Daimler Vans USA, LLC: Service Brakes, Hydraulic › Foundation Components › Hoses, Lines/Piping, and Fittings

Daimler Vans USA, LLC reported this defect to federal regulators on Nov 24, 2020 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 562. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Daimler Vans USA, LLC (DVUSA) is recalling certain 2019-2020 Mercedes-Benz Metris right-hand drive vehicles. The screwed fittings between the rigid steel brake lines routed through the underbody of the vehicle and the brake hoses in the area of the front and rear axles may not have been correctly installed.

The risk

The connection between the brake line and the brake hose may leak, causing a sudden loss of brake fluids, impacting braking performance and increasing the risk of a crash.

The remedy

DVUSA will notify owners, and dealers will check the affected fittings at the connection points of the brake lines to the brake hoses, correcting them as necessary, free of charge. The recall began December 10, 2020. Owners may contact DVUSA customer service at 1-877-762-8267. DVUSA's number for this recall is VS2BREMPOS.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 20V729000.
