3 safety recalls

Part 573 reports
Air Bags15V037000
Filed Jan 27, 20151,346 vehiclesJaguar Land Rover North America, Llc

Defect. Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC (Jaguar) is recalling certain model year 2015 Jaguar XJ vehicles manufactured July 2, 2014, to December 4, 2014. The affected vehicles may have an incorrect description of the operation of Occupant Sensor System (OSS) in the owner's manual. Since the manual does not correspond with the actual Air Bag Status Indicator Lamp, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 208, "Occupant Crash Protection."

Risk. If the occupant does not correctly understand how air bag functions, they may be at an increased risk of personal injury in the event of a crash.

Remedy. Jaguar will notify owners, and supply a supplement to add to the owner's handbook, free of charge. The recall began March 2, 2015. Owners may contact Jaguar customer service at 1-800-452-4827. Jaguar's number for this recall is J050.

Defect. Jaguar Land Rover North America (Jaguar) is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 Jaguar XJ vehicles manufactured February 6, 2014, to July 23, 2014. In the affected vehicles, the brake line junctions under the vehicle may leak brake fluid.

Risk. A brake fluid leak may reduce the vehicle's braking ability, requiring additional distance to stop the vehicle, thereby increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy. Jaguar will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the brake line junctions, tightening them as necessary, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin on January 16, 2015. Owners may contact Jaguar customer service at 1-800-452-4827. Jaguar's number for this recall is J048.

Electrical System › Alternator/Generator/Regulator14V673000
Filed Oct 27, 2014272 vehiclesJaguar Land Rover North America, Llc

Defect. Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC (Jaguar) is recalling certain 2015 F-TYPE vehicles manufactured August 25, 2014, to September 12, 2014, 2015 XF vehicles manufactured September 3, 2014, to September 12, 2014, and 2015 XJ vehicles manufactured August 21, 2014, to September 11, 2014. In the affected vehicles, the Front End Accessory Drive (FEAD) belt, Power Assisted Steering (PAS) pump pulley and/or battery positive cable at the alternator may detach.

Risk. If the battery positive cable loosens, an electrical short may result, increasing the risk of a fire. If the FEAD belt looses or detaches, the vehicle may lose power assisted steering, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy. Jaguar has notified owners, and dealers will inspect the affected engine mounted components for the proper threading and torque, correcting them as necessary, free of charge. The recall began November 10, 2014. Owners may contact Jaguar customer service at 1-800-452-4827. Jaguar's number for this recall is J044.

Tire size 275/40/ZR 19. Unexpected tire wear. Have replaced twice in one year. Each set lasting about 5k miles. Current set lost air without puncture. All tread gone. verified proper inflation and appropriate driving style on AWD vehicle. Front tires are different size and appear to have held up better. Last incident led to flat tire and the need to change to spare on the side of a highway

MY 2015 JAGUAR XJ , WHICH WAS IN PARK GEAR - WITH ENGINE RUNNING, STARTED ROLLING BACK ON THE DRIVEWAY IN A DANGEROUS AND UNEXPLAINED FASHION AND ALMOST HIT MY KIDS AND I. THERE WAS NO-ONE IN THE CAR, AND I WAS ABLE TO BRING THE CAR TO A STOP BY JUMPING IN AND SLAMMING THE BRAKES. THE CAR WAS ROLLING, NOT SLIDING. THE SURVEILLANCE CAMERA CAUGHT THIS SCARY MOMENT AND YOU CAN VIEW THAT AT THE LINK BELOW HTTPS://DRIVE.GOOGLE.COM/FILE/D/1_NFUQM9JZBIFLLVDKF7-H5YU2OD6OO0F/VIEW?USP=DRIVESDK

I WAS CALMLY DRIVING SLOWER THAN 35 MPH ON A CITY STREET WHEN THE CAR SUDDENLY SLOWED DOWN AND STOPPED RESPONDING TO THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. WHEN I TRIED TO STEP ON THE GAS I HEARD A BIG EXPLOSION-LIKE SOUND. THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE CAR ACCELERATED TO WHAT SEEMS LIKE OVER 100 MPH AND THE BREAKS DID NOT WORK DESPITE ME PRESSING THE BREAKS SEVERAL TIMES. I SHOT INTO 3 CARS AHEAD OF ME THAT WERE AT THE RED LIGHT. THE OTHER CARS RECEIVED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE; I SAW THAT OTHERS WERE INJURED. MY CAR WAS COMPLETELY DAMAGED/CRUSHED IN THE FRONT AND A FIRE HAD BROKEN OUT. THE AIRBAGS HAD DEPLOYED AND I WAS PRETTY MUCH PINNED TO THE SEAT. I HAD BOUGHT THE CAR FROM THE DEALER BRAND NEW AND HAD IT REGULARLY SERVICED AND MAINTAINED. I WAS THE ONLY DRIVER AND IT HAD ONLY 30000 MILES OVER 3 YRS.

ON SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 9, 2019, AT ABOUT 5.45 P.M. I WAS DRIVING MY VEHICLE WITH MY WIFE AS THE FRONT SEAT PASSENGER. THE DRIVING CONDITIONS WERE GOOD AND WE BOTH HAD OUR SEAT BELTS ON. THERE WERE NO DISTRACTIONS IN THE CAR. I JUST GOT OFF THE WESTBOUND 118 FREEWAY AT THE SOUTHBOUND TOPANGA CANYON BLVD. OFF RAMP. I TURNED LEFT AND BROUGHT MY CAR TO A COMPLETE STOP AS THERE WERE OTHER CARS IN THE OUTER LANE (CLOSEST TO THE CURB.) THE CAR ROLLED FORWARD BY A COUPLE OF FEET DESPITE MY RIGHT FOOT BEING ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. MY WIFE ASKED WHAT WAS HAPPENING AND I REMARKED THAT THE BRAKES WERE NOT WORKING. THERE WAS AT THIS STAGE A GAP OF ABOUT FIVE FEET BETWEEN MY CAR AND THE ONE IN FRONT. I PRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL HARDER AND THE VEHICLE, INSTEAD OF STOPPING, WENT INTO SUDDEN ACCELERATION. SOMEHOW THE CAR VEERED INTO THE INNER LANE (CLOSEST TO THE CENTER DIVIDER LINE) AND HIT A HONDA TRUCK ON ITS RIGHT SIDE NEAR THE FRONT DOOR AFTER IT HAD SPUN HAVING BEEN STRUCK BY ANOTHER VEHICLE. 4 CARS, INCLUDING MINE, WERE INVOLVED IN THE CRASH. MY CAR'S AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY AND THERE WAS EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO THE FRONT OF THE CAR, PARTICULARLY ON THE LEFT SIDE. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO AN AUTO SHOP AND THE CASE REPORTED TO THE POLICE AND MY TRIPLE A INSURANCE COMPANY. I ALSO REPORTED IT TO JAGUAR CORPORATE BUT DID NOT GET MUCH HELP FROM THEM. I AM WAITING TO HEAR FROM MY INSURANCE COMPANY REGARDING THE DISPOSITION OF THE VEHICLE, BUT FEEL JAGUAR HAS TO TAKE ITS SHARE OF THE LIABILITY. PLEASE ADVICE

EARLY ONE MORNING WE FOUND OUR CAR ENGULFED IN FLAMES. FIRE APPARENTLY STARTED IN TRUNK AREA, WHERE BATTERY IS CONTAINED. THE CAR HAD NOT BEEN DRIVEN THAT DAY. FIRE 'INVESTIGATION' REVEALED NOTHING. CAR WAS A TOTAL LOSS. THIS MODEL HAD A RECALL THAT WAS SUPPOSEDLY FIXED 5 WEEKS PRIOR TO MY CAR BEING MANUFACTURED. I DON'T BELIEVE IT IS TRULY FIXED. NO ONE--NOT INSURANCE, JAGUAR OR DOT HERE SEEMS TO CARE A CAR BURST INTO FLAME AND WAS A 100K LOSS! IT WAS COMPLETELY DESTROYED. I FEEL THIS IS DANGEROUS FOR OTHER 2015 XJL SUPERCHARGED OWNERS. IF I'D BEEN DRIVING, I COULD HAVE EASILY PERISHED OR CAUSED A MAJOR INCIDENT ON A HIGHWAY INVOLVING OTHERS.

Reading this record

No unusual pattern of severe incidents in the complaint record.

Complaint counts track how many cars were sold and how long they have been on the road as much as they track quality. A common model from 2013 has had a decade to accumulate reports; a rare one from last year has not. The signal worth weighing is in the severity columns, in whether the same component keeps appearing, and in whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.

Recall repairs are free for as long as the recall stands. Check whether a specific car still has open work at NHTSA's VIN lookup.

Most recent recall on file: Jan 27, 2015. Source: NHTSA Office of Defects Investigation.
