Risk. A loss of power steering, particularly at lower speeds increases the risk of a crash.

Remedy. GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace steering gear torque sensor cover assembly, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed August 6, 2021. Defect. General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2015-2016 GMC Canyon and Chevrolet Colorado, and 2016 Chevrolet Volt vehicles. The driver's frontal air bag may improperly inflate during second-stage deployment in the event of a high speed crash.

Risk. An improperly inflated air bag increases the risk of injury in a crash.

Remedy. GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driver's frontal air bag module, free of charge. The recall began November 8, 2017. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is 17387.

A poor electrical connection within the steering gear connector may cause a loss of power steering assist.

Risk. A loss or reduction in power steering assist may increase the risk of a crash.

Remedy. GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the steering gear torque sensor cover assembly, free of charge. The recall began March 1, 2016. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is 15595.

Defect. General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2015 Chevrolet Colorado, and GMC Canyon trucks manufactured January 6, 2014, to December 24, 2014. The affected vehicles may experience the front brake calipers leaking brake fluid. This is due to air pockets, an imperfection in the metal caliper body.

Risk. If the vehicle experiences a brake fluid leak it can increase the stopping distance, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.

Remedy. GM will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and replace the front-brake calipers if necessary, free of charge. The recall began June 9, 2015. Owners may contact GM customer service at 1-800-222-1020 (Chevrolet), or 1-800-462-8782 (GMC). GM's number for this recall is 14888.

Defect. General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2015 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon trucks manufactured January 6, 2014, to April 1, 2015. In the affected vehicles, the hooks that secure the driver's and/or front passenger's seat frame may not have been properly attached to the vehicle body during assembly. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 207, "Seating Systems."

Risk. If the seat-frame attachment hooks are not secured properly, the seat may not be adequately anchored to the vehicle, and in the event of a crash, the seat occupant could be at an increased risk of an injury.

Remedy. GM will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the seats, correcting their installation as necessary, free of charge. The recall began on June 2, 2015. Defect. General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2015 Chevrolet Colorado vehicles manufactured September 15, 2014, to January 21, 2015, and 2015 GMC Canyon vehicles manufactured October 3, 2014, to December 9, 2014. The affected vehicles have a front driver air bag inflator that may be misaligned to the air bag module backplate. This can cause the inflator to separate from the backplate during a deployment.

Risk. If the inflator separates from the back plate in the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the driver's frontal air bag, this may cause the air bag or steering wheel components to separate and be propelled into the interior compartment, potentially seriously injuring the driver or other occupants. Additionally, the air bag may fail to properly inflate, increasing the risk of injury to the driver.

Remedy. GM has notified owners, and dealers will inspect the driver air bag module inflator for proper alignment, replacing the air bag, as necessary, free of charge. The recall began March 19, 2015. Defect. General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2015 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon vehicles manufactured January 6, 2014, to October 1, 2014. In the affected vehicles, the driver air bag connections may have been wired incorrectly. This could reverse the deployment sequence and disrupt the deployment timing of the driver air bag. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 208, "Occupant Crash Protection."

Risk. If the driver air bag does not deploy as designed, there is an increased risk of driver injury in the event of a crash necessitating air bag deployment.

Power steering Assist is failing consistently. Travelling on highways 65+ speeds while the power assist goes out. Must make it to the side of the road to reset vehicle. No they have not been able to reproduce because they do not test it long enough. By a Chevrolet dealer twice now. First visit they simply replaced the battery and never informed me of error codes regarding this internal component being a problem No warnings until the power steering goes out. There have been recalls from GM for power steering errors but they will not fix this one.

Vehicle experienced sudden loss of electronic power steering assist due to an integrated EPS module failure. This matches the exact failure criteria of GM Recall N202325410, but my VIN was excluded due to manufacturing date limits.

POWER STEERING GETS HARD AND CAN'T BE MOVED WHILE IN DRIVE. MESSAGE ERROR SAYS "SERVICE POWER STEERING, DRIVE WITH CARE"

Shortly after startup or while driving, my vehicle will suddenly lose power steering. The dashboard will illuminate the traction control light and warn "Service Staiblitrak" and "Power Steering Reduced Drive With Care" however this happens when the power steering is already lost. This has happened while pulling out of parking lots and also while pulling up to a red light in the street. If I turn the vehicle off and on 1-2 times then the fault clears and I can continue driving. A dealer could not reproduce the issue. They found two stored fault codes but could not diagnose further. There is no advance warning of the failure. The failure is random and has occurred about 2-3x per month for 3 months.

While driving my vehicle, the power steering assist suddenly and completely dropped out without warning. The dashboard displayed the warning message 'Service Power Steering, Drive with Care'. Immediately, the steering wheel became extremely heavy and nearly impossible to turn, creating an immediate and severe crash hazard. Turning the vehicle off and back on temporarily clears the message, but the power steering assist fails again shortly after. This is an intermittent hardware and electrical communication failure that makes the vehicle unsafe to operate on public roads. I contacted a Chevrolet dealership to check for remedy under NHTSA Safety Recall #21V213 (GM Recall #N202325410). However, I was informed that my VIN is not included in the current recall list, despite my vehicle experiencing the exact same catastrophic steering gear and torque sensor defect described in the recall. I am filing this report because this severe safety defect clearly extends beyond the manufacturer's limited VIN scope.

Power steering goes out while driving down the road. Sometimes it works, then it doesnt, it is intermittent and I have to manually steer my vehicle when it goes out. Service power steering with care, and service stabilitrak pop up on the dash while driving. If i turn the truck off and turn it back on, sometimes that will allow the power steering to work again. I have not taken my vehicle to a dealer or service center and it has not been inspected by the manyfacturer.

Sudden power steering loss

While driving my EPS steering stop working suddenly forcing me to the side of the road where I fortunately went in a large parking area. I had the truck towed. In 2021GM replaced the steering torque sensor cover as per the recall to protect the sensor. The steering torque sensor has now failed due to I believe water intrusion. GM has refused to honor any kind of reimbursement or wrong doing. Blamed faulty replacement parts.

Request to be added to any class action lawsuits with my Colorado Truck. Truck was purchased Jan 2015. On day one the truck had a shudder that was lite but noticeable, dealer said " this is normal and as the computer gets to understand your driving it will be less noticeable" I put up with until the transmission stopped working and had to replace the Torque Converter on Jan 2022 after to warranty ran out. $2788. I am submitting this complaint regarding a serious safety defect involving my 2015 Chevrolet Colorado. While I was driving the vehicle, it suddenly lost power steering assist. The steering wheel immediately became extremely heavy and difficult to turn, requiring significantly more physical effort to control the vehicle. This sudden loss of steering assistance created a dangerous situation for me, my passengers, and other motorists. The failure occurred without warning and substantially affected my ability to safely steer and maneuver the vehicle. The electric power steering assembly has failed. I will be driving and my power steering will cut out with no warning, the sensor light is on constantly. Turning it off will sometimes fix it but not for long. It will affect my cruise control at times as well

Was traveling down the interstate at 75mph. The steering wheel jolted left and would not allow driver to turn the wheel back to the right causing a single vehicle accident. The vehicle left the roadway and hit the cable barrier in the median and traveled approximately 50 yards before stopping.

My 2015 Colorado has begun to periodically lose power steering. I have now several times been driving. I here a warning ding and a warning on the dash, then my power steering is completely gone. Steering becomes very difficult. This is a significant safety issue. Once I am able to safely pull out of traffic, and restart the truck, the power steering returns.

Since i've had my truck the passenger seat vibrates excessively while driving; the oil alert comes on even when there is oil, current oil change; seems to not have power, shifts hard. What's interesting is that these items come up when I searched on recalls. this truck is not driven hard... mehanic cant figure out what is causing the oil alert, the passenger seat shaking excessively.. and there is a recall on You Tube Truck was purchased in [XXX], 07/15 have lived in [XXX] since 11/15. Odometer Fraud. The contact purchased a 2015 Chevrolet Colorado. The contact stated that they discovered a mileage discrepancy after the purchase. The vehicle was a private sale. At the time of purchase, the vehicle mileage was 193,073. The contact began having unknown issues with the vehicle and obtained a Carfax report. The report indicated the vehicle was due for an oil change. The report indicated the mileage was 292,500. The Birmingham police department was contacted and referred him to the NHTSA hotline.

Will be driving and suddenly my EPS light turns on and doesn’t allow me to turn. I have sudden loss of power assist, making the steering wheel incredibly heavy to turn. Once I pull over to safety and fully turn the truck off and back on, I can generally make it to my destination as the sensor temporarily goes off. It appears there have been recalls for this, but my specific VIN was not included in the recall for some reason. Ultimately, this is extremely dangerous as I have a pretty busy route to/from work. This all randomly started happening two days ago. I am working to schedule an appointment with a local mechanic, but hoping to be included in the recall because it sounds exactly like what was happening in the recall.

Lose his power steering while driving down the road. System says needs work on ABS when you hit a bump the radio changes itself. The anti-theft is on when key is in ignition and going down the road it's saying it's theft mode service engine light is on even after servicing the engine

My truck lost steering 3 times already and i brought to dealership twice with them telling it can't be fixed! first tine jan of 2024 and also jan of this year

Lost steering twice while driving, brought truck to dealer and they put it on there computer and reprogramed and worked for a little while and it went again. costing me 120 dollars for the to program it.

Intermittent loss of power steering while driving and at start up. Warning indicators flash "Service Power Steering Drive With Care" and "Service Stabilitrak." Most of the time, when you turn off the truck and turn it back on again, the message will clear and all will be fine again. However, a week or two will go by and it happens again. The last time it happened, it would not clear right away. Finally, it did the next day. GM says there was a recall on my truck that was repaired for this problem but I'm seeing a lot of people online still having problems. This is very dangerous because I cannot physically steer the truck when the power steering goes out. I'm very concerned that me or my teenage son who drives it is going to get in a serious accident.

Had safety recall for loss of power steering repair done in November of 2021. First incident: Leaving a grocery store parking lot, loss of power steering made the steering nearly impossible at low speeds. Message on display said to have steering serviced and dinged. Had a tow truck come and take it to the same dealership that did the repair. Low voltage code was reset, power steering was returned. Dealership wanted $2.3k to repair. Second incident: One month later, pulling out of my driveway when the same message displayed and the dash dinged. Had a tow truck take it to a different repair shop, same issue, same resolution. $2.4k repair. I declined both repairs.

I’m having an issue with my power steering assist. It just goes out while I’m driving. I almost hit a telephone pole one day almost 2 cars two other times. It started about seven months ago when you pull over shut off the truck open the door to break continuity for the electrical system close the door and start it. It goes back to working normal. It’s gotta be part of the connections underneath the power steering assembly unit itself, but there is no recall for my specific Vin.

During travel on the highway warning lights appeared and the vehicle lost power steering. This posed a significant safety risk at higher rates of speed and curved roads. Driver immediately drove to the nearest dealership to inquire about safety recalls. The dealership stated that no recalls had been issued for this vehicle and they require a fee to assess the vehicle. Dealership said that the steering failure could result in death and that the incident could have been catastrophic and fatal. The dealer again stated that there was no recalls without checking make model or vin. Upon research of the problem there was no specific recall for this vehicle but it is a common issue for this year make and model. If numerous vehicles identical to mine are having the same issue it is reasonable to believe my vehicle should be recalled experiencing the same problems.

“My vehicle has repeatedly lost electric power steering while driving, and I get warnings for Stabilitrak, traction control, and ‘Service Power Steering – Drive with Care.’ Restarting the vehicle temporarily clears the issue, but it keeps happening.”

As I approached an intersection a chime sounded and a message appeared saying power steering is off...I barely avoided an accident. when I restarted the engine the steering was back to normal. I have since learned that this has happened to many vehicles of this make and model. The dealer claims that this particular model is not on the recall list. I have also learned this is happening to models that are not under the recall. this is a very dangerous situation and needs to be addressed.

I lost power steering , a message came on display and a warning sound and then no power steering while driving on highway, I check the recalls and it shows a recall related about this issue was completed back in 2021 august , but I never took my car to dealership to get this fix because I never received a letter notifying me about it. please I need to get this issue fix and no it has not been completed .

The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Colorado. The contact stated that while driving on a service road at 35 MPH and attempting to bring the vehicle to a stop, the brake pedal was depressed; however, the brake pedal was extremely firm, requiring excessive force to depress for the vehicle to come to a stop. The contact stated that there was an abnormal amount of white smoke coming from the front end of the vehicle. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact pulled over and had the vehicle towed to the local dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the vacuum pump was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 141,540.

My 2015 chevrolet colorado 3.6 v6 LT is having random complete loss of power steering while driving. I contacted chevrolet regarding the recall for 2015 model colorado and they do not know why there was never a recall for my truck, they stated there's nothing they can do, I will have to pay the money for the repair that they have for the recall. But I won't be remembursted. This make absolutely no sense. If the repair is the recall repair then why would it not be covered? Power steering failure on electrical power steering unit Power steering has stopped working while driving, going through an intersections. Turning the vehicle off then turning it back on resets the system and Power steering works. I cannot reproduce or mimic issue, it happens at random not warning. Dealer or service center cannot diagnose because issue cannot be mimic The warning lamp come on exactly when the power steering goes out. At the same time a few weeks ago.

Vehicle loses electric power steering intermittently. Power steering components (gear, harness, hose, torque sensor) all replaced in August 2023 due to water damage/corrosion. Loss of power steering returned in May 2025. Brought to dealer and was told that harness needed replacement again due to water damage/corrosion for $1700. Vehicle is only driven on paved roads and is parked on street where no other cars have water damage issues. I suspect there is a poor design for this harness connection. No other electric issues noted.

Power steering and stabiltrack are going out intermittently. The city's truck is turned off and restarted. Problem goes away but then will return later in the day

As I was driving on the freeway at approximately 65MPH, the steering, suddenly and unexpectedly, became extremely hard. It was so hard I had to use a lot of arm power to steer it to the shoulder of the freeway. The incident scared me to death, as it has never happened to me before in any vehicle. I loaned my truck to my twin brother and it happened to him too. He actually almost crashed. According to Chevy/GMC there's no recall for this. IT SHOULD BE! Thank you

While I was driving home at about 50 mph a warning light of power steering failure appeared. I decreased speed and struggled to maneuver the steering wheel to keep the truck in my lane. I live in a rural area of Tennessee with hairpin curves and mountains! Myself and everyone I met was at risk. I did make it home and called my dealership concerning a recall for power steering failure. No recalls! This appears to be a widespread safety concern.

My vehicle keeps losing power steering and abs and traction control lights come on, there was a recall for this issue but not for the month my vehicle was manufactured

The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the contact became aware that the electronic power steering was not functioning properly, requiring increased effort to maneuver the vehicle. The vehicle returned to normal functionality, but the failure became a regular occurrence. The service power steering warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the steering gear torque sensor cover assembly. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V213000 (Steering), but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 107,000.
