2019 Mercedes-Benz Metris

Defect. Daimler Vans USA, LLC (DVUSA) is recalling certain 2019-2021 Freightliner Sprinter, Mercedes-Benz Metris, and Mercedes-Benz Sprinter vehicles. An error in the communication module's SIM card software can cause a mobile network connection failure, disabling the emergency call (eCall) system.

Risk. A disabled eCall system would prevent a vehicle occupant from contacting the emergency services call center in an emergency, potentially delaying emergency responders and increasing the risk of injury.

Remedy. The communication module software will be updated through an Over-the-Air (OTA) update, or by a dealer, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed October 13, 2022. Owners may contact DVUSA at 1-877-762-8267. DVUSA's number for this recall is VS2SIMKOM/VS3SIMKOM.

Defect. Daimler Vans USA, LLC (DVUSA) is recalling certain 2017-2022 Mercedes-Benz Metris vehicles. The connection of the upper and lower fuel hoses to the engine may be insecure, which can result in a fuel leak.

Risk. A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source can increase the risk of a fire.

Remedy. Dealers will inspect and repair the fuel hose connections, and replace the clamps and fuel hose, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed May 5, 2022. Owners may contact DVUSA customer service at 1-877-762-8267. DVUSA's number for this recall is VS2KRAUCH.

Defect. Daimler Vans USA, LLC (DVUSA) is recalling certain 2016-2021 Mercedes-Benz Metris vehicles. The brake fluid reservoir may be incorrectly mounted, which can allow it to detach.

Risk. A detached brake fluid reservoir can leak brake fluid, increasing the risk of a crash.

Defect. Daimler Vans USA, LLC (DVUSA) is recalling certain 2016-2020 Mercedes-Benz Metris and 2019-2020 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter vehicles. The software design of the communication module may fail to communicate the correct vehicle location for the emergency call system (eCall) in the event of a crash.

Risk. Failure of the eCall system may result in emergency responders being dispatched to the wrong location, increasing the risk of injury following a crash.

Defect. Daimler Vans USA, LLC (DVUSA) is recalling certain 2019-2020 Mercedes-Benz Metris right-hand drive vehicles. The screwed fittings between the rigid steel brake lines routed through the underbody of the vehicle and the brake hoses in the area of the front and rear axles may not have been correctly installed.

Risk. The connection between the brake line and the brake hose may leak, causing a sudden loss of brake fluids, impacting braking performance and increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy. DVUSA will notify owners, and dealers will check the affected fittings at the connection points of the brake lines to the brake hoses, correcting them as necessary, free of charge. Defect. Daimler Vans USA, LLC (DVUSA) is recalling certain 2019 Metris vans [platform 447 (VS20)] with gasoline engines and automatic transmissions. The driveshaft may not be attached to the intermediate bearing correctly, causing excessive wear to the driveshaft joint and excessive vibrations.

Risk. Damage to the driveshaft joint could result in a loss of drive, increasing the risk of a crash. Excessive vibrations may cause the frontal air bags to deploy unexpectedly, increasing the risk of injury.

Remedy. DVUSA will notify owners and dealers will inspect the drive shaft, replacing it as necessary, free of charge. This recall began August 11, 2020. Owners may contact DVUSA customer service at 1-877-762-8267. DVUSA's number for this recall is VS3DREIGE.

Defect. Daimler Vans USA, LLC (DVUSA) is recalling certain 2016-2019 Mercedes-Benz Metris vehicles. The integrated backup battery compartment located underneath the front passenger's seat may not have its own cover, potentially exposing the battery when the seat is moved forward.

Risk. If conductive material, such as metal, unintentionally drops into the opening and contacts the terminals on the battery, an electrical short can occur, increasing the risk of a fire.

Remedy. DVUSA will notify owners, and Mercedes-Benz dealers will install covers over the battery compartment area, free of charge. DVUSA issued owners an interim notification on December 2, 2019. Defect. Daimler Vans USA, LLC (DVUSA) is recalling certain 2018-2019 Sprinter and Metris vehicles. The vehicles left the reassembly plant without the final quality inspection of safety-relevant parts or bolt connections, resulting in possible unknown safety risks.

Risk. Failure to identify loose safety related parts can increase the risk of crash and injury.

Remedy. DVUSA will notify owners, and vehicles will be returned to the reassembly plant for comprehensive inspection and, if necessary, corrective action, free of charge. Defect. Daimler Vans USA, LLC (DVUSA) is recalling certain 2019 Metris vehicles. The head restraint of the seat or seat back may have been fitted without a spring pin or a spring pin that was improperly mounted.

Risk. The incorrectly mounted or missing spring pins can cause the upholstery carrier to come loose from the head restraint housing, which increases the risk of an injury in the event of a crash.

Remedy. DVUSA will notify owners, and Mercedes-Benz dealers will replace the head restraints, free of charge. DVUSA issued owners an interim notification on November 4, 2019. Defect. Daimler Vans USA, LLC (DVUSA) is recalling certain 2019 Mercedes-Benz Metris vehicles. The vehicles may have been delivered with a printed operator's manual that does not match the vehicle's features and operating instructions.

Risk. The incorrect manual may not describe the proper operation of the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy. DVUSA will notify owners, and dealers will replace the information package including the printed version of the operator's manual, maintenance booklet and information sheets, free of charge. My 2019 Mercedes-Benz Metris, with approximately 78,000 miles, developed a check-engine light and diagnostic code P052E/P052E71 for a failure involving the positive crankcase ventilation/crankcase ventilation regulator system. I was advised that the repair will cost approximately $3,000 because the failed ventilation component is part of a larger assembly. I am concerned because Mercedes-Benz has acknowledged this same P052E71 crankcase ventilation failure on other Mercedes-Benz models equipped with the M274 engine and has provided extended warranty coverage on certain vehicles. My Metris also uses the M274 engine, but Mercedes-Benz has excluded the Metris from that extended coverage. I have also learned that other Metris owners have reported the same P052E/P052E71 failure. I am filing this complaint because I believe this may be a recurring defect in the crankcase ventilation system on M274-equipped Mercedes-Benz Metris vehicles and should be investigated to determine whether these vans should have received the same repair coverage or corrective action as other affected Mercedes-Benz vehicles.

A check engine light on a Mercedes-Benz Metris, accompanied by a P052E code, often indicates a problem with the Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) system, specifically the PCV regulator valve or its associated components. This code signals that the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) has detected an issue with the crankcase pressure, suggesting a malfunction in the PCV system's ability to regulate pressure.

The pressure relief valve part on our Mercedes van is causing a check engine light to go off with code P052E. It's a known issue on several MB models (GLB, C300, etc.) that this original part wears out and can potentially cause an under-hood fire if oil gets clogged up in the components. To my knowledge there is no routine maintenance that we missed that would be causing this issue. MB has since released a new style of PCV part with insulation wrapped around the hose to prevent condensation build up. It's not possible to get the original stye of that part that is installed on our van anymore because Mercedes knows the part is poorly constructed and will fail. It's a costly and laborious repair (5-7 hrs), yet it seems like they already know it's a widespread and serious safety issue, however there is no recall on it on the 2019 Mercedes Metris as of now.

The contact owns a 2019 Mercedes Benz Metris equipped with Hankook Tires, Tire Line: Ventus S1 Noble, Tire Size: 225/55/R17, DOT Number: (N/A). The contact stated that while driving approximately 70 MPH, the rear driver's side tire experienced a blowout. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who replaced the tire. The contact stated that all the original tires on the vehicle were replaced due to premature treadwear. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 23,000.

This recall was issued on July 7, 2022, nearly 6 months ago. The recall involves a sticker. This vehicle is rented out on Turo. Turo delisted this vehicle due to this open recall costing us over $1,000 in lost rental income for our business. Payments on this van are nearly $800/month. This is causing enormous financial pressure on our business with no end in sight. We do not believe it should take 6+ months to replace a sticker. Additionally, the VIN plate on this van is nothing more than a sticker on the dashboard. The VIN plate was damaged when the windshield was replaced last July. Now we cannot even sell this van. It is taking forever for MB to provide a new VIN plate to the glass replacement company.

THIS VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH ELECTRONICS STABILITY CONTROL (ESC) WHICH INCLUDES CROSSWIND ASSIST. THE CROSSWIND ASSIST IS THE SOURCE OF THE SAFETY PROBLEM. The crosswind assist will engage in strong crosswinds and in certain road conditions such as a dip in the road or an off camber dip it immediately brake one side or the other causing the vehicle to quickly and unexpectedly lurch to one side or the other. I've experienced this multiple times and it has the potential for causing serious accidents. I communicated this complaint to my Mercedes service tech. It is a known problem on both Metris and Sprinter vans. It cannot be disabled from ESC. I was shocked to find out this has been reported to Mercedes multiple times and there has been no corrective action. If this defect has not killed anyone yet (that we know of) it certainly will. Even though there are not that many Merceds vans on the road in the US this problem is very serious and needs to be addressed quickly. Please update me on this problem as soon as possible. I am very uncomfortable driving this vehicle in its current condition.
