During vehicle startup, the defroster, seat belt warning, 360° view monitor functions, and the PHEV high-voltage battery cooling system may not function properly.

Risk. An ESU that does not function properly, increases the risk of a crash.

Defect. Mazda North America Operations (Mazda) is recalling certain 2024 CX-90 vehicles. An assembly issue with the worm gear in the steering system may result in a sudden loss of power steering assist.

Risk. Loss of power steering assist while driving increases the risk of a crash.

Defect. Mazda North American Operations (Mazda) is recalling certain 2024 CX-90 and MAZDA3 vehicles. Due to a software error, the rearview, front, and/or side camera images may not appear on the display. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, "Rear Visibility."

Risk. A camera that does not display an image can reduce the driver's view, increasing the risk of a crash or injury.

Defect. Mazda North American Operations (Mazda) is recalling certain 2024 CX-90 vehicles. Software in the Approaching Vehicle Audible System (AVAS) Information Sound Box (ISB) amplifier may be missing, which can cause inaccurate, external pedestrian warning sounds. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 141, "Minimum Sound Requirements for Hybrid Electric Vehicles."

Risk. Inaccurate external warning sounds may confuse pedestrians about the direction of an approaching vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash or injury.

Some steering and suspension bolts may be missing or improperly tightened, which can cause the steering intermediate shaft, the front anti-lock brake system wheel speed sensor harnesses, or the front upper control arms to detach, resulting in a loss of vehicle control.

Rear door handles stick in the open position intermittently. Seems to happen more when weather is wet. Dealer fixed this problem once after a TSB was issued, but it is happening again. Dealer has not been able to replicate in person again and originally would not open case based on video of it happening. Upon contacting the manufacturer, the dealer was instructed to open a tech line case. If the door outer door handle stays in the open position when the door is closed it prevents the inner door handle from opening the door which caused my daughter to be stuck in the car until someone could let her out.

When driving the vehicle both at highway speed and city speed (but more noticeable at highway speed) after turning the wheel to turn the car, when trying to return to straight the steering wheel "sticks" and I have to force it to return to center. This problem has been going on for several months so I took it to the Mazda dealership where I purchased the car, and they confirmed the problem. The dealer said it was not under a further recall (they had previously applied lubricant to the steering mechanism) and at this time not covered by warranty (I have exceeded the 36,000 mile warranty). Awaiting further information on coverage by my extended warranty. This is a serious safety concern as the car unexpectedly causes steering issues and I have almost hit other vehicles on the highway because of the sticky steering.

Our 2024 Mazda CX 90 is experiencing the well known “sticky steering wheel” problem that reveals itself as a post-recall fix failure.

My 2024 Mazda CX-90 PHEV received the steering gear remedy for Recall 24V022 (Mazda 6524A), at about 10,000 miles. Around three weeks ago, the same condition the recall was meant to fix came back. While driving, the steering suddenly and without warning becomes heavy and hard to turn, requiring much more effort to steer. This now occurs basically any time the vehicle is moving, including almost the entire drive to the dealership this morning. It is most impactful when on a curve or turn especially on the highway, as the wheel will stick and not allow slight movements forcing me to jerk the wheel a bit to get the proper angle to turn. No warning lights or messages appear on the dashboard when it happens. Luckily no crash or injury has occurred yet, but I don't feel safe on the highway. Today, October 23rd, I took the vehicle to an authorized Mazda dealer and reported that the recall symptom had returned. The dealer confirmed the condition and recommended replacing the steering rack and related parts, quoting $3,136.41 as a customer-paid repair. The dealer has submitted a goodwill request to Mazda, and I have opened a case with Mazda's Customer Experience Center. As of today, the defect has not been repaired. This appears to be the same post-remedy condition described in NHTSA Recall Query RQ26002. The recall remedy did not permanently correct the defect on my vehicle. Steering malfunction was recalled in January 2024. Although it was reported as fixed, the sticky steering has returned. Dealership stated that vehicle requires a new motor that powers steering. Steering has continued to become more difficult to turn and we are concerned about driving the car.

The Electric Power Steering Rack and Pinnion is sticking while turning and will not return properly without help.

I have taken the care more than once to the dealership to fix a sticky steering wheel but it keeps happening.

While driving through a busy intersection with my family inside the vehicle, my 2024 Mazda CX-90 suddenly experienced a complete loss of propulsion. Pressing the accelerator pedal produced no response, leaving the vehicle unable to accelerate or maintain speed. The vehicle displayed warning messages stating “Engine malfunction” and “Stop safely and shift to Park.” I was forced to rely on the vehicle’s remaining momentum to coast out of the busy intersection and into a nearby gas station. This unexpected loss of propulsion created an extremely dangerous situation and placed my family at serious risk of a collision with surrounding traffic. Following the incident, the vehicle was taken to Hiley Mazda, where technicians diagnosed a failed 48-volt mild-hybrid battery and ordered a replacement under warranty. A leaking radiator was also discovered during the same service visit. This vehicle has an extensive history of electrical malfunctions, abnormal i-Stop operation, software-related issues, and previous safety concerns. However, this incident was particularly alarming because the vehicle completely lost propulsion while operating in active traffic. I am extremely concerned that this type of failure could occur in other Mazda CX-90 vehicles, potentially resulting in a serious accident or injury. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate this sudden loss-of-propulsion failure and determine whether it represents a broader safety defect affecting Mazda’s 48-volt mild-hybrid system.

I am reporting a potentially dangerous steering defect in my Mazda CX-90. The steering problem initially developed approximately two months ago at around 8,500 miles and has progressively worsened. The vehicle currently has 9,443 miles, and the steering now catches or binds during nearly every low-speed turn. Specifically, when making turns at approximately 10 mph, the steering wheel appears to catch or become stuck about halfway through the turn. I must apply additional force to overcome the resistance and straighten the steering wheel. The steering does not move smoothly or return to center as expected. This is no longer an occasional occurrence. It happens during nearly every low-speed turn, making the vehicle's steering unpredictable and unsafe. I have owned and driven numerous vehicles and have never experienced this behavior. My wife refuses to drive the vehicle because she does not feel safe operating it. I am concerned that the unexpected steering resistance could result in a loss of vehicle control or an accident. We recently purchased a used 2024 Mazda CX-90 and noticed that upon driving on winding roads at approximately 35-45 mph when turning the wheel on a curve in the road, the steering wheel would stick in position and then fight to go back to center. It almost felt like the steering wheel was fighting me. After about a week of driving the vehicle both my wife and I experienced the same issue. We noticed that when turning to the left, it stuck in position longer than when turning to the right but in both directions, the same issue occurred. We brought it to the dealership and they said they could not recreate the issue and said the car is fine. I do not feel safe driving the car and now we are stuck with it.

The component of concern is my interior rearview mirror and it's mounting piece. While i was driving the entire rearview mirror and it's mounting piece detached together and fell off. there was no collision , and there was no visible damages to the windshield. The exact cause of detachment is unknown. The safety concern is the interior rearview mirror used to see traffic behind the vehicle is no longer available that was included with my vehicle. The unexpected detachment affected my ability to use the mirror while driving. I had my care serviced in Maryland at the dealer service center and my rearview mirror and it's mounting was inspected for broken pieces . The rearview mirror and mounting was repaired at the service center after the inspection. As soon as i pulled off made a right turn at the first traffic light the mirror and mounting fell down . I returned within minutes to the same service center and was given a refund and was informed the tech can't fix the mirror / mounting. I reported the issue to Mazda Corporate and requested assistance. Mazda declined to provide goodwill assistance after the dealership service manager classified the issue as an external concern . My auto insurance company advised me that the incident falls under mechanical breakdown and is not covered . No warning messages prior . No specific incident happened however, oftentimes while driving, I experience "stickey steering" which I have researched and appears as though affected 2024 CX-90 Mazda's. Whili I am driving around sharp turns or on/off ramps that are curved, my steering wheel gets stuch and I have to manually ensure that when I am straightening out the steering wheel, that I don't over correct, merge over the cross line or hit another oncoming vehicle.

I took my 2024 Mazda CX-90 PHEV to the Mazda dealership due to a sticky steering and jerking while turning at high and low speeds. I did some research and found Safety Recall 6524A. The dealership said my vehicle did not have any pending/open recalls so they could not do anything with that information. They charged me a diagnostic fee, and recommended a complete steering rack replacement. However, I am outside the warranty for my vehicle. I checked the Mazda Recall info webpage myself, typed in my VIN and the recall does show up as CLOSED. I would like to have this safety recall re-repaired, since it is a safety concern for me and my family. This issue has almost caused me to have an accident more than a few times at high speeds, and this safety recall 6524A EXACTLY describes the problem. I have no information as to when the recall was repaired on my vehicle, as I purchased it used. No other symptoms or warning lights have popped up, and I have noticed this issue a few weeks ago.

The contact owns a 2024 Mazda CX-90. The contact stated that the vehicle was previously repaired by a dealer. While driving, the vehicle lost motive power. The contact turned off and restarted the vehicle. Additionally, the front passenger’s seat failed to move as needed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, and it was determined that there was a radiator and battery case leak. The contact was informed that the vehicle was unsafe to drive and was provided a loaner vehicle. The dealer replaced the battery and the front passenger’s seat electric switch. The battery case and radiator needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure by email. The failure mileage was 46,464.

Safety Recall 6524A (NHTSA Campaign 24V022000) was previously performed on this vehicle. However, the 'sticky steering' and sudden increase in steering effort have entirely returned. The dealership is stating a full steering rack replacement is required but Mazda is denying warranty coverage due to mileage. This is a recurring safety defect that the initial recall remedy failed to permanently resolve.

The contact owns a 2024 Mazda CX-90. The contact stated that the steering rack coil was previously replaced under a recall. The contact stated that while driving 40 MPH off the highway, the contact suddenly lost steering and directional control, and the vehicle independently veered out of the lane. The contact was able to regain control after several attempts. The contact initially believed that the vehicle had hydroplaned; however, the failure reoccurred a month later. The contact stated that while driving 35 MPH on another occasion, the driver completely lost steering and directional control. The vehicle independently veered to the left and moved uncontrollably while the contact attempted to turn right. The steering wheel felt firm and was stuck before overcorrecting, causing the rear passenger’s side rim to strike a curb on the right. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the steering rack had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure by phone. The failure mileage was approximately 39,900.

Sometime around Dec 2025 I noticed the headlights would flicker from time to time producing inconsistent and unsatisfactory illumination in front the vehicle and at times causing a blinding effect to oncoming drivers. The vehicle was taken to the Mazda dealership where they loaded some software in an attempted fix and stated that if that didn’t fix the problem, they would have to order the headlight switch and I would need to reschedule the vehicle back for the replacement. It took a few more months before I noticed the problem wasn’t fix. At that time I was getting ready to take the vehicle back to a Mazda dealership for some unrelated work, so I added that to the list of things to be addressed at the dealership during that visit. Before my scheduled appointment, I was able to determine that the problem only occurred while it was raining. At the dealership they mentioned that this problem had now been reported by others and was determined to be the result of water running off the front of the hood onto and down the front of the headlights. The fix was to install some “eyelids” to channel the water away from the headlights but I needed to reschedule a visit due to parts not being on hand at this time. I rescheduled the visit and had the suggested fix complied with, only to find out during the next rain fall that it only helped a little with the flickering but that the problem still existed. I mention this to the dealership to which they responded that they have done all that

I am experiencing the intermittent sticky steering defect on the highway. It begins as a binding sensation during micro-corrections at high speeds, and then the steering remains notched and heavy for the rest of the drive at lower speeds. It doesn’t happen 100% of the time. I need to be driving for a little while on the highway before it starts. I took it back to dealership but they couldn’t get it to do the same thing but they did add grease to a part of the steering. It seemed ok for a few weeks, but it is now back again. I am going to call the dealership back because they advised to let them know if it does start happening again.

At high speeds, when turning around a bend the steering wheel gets sticky and will get stuck and then suddenly move again. This can happen 2-3 times as the wheel is turned around a bend.

The steering gets stuck on making a sweeping left turn on the interstate. It will hold that position until the driver exerts pressure to turn the steering wheel to the right. As it releases, the car swerves to the right a bit. The dealer was asked to check for a malfunction but claimed they can not duplicate it. The is a dangerous problem at 65 or 70 mph. Thank you!

The steering wheel last week suddenly started intermittently locking up mid-turn. It will catch or get "stuck" in whatever position you held your turn in, and will not go back to the 12 o'clock position without forceful interventions to bring it back. Even knowing it was happening and being prepared for it, it locked up so badly driving 60mph around a curve on the highway that it almost made me fly off the road! This is extremely dangerous and unacceptable. I can no longer let me family ride in this car and I don't know what to do.

Steering is notchy/sticky and hard to return to center at all speeds, stopped and on the highway. It drifts on the highway and needs constant corrections.

I was making a left turn and the steering wheel did not return to center and was stuck in the left turn position. I had to manually force it back. This happened again a few minutes later on another left turn.

Steering wheel sticks while going left. Getting worse. Mazda says no recall

The contact's wife owns a 2024 Mazda CX-90. The contact stated that while turning the steering wheel to the left, the steering wheel became stuck momentarily and there was resistance while attempting to return the steering wheel to center. There was an abnormal clicking sound coming from the steering wheel. The contact stated that additional force was needed to return the steering wheel to center. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the contact was informed that the vehicle was previously repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V022000 (Steering). A diagnostic test was performed on the vehicle, and it was determined that the steering gear was inoperable and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 3,000.

Steering wheel feels “sticky”, I rented this car from Flexcar. Now I’m without a car, because on the 5th day of driving this car the steering wheel got stuck and almost caused an accident. They are inspecting the car now, but they told me the “recall was already repaired” however: I’m had the EXACT same problem as the recall. This recall with the steering wheel is NOT fixed. This car is NOT safe to drive.

Car purchased 6/12, drove home and noticed steering wheel sticking when turning to left. Had not noticed during test drive (as all turns were Right handed). Called Dealer and took car in for spring adjustment/repair on 6/24/2026. Car was ok for short time and then steering again stuck when turning to left. Called Dealership again and they took vehicle from 7/17-7/23. Steering was fine for a few weeks and noticed steering sticking again dropped off Monday 9/14/2026. Awaiting call from Dealership as to status on 9/18/2026

The steering is sticky, especially on the highway trying to make small corrections

The vehicle had a “sticky steering” wheel. It was over correcting and not allowing for proper steering which was making it dangerous to drive. After speaking directly to Mazda, we took it to the Mazda dealership they asked for me to take it to and they evaluated it. The dealership confirmed the issue stemmed from a previous recall that had been repaired on the vehicle and they discussed it with Mazda. They requested Mazda pay for the cost of the failed recall however Mazda is pushing back and demanding I pay half the cost of repair (which I cannot afford) Mazda acknowledged it is a safety issue and I shouldn’t be driving this vehicle and that the necessary repair is the same one as the prior recall.

My main complaint is the steering system. They had the recall fixed at a Mazda dealer in Tennessee before I purchased it. My steering wheel always seem to be crooked I took it to the dealer for an alignment that did not fix the issue of the car going side to side. I took it to three other shops for alignments and the car still seems to go in different directions no matter how correct they get the steering wheel. I also took the car to the dealership about the AC system making loud rattling like a can of nuts and bolts. I had five videos of the issue and let them see them and listen to them they had the car for approximately 32 days and returned it and told me there was no problem. While they had the car I had four different loaners 2025 and 2026 models and none of these models had any of the problems that my 2024 had. They were quiet and there were no issues with the steering rack. My arms actually get tired steering this car down the road because it always wants to go in a different direction it is not a hard steer is very subtle but it keeps you correcting the steering wheel from left to right the entire trip. After returning my car after a month of having it the AC was blowing very poorly and I took it back again. They evacuated the system and recharged it which seem to help however, now it seems to blow cold and then go back to warm sometimes blowing cold or if the car is just parked rather than going down the road. The contact stated that after the vehicle had been driven for 12,000 miles, the tread on all four tires was prematurely worn down by more than 60%. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where the tires were inspected, and it was confirmed that the tread showed premature wear due to the torque from the engine. The contact was informed to continue driving the vehicle for another 3,000 miles before replacing the tires. The tires were replacement tires. The vehicle failure mileage was 37,400. The tire failure mileage was 12,000.

[XXX] CT60 A/S 275/45 R21 I've had issues with two tires, so far. My front drivers tire blew out driving at slow speed. I replaced it at the Mazda dealership. Few months later, the front passenger tire was going low. I had a maintenance appt., so I asked the dealership to air the tire. I can't say if they didn't; however, I had to add air down the street from the dealership. Two days later the tire was down again, so I took it to Sam's Club to repair the leak. The tech there told me he couldn't repair the tire and that it needs to be replaced. Come to find out the tire had wires exposed ALL THE WAY AROUND! Mazda let me leave their lot on Labor Day weekend with steel wires coming out of the tire...mind blowing! Vehicle has 43,000 miles and the radiator has failed. Engine light goes off and on about high engine temperature and limits acceleration. Lost acceleration on freeway and was forced to get off on the freeway shoulder. The temperature gauge jumps from normal to high. Engine was extremely hot and potentially a burn hazard when I opened the hood. I've researched Mazda CX-90 owner's online forums and this radiator failure is happening to the 2024 model with several owners just out of warranty stating leaks spraying engine area. My vehicle has the same green coolant spray dried on the water hoses that many other owners have experienced.

Heavy and sticky steering. While cornering or turning steering wheels can become stuck and does not return to central position and is very heavy. Reported to Mazda USA but they refuse to fix even though this is a know issue with a recall. Concen for the safety of my family while driving the car.

The vehicle displayed an “Acceleration Limited Due to Battery Condition” warning and experienced significantly reduced/limited acceleration while driving. This put the occupants and other motorists at risk because the vehicle could not accelerate normally in traffic. A similar occurrence while merging, crossing an intersection, or traveling in heavy traffic could potentially result in a collision. The vehicle has been taken to an authorized Mazda dealership twice for the same issue and has been out of service for approximately six cumulative weeks. The vehicle is currently at the authorized Mazda dealership and is available for inspection. The dealership has been made aware of and is attempting to diagnose/repair the recurring condition. The exact component or system responsible for the failure is currently UNKNOWN. The issue recurred after the vehicle was previously returned to us following the first repair attempt. Prior to/during the failure, the vehicle displayed the warning message “Acceleration Limited Due to Battery Condition.” Any additional warning lamps, diagnostic codes, or underlying component failures are currently UNKNOWN and are being investigated by the Mazda dealership. Steering wheel feels "sticky" turning left. this is a safety issue as it can potentially cause an accident, the vehicle is currently at a mazda dealership, no warning lamps or messages.

My vehicle experienced a total, premature radiator failure at 43,500 miles, after the manufacturer's factory warranty expired. The vehicle began leaking engine coolant rapidly. This creates a severe safety hazard, as a sudden loss of coolant leads to immediate engine overheating, potential engine stall, and catastrophic failure while driving at highway speeds, increasing the risk of a crash.A certified technician diagnosed the vehicle and provided video/photographic evidence confirming that the coolant leak is originating from a specific crack on the lower section of the driver's side radiator.This is a known, systemic manufacturing defect based on my research. Numerous other 2024 Mazda CX-90 owners on automotive forums have documented the exact same failure occurring in the exact same location on the lower driver-side radiator. The defect required a complete radiator replacement, forcing me to pay approximately $2,204 (with taxes and fees) out of pocket for a premature component failure that should safely last past 100,000 miles. I have digital photographic/video proof of the cracked unit from the service technician available for review.

I bought my 2024 Mazda CX-90 PHEV 10 months ago with 22000 miles on it and no and now has 29000 miles on it. First thing I had a issue with was a Motor Mount was bad, took 12 weeks to get part was told it was safe to drive. Next, since I have had the vehicle I have been having a issue with the transmission making a noise while both shifting from first to second and also on down shifting. It does not happen all the time but is happening. I took the vehicle in to the dealership to have it looked at and they were able to reproduce the issue. When they conferred with Mazda on the issue they were told that it was a known issue but there is no fix for it at this point and was dertermined safe to drive. I also talked to Mazda myself who also told me that it was a known issue but there is no fix and determined it safe to drive. I love the vehicle but to have this noise keep happening and being told they are working on a fix does not make me feel confident in the vehicle with this especially when my wife also drives it. My biggest question is this is a 2024 Mazda and I am told the 2025 also has the same problem. How long is the answer were working on a fix to long to believe that they actually are since there are now 2026 and soon to be 2027 models coming out. I am being told it is only the PHEV vehicles having this issue which explains the reason the PHEV model I believe is being discontinued. Would love to hear from you what my recourse would be. During normal operation of the car the radiator sprung a leak which could have resulted in leaving us stranded with our young kid. this was verified by the dealership who's only solution has been to replace the radiator at our expense. There were no warning lights or other indications of the damage other than coolant leaking from the bottom of the car

I purchased the vehicle used. The issue I have been having is the steering feels sticky, heavy, or briefly resistant when turning. It is very prominent when turning the steering wheel to the left, especially going around corners and rotaries, but even bends in the road. When trying to straighten out after the turn, I have to jerk the steering wheel back to the other direction. This becomes a control issue to keep within my lane. Driving straight the issue is present as the steering doesn’t self‑center smoothly. The issue happens once the car is "warmed up" - if I started cold in the morning, it is not present, but within a few minutes of driving the steering effort changes unexpectedly. The issue has been ongoing since March 2026.

Driving down the freeway, the car throws an error code, reduces speed from 75 to 40 in seconds, with enough time to pull off the freeway. The car has an error code stating "Hybrid battery malfunction." Now the car will not start. The Dealer could not get it started and now wants to charge me for a diagnostic. But from my understanding, they should cover a new battery under EPA regulations (40 CFR Part 85). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Mazda dealership confirmed my car completed the Recall 24V-022, however, I am still experiencing a Sticky steering wheel.
