Remedy. MMNA will replace the left and right liftgate gas springs, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed October 6, 2025. Owners may contact MMNA customer service at 1-888-648-7820. MMNA's number for this recall is SR-25-002
Filed Jul 13, 2020177,000 vehiclesMitsubishi Motors North America, Inc.
Defect. Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. (MMNA) is recalling certain 2014-2019 Outlander and 2018-2019 Outlander PHEV vehicles. The second-row center seat belt buckle may interfere with the right-side seat belt buckle when the seat backs are folded down. The interference may cause the right-side seat belt buckle cover to come off, making the buckle latch inoperable and unable to restrain an occupant.
Risk. An unrestrained occupant has an increased risk of injury in the event of a crash.
Remedy. MMNA will notify owners, and dealers will modify the second-row center seat belt buckle cover, install a new warning label to the second-row seat support base, and provide a new warning label insert for the owner's manual, free of charge. The recall began September 1, 2020. Owners may contact MMNA customer service at 1-888-648-7820. Mitsubishi's number for this recall is SR-20-004.

Filed Jan 26, 2018170,354 vehiclesMitsubishi Motors North America, Inc.
Defect. Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. (MMNA) is recalling certain 2014-2016 Outlander and 2013-2016 Outlander Sport vehicles. Water may enter the rear brake calipers causing the parking brake actuator shafts to corrode and possibly bind.
Risk. If the parking brake actuator shaft binds, the parking brake may not engage or disengage fully. If the parking brake does not engage properly, the vehicle may move unexpectedly if it is parked on a slope, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy. MMNA will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the rear brake calipers and replace the parking brake boot and lever or the brake caliper body, as necessary. Dealers will also replace the piston assembly of the rear brake caliper. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall is expected to begin March 27, 2018. Owners may contact MMNA customer service at 1-888-648-7820. MMNA's number for this recall is SR-18-002.

Transmission has filled me twice now. The first time the transmission out was when the car is at approximately 42,000 miles. The first time it went out we were able to pull over safely, but it just gave out while going high speeds on the highway. The second time was luckily in my neighborhood where we were able to coast it back home. Both times not much warning was given. The first time was the one that put us and others at risk being on a road with 60+ speed limits.

I rear-ended a car after they came to a complete stop at a green light on a road with a 50mph speed limit. I attempted to stop but in the rain my car hydroplaned, and I hit them. Upon impact my seatbelt did not lock up and my airbags didn't deploy despite the fact that I was going at least 20mph. I ended up hitting the steering wheel pretty hard and still have pain, spasms, and soreness.

THE REARVIEW CAMERA SYSTEM SUDDENLY QUIT SHOWING VIDEO WHEN I PUT THE CAR IN REVERSE. THE CAMERA ITSELF STILL WORKS AS I CAN GO INTO THE SETTINGS FOR BRIGHTNESS, COLOR, ETC., THE BACK UP SENSORS STILL BEEP WHEN I AM BACKING UP AND THE REVERSE LIGHTS STILL WORK AS WELL. FROM LOOKING AT THE MITSUBISHI FORUM (HTTPS://WWW.MITSUBISHI-FORUMS.COM/THREADS/REVERSE-CAMERA-NOT-COMING-ON.72338/#POST-360974) , APPARENTLY THIS IS AN ISSUE FOR MANY PEOPLE. ONE FORUM MEMBER STATES AN ETACS CODING ENTRY CALLED 'REAR_CMR_PRST' SAYS IT IS 'NOT PRESENT.' I FEEL THIS IS MOST DEFINITELY A SAFETY ISSUE, PARTICULARLY WHEN BACKING OUT OF A PUBLIC PARKING SPOT. I REALIZE THIS IS A CONVENIENCE ITEM FOR MY YEAR OF VEHICLE (2014), BUT SINCE THE CAMERON GULBRANSEN KIDS TRANSPORTATION SAFETY ACT OF 2007 BECAME LAW AS OF MAY 1, 2018, THESE ITEMS ARE STANDARD EQUIPMENT ON ALL NEW VEHICLES. FROM READING THE FORUM, ANY REPAIRS ARE AT THE EXPENSE OF THE CONSUMER, AND MY LOCAL MITSUBISHI SHOPS HAVE NO IDEA OF WHAT IS WRONG AND HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THE PROBLEM. MANY IN THE FORUM MENTION 'VEHICLE SIGNAL CHECK' MENU, ETACS PROGRAMMING, CAN COMMUNICATIONS, CODING DATA, AND OTHER WIRING INFORMATION THE AVERAGE CONSUMER IS OBLIVIOUS OF. IF REARVIEW CAMERAS ARE REQUIRED EQUIPMENT DUE TO PASSAGE OF THE ABOVE LAW, SHOULDN'T THIS ISSUE BE A SAFETY RECALL FOR REPAIR OR REPLACEMENT OF THE DEFECT AT MANUFACTURER EXPENSE? BY THE WAY, THIS CAR HAS NEVER BEEN IN ANY ACCIDENT, HAD ANY DAMAGE DONE TO THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE AND HA

I PLACED MY CHILD IN THE CAR SEAT IN THE REAR SEAT OF THE VEHICLE. IT WAS A WARM DAY SO ONCE SHE WAS SAFELY FASTENED, I STARTED THE CAR TO RUN THE AIR CONDITIONER. IT HAS A KEYLESS START AND THE KEYS WERE IN MY POCKET. ONCE THE CAR WAS STARTED, I GOT OUT TO GO BACK TO THE BACK SEAT WITH MY DAUGHTER WHILE WE WAITED ON MY WIFE, WHO WAS STILL IN THE RESTAURANT PAYING THE BILL. WHEN I GOT OUT OF THE CAR, THE KEYS WERE STILL IN MY POCKET. I CLOSED THE DRIVER DOOR. IT STARTED BEEPING BECAUSE THE KEYS WERE NOT PRESENT (THEY WERE IN MY POCKET, NOT THE INTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE). THIS CAUSED THE DOORS TO LOCK. I TRIED TO OPEN ALL OF THE DOORS, THEY WERE ALL LOCKED. THE KEY FOB WOULD NOT UNLOCK THE DOORS. I PRESSED THE BUTTON ON THE KEY FOB TO RELEASE THE MANUAL KEY. I INSTERTED IT INTO THE KEY HOLE AND TURNED. IT WOULD NOT RESPOND. NONE OF THE BUTTONS WOULD RESPOND. MANUAL KEY APPEARS TO ALSO BE ELECTRONIC. MY 16 MONTH OLD CHILD WAS LOCKED IN THE RUNNING CAR ALONE. MY WIFE CAME OUT AND WAS TRYING TO APPEASE HER THROUGH THE WINDOW. WE CALLED EMERGENCY SERVICES AND THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS DISPATCHED. AFTER ABOUT 15 MINUTES, MY UNSUPERVISED DAUGHTER PULLED HER BARRETTE FROM HER HAIR AND PLACED IT IN HER MOUTH. I PULLED A GREEN STAKE FROM THE GROUND THAT WAS PREVIOUSLY SUPPORTING AN ADOLESCENT TREE. I THREW IT LIKE A JAVELIN 10 TIMES AT THE CAR WINDOW IN AN ATTEMPT TO BREAK IT. IT WOULDN'T BREAK. ON MARCH 6, 2018 I WAS INVOLVED IN A CRASH. I REAR ENDED ANOTHER VEHICLE IN SLOW MOVING BUMPER TO BUMPER TRAFFIC. WHEN I HIT THE BRAKE THE CAR BEGAN TO SLIDE STRAIGHT FORWARD. NO PULSATION FROM THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES. I WAS AND AM VERY SURPRISED THAT MY CAR DID NOT STOP IN TIME. IN THE INTERIM I SETTLED MY CLAIM WITH MY INSURANCE COMPANY. ON 3/29/2018. ON 3/30/2018 I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM MITSUBISHI TELLING ME OF AN ISSUE THEY CALL A "PARKING BREAK" PROBLEM. I HAVE ASKED SEVERAL MECHANICS ABOUT THE POSSIBLE NEED TO REPLACE "THE PISTON ASSEMBLY OF THE REAR BRAKE CALIPER WILL BE REPLACED WITH A COUNTERMEASURE UNIT". I HAVE BEE ASSURED THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED A FAILURE TO THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM. BECAUSE I NO LONGER OWN THE CAR I HAVE NOTIFIED ALLSTATE INSURANCE OF THE PRESENT RECALL. IF POSSIBLE THIS SHOULD BE AN URGENT RECALL. SADLY I HAVE LOST THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS AND A RECORD OF 36 YEARS OF ACCIDENT FREE DRIVING. PLEASE INVESTIGATE

No unusual pattern of severe incidents in the complaint record.
Complaint counts track how many cars were sold and how long they have been on the road as much as they track quality. A common model from 2013 has had a decade to accumulate reports; a rare one from last year has not. The signal worth weighing is in the severity columns, in whether the same component keeps appearing, and in whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
Recall repairs are free for as long as the recall stands. Check whether a specific car still has open work at NHTSA's VIN lookup.
Most recent recall on file: Apr 20, 2026. Source: NHTSA Office of Defects Investigation.
