Part 573 reports
Equipment › Mechanical › Carrier/Rack94V061000
Filed Apr 1, 1994121 vehiclesFleetwood Ent., Inc.

Defect. THE SPARE TIRE AND WHEEL ASSEMBLY IS ATTACHED TO THE MOTORHOME WITH A CHAIN AND PULLEY MECHANISM. IF INADEQUATE TENSION IS NOT PRE-LOADED INTO THIS MECHANISM, ROAD VIBRATION CAN CAUSE THE FRICTION CLUTCH TO SLOWLY RELEASE OR BACKDRIVE THE MECHANISM, WHICH CAUSES THE SPARE TIRE AND WHEEL ASSEMBLY TO SLOWLY LOWER AND CONTACT THE ROAD SURFACE FORWARD OF THE FRONT AXLE.

Risk. IF THIS HAPPENS A POTENTIAL SAFETY HAZARD AND/OR ROAD OBSTRUCTION COULD RESULT.

Remedy. DEALERS WILL INSTALL A SQUARE CHAIN CONNECTOR IN THE MECHANISM'S TIRE SUPPORT CHAIN. ALSO, A REDUNDANT CHAIN, BRACKET, AND CHAIN CONNECTOR WILL BE INSTALLED TO PHYSICALLY CONNECT THE SPARE TIRE AND WHEEL ASSEMBLY TO THE UNDERCARRIAGE.

Electrical System › Ignition › Switch93V127000
Filed Jul 26, 199334 vehiclesFleetwood Ent., Inc.

Defect. FINAL STAGE MANUFACTURING REQUIRED THE POWER DISTRIBUTION AND IGNITION SYSTEM WIRING TO BE REROUTED. THIS WIRING CHANGE LEFT THESE CIRCUITS UNPROTECTED AGAINST HIGH ELECTRICAL CURRENTS.

Risk. SHOULD AN ELECTRICAL SHORT OR OVERLOAD OCCUR, THECHASSIS WIRING WILL OVERHEAT AND MAY CAUSE A FIRE.

Remedy. FLEETWOOD DEALERS WILL INSTALL APPROPRIATE FUSIBLE LINKS WITHIN THE CIRCUIT.

Reading this record

No unusual pattern of severe incidents in the complaint record.

Complaint counts track how many cars were sold and how long they have been on the road as much as they track quality. A common model from 2013 has had a decade to accumulate reports; a rare one from last year has not. The signal worth weighing is in the severity columns, in whether the same component keeps appearing, and in whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.

Recall repairs are free for as long as the recall stands. Check whether a specific car still has open work at NHTSA's VIN lookup.

Most recent recall on file: Apr 1, 1994. Source: NHTSA Office of Defects Investigation.
