Forward Collision Avoidance › Adaptive Cruise Control
Filed Nov 10, 2023NV

Cruise control safety concern: car detects vehicle in front when there isn't and brakes sometimes hard abruptly due to misdetecting a vehicle ahead in a different lane as is it was in the car's same lane specially in curves or if the vehicle ahead but in a different lane is casting a shadow in front of car. Blind spot: blind spot detects a vehicle in the blind spot even when there's no vehicle. Noticed that car sometimes detects vehicles on an opposite direction road as if they're in the blind spot and it can set off the blind spot monitor.

While using the radar cruise control, the vehicle will aggressively apply braking pressure, without warning and risk losing control of the vehicle. The risk of being rear ended is frightening at highway speeds. This usually happens through turns, and the Mazda mistakes vehicles in opposite lanes as being in the same lane. This has occurred multiple times with different people.

When a large object like 18wheeler is in right lane and you are in left lane the car thinks it is in your way and the vehicle brakes hard. Very dangerous. Has happened numerous times.

My car detects a vehicle in front and slows down in the following scenario - when on cruise control and passing a big truck from the other lane and the road is bent toward the right or left. It's so annoying and I might get rear-ended one day as the vehicle behind me doesn't expect that I slow down. Very dangerous safety issue!

Problem noticed shortly after purchasing the car in May 2023, and is a constant issue. Always: when driving, and when I press the the button to the left of the gearshift to activate the 360 View Monitor, the default image shows a useless, mostly black, image. (Scrolling to the other two, non-default images, they are useful images.). Instead, it gives the appearance of a black gap in the space around the car. I am attaching several still images from a video. Safety concern, because the image is not correct, and this is a listed safety feature.

Safety issue, random, with 360 View Monitor cameras malfunctioning. This camera issue has happened randomly at least 7 times since I purchased the car in May 2023. The most recent occurrences were 10/26, 09/27, 09/23, 08/03/2023. What happens: when starting the car, 360 View Monitor should show images of surroundings. Instead, no image from the cameras shows; it’s black on the screen. Colored lines show the direction the car is backing up or moving forward, but the rest of the screen is black. When it occurs, it will remain in this faulty condition for the entire drive. The button on the console (left of gearshift) that turns on the image cameras when driving will show the same image. It will remain in this disabled mode until the car is turned off for a long time. I’ve tried turning it off and letting it sit until the computer sounds like it has shut off (2-3 min, perhaps), and restarting the vehicle — this does not cure the problem. The car seems to need to be turned off for a longer time. If I turn the car off and return in, say, 2 or more hours, the issue is cured (temporarily). Attached are still images from a video. This is random in occurrence and seems to be completely unpredictable when it will will happen. Safety issue.

Gear shift can easily slide from Drive to Neutral (and from Neutral to Reverse) if a book, purse, or other object is on the center console and slides forward and touches the gearshift when vehicle comes to a stop. Photos attached show me shifting from D to N with my pinky finger. This is a safety problem because if the center console is flat, making it easy for someone to place an object on it. When the car needs to stop somewhat quickly, the object on the console slides forward and pushes the gearshift into Neutral. This happened to me while I was in traffic, resulting in confusion as to why I could not drive the car forward after my stop. I then realized the car had been shifted into neutral. I shifted the car back into Drive and removed the object from the console. Safety issue for anyone beginning to drive this car wi the out this knowledge. Could also occur if a passenger (unknown to the driver) places an object on the console.

After turning vehicle off, two incorrect warnings appeared on the dash monitor. 1) “Rear Seat Alert. Check Rear Seats….” 2) Warning image and sound regarding the rear bumper. However, there were no objects in the back seats (except for a light sunhat that had been there for weeks), and there was nothing near the left rear bumper. In fact no objects for probably 10 feet from the bumper. I noticed this once, 10/24/2023 but it may have occurred before and I didn’t notice (I frequently get out of the car quickly when at my destination). Safety concern since the safety features are not giving correct warning signals.

When using adaptive cruise control and passing a large trailer or truck in the left lane (the trailer or truck is in the right lane), the adaptive cruise control system incorrectly detects the trailer or truck to be in the same lane as the CX-90 and in some situations can slam on the brakes causing a potentially dangerous situation.

Forward Collision Avoidance › Adaptive Cruise Control

The adaptive cruise control sometimes misreads the driving situation, especially on curves, and applies strong braking when there is no vehicle ahead in your lane. Especially when the vehicle in the adjacent lane is a truck. This could easily lead to being rear ended by a close following vehicle that is not expecting you to abruptly slow down. I had to turn it off on a trip on mountain interstates. I will address this at my first oil change at the dealer. I have had adaptive cruise on several other vehicles and never experienced this problem.

Hi, When passing a truck which is on the right lane of the car, the car recognise the truck as a car in it's current plane and putting a sudden brakes. I almost got rear ended couple of times in the last one month. Please request Mazda to fix this Adaptive Cruise Control issue. When ACC is on and speed is set, if the vehicle comes up onto a tractor trailer in the right lane, the CX-90 will think it is actually in front of my vehicle and abruptly slow my vehicle down, potentially causing myself to be rear ended.

Forward Collision Avoidance › Adaptive Cruise Control

The adaptive cruise control (ACC) system in the CX90 is experiencing a high number of false positive incidents, which could lead to accidents. The system consistently thinks that a vehicle in the right or left lane has moved in front of the CX90, mainly when going around a curve. This is especially common when passing 18-wheelers, where the system will start alerting the driver with a noise and flashing alert to depress the brake pedal. The system then begins emergency braking procedures, even though the 18-wheeler or other vehicle has not actually moved lanes. This rapid deceleration at highway speeds is incredibly dangerous, especially for vehicles and large trucks following behind the CX90. In all of my incidents, the system has detected a vehicle in the other lane, but the vehicle has made no deviation towards the CX90's lane.

- Driver's side view mirror, vibrates constantly at speeds over 55 mph - When changing lanes, or looking at blind spots on the highway objects in driver's side mirror are blurry / blurred, due to the vibrations coming through the mirror. It causes focusing issues, ensuring objects and other cars are or aren't close by. I immediately look to passenger side mirro, which has no vibration or blurred vision at all, look to rear view mirror, which is also fine. - I had Mazda technicians confirm the problem, in fact it is a problem on many others, including the CX-90 loaner I had while the Mazda dealer had my car. - Apparently, it is a "Known" issue, but Mazda does not have a fix for it. - Very concerning, a brand new vehicle doesn't have vibration absorbing material built in to the mirror to stop this from happening - If you roll down the window, and put your finger on the mirror glass, you will get a clear picture of what is behind you / beside you.

The drivers-side mirror experiencing a vibration at speeds greater than 40 miles an hour distorting the view, making it blurry, particularly at night. This problem has been inspected by the dealer and they say that there is currently no fix from Mazda. This ONLY occurs on the drivers-side and apparently is widespread on the trim for this car that has the folding mirrors. T This is a safety issue and Mazda should be required to implement a fix.

I use car washes that require you to put the car in neutral and the car wash has a device that pulls the car through. Upon exit, you are supposed to put the car into drive and drive away. But unfortunately the car will not go into drive. An error message pops up that tells me I can’t go into drive. I then have to quickly hit the brake, put the car in park, and then into drive so I can pull away. This is dangerous if there is a car behind you in the car wash because you have almost no time to react. This has happened at least 5 times, and next time I’ll have the camera ready to capture the message that comes up. It seems as though the car only allows you to move forward in neutral for a certain amount of time or distance before it has the error.

The contact owns a 2024 Mazda. CX-90 The contact stated while driving at undisclosed speeds, the blind side detector inadvertently illuminated. The contact stated that the blind side detector randomly illuminated without an object being nearby. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the blind spot sensors failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, but the failure could not be duplicated. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was provided a case number. The failure mileage was approximately 1,300.

During normal driving conditions going down a state highway, the vehicle lost speed with adaptive cruise control enabled. Noticing the vehicle was losing speed, I depressed the accelerator pedal. The accelerator pedal was unresponsive and unable to accelerate, I had to maneuver off the highway. Luckily, the car behind my vehicle was far enough behind me and my vehicle was going fast enough that I was able to coast to a safe stop on the side of the highway. A message popped up on the instrument cluster screen informing me to shift the transmission to Park in order to use the accelerator pedal. If this had happened on a road with little to no shoulder, the vehicle would have come to a sudden stop with nowhere to maneuver to. This would have created a dangerous situation for me, and any vehicle directly behind me. I then parked the vehicle on the side of the highway and with the vehicle still on and engine running, I again tried depressing the accelerator pedal. Again, there was no response from the pedal. I then turned the vehicle off, and restarted the vehicle. I was finally able to use the accelerator pedal and returned to the highway and my drive. The dealership was contacted a few hours after the incident, and the vehicle has yet to be inspected or problem reproduced. The vehicle is a 2024 MY and has been owned for only one month. Unfortunately, this incident is only one of five total electrical issues I have had with this vehicle. This was the most important issue to repor
