NHTSA campaign 19V666000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Daimler Vans USA, LLC: Seats › Front Assembly › Head Restraint

Daimler Vans USA, LLC reported this defect to federal regulators on Sep 18, 2019 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 29. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Daimler Vans USA, LLC (DVUSA) is recalling certain 2019 Metris vehicles. The head restraint of the seat or seat back may have been fitted without a spring pin or a spring pin that was improperly mounted.

The risk

The incorrectly mounted or missing spring pins can cause the upholstery carrier to come loose from the head restraint housing, which increases the risk of an injury in the event of a crash.

The remedy

DVUSA will notify owners, and Mercedes-Benz dealers will replace the head restraints, free of charge. DVUSA issued owners an interim notification on November 4, 2019. The recall began April 20, 2020. Owners may contact DVUSA customer service at 1-877-762-8267. D VUSA's number for this recall is VS2KOPFSTU.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 19V666000.
