Part 573 reports
Tires21V115000
Filed Feb 25, 202133,838 vehiclesGeneral Motors, Llc

Defect. General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2020 Buick Enclave, Cadillac XT4, XT5, Escalade, Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Suburban, Tahoe, Traverse, GMC Yukon, Yukon XL, 2018-2021 Chevrolet Express, GMC Savana, 2019-2020 Chevrolet Blazer, Silverado 1500, GMC Acadia, Sierra 1500, and certain Continental tires sold to the aftermarket for various model year 2018-2021 vehicles. The affected tires were cured for too long during production.

Risk. Over cured tires may develop a break in the sidewall resulting in sudden air loss or a belt edge separation which could lead to a tread/belt loss. Either condition can cause a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy. GM will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the tires, replacing them as necessary, free of charge. The recall began March 22, 2021. Owners may contact GMC customer service at 1-888-988-7267, Buick customer service at 1-866-608-8080, Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 or Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006. GM's number for this recall is N212329050.

Filed Sep 6, 201991,399 vehiclesGeneral Motors Llc

Defect. General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2019 Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana vehicles. The seatbelt-unfastened warning light will not illuminate for approximately five seconds after the ignition is moved to the "on" or "start" position. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 208, "Occupant Crash Protection."

Risk. Without the seatbelt warning reminder, the driver may forget to fasten the seatbelt, increasing the risk of injury in the event of a crash.

Remedy. GM will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the instrument panel cluster, free of charge. The recall began October 3, 2019. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-630-2438 or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is N192264500.

The affected monitors may revert back to the factory default settings which may cause the camera image to be reversed.

Risk. The driver may inadvertently turn the wrong direction to avoid an object behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy. Unicell will work with ASA Electronics to notify owners and offer a remedy, free of charge. The recall began May 9, 2019. Owners may contact ASA Electronics customer service 1-800-384-4400 or Unicell at 1-716-853-8628.

Risk. Tempered glass increases the risk of injury in the event of a side impact or rollover crash.

The OTA had the interstate lanes bottle necked down. Traffic was trying to merge. The van had already slowed down and moved into the thru lane closest to the median. The van was pushed off the road by a semi into the contrete barrier. The semi clipped the bumper on the front passenger's side. It was also hit on the driver's side rear bumper. All of this caused the van to hit the wall on the front driver's corner. The airbags did not deploy! The driver was slammed into the steering wheel hitting his face against it. He suffered several facial fractures which required surgical repair. He now has plates holding the orbital socket, cheek bone, and jaw. The fracture in front of the ear was not plated. The highway patrol was called to the scene. The van will soon be released to the insurance company for claims inspection. We believe it to be totaled

The contact owns a 2019 Chevrolet Express NAV. The motorhome is a 2020 Coachman Freelander. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, during the night and in the rain, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended while depressing the accelerator pedal and jerked violently. The contact jolted violently and was almost thrown off the driver's seat. The contact pulled to the side of the road. Once the vehicle was on the side of the road, the contact noticed white smoke or steam emitting from the rear of the vehicle. The contact was able to continue driving. The vehicle was towed to an independent RV mechanic who diagnosed that the entire front and rear end were damaged: brake springs, brake rotors, brake lines, and brake pads. The vehicle was repaired. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V702000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC). The contact notified the manufacturer about the loss, and the manufacturer refused to complete the recall since the vehicle was never taken to a dealer. The contact stated that none of the dealers accepted the vehicle since no lifts were available that could hold that much weight. The contact applied for reimbursement, and the manufacturer declined. The failure mileage was approximately 6,000.

I am reporting a recurring transmission defect in my 2019 Chevy Express Cargo Van. Shortly after purchase, I noticed clunking sounds when slowing down or coming to a stop. The issue progressed into rough shifting and eventual check engine lights with codes P0722 and P0700. The dealership stated the valve body had already been replaced in 2020 and suspects the torque converter is the root cause, which is causing repeated valve body failures. These transmission failures create unsafe driving conditions, including loss of smooth deceleration and unpredictable shifting behavior. I believe this is a design flaw affecting the Hydra-Matic transmission system and may qualify as a safety risk. There are multiple class action lawsuits currently pending regarding GM’s 8-speed transmissions (Speerly v. GM; Battle v. GM), and many consumers are reporting similar symptoms.

Reading this record

No unusual pattern of severe incidents in the complaint record.

Complaint counts track how many cars were sold and how long they have been on the road as much as they track quality. A common model from 2013 has had a decade to accumulate reports; a rare one from last year has not. The signal worth weighing is in the severity columns, in whether the same component keeps appearing, and in whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.

Recall repairs are free for as long as the recall stands. Check whether a specific car still has open work at NHTSA's VIN lookup.
