2023 GMC Yukon XL

Defect. General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2021-2024 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Suburban, and Tahoe, GMC Sierra 1500, Yukon, and Yukon XL vehicles equipped with a 6.2L V8 gas engine. The connecting rod and/or crankshaft engine components may have manufacturing defects that can lead to engine damage and engine failure.

Risk. Engine failure increases the risk of a crash.

Remedy. Dealers will inspect the engine, and as necessary, repair or replace the engine. For vehicles that pass inspection, dealers will add higher viscosity oil, install 6 oil fill cap, replace the oil filter, and update the owner's manual. Repairs will be performed free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed June 18, 2025. Defect. General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, GMC Sierra 1500, 2023-2024 Chevrolet Tahoe, Suburban, GMC Yukon, Yukon XL, Cadillac Escalade, and Escalade ESV vehicles. The electronic brake control module software may fail to display a warning light when a loss of brake fluid occurs. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Vehicle Safety Standard number 135, "Light Vehicle Brake Systems."

Risk. Without a warning light, the vehicle may be driven with low brake fluid, which can reduce braking performance and increase the risk of a crash.

Remedy. The Electronic Brake Control Module (eBCM) software will be updated through an over-the-air (OTA) update or by a dealer, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed October 25, 2024. Defect. General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2023 Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Suburban, Chevrolet Tahoe, GMC Yukon, and Yukon XL vehicles. The rear suspension outer control arm bolts may not have been properly heat-treated, which can cause the bolts to break.

Risk. A broken suspension bolt can result in misalignment of the rear wheel, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy. Dealers will replace both rear suspension outer control arm bolts, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed November 14, 2023. Defect. General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2020-2023 Cadillac CT4 and CT5; 2021-2023 Buick Envision; and 2022-2023 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Suburban, Tahoe, GMC Sierra 1500, Yukon, and Yukon XL vehicles. The daytime running lights (DRLs) may not deactivate when the headlights are on. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."

Risk. DRLs that do not deactivate as intended may result in a glare, reducing visibility, and increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy. The body control module software will be updated by a dealer, or through an over-the-air (OTA) update, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed January 23, 2023. At around 7pm on Sunday October 18th I was driving on an interstate at about 80mph in the far left lane (of 3 Lanes) when, without any warning whatsoever, the engine power completely shutoff and the car went into neutral. The dash screen said to start the engine due to no power or low battery. I hit the start button and all the lights including all controls, blinkers, dash lights shut off. So with no blinkers, no lights, no power brakes, no power steering we were coasting in the fast lane of a usually unsafe stretch of an interstate at night. Luckily, I was able to navigate without any power to the right shoulder (lucky this was a stretch that had a shoulder) and coast to a stop. I had my wife and 4 kids in the car with me. The car was dead and said the engine battery was low. When the engine start button was pushed nothing happened, car was dead with no heat. We called onstar and requested a tow and were able to order a Lyft ride for my wife and 4 kids. The Lyft driver came to pick them up on the adjacent frontage road and they had to run across the grass median to get into that car, there was no other option to get them off of the unsafe shoulder. I stayed with the car with no power while cars and 18 wheelers speed by me while sitting on the shoulder without any lights or flashers. A highway patrol officer pulled up behind me and when he tried to open the passenger door he was unable to . I was LOCKED INSIDE THE CAR! Luckily the door unlock eventually worked and the door op

Vehicle keeps stall and loose power , I've been to the dealer many times and they replaced many parts (paid out of pocket)and the problem still , so after all of that and the struggle for months that i need to replace the engine . so i did replace the engine that cost me over 6k (out of pocket) and the problem is still , i went back and forth to the dealership and couldn't figure it out or reimburse me for anything.

The same motor in this truck is part of one of the biggest national recalls in GM history. With that said my truck experienced the exact same issue where the engine rods warp or bend when they heat up causing to damage the crank shaft and the motor to seize. This is exactly what happen to my truck, but yet my trucks vin number is not part of the national recall? I was also told that I would receive assistance for the repair and a rental reimbursement and I am yet to receive neither. Something doesn't seem right and it needs to be investigated further. On top of all that, this has been ongoing since March of 2026. The truck was bought at West Palm Beach Cadillac and is currently still at the service center at Island GMC in Staten Island NY.

The engine of this car failed at high speeds on [XXX], in [XXX], at 40,000 miles. GMC claimed the lifters in the 3rd cylinder failed and they were replaced under warranty. The lifters in the 3rd cylinder failed again, at high speeds on [XXX], at 77,000 miles. GMC claimed the lifters and crank shaft needed to be replaced. After paying for the repair and getting the car back, the engine locked up and failed within 30 miles of being fixed at 77,000 miles. Prior to these issues, there were no warnings and no symptoms. The car supposedly was not included in the engine recall by GMC. Two of the three incidents happened at speeds of 75 mph, the third occurred on a highway and speed of 55 mph. The contact owns a 2023 GMC Yukon XL. The contact stated that the vehicle was experiencing engine failures and was undergoing its fourth engine replacement. The contact stated that during each failure, abnormal noises were heard before the engine blew. The vehicle was towed to the dealer after each incident, and the dealer diagnosed that the engine blew and metal shavings were found in the engine oil. After the most recent engine replacement, the engine failed again during a dealer test drive after 9 miles. The manufacturer was formally notified of the recurring failures. The failure mileage was 67,000.

I have suffered 2 engine replacements on this SUV and Im still under 50,000 miles on the car. One of the times I was traveling at highway speeds in a passing lane when it failed. I was with my children at this time and we barely got off the road to a safe place. After talking to GMC, they are unwilling to help me with anything. I have received 2 new engines from them but nothing else. Between both repairs, my car was in the shop about 3 months.

The car suddenly started bucking while driving on I95 at about 75 miles per hour. We were able to coast off highway and when finally towed to a dealership we were told we needed a new engine. The vehicle at the time had about 57,300 miles. It was very scary to be on a dangerous highway with tractor trailers speeding past and have NO control over the vehicle.

Driving when vehicle locked up, engine stopped, lost all power steering and ability to control. Ended up stranded in the middle of the road unable to move it out of roadway

The contact owns a 2023 GMC Yukon XL. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, a bystander warned the contact that there was smoke coming from the exhaust pipe. The check engine warning light was illuminated. Additionally, the vehicle was running rough, and failed to properly accelerate, with a rattling sound coming from the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the dealer. The dealer diagnosed the vehicle with crankshaft failure and lifter failure. The contact was informed that the lifters and crankshaft needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was contacted by phone and made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 133,000.

Car engine camshaft damage and lifter break. The engine suddenly failed while we were driving slowly locally, so no injuries occurred. Yes, the dealer diagnosed the issue and carried out repairs. I later filed a claim with GMC, but they rejected it, forcing me to pay $5,000 for the repairs out of pocket. The engine suddenly stopped working and emitted a strong, acrid odor—without any warning—followed by the illumination of the check engine light.

While driving in heavy rain, the wipers failed and stopped working. Turning on and off the car did not re-set or help the wipers to work. Hugely dangerous. Dealership trying to charge me a huge sum to fix what should be a working component of the car that is 2 years old. Recall this immediately! Dealership wants almost $500 total and made me put $200 down before any work is done!

This is an ongoing problem from date of purchase, before the normal oil change time the low oil light comes on. When i check the oil dip stick it is in fact low. I have to add at least 2 qts of oil to get it to the right level. Time frame would be at least once every 2 months under normal CA driving conditions. Also does have a rough idle and noise that sounds like the motor is going to come apart on startup. I have takin it to the dealer, they performed consumption test and checked the motor recall. The dealer told us that our motor passed the recall inspection, made the changes, oil, oil cap, etc. Then told us it passed the consumption test. Since then I still have to add oil between oil changes. We were told by the service tech that even if the motor is bad, there is no replacements at this time and the vehicle would just sit at our dealership until we can get a replacement. No one has been hurt at this time. I'm just waiting for the motor to lock up. The vehicle can be inspected upon request. The only warning light that comes on is the low engine oil warning.

I had the recall remedy of the v8 completed. They said it only required thicker oil which now lowers fuel economy and costs more for oil changes. After the recall, the engine still makes a knocking sound

On September 17, 2026, and again on September 20, 2026 (three separate occurrences the same day), while operating my 2023 GMC Yukon XL in rain, the windshield wipers momentarily stopped functioning while set to Auto/Intermittent mode. On both dates the automatic headlights were active (ambient temperature in the low-to-mid 80s°F), and the headlights simultaneously flickered/dropped out during the wiper interruption. This is not an isolated event; it has recurred on multiple occasions under similar conditions (active rain, wipers in Auto or Intermittent mode). Loss of both wiper function and headlight illumination at the same moment, during active rainfall, creates an immediate visibility and safety hazard. GM has issued Technical Service Bulletin #23-NA-149 acknowledging intermittent windshield wiper failures on this vehicle platform, but has not provided a confirmed root-cause repair, and no safety recall has been issued for this condition.

As I was driving on the highway the engine stopped without warning. I was able to safely maneuver the vehicle to the shoulder, but it took me a minute to figure out what happened. There were no engine warning lights in advance of the failure. It was concerning because I was traveling home alone with my 2 dogs and it was very hot. The vehicle had a prior Safety Recall performed regarding this issue, but the engine failed anyway. GM did replace the engine under warranty, but I am hearing that replacement engines are also failing, and I am worried this engine will fail outside the current warranty.

Vehicle passed previous recall for engine defect related to complete engine failure, GM switched oil viscosity. Recall performed 10-16-25. Complete engine failure diagnosed at dealer 9-4-26, related to exact malfunction that sparked recall.

I got a yukon at4 and I had to replace it for the one with this vin number [XXX], the first one had a problem with the engine and the offer me to change it for a new one and accept it but since then it has given me problems, at first it was a small pull that felt, then an engine problem, that they "fix" and i have to come back because the " pull " still existed, they fixed it, and after around 3 months after, I had a an engine light one , collision light on, and ESC light one, took it to the dealer and it was something related with the engine again. Catastrophic engine failure and sudden loss of propulsion on a highway after completing GM's OW-40 oil recall remedy.

After engine passed check for possible replacement because of recall, engine failed 5000 miles after. Even though I have a new engine now, there is no warranty coverage other than the lower part of the engine. I am already having misfire issues.

I was Driving down the interstate when the RPMS on my car increased and my car started to shutter. I went to get off the roadway and it put itself into neutral and lowered my speed. when i got On the shoulder it stalled and would not turn back on. I had To be towed. To this point, my car has been in the shop for over a week with no solution.

I am reporting a severe, recurring, and life-threatening manufacturing defect involving a sudden, catastrophic loss of motive power at highway speeds on the interstate. This vehicle has suffered two identical valvetrain failures that placed my passengers and nearby motorists in extreme danger. Incident 1 (Approx. 40,000 miles): While traveling at high speed on the interstate, the vehicle violently shook, all engine warning lights flashed, and the engine suffered an immediate, near-total loss of propulsion. The vehicle was towed to an authorized GMC dealership, where technicians diagnosed a collapsed Dynamic Fuel Management (DFM) hydraulic lifter in Cylinder 3. The lifter bank was replaced under the factory powertrain warranty. Incident 2 (Approx. 77,000 miles): While driving at high speed on the interstate, the exact same vehicle behavior occurred. The engine suffered a sudden, total loss of power, and all dashboard warning lights illuminated simultaneously. Out of absolute necessity and to avoid a catastrophic high-speed collision on a dangerous stretch of highway, the severely crippled vehicle had to be forced through active interstate traffic without proper engine power all the way to my home. My vehicle had a previous engine recall that was “fixed” per the dealership recommendations. However, I succumbed to total engine failure last week at 70000 miles with my 2 little kids in the car on an interstate. My engine needs replaced.

Second engine sized at 87,834 miles. Third engine installed three weeks later.

Engine shut off with no warning, all electronics disabled and couldn't shift out of park. Was driving down the road at approximately 50mph, Yukon shifted itself into neutral. Vehicle previously complied with the 25V-274 recall and passed, was operating on the new oil that GM recommended.

On August 17th, 2026 while approaching a nature preserve entrance at approximately 1 mph, my 2023 GMC Yukon Denali Ultimate suddenly accelerated on its own, without the driver pressing the accelerator pedal, striking a split-rail fence and a tree. Airbags did not deploy. The front collision system didn't issue any alerts about the fence and tree. A GM software update had been installed a couple of days before this incident . In the weeks prior, the vehicle had also intermittently failed to hold side mirror position and periodically failed to deploy the power running boards. I request that GM and NHTSA investigate a possible link between the recent software update and an unintended acceleration event, potentially related to the adaptive cruise control or another driver-assist/body control module.

My vehicle was taken in as part of the 25v-274 recall. It passed and was given the new oil. It underwent a second oil change using the new oil and before the third oil change at around 46,000 miles the engine was having trouble. I took it in for the oil change and the engine issue. I have barely been told anything but from what I understand I have a camshaft issue and need new lifters. I haven't seen my car in 12 days and have received almost to no updates.

2023 Yukon XL AT4 with 67k miles suddenly had lifters fail. GM service said cam scored & metal debris all the way through to the pan, requiring total engine replacement. Vehicle was very well maintained with premium fluids and parts.

On August 20th, while in cruise control, slight ringing noise began, then a loud thump, then a loss of oil pressure. Unable to do anything other than pull over on an interstate with my family. Again, very dangerous. The vehicle would not restart and could not be shifted out of park. Had to have the vehicle towed again. Have also had at least 8 recalls on the vehicle. Unbelievably dangerous situations with my family, aside from inconvenient and expensive.

My 2023 GMC Yukon Denali XL, used as a commercial vehicle for my business, experienced sudden and complete engine failure at approximately 70,000 miles with no prior warning. No check engine light, no unusual noise, and no other symptoms. The vehicle had previously been inspected/serviced under GM Safety Recall 25V-274 (L87 Engine Loss of Propulsion) and had been deemed safe prior to this failure. The failure occurred while driving on a two-lane road in Durango, CO. The vehicle lost all propulsion and came to a stop in the roadway, blocking the lane of travel and forcing other vehicles to cross into the oncoming traffic lane to go around the disabled vehicle. This created a serious and immediate hazard to myself and to oncoming traffic. The vehicle was not driveable and had to be towed. The dealer confirmed catastrophic engine failure requiring a complete engine replacement. After the engine replacement, the Morehart Murphy GMC dealership in Durango also failed to properly recalibrate vehicle sensors. They did not reinstall certain suspension components that had been removed for the engine replacement, requiring multiple additional dealership visits to resolve along with recalibration of the air ride suspension. After the replacement I was getting messages that the vehicle was "too low to drive with caution" and "Reduced Acceleration Drive With Care." Our lifters in cylinder 3 were replaced after failing at 40,000 miles. The exact same lifters broke again at 77,000 miles.both events caused engine failure.

2023 GMC Yukon XL(6.2 liter engine).Engine has failed twice with the first incident being on the interstate and the engine seized without warning with only 38,000 miles. GMC replaced the engine and now the second engine has failed with only 80,000 miles on it. I am told there needs to be a third engine installed and the vehicle is only three years old. On my 2023 GMC Yukon, XL the infotainment screen freezes and you have no access to any vehicle information, including rearview camera. This issue appeared three months after I purchased a vehicle in 2023 and was taken to the dealership confirmed the issue, but said the resolution was to do a hard reset on the infotainment center. After driving the car for three years and taking the advice of the dealership and resetting the infotainment center every few weeks, the problem escalated and started freezing up at least once a week to eventually doing it every day and the heart reset wouldn’t always work the first time. Dealership eventually confirmed it was a defective radio module. This is a very large vehicle and the rearview camera is an essential necessity to avoid collision.

I got into my car to run some errands. As I drove away from my house, I made a left turn downhill. I noticed vehicles ahead, so I began to slow down. At that moment, I was driving between 20 and 25 mph. When I tried to brake, my brakes failed and started flashing a brake failure warning light. I kept pumping the brake pedal, and eventually, the car slowed down and came to a stop. I turned on my hazard lights, and immediately returned home. My nephew and I were both in the car. Our live flashed in front of us. Thankfully, there were no vehicles directly in front of me or pedestrians. This could have turned out to be the worst day of my life if anyone had been injured.

The car just died while going 55mph on the highway. Complete shutdown but luckily both the steering and brakes worked. After stopping it wouldn’t start again. I had my three children in the car aged [XXX], [XXX], and [XXX]. It was a horrific experience. GMC did some repairs to the engine that took over two months and then the car had a few more warnings pop up just a few weeks later. GMC now says there is a misfiring in one of the positions. I’m terrified of driving this car with my children as I don’t know when it will shut off again and how bad it will be! On July 14, 2026, I experienced a serious fuel system failure with my 2023 GMC Denali. That morning, I filled the vehicle with a little over 20 gallons of fuel at a gas station approximately two miles from my home. Later in the day, I made a short trip to my neighborhood swimming pool, roughly 1.5 miles round trip, with no unusual noises or warnings from the vehicle. Approximately two hours after returning home, I entered the vehicle to run an errand. When I shifted into reverse and began backing out of my carport, I immediately heard a scraping noise on the concrete. I stopped the vehicle and inspected underneath. At that point, I discovered that the entire fuel tank had fallen out of the vehicle and was resting on the ground. I contacted roadside assistance, and the vehicle was towed to the dealership. The dealership informed me that the fuel tank support straps were missing, which allowed the tank to detach and fall. I personally searched along all the routes I had driven earlier that day and did not locate any straps or debris. The tank itself showed no impact damage, suggesting it dropped cleanly rather than being torn loose by road contact. Although the vehicle is relatively new, my bumper to bumper warranty expired in September 2025, and I was charged for the repair. On a long trip the fuel tank straps and bolts holding the gas tank failed causing the fuel tank to fall and be dragged causing massive fuel spill. The problem has been confirmed by the dealer. Additionally, while attempting to start the vehicle, the Forward Collision Avoidance warning light was illuminated. The vehicle remained with the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 44,000.

While driving about 70 mph in the express lanes, the vehicle suddenly lost power and drifted like it went into neutral. There were no warning symbols. The vehicle could not restart even while coasting. After stopping, it locked itself in park and would not shift out of park. My family and I were trapped on the express lanes for over an hour in a dangerous location. The vehicle stayed stuck in park even on the tow truck. The dealer confirmed metal in the oil filter, a blown main fuse, and knocking when starting. The recall inspection and remedy were already done, but the failure still happened. The vehicle is undriveable and the required recall repair cannot be completed because the replacement engine is on backorder with no ETA.

Engine seized after the pico test. Been 3 months waiting on an engine

My wife and I were traveling to Denver CO to pick up my son and grandson from the airport. The engine started to make a very exaggerated rattle. We found a dealership near our motel where we took the vehicle to and were told not to drive home that the engine needed to be replaced. We had to arrange our own transportation for both us and the vehicle 8 hrs back to our home in Rapid City, SD where our local dealership replaced the engine. The vehicle had approximately 65,000 miles when this occurred. Fortunately we were in a populated area when this occurred as there is a lot of very sparsely populated area between our home and Denver. This malfunction not only cost me a lot of money but also put my family at risk in unfamiliar areas.

Lost power going down highway and coasted to a stop on the side of the road. car was towed to a nearby gmc dealership and after inspection a new 6.2 motor is needed. I did not notice any warning signals when I lost power.

The cabin heater stopped working too, It was -9 Degrees outside that day and we started to freeze, luckily my wife was able to get to us in 20minutes. The vehicle was towed to GM dealership and they confirmed the engine seized and will need a new engine under special coverage N252494003-03. This was after the recall was completed for this vehicle. It had only 61392KMS on it. We live in [XXX] and it gets extreme winters with below -40degree temperatures. It’s a remote area and there is no service on the highway for 200KMS when heading south to city, if this would have happened on the highway with no services and extreme weather we wouldn’t have made it out alive. We are a family of 5 with a [XXX] and a [XXX] and we bought this vehicle after knowing that the engine recall was completed and GM deemed it safe. This vehicle was identified as recalled in 2025 for total engine replacement and the engine did fail in May 2025 it would stall while driving. GMC performed the engine replacement in June of 2025. The car stalled again on Friday May 1. It was taken to the dealer on May 7 and was diagnosed as needing another complete engine replacement. I was told that gmc identified a need to replace more parts after my engine was replaced but I was never informed of this. I was told my this dealership that I am the first vehicle they’ve seen that will require a second full engine replacement It is a 6.3L v8. This car stalled while I was driving with a 3yo in the vehicle.

My 2023 GMC Yukon Denali is currently at the dealership due to a manufacturer recall involving the engine. The engine issue occurred while I was driving with my children in the vehicle, which required me to pull over and have the vehicle towed to the dealership After inspection, I was told the vehicle requires a full engine replacement. The dealership has stated there is no estimated time of arrival for the replacement engine due to backorder, and that other customers have been waiting for extended periods. I am currently without my vehicle and have been provided a temporary replacement that is not comparable. The extended delay and lack of timeline are causing significant loss of use.

On 2/28/26 i experienced complete engine failure on my 23 Yukon. I was going 70mph on the highway when the engine kicked and and kicked into neutral. the car spent 6 weeks in the dealer to have the engine replaced. i picked up the car on Wednesday, 4/15. On 4/16, i was once again driving, as normal when it suddenly turned off and kicked into neutral. 1 day after I picked up the vehicle it is once again being towed back to the dealer for the same symptoms it had when the entire engine had to be replaced. Both times, there is no warning. The car dings and a message comes up saying "restart vehicle". On 2/28, the car would not restart. On 4/16, the car did restart but only temporarily This is a major safety problem. The first occurrence I was going 70mph on the highway when i lost power. The second occurrence, I was driving 20mph on my neighborhood street and suddenly lost all power.
