Part 573 reports
Child Seat › Vehicle Latch Anchor23V339000
Filed May 11, 2023668,187 vehiclesGeneral Motors, LLC

Defect. General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2020-2023 Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain vehicles. The four rear-seat lower child seat LATCH anchorage bars may have excessive powder coating, which could prevent a child seat from being installed with the anchorage bars. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 225, "Child Restraint Anchorage Systems."

Risk. The inability to install a child seat with the LATCH anchorage bars could result in an unsecured child seat, increasing the risk of injury in a crash.

Remedy. Owners are advised to install child seats using the vehicle's rear seat belts until the remedy is complete. Dealers will inspect the latch anchorage bars, and remove and replace the finish, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed June 2, 2023. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is N232403240.

While driving, I was getting ready to turn into the left lane then I noticed the brake pedal was hard as a rock so I immediately pulled over into a community. I knew it was safe I could barely stop the vehicle because the brake pedal was not giving at all, but eventually, I was able to stop I believe if the terrain wasn’t uphill, I wouldn’t have been able to stop my husband came and assisted with driving the vehicle to the dealership at a very low speed and hazard lights, which was about 20 miles away. This was very scary, but we made it since then the dealership has diagnosed it and it has something to do with brake assist power pump failure, which is documented in a class action lawsuit in Michigan with the same exact problem I’m in the process of getting it fixed down to the camshaft still waiting on final expenses, which I’m sure will be in the thousands we contact the GM to try to get some help with the repairs and they offer us a $350 to help out only if our all change record are acceptable not acknowledging the faulty mechanism power vacuum pump that created all of this

My 2022 GMC Terrain lost power and stalled while I was driving, creating a safety risk because I could no longer maintain speed in traffic. The incident involved a police response and a safety-related tow costing $250. On XXX, OnStar recorded diagnostic trouble code P129F. Tire Choice subsequently replaced the fuel pump control component, identified in my records as GM part number 13554821, at a repair cost of $493.25. I have supporting diagnostic, repair, towing, and police documentation, along with evidence of the removed part. GM’s later vehicle history printout showed zero open field actions for my VIN [XXX]. I am concerned that this failure may be related to the fuel pump power control module condition described in GM campaign N252516900, although I have not confirmed that connection. I request that NHTSA investigate the loss of propulsion and whether the campaign’s coverage should include my vehicle. There is already recall for SOME 2022 GMC terrains but my vehicle is not included in the recall. The vehicle experienced a complete loss of infotainment/audio functions immediately following a GM over-the-air software update. The OnStar indicator turned red, all vehicle audio including turn-signal sounds stopped functioning, and the rear backup camera stopped displaying an image. The backup camera failure creates a safety concern because it eliminates a federally required rear visibility safety feature. GM has advised me that software updates do not cause these problems and instead reveal an underlying issue. However, GM Preliminary Information bulletin PIT5971B identifies a software anomaly associated with loss of audio and a red OnStar LED on affected GMC Terrain vehicles, which closely matches two of my symptoms. I am concerned that a software-related defect may be causing or contributing to the simultaneous loss of multiple vehicle functions, including the backup camera. The loss of the backup camera is a significant safety concern because it prevents me from seeing the area directly behind the vehicle when reversing. The simultaneous loss of multiple functions occurred immediately after the GM software update and has persisted despite completing the recommended reset/troubleshooting procedures. GM is currently requiring me to pay for diagnosis despite the failure occurring immediately after the OTA update. I am requesting that NHTSA document and investigate this potential safety-related software defect. GMC Customer Service case 107120047

There were no warning lights before the stall and after the engine would not run to get any other indicators that something was wrong. Driving to work and the vehicle suddenly turned off in the middle of the road just as I had turned the corner onto another street leaving me in a dangerous spot. There was no warning lights or anything it just shut off and would not start back up. Sister had to wait with vehicle while brother in law drove me to work. Had to have the vehicle towed to Tinney Chevrolet GMC service department and after they completed their service found out the FUEL PUMP MODULE failed. I was told GMC has open recall for 2022 GMC Terrain on this exact issue but for some reason my VIN number doesn't come from the HUB they issued the recall from? I find it suspicious my vehicle had the exact same part fail and left me in a dangerous situation with traffic coming around the corner as well as the inconvenience of family having to come take me to work and sit with my vehicle waiting for the tow truck. I had a bill from the service dept. for this repair of $671.15 and the towing company was $125.00 I would hope GMC would look into the fuel pump module issue for all 2022 GMC Terrain vehicles.

A diagnostic test was ran on my vehicle and the only code that came back was issues with my fuel pump system. A recall for the issue is in place. However, my VIN number is not included. I took the vehicle to the closes GMC dealer and they replaced the fuel pump module. Within 2 weeks, the engine light came back on. I contacted the dealer and was instructed to keep driving the vehicle, the vehicle maybe resetting itself. I did and the engine light went off. Within 2 more weeks, the engine light came back on. I took it to the dealer and now they are telling me I need a new fuel pump. This leads me to believe the problem was not fixed and anything related to the fuel pump should have been examined and/or fixed.

I am filing a safety complaint regarding my 2022 GMC Terrain after experiencing a sudden infotainment system failure that also disabled my backup camera functionality. The infotainment screen in my vehicle suddenly went completely black without warning and without any physical damage to the vehicle. The screen failure caused the backup camera to stop functioning as well, creating a significant safety concern while reversing and parking. The vehicle currently has approximately 50,000 miles. When I contacted the GMC dealership regarding the issue, I was informed that this is a common problem with GMC Terrains. However, because my factory warranty expired only weeks before the failure occurred, GMC declined to provide any financial assistance or goodwill repair coverage despite acknowledging the issue is commonly seen. This defect directly impacts federally required rear visibility safety equipment and creates unnecessary risk to drivers, passengers, pedestrians, and surrounding vehicles. Backup cameras are an essential safety feature, and the sudden failure of the infotainment system removes access to that safety function entirely. I believe this may be a widespread defect involving the infotainment and electrical systems in the 2022 GMC Terrain and request that NHTSA investigate this issue further for potential recall or manufacturer accountability.

My GMC Terrain started, but then stalled as I tried to pull away from the curb & drive. When I tried to restart it, it turned over but would not start. My AAA Autoclub servicemember used his "check engine" interface machine to determine that the fuel pump module was not communicating with the car, though there was half a tank of gas. This issue has been a well published problem with this year, make & model online, but GMC is not including my VIN# in the recall. I had the car towed to my mechanic & his diagnostic tests revealed the same problem - fuel system module. I would have been in danger if there had been any traffic on my residential street. If the car had driven a few blocks & then stalled, I would have been on a busy boulevard. There were no warning signs prior to the stall. There is a "check engine" icon lit up now because it is going to require service. My mechanic can't fix it, so I need to arrange another tow to get it to a dealership service department. Thank you

It had to be towed using a dollie to the repair shop. I was told that the module fuel pump power control had to be replaced. The shop owner then went on to tell me that this very same brand (GMC), has been entering his shop at a shockingly alarming rate with this same problem. I'm not very pleased with having to have this repair done as my vehicle is no longer under warranty. It cost me $432.18. I'm not rich and am living in a time as many others are that don't have a bunch a money laying around to throw away. I find this very distressing as well as unfair to my family and I to have to have this replaced on a relatively newer vehicle. If you are aware of this problem, it out to be addressed. Three times in one month, four months after purchasing vehicle from dealership, the vehicle stalls while driving and will not restart. After running codes, each instance prompted a P129F code for the fuel pump driver control module. After the second incident, the vehicle was inspected by a qualified repair shop and no issue or stored codes were found. When the issues occur and the car stalls, the Check Engine Light and a Low Battery warning message can be seen on the instrument panel. When this issue occurs, the vehicle's gears cannot be shifted manually. The vehicle must be force shifted by hand, via transmission components under the hood, in order to place the car into neutral.

The backup camera on my vehicle stopped working completely, displaying a blank screen. All other cameras and sensors continue to function normally. The dealership identified the issue as the camera having “shorted out” and is replacing it with a completely new unit. The faulty camera is currently with the dealership, and I assume it would be available for inspection upon request. It is being replaced and I will receive a bill in a few days (Wednesday March 10, 2025). The backup camera is a critical safety feature designed to prevent collisions with pedestrians, objects, and other vehicles when reversing. Without a functioning camera, visibility is significantly reduced, increasing the risk of an accident, especially in crowded parking lots or areas with low visibility. The sudden and unexplained failure of this system is a serious safety concern. Yes, the dealership confirmed the issue when I brought my vehicle in for inspection. They determined that the camera had “shorted out” and ordered a full replacement. The vehicle has been inspected by the dealership, which is handling the replacement. To my knowledge, no manufacturer representatives, police, or insurance agents have examined the issue. There were no warning lights, error messages, or other indications before the failure. The backup camera was functioning normally, then suddenly stopped working, displaying a blank screen. No unusual pattern of severe incidents in the complaint record.

Complaint counts track how many cars were sold and how long they have been on the road as much as they track quality. A common model from 2013 has had a decade to accumulate reports; a rare one from last year has not. The signal worth weighing is in the severity columns, in whether the same component keeps appearing, and in whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.

Recall repairs are free for as long as the recall stands. Check whether a specific car still has open work at NHTSA's VIN lookup.
