Defect. Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2020 Nissan Murano, INFINITI QX60, 2021 Nissan GT-R, INFINITI QX50, and Q50 vehicles. The front steering knuckle or rear axle housing may have insufficient strength due to improper heat-treatment.

Risk. The steering knuckle or rear axle could deform upon impact, such as from hitting a curb, resulting in a loss of steering control, or possible wheel separation. Both of these conditions can increase the risk of a crash.

Remedy. Dealers will inspect and replace the front steering knuckle and rear axle housing, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed July 26, 2021. Nissan owners may contact customer service at 1-800-867-7669. INFINITI owners may contact customer service at 1-800-662-6200.

Defect. Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2020 Nissan Murano vehicles. The left and/or right-hand transverse link may not have been manufactured correctly, which could result in it separating from the ball joint.

Risk. Ball joint separation can cause a loss of vehicle control, and increase the risk of a crash.

Remedy. Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the transverse link's lot codes, and if necessary, replace them and perform a vehicle alignment, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on May 6, 2021. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669. Nissan's number for this recall is PC797.

Component Affected: SUSPENSION: FRONT: CONTROL ARM: LOWER ARM Description of Defect: My 2020 Nissan Murano experienced a severe front suspension failure matching the exact structural symptoms described in Nissan Recall Campaign PC797 (NHTSA Campaign Number 21V170000) for defective front transverse links/lower control arms. The vehicle exhibited a loud popping and clunking noise coming from the front end, occurring primarily when applying the brakes and coming to a stop as the vehicle’s weight shifted forward. A professional diagnosis confirmed a failing front lower control arm and ball joint, creating a structural failure and an immediate risk of component separation, which threatens a total loss of steering control. This safety defect first manifested as a persistent noise last year while the vehicle was still well under the 84,000-mile mark when I took it in to have my transmission fluid changed. However, I thought it pertained to my front brakes and the repair man said when he drove it, he didn't hear the noise. But I continued to hear the noise when I braked in the front area. So, when I recently checked my 17-digit VIN on the official recall portal, after the inspection of my vehicle during an oil change, is when I was told about the front suspension. My vehicle shows "0 Open Recalls." Nissan Corporate Consumer Affairs refused to offer assistance or a goodwill repair due to the current mileage (99,488 miles), stating my VIN was excluded from the campaign. Because my vehi

January 4, 2024 the front portion of our panoramic sunroof shattered spontaneously. We thought we were struck by something so took care of it through our insurance. On April 27, 2026 the back portion of our panoramic sunroof shattered spontaneously. This time we were driving on the freeway on an overpass and there was no one around. This was also taken care of through our insurance. The repair shop checked for a recall and there wasn't one. We checked on the internet about this issue and saw that this has been a problem. We tried to be included in a class action suit and it had been closed. The attorney said we should report both instances to NHTSA so that's what we are doing.

My 2020 Nissan Murano SV driver side headlight failed. This headlight is suppose to be a “sealed for life” unit. This failure created an immediate driving hazard. There was heavy moisture intrusion on with the driver side, the headlight stopped working, creating a visibility hazard. The moisture intrusion / headlight outage triggered a “Headlight System Error “ on the dash. My 2020 Nissan is garage parked, no accident. My Nissan has 28,800 miles. I have taken pictures, to show that the headlight lense is pristine condition. My Nissan is at the repair shop, getting a new OEM original Nissan Headlamp replaced. The cost of this replacement headlamp is $1851. And a labor charge of approximately $380. $2241.00 repair cost. I instructed my mechanic that I wanted the failed unit for future reference if needed.

My sunroof exploded but I don't know why. There was no warning. Might have been a rock but I didn't see one. I had the sunroof closed but the fabric cover was open for light. I heard an explosive noise and then glass started raining in. I closed the fabric cover to keep the glass out of the passenger compartment. No real injuries other than a couple of glass shards being sharp. Mostly just got some skin irritation. Some areas on my car have scratched paint and plastic parts. I had my Nissan dealer look at it. They will clean up the glass and replace the sunroof for about $2000. I feel like it should be replaced for free as a warranty item. I also got an estimate from a collision shop for about $7500. There is scratched paint and plastic as well as the headliner certainly has glass in it. Their estimate was much more detailed. Filed an insurance claim today, so hope to have it all fixed up soon.

The car keeps braking like I've been in an accident when I travel under an overpass. It doesn't do it every time, just sometimes. I've had it at the dealer, Don Moore in Owensboro, Ky. and since it doesn't show any codes they can't/won't do anything about it. I don't feel safe driving this car for fear it will slam on the brakes at any time. It has happened 3 times so far. It also did it almost, once, when driving down the main street in town. It all of the sudden showed the cameras and the lights came up on the dash but luckily it didn't brake. Thank you. [XXX] . I was driving my vehicle on the freeway at a speed of 60 mph when all of a sudden the sun roof part of my panoramic roof shattered all over my interior of my car and myself. It blew up all over me and was quite disturbing let alone could of caused an accident or glass could of cut my eyes. I was quite shaken up. I contacted my insurance and working a claim to have it replaced. Then I find out this has been common in Nissan vehicles for a long time and law suits because of it, too. These sunroofs allegedly exploded because of their design. Instead of laminating the glass in the sunroofs, the lawsuits claimed, Nissan used thin pieces of tempered glass instead of thicker pieces. The reason why Nissan allegedly did this, according to the suits, is so that the sunroof could be lighter and, thus, the vehicle could get better fuel economy. The lawsuits also alleged the Japanese automaker applied ceramic enamel around the edges of the sunroofs, weakening the strength of the glass. I also sent an email to Nissan but doubt if I will hear from them. What is being done by the Safety Commission in regard to this matter so this doesn't happen to other customers of these vehicles?

It has happened twice since we purchased our Murano 8 months ago. When pulling onto a divided highway you have to slow down then you accelerate to get into the lane....the transmission hesitates around 2 or 3 seconds then grabs the gear and you take off. This is very worrysome for us, both being retired and it could cause an accident.

While driving down interstate the car's automatic collision breaking system activated and brought the car to an immediate stop. While breaking the information screen in the steering wheel area flashed red with an explanation point symbol but as soon as the breaking was done it went away and no other lights appeared on the dash indicating an issue. There was nothing that should have triggered the automatic collision braking system to have engaged. Had someone been directly behind me this could have easily caused an accident by them slamming into the back of my car as nothing would have caused them to expect sudden breaking by me. The unexpected sudden breaking happened twice within a 10 minute window while driving on interstate. I have driven it minimally since so I could have it looked at by the dealer to review the issue as it is under warranty and I felt it unsafe to drive. The car has been inspected by a Nissan dealer and they are unable to reproduce the issue and are not taking any repair action at this time.

This is a 2020 Nissan Murano S. The vehicle has been well maintained and taken to the dealership for maintenance periodically. I usually take my vehicle to either Antwerpen Nissan Clarksville or Antwerpen Nissan Security. I took my vehicle to Antwerpen Nissan Security for a transmission flush and change. Shortly after that service I started to notice an oil smell coming into the cabin. I took it back to them twice and they did not see any leakage or anything to cause the smell. I later took my car to Antwerpen Clarksville. They didn't notice the smell but said I needed to replace both front lower control arms for $1655.88. Front lower control arms splitting, dry rotting. This car was purchased brand new and only had 62K miles. This appears to be premature wear and of course the warranty as passed, which would have been 5 years or 60,000 miles. Out of all the visits I had, no one seen this premature wear on the control arm until this visit. This doesn't happen overnight, and I think Nissan should cover this. My vehicle was seen at Antwerpen Nissan at 56k and inspected and the dealer never mentioned this issue.

Yesterday, my wife and I were on I94 eastbound in heavy afternoon traffic, in the left of three lanes, and crossed from Minnesota into Wisconsin. The car was on interactive cruise control. The freeway entry to Wisconsin is a long, uphill grade and I needed to get out of the left lane in preparation to exit about 3 miles ahead. I turned off the interactive cruise control and pressed the accelerator in order to safely merge into the faster moving center lane. I instantly lost control of the engine. Not only did the engine not respond to pressing the accelerator, it actually bogged down and slowed. Having effectively lost power because I had no control over the engine, I tried to shelter on the left shoulder but is was not wide enough to get the car out of the left lane. Worse, the narrow shoulder between the left lane and the concrete barrier wall was full of debris, and I immediately had a terrible fear of puncturing a tire in which case I would really be in trouble. The car came to a stop and I still had no control over the engine, sitting there with high speed traffic swerving around us. I put the transmission in neutral and it still didn’t respond to the throttle, and the same with park. Finally, I stopped the engine and restarted, and I then had control of the car. When a gap in traffic came, I got back on the freeway and continued home with no further incident. I could easily have been hit by a high speed vehicle, or caused a severe accident involving others due to vehicl

On Feb 26, 2022; my wife and I were driving down a Hwy in SW Georgia at approximately 60 mph and our 2020 Nissan Murano Sunroof literally exploded. The roof was fully closed at the time and the sun shade was also closed. It was like a shot gun blast. Was a good thing I was driving, had my wife been driving I suspect she would have reacted in a manner that would have wrecked us. We were both shook up. Hearing wind blowing into car, I slightly opened the sun shade and could tell the center portion of the sun roof had blown out and shivers of glass came down onto us, I closed the shade and pulled over at next available opportunity. At the time the sun roof exploded, there were no other vehicles within approx 1/4 mile in front of us, we had not just passed any vehicle, there were no overpasses, and nothing we recall to have hit the roof. I-95 NISSAN, a Dealership in Riviera Beach Florida received a stop sale order on this car on March 10, 2021. I went to the Dealership on 4/13/2021 to get the oil changed and tires rotated on my 2015 Nissan Murano Platinum. My existing vehicle was in perfect mechanical condition, and while I was awaiting the completion of my oil change, a Sales Person came up and began to chat with me, and told me I needed to buy a new car, and said my car would be junk in no time, and I needed to get rid of it before it was literally worth nothing. This Man did not relent all day long. I finally caved and bought the 2020 Murano against my better judgement, and I had no idea it had a recall issued on it, but they did! About 2 months later, I get a call from the Dealership inviting me in for a free oil change and Tire rotation on the new purchase. I declined, because I was ultimately not satisfied with the Salespersons behavior post-purchase. He continued to text me and ask me out to dinner, dancing, etc. until I finally blocked his phone number. So, I had no intention on getting anything further from THAT Nissan Dealership. The Person on the phone mentioned that they really needed to get the car in there because they really should not have sold it to me with an open recall, and they needed to get that fixed. The airbags over the windshield and under the dashboard deployed. The bags under the dash exploded with such force that they injured my husband's legs, and he has been seeing a wound doctor for the past five weeks. The car was towed to a repair shop. Reading this record

No unusual pattern of severe incidents in the complaint record.

Complaint counts track how many cars were sold and how long they have been on the road as much as they track quality. A common model from 2013 has had a decade to accumulate reports; a rare one from last year has not. The signal worth weighing is in the severity columns, in whether the same component keeps appearing, and in whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.

Recall repairs are free for as long as the recall stands. Check whether a specific car still has open work at NHTSA's VIN lookup.

Most recent recall on file: May 27, 2021. Source: NHTSA Office of Defects Investigation.
