2022 Mitsubishi Outlander

Defect. Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. (Mitsubishi) is recalling certain 2022-2024 Outlander and 2023-2025 Outlander PHEV vehicles. Due to a software error in the in-vehicle infotainment system (A-IVI), the rearview camera image may freeze, or not appear on the display. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 111, "Rear Visibility."

Risk. A rearview image that does not display properly reduces the driver's view of what is behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy. Dealers will update the A-IVI software, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed June 30, 2025. Mitsubishi's number for this recall is SR-25-001. This recall replaces and expands previous NHTSA recall number 23V345. Vehicles previously repaired under recall 23V345 will need to have the new remedy completed.

Defect. Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. (MMNA) is recalling certain 2022 Outlander vehicles. The Automatic Locking Retractor (ALR) in the right front, second-row right, and second-row left seat belt assemblies may deactivate before the seat belts are fully retracted, which can result in an unsecured child restraint system. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 208, "Occupant Crash Protection."

Risk. An unsecured child restraint system can increase the risk of injury during a crash.

Remedy. Dealers will inspect and replace the seat belt assemblies, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed July 7, 2022. Owners may contact MMNA customer service at 1-88-648-7820. MMNA's number for this recall is SR-22-002.

Defect. Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. (MMNA) is recalling certain 2022 Outlander vehicles. The commutator and wires inside the fuel pump may be fused incorrectly, potentially causing the fuel pump to fail.

Risk. Fuel pump failure can cause an engine stall, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy. Dealers will replace the fuel pump, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed March 18, 2022. Owners may contact MMNA customer service at 1-888-648-7820. MMNA's number for this recall is SR-22-001.

Defect. Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. (MMNA) is recalling one 2022 Outlander vehicle. A software programming error with a welding robot may have caused the vehicle's center pillar to be welded incorrectly. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) numbers 214, "Side Impact Protection" 210, "Seat Belt Assembly Anchorages" and 216, "Roof Crush Resistance."

Risk. In the event of a crash, the reduced strength of the vehicle body may increase the risk of injury.

Remedy. MMNA will repurchase and replace the affected vehicle, free of charge. Owners may contact MMNA customer service at 1-888-648-7820. MMNA's number for this recall is SR-21-009.

The front and second-row passenger seat belt automatic locking retractors may deactivate early, which can prevent the child restraint system from securing properly. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 208, "Occupant Crash Protection."

Risk. An unsecured child restraint system can increase the risk of injury during a crash.

Remedy. Dealers will inspect, and replace as necessary, the right front seat belt assembly, and the right and left second-row seat belt assemblies, free of charge. Strong Gas smell coming into can of car and through air vents when ideling

Since the first summer of ownership, a strong gasoline odor enters the passenger cabin. It is worst above roughly 100F ambient, a daily condition in southern [XXX], and is present while driving, while idling with the A/C on, and while the vehicle sits parked. The odor is strong enough that the vehicle cannot be parked in an attached garage in summer because fumes enter the house. A small child rides in this vehicle daily and breathes these vapors in an enclosed cabin. Repairs directed at this problem have been performed seven times since July 2023. The rear vent hose was rerouted. The fuel filler pipe was replaced under factory technical service bulletin TSB-25-17-001, fuel smell in cabin during idling, with the cause recorded as fuel smell from rear evap vent pipe positioning. The cabin filter was replaced and the A/C deodorized, the order stating the work was to help get rid of excess fuel smell from previous repair. A fuel line breather hose was ordered and later installed, the technician recording that the rear vent valve on the fuel filler neck was causing the smell in the cabin. A three-day inspection recorded no fuel smell below 90F but slight smell present after the vehicle sat in the sun at 98F. Most recently the fuel filler neck was replaced again under the bulletin with manufacturer authorization, the repair order stating CONFIRMED CONCERN, fuel smell coming from inside cabin when engine idling and A/C on. After pumping gas there is a strong smell of gasoline in the vehicle. This is a safety issue for anyone in the vehicle inhaling the fumes. It seems to get stronger when the vehicle is on (for instance at a stop light) the dealership acknowledge this was more common for the 2024 and 2025 models and only a service alert. Vehicle has been inspected by a service tech. No warning lights are on.

The front and rear backup cameras on my 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander have completely failed, leaving me with a blank, black screen. This creates a severe safety hazard when parking and reversing. My vehicle's VIN explicitly shows an active "Remedy Status: Repair Available" on the official Mitsubishi portal for safety recalls SR-25-001, SR-23-001, and SR-22-003.The local dealerships claim the recall was already completed in April. However, if the safety issue was truly and permanently fixed, the "Remedy Status" column would match and say "Completed." Instead, the manufacturer's live system explicitly says "Repair Available," proving my vehicle is legally owed the updated software fix.Despite this clear safety status, Jeremy Franklin Mitsubishi (demanding $182) and Northtowne Mitsubishi (demanding $169) are refusing to perform these safety repairs unless I pay an out-of-pocket diagnostic fee. Mitsubishi Corporate Customer Relations has also refused to stop the dealerships from imposing these illegal financial barriers on an open federal safety recall

Make and Model of my car was recalled for a faulty Fuel Pump System, however my car was never listed as being one of those recalled, my fuel has now gone out due to this and I should be able to have this repaired. Car stalled in the middle of a busy intersection, will work once jumped, battery and alternator were both tested.

While putting my car in reverse my backup camera froze and then went completely black. I have tried the hard and soft reset with no luck. You can hear the infotainment system trying to load over and over again with a black screen. While researching, I see there was a previous recall for this exact problem that required a software update which mine had right before I bought it used less than a year ago. If the update did not work or only worked temporarily, the unit had to be replaced. I’m not getting anywhere with my dealership for help. They offered to sell me a $5,000 unit or told me to buy an extended warranty for electronics, wait a month and file a claim. I find it hard to believe that this is not related to recall. I had a 13 year old Nissan pathfinder before his and my backup camera/screen was still going strong.

2 issues contributed to accident: 1st - Vehicle did not go into Park when button on gear shift was pushed. Driver did not notice that vehicle remained in Drive and exited the vehicle. 2nd - Vehicle did not automatically engage the emergency brake/park mode it is designed to do when Vehicle is in drive and driver door opens. As a result, Vehicle began to roll forward. Driver was knocked down and fell to ground and Vehicle ran over her legs, coming to a stop with the rear Driver side tire on her leg.

I’ve had it looked at twice at two different places and they don’t see anything wrong with it but when you hit bumps, especially going high rate of speed, it feels like you’re gonna lose control of the backend. When I looked online, there’s multiple people with the exact same issues and they take it in and they see that everything‘s tight and nothing’s worn out but even my daughter doesn’t like driving our car going down the highways because it feels like you’re gonna lose control. My car doesn’t even have 50,000 miles on it and I just bought it. The back end feels like it kicks out to the side.

When i drive on the interstate i noticed my hood shaking and seems like its going to fly open.

The seat belts are much slower to retract than with other cars, including our 2019 Mitsubishi Outlander we also own. My wife has had the front passenger seat belt get stuck in the door at least 3 times (likely more) which has required us to make multiple stops at the dealership to fix it. This is certainly a safety risk since the door remains partially open this certainly is something that should be recalled and fixed. Most recent day was today 5/7/26 but has happened many times.

Automatic Emergency Breaking sometimes occurs while driving in rainy weather even when there are no obstructions in the front of the vehicle. This causes spinouts and exccessive wear and tear on break pads and rotors. Also, many shops and dealerships are having issues with putting 2022 year model outlanders in "maintenance mode" to be able to change rear ebs brakes. Due to this you cannot drive your vehicle and/or rish not having proper break functions. THIS IS URGENT!!!

Good flutter at speeds above 45 mph or high winds. NTSB issued but not notified, recall should be issued as this is a safety concern, called dealer who stated a tsb was issued but I was not notified. Due to being out of manufacture warranty I will have to pay cost of hood replacement. Mitsubishi is not responding to my outreach. I first notified dealer of concern after purchase and was not informed of tsb, I was told it was safe and a design flaw.

Battery issues, car uses excessive power causing battery to fail. This has caused car to stop working completely while driving. I’ve seen several forums with the same complaints. This stalling out and loss of all electronics while driving is extremely dangerous. This has occurred multiple times since I’ve owned this vehicle.

The dealer informed the contact that the repair was not covered under the two-year warranty. The vehicle was not repaired. Additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle failed to respond intermittently while attempting to drive from a complete stop on the roadway. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the dealer for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 25,000.

The contact owns a 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander. The contact stated that while driving approximately 65-70 MPH, the hood fluttered abnormally. The vehicle was taken to the dealer twice, and the dealer test-drove the vehicle and recorded a video of the failure for the manufacturer. The contact was informed that there was no repair available at that time. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and a case was filed. The contact was informed that the hood was reinforced. The failure mileage was approximately 39,065.

The hood bounces and flutters. It is especially bad driving on the interstate. It is so much that I am scared to drive it.

This model of vehicle (2022) has a known hood flutter that cannot be repaired. It's possible the hood latch could fail and the hood will fly up/open while the vehicle is in motion. My vehicle registration acknowledges a recall but it is not for the hood flutter. I've done research and it is identified on the internet that dealerships know this hood issue exist.
