I have a 2024 Mazda CX-90. I want to report that about two years ago I was contacted regarding a recall (or possibly multiple recalls). The steering would become stiff while turning on curves. I took the vehicle to the dealer, and they reprogrammed something, which fixed the issue for a few months (I don’t remember exactly how long). However, the same problem happened again about three times. I brought the vehicle back to the dealer on January 23, 2026, and they did not have the necessary parts to repair it. I told them I was very afraid to drive the vehicle in that condition because the steering would get stuck when turning on curves, and I was worried that one day it could cause a serious or even fatal accident. The dealer told me they could not do anything at that time. It took 65 days for them to replace the parts, and it was very stressful driving under those conditions. Even after the repair, the vehicle does not feel right. I feel that the steering still moves abnormally, and I am very afraid to drive it like this. Additionally, the brakes sometimes make a strange noise. I don’t know what to do about this situation. I would like to return the vehicle, but I don’t know how, especially since the dealer is no longer responsible. I need help. 2024 Mazda CX-90 complaints
Owner reports filed with NHTSA about this vehicle, newest first and reproduced as filed. They are unverified accounts: one proves nothing, and a pattern across many is the thing worth reading. Back to the full 2024 record →
While making sweeping turns, but predominantly left-hand turns, the steering wheel will get momentarily stuck in a turning position. Sometimes it is more difficult to get the wheels to straighten out than other times. Also, it normally only happens at higher rates of speed, more than 30mph. The steering getting "stuck" in a turning position, especially at elevated speeds, poses serious risks of getting in an accident. Especially if it were to happen into oncoming traffic on a 2-lane highway or something similar.
My vehicle has had the steering recall performed. However I have an issue where the steering is becoming very sticky, mostly when turning left. For example on an interstate clover leaf where steering angle is held constant for a short period of time, the steering feels stuck and requires extra effort to overcome that stuck point. It's alarming. This appears to be getting worse over the past few months.
We believe the evaporative emissions control system (EVAP) / fuel vapor management system on our 2024 Mazda CX-90 MHEV (inline-6 mild hybrid) is malfunctioning, releasing strong raw gasoline vapors. The strong odor occurs everywhere around the vehicle while the engine is running and immediately after shutdown and exit. The problem is intermittent. No visible liquid fuel leaks have been observed. The vehicle and related components remain available for inspection upon request. This creates a direct safety risk: the hazardous flammable gasoline vapors are strong enough to migrate from our garage into our living space (house), posing a potential fire/explosion hazard if vapors accumulate near an ignition source, as well as a health concern from prolonged inhalation for our family. Raw gasoline vapors are highly flammable and should not be present in or around a residence. The problem has been reproduced and confirmed by the dealer on at least one occasion. On the third service visit (dropped off March 5, 2026), the strong raw gasoline odor was so intense upon arrival that multiple dealership personnel, including General Manager Weldon Munsey, witnessed it immediately, and one technician looked under the vehicle to check for liquid gasoline leaks. On the two prior visits, technicians were unable to replicate the issue. The local dealer has informed us that they are aware of two other CX-90s with the exact same problem occurring at the same time within their dealership network. Des
The vehicle is experiencing intermittent steering “sticking”, most noticeable during normal highway driving and minor steering corrections. The steering wheel does not always return smoothly and instead feels resistant before releasing. This condition is unexpected, repeatable, and presents a safety risk, particularly during normal lane-keeping. Especially happens during left turns or keeping in lane while going through sight left curves. Very noticiable when going through traffic circles.
Intermittent and brief increases in steering effort (described as “sticky steering”) while driving. I could also describe as "grabby" steering that causes me to have to grab the steering wheel tightly with both hands to prevent loss of control.
While my wife was driving my 2024 Mazda CX90 gas turbo at the posted speed limit, this vehicle suddenly without warning the car lost most of its power. She was able to move the vehicle to safety by pushing the gas pedal to the floor and achieved a maximum speed of 10 mph. The car was towed to the dealer Koch 33 of Easton, PA. The dealer diagnosed the problem as a throttle body issue. This is the second incident whereby this vehicle lost power in a similar manner but for a different reason (fuel pump) and had to be towed to the same dealer. I filed a complaint with your agency about 18 months ago. [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Since taking delivery of this vehicle in June 2024 from Kenny Ross Mazda, I have experienced a persistent and unresolved error message on the vehicle’s display screen relating to “Multiple ECUs Reprogramming.” This error message first appeared within the first twelve (12) months of ownership and has remained continuously present on the vehicle’s instrument cluster/infotainment screen despite numerous repair attempts. The defect substantially impairs the use, value, and safety of the vehicle, as it creates constant uncertainty about the operational status of critical electronic control systems, diminishes the vehicle’s resale value, and interferes with my normal use and enjoyment of the vehicle. Photographic evidence of this error message is attached as Enclosures 2 through 5. I have brought the vehicle to Rohrich Mazda, an authorized Mazda dealership and service facility located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on at least seven (7) separate occasions over the past twelve (12) or more months in an effort to resolve this defect. Each time, the dealership has been unable to eliminate the error message. During the course of these repair attempts, the dealership initially believed the issue was related to a recall (Safety Recall 7024J — Multiple ECU’s Programming), but subsequent repair attempts have failed to resolve the condition. The dealership has contacted Mazda Corporate technical support on multiple occasions, and Mazda Corporate has been unable to provide a solution. As of th
The contact owns a 2024 Mazda CX-90. The contact stated that the lower control arm of the front suspension was making a clunking sound. No warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that the failure was related to Technical Service Bulletins: 01-007-25 and 02-002-24. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed that grease needed to be added to the ball joint. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 16,000.
Steering feels stucked and when navigating in a curve. You have to put an effort to get the steering wheel unstuck.
Steering locks when turning/ in a curve trajectory. Must manually overpower wheel to break locked position when coming out of the turn. No warning lights or sensors alerted. Vehicle will be brought to dealer for service for determined solution. Available for inspection.
The steering wheel becomes sticky when turning at highway speeds and around 30 MPH. This problem happens consistently when turning at certain speed. Lot of extra effort needs to be applied to bring the sticky steering wheel back to the original position. This extra effort makes the turning very dangerous as the sticky steering wheel doesn't smoothly reverts back to normal position. Any extra effort applied to bring the steering back to the normal position results in a jerky, sudden, and rash movement of the vehicle. Without the conscious application of this unnatural and abnormal extra effort, the vehicle is more prone to accidents during turning particularly at highway speed. Contacted the nearest local dealer. Local dealer outright refuses to diagnose the problem without charging the fee even though car is well under warranty. Please take action so that this safety issue can be corrected. Also, Mazda needs to improve customer service by informing the dealer(s) not to refuse a basic safety related diagnostic unless a hefty diagnostic fee is paid by the the owner of the new vehicle.
My vehicle has already had recall remedy for 24V-022, still experiencing "notchy" steering (momentary increase in steering effort). Mid corner the steering wheel locks into place, I can let my hands off the wheel and the steering wheel maintains the steering angle, I have to forcibly move it out of the lock to either increase or decrease turning radius. This is a recurring issue every time I drive the vehicle.
Sticky steering overactive lane assist
While driving the 2024 Mazda CX-90 and making turns the steering wheel become difficult to straighten/reduce deflection from the turned position. This has caused the vehicle to depart from our lane in traffic on the freeway multiple times. This has caused safety risk for ourselves with traffic barriers as well as with vehicles in other lanes. It is possible to over power the “sticking point” however it seems to be getting worse. A mazda service center has been contacted and they denied that they are required to remedy this because they already completed the recall for this issue in the past. The vehicle is available for inspection. The issues seems to be somewhere in the steering linkage or steering wheel mechanism based on the feel of the issues.
Continuously experiencing sticky steering when making turns and curves/bends on the road. Have to use a lot more force to get the steering wheel back to the initial position or a safe position.
Incident 1: While driving my 2024 Mazda CX-90 PHEV at low-to-moderate speed, the vehicle suddenly and completely locked up without any driver input. There was no gradual slowing or normal braking behavior. Instead, the vehicle went immediately from moving to an abrupt, forceful stop, as if maximum braking was applied instantly. There were no warning lights, alerts, or audible signals before or during the event, and there were no obstacles or vehicles in front of me. Incident 2 (approximately 6 months later): A second, nearly identical event occurred while I was accelerating or cruising. The vehicle again immediately locked up and came to a sudden stop with no warning and no driver input. There was no progressive braking or deceleration. The stop was instantaneous and extremely forceful, causing me to lurch forward into the steering wheel. There were no hazards or objects present that would justify emergency braking. Additional Details: Both events involved an immediate, full-force stop with no transition or gradual braking. There were no dashboard alerts, warning sounds, or messages during either incident. The behavior did not match any known system alerts (such as door open or limp mode). The dealership was unable to reproduce the issue and found no diagnostic trouble codes. This creates a serious safety risk, especially the risk of being rear-ended during normal driving.
My 2024 Mazda CX-90 has the STICKY WHEEL condition however it does not show-up as REcall for my VIN.
The vehicle caught fire while in operation/driving and later engulfed entie cabin. No warning lamps, in-vehicle alerts, or other warning signs were activated or displayed. Car has not yet been inspected.
Experiencing sticky steering and sudden increased steering effort. Previously addressed by recall 6524A.
Started the car to go to work and the check engine light came on, I stop started flashing and wouldn’t turn off. Message says there is a malfunction with the hybrid system and to visit Mazda dealer. I had to drive it to work, so it drove fine. But the lights never went off.
I have taken my car to service in January, and it has had all the recalls fixes done, supposedly. Just the last two weeks I have been feeling a notchy sensation when steering, it resists and then jumps to the next notch when turning. Not a smooth feeling as it did during the first year of usage.
Steering gets stuck or requires intense effort to move from center, specially on freeway or slight turns. feels dangerous specially when being on the freeway. took it to get looked at & they want me to pay for a repair that is listed on other cars that were recalled.
According to your recall that states: Recall date 2024-01-17 Recall no. 24V022000 Mazda North America Operations (Mazda) is recalling certain 2024 CX-90 vehicles. An assembly issue with the worm gear in the steering system may result in a sudden loss of power steering assist. Recall consequence Loss of power steering assist while driving increases the risk of a crash. My car is not included in this recall according to my VIN number, however my car is doing the same thing described above in the recall. I am requesting that ALL Mazda CX 90 vehicles be in this recall. I took it to the dealership and although there hasn’t been a serious injury yet, there absolutely could be if it is not fixed.
Description of the issue: While driving, the steering wheel suddenly develops a significantly increased resistance. This resistance can only be overcome by applying noticeably higher force. The steering feels as if it is “sticking” or momentarily binding. Driving conditions where the issue occurs: - Frequently on highways - Also on rural roads - Occurs both while cornering and while driving straight ahead
Stick steering wheel. Excessive force need to steer while making a turn.
Purchased the Mazda Cx-90 2024 and was told that all recalls had been cleared and completed. Steering recall for worm gear and grease had been cleared. Not consistent but when taking turns will have a sudden jerk and increase in steering, especially with left turns. called and reported to Mazda dealership and told by mechanic that this needed to be reported due to an undergoing investigation on recalls that were not truly resolved by Mazda. The vehicle was cleared of inspection in 2024 prior to our purchase. No wrecks but concerned this could lead to one.
I am reporting multiple ongoing safety and reliability issues with my 2024 Mazda CX-90, which have persisted despite multiple service visits and the vehicle being under warranty. Issues include: •Premature tire wear: OEM Falken tires worn to unsafe levels (approximately 3/32”) before 15,000–20,000 miles •Faulty fuel gauge providing inaccurate readings •Intermittent headlight malfunction, creating visibility and safety concerns •Battery failure requiring replacement at approximately 24,000 miles •Engine malfunction warnings advising the vehicle should not be driven •Loud and abnormal brake noise •Remote start system failure The vehicle has been out of service for an extended period (10+ days), and I no longer feel it is safe or reliable to operate. I am particularly concerned about the overall safety of this vehicle given the pattern of system failures and reports of similar issues. Mazda has not provided a resolution beyond continued repairs, and I have lost confidence in the vehicle’s safety.
Mazda did the "increase in steering effort" recall 03/18/2024. At 10,455 miles. Campaign 6524A. At that time, we had never experienced problems with the steering. But now, with 33, 627 miles, the steering has a sort of kickback feel when in a sustained turn; either direction. It's most noticeable on an interstate highway on or off ramp. Seems as if it's trying to center the steering wheel to straight ahead. It's a mild, but definite concern. I've contacted Mazda, and the dealer where we have our CX-90 serviced.
At highway speeds, even with lane keeping assist disabled/turned off, if the ADAS is turned on LKA seems to remain active. Steering effort is unpredictable making it difficult to maintain a line through the corner. Effort will suddenly decrease resulting in oversteer. This is particularly dangerous when next to other cars, guardrails, barriers and the like. The behavior is greatly reduced with all ADAS off. This is largely repeatable over the last 18 mos/24,000 miles.
On several occasions, both starting from stop and at 45 mph, on harder acceleration while operating as EV in normal mode, the vehicle will start accelerating then SLOW suddenly and hard for a few seconds before engaging the gas engine and accelerating as expected. Dangerous when pulling into traffic or attempting to pass.
The service brake system on my 2024 Mazda CX-90 produces a loud, high-pitched squeaking noise during normal low-speed braking, including when stopping at traffic lights, reversing, and parking. The issue has been present and occurs daily under normal driving conditions. The brake pads and rotors are available for inspection upon request. The squeaking reduces my confidence in braking performance and causes me to alter my braking behavior, particularly in stop-and-go traffic and when braking near pedestrians. In a vehicle used daily for family transportation, unreliable or degraded brake performance puts my safety and the safety of my passengers and other road users at risk. The problem has been reproduced and confirmed by an authorized Mazda dealership. On February 25, 2026, I brought the vehicle to Gunther Mazda for this issue. The dealer attempted to address the brake noise at no charge but acknowledged this is a known issue related to the brake pad material and stated no permanent repair is currently available. A copy of the repair receipt from this visit is available. I also contacted Mazda Motor of America directly. A case manager was assigned and confirmed the issue is known across the CX-90 model. Mazda offered a $250 service credit but provided no repair or resolution. Mazda issued Service Alert SA-016/24 (Brake Noise, Judder and Dragging Diagnosis and Servicing) acknowledging brake noise, judder, and dragging on the CX-90 and other models. Despite this bulletin, the
The 2024 Mazda CX-90 has a steering issue. The steering wheel sticks and is jumpy when turning. I took it to the dealer and demonstrated the issue by driving slowly, turning the wheel, releasing it and watching the car continue to turn while the wheel remained in the position I had left it.This anomaly was easily overcome by applying reverse steering pressure or by accelerating the vehicle. After inspection by the Mazda tech at Crown Mazda in Holland, Mi. the work summary stated in part:"This is a design matter, and not an actual problem. No problem found".
The car had a recall repair to the steering system done due to it being sticky. But the issue has coma back again while driving on ramps and curvy roads. The steering requires significantly more effort and also has a feel of a ratchet. It also feels like a ratchet, when moving very slow and making tight turns. The car also had a recall battery replacement done for the MHEV battery and now the problem is back again within a few months and it shows "Hybrid system failed" and "Engine malfunction".
I am reporting a serious safety defect involving unintended acceleration in my 2024 Mazda plug-in hybrid vehicle. On multiple occasions, the vehicle has suddenly accelerated without input from me, creating dangerous situations where I nearly lost control and risked a collision. This issue has occurred at least four times since January 2026. I previously brought the vehicle to an authorized Mazda dealership, where it remained for approximately two weeks; however, they were unable to replicate the problem and returned the vehicle, stating no faults were found. Despite this, the unintended acceleration continues to occur intermittently. I have attempted to follow up with both the dealership and Mazda corporate without receiving a response. This ongoing issue poses a significant safety risk to myself, my passengers, and others on the road.
The steering wheel sticks when turning causing it to lock up unless excessive force is used. [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Steering harder to move; suddenly harder to turn steering wheel.
Symptom Description: The vehicle is experiencing "sticky" and "notchy" steering, characterized by a sudden increase in physical resistance (friction) when making small steering corrections at highway speeds. The steering feels like it "binds" or "catches" before releasing, making smooth lane centering difficult.
The problem is with my tailgate. The mazda cx-90 has an automatic trunk open/close function. My wife and I use teh trunk as directed. The other day we go to open the trunk (with the button) and there was a "pop" as if the door was trying to open under force or tension. Ever since then the trunk will not shut properly, if at all. The entire trunk is now misaligned and cannot close properly. There was no accident or damage to the trunk (other than the misalignment). The Mazda dealership I took it to even confirmed no damage othat than the trunk misalignment. I'm not sure how or why this is happening. There are dozens of reports of this same issue happening on multiple threads on the internet. The trunk gets misaligned towards the passenger side of the vehicle. Please see the following internet forums outlining this issue. [XXX] [XXX] The trunk is misaligned that the driver side of the trunk is not completely shut. The seal is not closed, allowing air, weather, etc. into the car while in operation. There is no light or warning indication that anything is wrong. The vehicle was taken to the mazda dealership and they did everything they could to not solve or address the problem. They advised me to take it to a body shop and stated that "we can confirm the trunk is misaligned, but no part appears to be malfunctioning or broken so we are unable to warranty this." I spent an entire day without my car for them to "confirm that the trunk is misaligned." My hunch is Mazda knows they hav
Several times over the past year I have had a weird steering wheel issue. A couple of times it occurred on on and off highway ramps. As I was turning I was not able to immediately (1/2 to 1 sec) correct the steering to continue straight. Finally the steering became unstuck and everything was fine. At first I thought it was just me until I have noticed others reporting a sticky steering on my 2024 CX-90. I plan to approach my dealership this week, but my VIN is not in the range mentioned on the NHTSA 6524A/24V-022.
Steering bind, notchy steering, off-center steering
What failed and is it available? The factory-equipped Yokohama Geolandar tires (specifically the X-CV model, 265/55R19) have experienced extreme, premature wear. They are currently on the vehicle but are in a failed state. How was safety put at risk? As of March 11, 2026 (22,567 miles), tread depth has reached 1/32" and 2/32". This renders the vehicle legally unroadworthy in Pennsylvania and creates a severe safety risk for hydroplaning and increased braking distances. Has the problem been confirmed by a dealer/manufacturer? Yes. Dealer records from July 2025 (12,402 miles) show the tires were already at 4/32", meaning they were 70% worn after only 10 months of use. The dealer contacted the tire manufacturer, who denied a defect claim. Mazda North American Operations (Case #00423913 as filed with Mazda Customer Experience Center) also formally denied assistance on March 10, 2026. Were there symptoms or warning signs? No dashboard lights appeared. The issue was discovered during routine maintenance. Based on the extremely rapid and uniform wear documented so early in the vehicle's life (at 12k miles), I believe this is either a defect in the factory-supplied tire materials or a systemic issue with the vehicle’s factory alignment/suspension geometry. As the consumer, I am left with an unsafe vehicle that the manufacturer refuses to rectify.
The contact owns a 2024 Mazda CX-90. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds and attempting to make a left or right turn, the steering wheel failed to return to center. There was an unknown warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed with an electrical failure. The local dealer was contacted; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired due to the cost. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000.
Steering - Since early in February, while driving, usually at higher speeds, the vehicle intermittently pulls to the left and the steering wheel feels stuck requiring a strong motion to pull it back to the right. Overall steering feels harder than normal. I'm concerned that a failure in the steering components of this vehicle may cause an accident. I have an appointment with the dealer for inspection. No warnings or lights appeared to indicate there was an issue. Mileage is under 18,000
When I am driving in a curve situation the steering wheel gets in an almost locked position and has a stick to it where I have to use force to break the position to correct the steering as I drive through the curve. I took vehicle to Mazda dealership located 2512 Laurens Rd Greenville, SC 29607 and they advised they could not find an issue. This is absurd! This is a safety issue!!
Our CX90 continues to have a very sticky steering issue which causing significant oversteer when attempting to “unstick” the wheel. This has lead to numerous incidents of potential accidents.
The steering sticks and becomes hard to correct when turning or curving to the left. It can also be jerky. It’s becoming worse and having to pull it back to the right causes some over correcting.
Steering recall does not appear to fix the sticky steering recall. recall (24V022) The initial problem involves a, faulty, high-friction worm gear in the electric power steering assembly. While driving car and turning … the feedback thru the steering wheel is jerky/sticky/unusual.
Good morning, i'm [XXX]. i have taken untold number of caps off of windshield washer fluid reservoirs so i could put in fluid. this is the first time i've ever had issues with the little flange on the underside of the cap breaking. this is the second time it has happened and this time i was extra extra gentle with removing it and attempting to put it back on since they cost over $20, which in itself is abhorrent price for such a cheap piece of junk, but one of the little cheap plastic flanges broke again. this is plain and simple highway robbery. this is a $50k suv and this is what we get? this is horrible and should not be allowed to stand. i know these companies MO is to cut their cost and make their parts as cheap as possible and sell it for more and more. please please please look into this and make mazda make a quality cap that customers can depend on instead of being outraged at. mazda is making millions off the people who trust them to make quality parts. i called a mechanic at our local mazda dealer when i was trying to put the cap back on cause i didn't want to force anything. he knew exactly what the problem was. he said these caps are pieces of junk and most people just go without it. this is unacceptable to me and i'm sure everyone who's had this unfortunate experience. we are supposed to go without a cap on a $50k vehicle???? Again please please please make mazda make a quality cap for their customers. thanks, [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF
NOTES FROM SERVICE TO MY CX90 MAZDA FROM HILEY MAZDA OF HUNTSVILLE 256-578-1915 During my last oil change with Maza on Nov. 12, 1pm the dealership noticed my windshield wiper fluid leaking into the radiator. They had to order a new radiator and repair this problem. They gave me a loaner CX90 for a week until a new radiator and parts arrived. On Dec 03 new radiator came in and my Mazda dealership and they replaced the radiator and windshield wiper mechanisms. Now on [XXX] I noticed my coolant reservior was empty while I was filling my windshield washer reservior. I drove my vehicle to the nearest Kelley Car Parts store and they filled the reservior for me and suggested I get the vehicle to Hiley Mazda asap. I called Mazda on Monday March 2 and they said to bring the vehicle in on March 3 at 1pm. They are now keeping my vehicle to find out what the problem is. I believe they never replaced the new radiator properly. I now have been give a CX50 as a loaner while they again try to fix my car. I am [XXX] and should not have to deal with this. A Mazda 2024 CX90 with only 20, 202 miles on it should not be having these issues. I researched and have found out the Mazda CX90s are having major problems with the radiators leaking from the sides and customers have to have their radiators replaced. This problem should not be happening to a vehicle I purchased brand new [XXX]. I believe Mazda should replace my vehicle with a new vehicle. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFOR
