to clear the road and traffic. I immediately called 911 for state trooper assistance to keep me from being rear-ended. I had no warning or Caution light on the dash until after the transmission failed. After the failure, I got the check transmission advisory on the dashboard. The Honda dealership confirmed it was a transmission failure.

Vehicle dashboard indicated that Airbag intermediately had issues and service was needed. Vehicle taken to dealership and had to have failing airbag replaced.

While driving the vehicle locked up and I was not able to accelerate, during mid rush traffic , had to pull over and vehicle was leaking trans fluid the area where is first locked up. Having towed to Hugh White Honda in Columbus Ohio Georgesville Road

ABS/VSA system module failing because of circuit board. Circuit board does not have all wires soldered onto system. Issue by manufacturer. This affects braking system, abs/VSA module, power steering and tpms sensors. Car is unsafe for driver and other vehicles on the road. Inspected by Honda and given code 123-11 for failing ABS solenoid. Highly dangerous.

The transmission of the car gave out within 95000 miles even after regular maintenance at authorized Honda dealerships. So, the car lasted only 10 years and less than 100K miles. The cost to replace the broken CVT transmission is more than the value of the car meaning you have to basically trash your car after 10 years.

The contact stopped the vehicle and confirmed that there was nothing underneath the vehicle; however, the vehicle failed to exceed 15 MPH. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and diagnosed with a transmission failure. The independent mechanic stated that while test-driving the vehicle, the vehicle stopped, and was towed back to the mechanic shop. The vehicle was then towed to the residence where another independent mechanic diagnosed the vehicle with the same failure. The contact discovered NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V574000 (Power Train); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The dealer was contacted and confirmed that the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000.

The transmission suddenly started slipping and wasnt pulling reliably while I was on the highway in the middle of St. Louis, MO with heavy, fast traffic. There were no warning lights or signs to alert me that something was wrong before this happened. I immediately pulled off the highway, but struggled to change lanes in heavy traffic with very little pull from the transmission. I was forced to cut in front of people that were moving faster than me in order to get out of the way. Once I got off the highway, I immediately stopped to check under the hood. The fill plug for the transmission was off, and was laying next to the fill hole. I had to have it towed, and the shop told me that the vent plug on top of the transmission was clogged. They believe that this is the cause for the excessive pressure buildup which caused the plug to come out. They also said that a sensor on the bottom of my transmission started leaking oil due to the pressure. The sensor was not damaged in any way, but the oil leaking out caused damage to my transmission. The shop informed me that my transmission was low on cvt oil when they drained it, but didn't see any concerning signs in the oil. They refilled it hoping that it would fix the problem. After testing, they informed me that too much damage was caused to the transmission, and I would need a new one. Honda told me that the transmission was out of warranty both by miles (85,000) and year (2014). I had the car towed to another shop closer to home, an

Air bag light came on like 1 year ago. I had the dealership do the diagnostic on the car. They said it was cable relay. They said estimate to repair was over $2000. I have contacted Honda Goodwill department and after several emails and phone calls they gave me an option to pay $100 and they cover the rest. I have agreed. They have replaced cable relay and everything was fine. About a month later the airbag light came back on. I went to the dealership for diagnostics and they said that its the driver side airbag that is defective and that they recommended it to be replaced. Cost with labor $1100. I wrote to Honda Goodwill again but the said they only did a one time courtesy and that i am responsible for the future expenses. The car has never been in an accident and its not my fault that there is an airbag issue. Im afraid of my and my family’s safety when i drive the car. Please help.

My front driver side cv axel broke in half while driving, boot was not damaged.

The contact owns a 2014 Honda Civic. The contact stated that the air bag warning light was intermittently illuminated on the instrument panel while driving at various speeds. Over time, the air bag warning light remained illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and was diagnosed with a defective air bag module. The contact was provided an estimate for the repair. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 77,600.

The car crashed into the back of the truck in front of it. The crash caused the airbag to go off and either the airbag itself or the area that covers the steering wheel cut my wife’s jaw/throat. She was luck it did not cut her artery or wind pipe she was able to be transported to the hospital and survived.

Vehicle is showing multiple codes for abs, hill assist, power steering , brakes etc.

The contact owns a 2014 Honda Civic. The contact stated that the gear shifter was significantly loosened while shifting gear. Additionally, the contact stated that the air bags warning light and the TPMS warning light were illuminated. An unknown dealer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 153,000.

The plug for the transmission fill continually pops off. This is apparently is a common problem with this model.

The transmission stopped working and the car stopped in the middle of the road. I see a recall on the Civic 2014 however, my vin # isn't part of those vehicles that were recalled.

Transmission died at 128k miles on the highway. Steering wheel locked up. Meticulously maintained car with no prior issues. The problem has no been reproduced by a dealer as the car is undriveable but has been confirmed by a mechanic shop. There were no warning messages or symptoms of the problem prior to the transmission dying and no warning messages even after the transmission died to indicate that it was the problem.

I was approaching a green light, and engaged the brakes to slow down. As I approached the light reaching approximate 10MPH. The car shuddered, and the alternator must have glitched again.The wheel cranked itself back and forth, causing the car to spin and turn into oncoming traffic. This issue has been recalled for this vehicle but not this VIN. I have notified 3 Honda repair shops of this issue, and have been turned away. The problem is with the electromagnet in the electric steering column. It is well documented, and I have video of several instances of thi issue occurring. Additional witnesses of the problem are available. And the incident itself resulting in property damage and bodily harm. Honda was made aware of this problem on multiple occasions, and did nothing to remedy the problem.

Honda Civic 2014 - The right CV axle (drive shaft) was corroded and detached causing the vehicle to become immovable while in traffic. Fortunately, we were near a stop light and traffic was going slow and able to go around the vehicle without causing a crash. The vehicle had to be towed. This same issue is already a recall for the Honda Accord 2013-2015. We had this same thing happen to our 2013 Honda Accord at a major traffic intersection. Again, the vehicle had to be towed and repaired. The remaining side was replaced via Honda recall. We are asking that there be a mandatory recall of this issue for the 2014 Honda Civic as it is a safety risk. We are just lucky that both of these incidents occurred while near stop lights and no one was injured. However, there is one side remaining on our Civic that needs replaced and hopefully the recall will be issued before the car breaks down and causes a crash and possible deathly injury. We contacted Honda and they said we can take the car in for a diagnostic inspection at a personal cost to us of $100-$500 depending on the dealer. This is unacceptable.

I was driving on the highway and all of a sudden all the warning lights came on on the dash and the car started decelerating when I went to press on the gas pedal the engine revved but the car would not pick up speed it was in limp mode. I took it to the dealership and they said it's the transmission that needs to be replaced. Apparently this is a common. problem and should be a recall.

The contact's daughter owns a 2014 Honda Civic. The contact stated while her daughter was driving 25 MPH, she heard an abnormally loud sound coming from underneath the vehicle, and the vehicle lost motive power. The contact's daughter was able to roll to the side of the road. The vehicle was then pushed to the driveway of the residence. The contact stated that she then noticed fluid, broken parts, and bolts on the ground, at the site of the failure. The contact stated that the vehicle was able to be restarted but failed to respond upon shifting into drive(D). The dealer and the manufacturer were notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle could not be repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V574000 (Power Train) because the VIN was not included. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.

On August 30, while driving the power steering warning activated and the steering wheel become extremely hard to move. Stopped the car and followed the troubleshoot procedure; however, the failure persisted and had to request a tow truck. When the tow truck showed up several hours later, the steering operated normally and warning lights were gone. The car was towed to the Honda dealership Klein Honda 10611 Evergreen Way south, Everett, WA 98204. As the car was offloaded the tow truck, the steering operated normally and without any warnings. After few minutes at the dealership, I started the car and got the steering warning and the steering was extremely hard to move. The next day I got a call from the dealer and was told that the Electric Power Steering module was filled with water and was completely burned. The Service Manager provided the DTC fault codes 33-01 and 33-06. The dealership brought an expert to trace the water source on Friday Sept 8. The water expert investigated the water leak source. The water leak was caused by deteriorating insulation material on the right-hand side of the car and ended up in the Electric Power Steering module, causing the loss of steering. This raises significant concerns as a customer and as a person sharing the road with other Honda cars for the following facts: The car has low miles, less than 78000, The car is 9 years old, The car has been in mild climate/weather, Honda does not require inspection/removal and replacement of such compon

While I was driving, a truck hit me from behind causing a 5 car accident. My car was unable to be driven from the scene. The radiator and front collision bar are very bent in, however my airbags did not deploy. The truck was going 60 mph when it hit me hard enough to cause another 3 cars to have damage. This is a potential issue for others and currently I have very bad neck and head pain from the accident. My car had a warning screen saying “check airbag system” after the accident.
