Defect. Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2017-2020 Pacifica Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles ("PHEV"). The 12 volt isolator post located behind the driver's seat may develop high resistance.
Risk. A high resistance electrical connection may result in the connection overheating, increasing the risk of a fire with the vehicle on or off.
Remedy. FCA will conduct a voluntary safety recall on affected vehicles to increase the torque and install a waterproof gasket to the 12v isolator post, the post will also be inspected for signs of contamination. In the event the post is compromised, the 12v isolator post and associated cables will be replaced. Until the final remedy is available, customers should bring their vehicles to dealers for an interim inspection of this joint. The recall remedy is currently under development. FCA US LLC will notify owners, and dealers will perform an interim inspection of this joint. If the inspection indicates the joint is compromised, owners will receive a loaner vehicle, until a final remedy is developed. Interim notifications are expected to begin around June 22, 2020. The recall began July 30, 2020. Owners may contact FCA US LLC customer service at 1-800-853-1403. FCA US LLC's number for this recall is W46. Note: Consumers are advised to exercise the following precautions until the vehicle has the final repair completed: do not park these vehicles inside of buildings or structures, or near other vehicles. Additionally, keep liquids out of the backseat area, including but not limited to beverages, wet items, umbrellas, or bottled liquids that may leak.

We received multiple reminders for the recalls to be addressed, but each time we make an appointment at various service centers, they say that they cannot address the recall due to staff shortage and parts not being available. This has been persisting for over 4 years. Chrysler does not make a good faith effort to address these recalls. Most recently, we had an appointment and they (Spring Autonation in Spring, TX) told us that they would have to hold the car for weeks before being able to get to it due to shortage of staff as they only have two service members who can address it. Helfman Dodge said they holding time would be 3-4 weeks before being able to get to it. Teh reminders for the three recalls are coming from the dealerships, and yet they are not able to address them.

While driving the car down a busy 4 lane road at 55mph on [XXX] around [XXX] in Irvine, CA, the car began to shake as the steering locked up and alerts came up on the dash that the power steering had failed. After turning the car off and on it did not fix it. Leaving it off for 15 mins seemed to make the error go away. We had it towed to Tustin Tuttle Chrysler dealership for service. The dealership found the fault code in the log, it was a power steering control failure. They could not replicate the circumstance and insist on releasing the car as safe to drive; putting my family and the public at great risk. The dealership refuse to even run diagnostics on the faulty identified part. They said if they cannot recreate the problem they won’t fix it, even though they see the error code on their scanner. They shouldn’t be telling me the car is safe when it is clearly not. They only drove it 30 miles and did not check wiring or even pop the hood. They have done no work to deem it safe and this is fraud. Rochelle, the service manager, has told us over the phone that she will not work on the car, because she believes she will not be reimbursed for the work. She has said she has had the car for too long and wants it picked up. Her service advisor Erik, has read us the codes found over the phone and also told us that no one has worked on it and only has test driven it. Our greatest concern is the dealership is not servicing or repairing vehicles and putting very dangerous cars on the

Van engine failed during driving. This is a known issue by Chrysler and they will not repair the underlying problem - this is related to a prior recall. Instead, it only suggested replacing the battery which is a temporary fix. Separately, this van has a pending recall due to a fire risk. Unable to use the plug-in hybrid function of the van nor park it in a garage due to the recall issue. It has been almost four months since the recall notice without any news of when Chrysler will fix this problem. I requested a buy back due to the inherent risk of severe injury from simply being inside this van but was denied.

Chrysler issued recall 72B back in July but has failed to provide a repair solution to the issue of a high voltage battery fire. They have advised to park the vehicle away from structures and to not charge. It's disappointing not to have a resolution or fix for this issue, especially going into the colder months and not being able to use the vehicle as intended.

On [XXX] around 12:00 PM, while traveling northbound in the HOV lane at 70 MPH on [XXX] near [XXX] , with two small children in the passenger row and two adults in the front, the following error suddenly appeared on the dashboard: "Stop Safely -- Vehicle Will Shut Off Soon." Power to the engine stopped as a result and the car coasted. A "red turtle" warning and a "Check Engine" error also displayed. No other errors, unfamiliar sounds, or mechanical noises preceded these errors, nor had there been any other recent problems with the car. We pulled over to the shoulder immediately and turned the car off for approximately 5 minutes to see whether the errors would persist. With the "Stop Safely" error no longer on the dashboard, we turned the car on again and drove it to the dealership. On that drive, the previous errors appeared a second time. The dealership, Carl Burger Dodge Chrysler Jeep RAM World (La Mesa CA), has confirmed that the transmission needs to be replaced and that it is unsafe to drive the vehicle until the transmission is replaced. On August 30, 2024, the dealership said that they are waiting for Stellantis to release the transmission and "that won't happen any time soon." As of today, September 2, 2024, Carl Burger has failed to provide a timeline for the replacement and have informed us that we must deal with Stellantis in order to get the case escalated and the car repaired. The contact turned off and restarted the vehicle, and only the check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact was able to drive to her destination. The contact had previously received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V010000 (Electrical System, Hybrid Propulsion System) and the recall repair was completed at a local dealer. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a local dealer or independent mechanic for the recent failure. The vehicle was diagnosed and was not repaired. We had put a ladder on the roof of our van to return to Home Depot, and I opened our rear gate. I didn't know it at the time, but the van's rear gate could not open all the way at the top because of the ladder, which hung a few inches over the top of the gate. Because I didn't know the ladder was in the way, when the rear gate opened, I bent over inside the van with my small dog to put her in her crate. Immediately, I heard the warning beeper start to go off, but before I could move out of the way, the gate came zooming down fast on my head and I had to squeeze to the size and fell into my driveway bushes trying to get out of the way. Thankfully, neither I nor my dog were harmed, but we could have both been seriously injured or killed. I have no idea why a rear gate would descend so fast or not sense that I and my dog were present.

While driving down the road at approximately 45 mph, the car suddenly shut down with no power. The display said there was a charging error and to put the vehicle in park. I parked the vehicle on the shoulder, turned it off, and restarted. The engine started and I drove off, but 5 minutes later it suddenly shut off once again. I repeated this process 2 times until the final time, the vehicle would not restart, and we were stranded on the shoulder of a busy road in icy conditions. A mechanic ran a diagnostic on the vehicle and there are no error codes, but it will not start and says there is a charging error, even though it is not plugged in. On Dec 5th, as I was driving downhill on Hwy 54 in Peachtree City, GA, the van jerked, made a beeping noise, and the dash lit up. The van had completely shut off. It said "service charging system" and "shift to park". I was able to get the van off the roadway and into a parking lot by coasting. Despite turning it off, it kept turning back on with the ac on full blast. It finally stopped turning back on after I opened the driver door and left it open. It restarted and my husband drove it home. I called Chrysler when I got home. They said to call the local dealership to get recall fixed and have them look at the engine. I called the dealership first thing the next morning. He said the first available appointment would be Dec 28th. They no longer have a loaner program so I had to contact Chrysler cares back regarding rental. I sent them a message asking about a rental. They recommended I try to find an appt at another dealership. They also stated they couldn't speak to if it was safe to drive the van until seen at the dealership. On Friday Dec 9, I had to use the van. It stalled 5 times. I was able to get it off the roadway and restarted immediately. I contacted Chrysler again to request they contact the dealer to try to get me in sooner and they need to provide me a rental. This is a huge safety concern, and this is an issue that has been impacting their vans for a long time now. Very LOUD metallic clanking noise while driving 40-50 mph coming from front left wheel. When I inspected it, I saw that the front left wheel bearing hub mounting bolt had backed out of the hub and steering knuckle and onto the CV shaft end, which is what caused the clanking. I have photos of this damage. Vehicle is 3 years old and has 46,000 miles on it. I believe it should be obvious why wheel bearing hub mounting bolts backing out on their own is quite dangerous. This problem has not been confirmed by my local dealer. The manufacturer has not been made aware of this problem. There was no warning sign that this would occur. It happened spontaneously while driving this morning.

On two occasions, my Pacifica Hybrid van lost electrical power and stalled while driving at high speed on the highway. In each case I was able to safely coast the vehicle over to a breakdown lane but the experiences were terrifying for my family and I. After stalling the vehicle remained frozen in a strange electrical system status and would not restart. Eventually I was able to get the system to restart by pulling and replacing fuses. To do this in a narrow breakdown lane while semi trucks are flying by at high speed was, again, terrifying.

On rare occasion, but enough to be concerning, the rear backup camera image will not remove from the screen after putting the van in Drive from Reverse. The last image will freeze on the screen and nothing can be done to clear the screen but stop the vehicle, turn it off fully, and then restart. Not only is it confusing to the driver to still see a non-realtime image of the back of the vehicle, any and all controls are locked out from the main infotainment screen. This has not be replicated at the dealer as it's unpredictable and somewhat infrequent. But given that there are times a full reboot of the van aren't possible (highway driving), this could be a major safety issue. No warnings are given or report from the vehicle.

LANE SENSE BEHAVES ERRATICALLY IN CERTAIN CIRCUMSTANCES; ALERTS LOUDLY AND REQUEST HANDS BE PLACED ON THE STEERING WHEEL WHEN THEY ARE ALREADY ON THE WHEEL AND AM TRAVELING SAFELY WITHIN A LANE; NO LANE CHANGES. HAS ALERTED IN DRIVEWAY AS WELL AND ALERTED FOR SERVICE. TOOK TO DEALER AND THEY COULD NOT REPLICATED OR DETERMINE PROBLEM. THEY PROVIDED INFORMATIONAL FLYER ON LANE SENSE BUT IT DOES NOT MATCH REPORTED CONDITIONS/ALERTS I RECEIVED ON AUTO'S CONSOLE. CONSISTENTLY FAILS AND BEHAVES ERRATICALLY GOING NORTHBOUND ON GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE - IN ALL LANES AND ON MULTIPLE OCCURRENCES. OCCURS IN VARIOUS ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS FROM FOG, CLEAR DAY, RAIN, ETC. OCCURS IN MOTION AND WHEN CAR HAS BEEN STILL/STOPPED (IN DRIVEWAY.) SYSTEM ALERTS AND THEN AUTOMATICALLY DEACTIVATES ITSELF. I DON'T KNOW THAT MANUFACTURER AND DEALERS HAVE FULL UNDERSTANDING OF BEHAVIOR; ESPECIALLY THE DETECTION OF WHAT THE CAR BELIEVES ARE NO HANDS ON THE STEERING WHEEL/FEEDBACK TORQUE.

PACIFICA HYBRID, TWO INCIDENTS: FIRST WAS ON FREEWAY, FAST LANE, DRIVING NORMALLY WITH ACTIVE CRUISE CONTROL. THE CAR SUDDENLY SHUT DOWN ALL ACCELERATION AND SLOWED. I WAS ABLE TO PRESS THE BRAKE AND STOP. THE FRONT CONSOLE LIT UP WITH MANY WARNINGS INCLUDING THE FRONTAL COLLISION WARNINGS. I WAS NOT CLOSE TO CAR IN FRONT OF ME BUT A MOTORCYCLE HAD SPLIT LANE PASSED ME VERY CLOSELY AND CUT IN. I HAD TO POWER OFF MY CAR AND START IT TWICE BEFORE IT WOULD GO FORWARD. I TOOK CAR FOR SERVICE, CHRYSLER DEALER FOUND NOTHING WRONG, REPLACED A COMPUTER MODULE, GAVE IT BACK. LESS THAN ONE WEEK LATER, THE CAR AGAIN SUDDENLY LOST ACCELERATION AND BRAKED. SAME LARGE SET OF WARNINGS APPEARED. BUT THIS TIME THE CAR DIDN'T ALLOW ME TO PRESS THE BRAKES. I WAS TRAVELING ON CITY STREETS LESS THAN 30 MPH BUT HAD LOST ALL ACCELERATION AND BRAKING CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND CONTINUED TO ROLL INTO AN INTERSECTION AT ABOUT 7MPH. THE BRAKE PEDAL LITERALLY PUSHED BACK AGAINST MY FOOT. I GAVE IT BACK TO CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP WHERE IT'S BEEN EVER SINCE. CAR HAS 1100 MILES ON IT PURCHASED JULY 14TH, REGISTRATION ON 7/16. APPROXIMATELY 300 MILES OF THE CAR WAS THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT TRYING TO REPLICATE THE ISSUE. NOW CHRYSLER CORPORATE CARES IS TELLING ME IT'S STILL UNDER DIAGNOSIS (CAR HASN'T EVEN BEEN TURNED ON IN MORE THAN 10 DAYS) AND THAT THE ONLY WAY I WOULD GET RESOLUTION IS THROUGH ARBITRATION "A FREE SERVICE". MY VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY WAITING FOR CHRYSLER STAR (HIGHEST LEVEL ENGINEERING)

THE HANDS-FREE AND BLUETOOTH FEATURE OF MY RADIO STOPPED WORKING 3 MONTHS AGO. I HAVE BEEN IN TO CHRYSLER SERVICE IN FORT COLLINS FIVE TIMES TO HAVE IT FIXED. THE LAST TIME WAS TWO WEEKS AGO AND THEY SAID THEY WERE GOING TO JUST ORDER A NEW RADIO. I STILL HAVEN'T HEARD ANYTHING FROM THEM. THE SERVICE MANAGER, BOB LEE, SAYS IT'S CHRYSLER'S FAULT. I JUST WANT THIS THING FIXED. 3 MONTHS IS JUST RIDICULOUS. THIS IS AS MUCH A SAFETY PROBLEM AS IT IS AN INCONVENIENCE.

No unusual pattern of severe incidents in the complaint record.
Complaint counts track how many cars were sold and how long they have been on the road as much as they track quality. A common model from 2013 has had a decade to accumulate reports; a rare one from last year has not. The signal worth weighing is in the severity columns, in whether the same component keeps appearing, and in whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
Recall repairs are free for as long as the recall stands. Check whether a specific car still has open work at NHTSA's VIN lookup.
