2022 Volkswagen Tiguan

Defect. Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain 2022-2024 Tiguan, 2023 Arteon, and 2024-2025 Audi Q3 vehicles. An error may occur in the camera control unit at vehicle startup, resulting in the rearview camera image not displaying as intended. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, "Rear Visibility."

Risk. A rearview camera that does not display an image can reduce the driver's rear view, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy. Dealers will update the camera control unit software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed to Audi owners April 3, 2024, and Volkswagen owners November 18, 2025.Volkswagen owners will receive a second notice once remedy parts become available. Defect. Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain 2021 Golf GTI, Jetta GLI, Jetta NF, Arteon FL, Tiguan LWB, 2022 Taos, Jetta PA, Tiguan PA, 2021-2022 Atlas Cross Sport, and Atlas FL vehicles. The manufacturing process of the eMMC memory module in the infotainment system may cause the rearview camera image not to display. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, "Rear Visibility."

Risk. A rearview camera that does not display an image reduces the driver's rear view, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy. Dealers will update the infotainment software, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed September 16, 2022. Owners may contact Volkswagen's customer service at 1-800-893-5298. Volkswagen's number for this recall is 91DV.

Defect. Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain 2022 Tiguan and 2018-2021 Tiguan long wheel base (LWB) vehicles. Due to incorrect installation instructions, the accessory rear hatch spoiler may be insufficiently attached to the vehicle.

Risk. An insufficiently attached spoiler may separate from the vehicle, becoming a road hazard and increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy. Dealers will replace the spoiler, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed June 3, 2022. Owners may contact Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-893-5298. Volkswagen's number for this recall is 66N5.

Defect. Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain 2022 Tiguan, Taos, and 2021 Tiguan long wheel base (LWB) vehicles. A second notice will be sent once remedy parts become available. The left or right rear suspension knuckles may corrode, crack, and break.

Risk. A broken rear suspension knuckle can cause a loss of stability, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy. Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace one or both rear suspension knuckles, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed June 13, 2022. Owners may contact Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-893-5298. Volkswagen's number for this recall is 42L8.

Defect. Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain 2022 Tiguan vehicles. The nut that secures the brake pipe near the right-front wheel well may be loose.

Risk. A loose brake pipe nut may allow brake fluid to leak, extending the distance required to stop and increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy. Dealers will inspect and tighten the brake pipe nut, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed November 23, 2021. Owners may contact Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-893-5298. Volkswagen's number for this recall is 19Q4.

2022 VW Tiguan, VIN [XXX], 54,953 mi. Infotainment screen went black; because the rearview camera image displays only on that screen, the backup camera is completely inoperative in reverse. Failure is constant. I replaced a blown #20 fuse and attempted a hard restart with no result. XXX, Volkswagen of [XXX] [XXX]: tech found DTC in ECM stating no communication with 5F module (infotainment control unit); VW guided test plan directs replacement of the 5F module. Quoted $501.54. Dealer stated this is a known issue and multiple customers there are waiting on the same backordered part. VW has already recalled 2022 Tiguans for this component and this consequence. Campaign 22V-514 ([XXX]): infotainment memory module defect causing rearview camera image not to display, certified by VW as an FMVSS 111 noncompliance. Campaign 25V-082: 2022-24 Tiguan camera control unit error, same loss of camera display. NHTSA VIN lookup on XXX shows no open recalls; my vehicle was included in neither campaign and no remedy has ever been applied. My vehicle has the identical failure (same model year, platform, component, and loss of rear visibility) as the recalled population. The dealer's statement that multiple customers await the same part indicates the defect population extends beyond the recalled VINs. Travel assist currently unavailable warning goes off frequently in 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan SE-R Line creating a loud repetitive dinging noise which is very distracting and alarming while driving, thus causing a safety issue. This occurs even when not using travel assist features and there is no way for the consumer to disable the travel assist to prevent the warning from occurring. This has been an ongoing issue since purchasing the vehicle in May 2022 and has been reported to the local Volkswagen dealership multiple times with no acknowledgement of the issue or offer to repair while the vehicle was under warranty. I have recently discovered that Volkswagen issued a Technical Service Bulletin for dealerships in May 2023 under (TSB) 2070207/1 (also known as TSB 48-23-01). It is a known issue to Volkswagen and they have failed to issue a recall or properly train their dealerships about the issuance of the Technical Service Bulletin to appropriately repair while covered under warranty.

My vehicle was parked on my worksite and when I can out to check a truck in. I noticed my windows looked tinted and when I went to investigate my vehicle was on fire or smoking badly and I closed the door and call [XXX]. This was a very traumatic experience for me considering I had only purchased the vehicle from the dealership on the 18th and had recently been training one of my kids for driving lessons. While I am grateful that me or my family where not physically injured it is unacceptable that both the manufacturer and dealership knowingly put both me and my family in harms way and I expect to be compensated for this preventable traumatic experience we've endured due to no fault of ours. EPC light kicks on which is puts your car in limp mode, which is caused by a cylinder head issue. The EPC limits your car acceleration and speed ability, this is extremely dangerous especially on the highway. It’s been a year & Volkswagen is refusing to take responsibility and offer a recall when it’s an ongoing issue with 2021-2022 Volkswagen Tiguans. The cylinder heads have been on back order for a year. This is an issue I believe that needs a nation wide investigation & recall for customers.

I own a 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan that has experienced ongoing excessive oil consumption. At approximately 60,000 miles, the vehicle experienced a much more serious incident. While traveling approximately 75 mph on the interstate, the vehicle began actively spraying engine oil, covering the exterior of the vehicle. A warning light then appeared instructing me to check the engine oil level. I was able to exit the interstate and pull into a gas station. Once parked, the vehicle was leaking an excessive amount of oil onto the concrete underneath it. I contacted the dealership, and they immediately understood the issue because they had seen the same problem occur in other Volkswagen Tiguans. I am concerned that the sudden and substantial loss of engine oil while traveling approximately 75 mph presents a serious safety risk. This type of failure could potentially cause catastrophic engine damage or engine failure at highway speeds, leaving the vehicle disabled in active traffic. I am also concerned about the possibility of oil contacting hot engine components and creating a fire hazard. This incident is especially concerning given the vehicle's prior history of excessive oil consumption and the dealership's statement that they had encountered the same issue in other Volkswagen Tiguans. I am concerned there may be an underlying defect involving the engine or oil system. Description of Defect: The central MIB3 infotainment touchscreen on my 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan has suffered a complete blackout and is entirely unresponsive. This system has already been repaired and replaced over three once under warranty for infotainment failures over three years ago. The issue has returned, causing a total loss of the backup camera, and safety menus controls. Safety Risk Involved: When the touchscreen fails or goes black, it causes an immediate loss of critical vehicle functions. I lose access to the backup camera display while reversing, and I am entirely unable to adjust vehicle safety assistance menus. This total loss of visibility and vehicle safety controls creates an immediate driving hazard and distraction.

Oil consumption/ needs to replace cylinder head

I got this car in 2024 and it burns through oil. I am constantly replacing the oil and have had to have the seals replaced a couple of times. Every 200 to 300 miles I have to put oil in it. It’s too new of a car for that. I know a lot of other owners have had issues.

Consuming too much oil and only getting worse. Have to add 1 qt of oil around every 400 miles. Worried that all the burning could cause a vehicle fire

I'm experiencing a persistent Travel Assistant is not available dash light and warning beep on a repeated basis. I have taken this into the VW dealer and the did a factory reset to address the problem and that did not resolve the issue. There is a know widespread problem with several 2022 models that can be found when searching the problem. VW has issued a Technical Service Bulletin to dealers (TSB 48-23-01) so they are aware of the problem. The warning is very distracting and often chimes multiple times in a row, last experience it went off approximately 20 times in one mile.

According to the report I received from Nucar in Tilton NH, my 5F module for the infotainment system is not working after an OTA update. Navigation, volume, road sign assistance (speed limit signs), bluetooth sound, seat memory, etc .. I had to pay $700 to have them look at the car and they did not fix it. Now My estimate for repair is $1700 ... This car has 68501 miles .. just over 60K - this is not an abuse failure - it is a product failure. There are many reports online indicating multiple model years with this issue. I am not sure what this report will do but I hope it supports fixing these expensive cars which break before you can pay them off.

My 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan has an ongoing excessive oil consumption problem that began in April 2025 when the low oil warning illuminated. I added approximately one quart of oil and contacted the Volkswagen dealership. The dealership instructed me not to add oil myself if the warning returned and to bring the vehicle in for evaluation. On May 12, 2025, I brought the vehicle to the Volkswagen dealership and an oil consumption test was performed. The problem continued. I returned the vehicle on July 25, 2025, and a second oil consumption test was performed. The dealership subsequently replaced the PCV valve in the engine in an attempt to correct the oil consumption problem. On August 25, 2026, the check oil warning illuminated again, indicating that the problem has continued despite two oil consumption tests and replacement of the PCV valve. The dealership is now requesting that I bring the vehicle back for a third oil consumption test. The vehicle has repeatedly been made available to the Volkswagen dealership for inspection and repair. Each time it is taken in for this problem, the dealership keeps the vehicle for approximately one week, and there has been little communication regarding the status of the vehicle unless I contact the dealership myself. I am concerned that the underlying cause of the excessive oil consumption remains unresolved despite repeated testing and an attempted repair. For multiple weeks, my vehicle's Travel Assist/driver-assistance system has repeatedly malfunctioned. The problem began after the vehicle was returned to me by the dealership following service related to an ongoing oil-consumption issue. Since receiving the vehicle back, the "Travel Assist currently not available" warning and associated warning indicators activate repeatedly during virtually every drive. The warning is accompanied by an audible alert/beeping and may occur multiple times during a single trip. The repeated alerts are distracting while driving and create a safety concern. The warnings occur even when I am not actively using Travel Assist or the driver-assistance system. They have occurred while the vehicle is completely stopped as well as while I am driving normally within my lane without crossing the lane markings. The system appears to activate warnings unpredictably and without any corresponding action by the driver. Because this involves a driver-assistance/safety system, I am concerned that the system may not function properly or be available when it is actually needed. The unpredictable and repeated audible warnings also divert the driver's attention from the roadway. This malfunction has continued consistently for several weeks across multiple trips. Phantom braking, 2nd time in last 3 months

2022 VW Tiguan SE had PCV (positive crankshaft ventilation) also known as air-oil separator failed just outside of warranty creating a pressure cooker like effect in the engine which caused several seals and hoses, (such as the upper/front timing cover gaskets, rear main seal, and valve stem seals) to fail. The oil pan gasket was also destroyed. Although I was fortunate enough to be able to drive from my house around the corner to my local mechanic, this could have become a dangerous scenario considering most of my driving is done on busy freeways -- this could have caused severe oil slicking, sudden loss of power, and/or total engine failure. All of which could have resulted in a fatal, multi-vehicle accident. This appears to be a relatively common incident involving this particular year and model according to a New Jersey federal case ([XXX] et al v. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? During a multipoint inspection that was earlier than advised due to multiple dashboard lights engaging, we were told that our car has an oil leak due from the timing covers and lower pan seal. They removed the oil separator and found value stem seals to be out towards the exhaust side creating an oil leak that stemmed from blown timing covers and the lower oil pan seal being the cause of the leak. The oil separator was noted as failed. This car has been brought in for every inspection and continued to have lights on post inspection that we were told regularly that they forgot just to turn off the lights but that the oil had been changed. In fact, our next oil change wasn't due until February 2027. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Our safety has been put at risk driving a car with a substantial oil leak and faulty components that only seem found after we are 8,000 over the warranty. In searching the internet, this oil valve and leak situation is common in 2022 Tiguans enough so that there are multiple threads and articles about it. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? The infotainment MIB3 system failed. Infotainment screen is completely black and non functional. This has put my family at risk because I can’t see my backup camera and have very limited visibility through rear view mirror when backing up. I also lost safety features such as rear cross traffic warning, rear auto braking, ability to see pedestrians or vehicles when backing up, and the emergency cell call system. My car also no longer can access navigation or CarPlay which makes navigation dangerous on my small phone. Failure of MIB3 infotainment brain was confirmed by VW dealer. Car is under factory warranty but part is backordered with no ETA so I’m forced to drive an unsafe car. Was denied a loaner vehicle. This failure happened 1 day after overhead console spontaneously broke and fell down from headliner. Error lights now persist on the dashboard.

The vehicle logged code P0491 due to a clogged cylinder head internal port at 28,000 miles (26,000 at the time vehicle was inspected.) Volkswagen's official repair protocol requires a complete engine cylinder head replacement. The vehicle's onboard computer has disabled the factory-installed remote start system as a result of this engine fault.

Travel Assist Not Available warning chime several times while driving. This has been back to the dealer 3 or more times, steering wheel replaced, software updates and still this along with screen blackouts, steering wheel heater coming on without prompting, audio failure, backup camera not always functioning. It is very distracting to all drivers with constant chimes and warning lights flashing across all screens.

The overhead console suddenly dropped into the passenger compartment, making the vehicle dangerous to drive: the rear view mirror view was completely blocked and the now swinging console can hit the driver's face while driving. To avoid being hit, the driver has to hold the console up with one hand while driving with only one hand. The cause appears to be the failure of multiple plastic clips holding the overhead console in place. While this appears to be a known issue with VW, they have not recalled all of the affected vehicles.
