2022 Freightliner Cascadia

Defect. Daimler Trucks North America, LLC (DTNA) is recalling certain 2020-2023 Freightliner Cascadia and 2022 Western Star 49X vehicles previously repaired incorrectly under recall numbers 23V073 or 22V817. The brake modulator valves on the front axle may corrode and cause the vehicle to pull to one side during braking initiated by Electronic Stability Control (ESC) or Roll Stability Control (RSC).

Risk. Brakes that pull to one side may cause a sudden change in vehicle direction, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy. Dealers will replace the brake modulator valves, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed November 8, 2026. Owners may contact DTNA customer service at 1-800-547-0712. DTNA's number for this recall is F1039. Vehicles repaired under the prior recalls will need the new repair completed.

Defect. Daimler Trucks North America, LLC (DTNA) is recalling certain short wheelbase 2020-2024 Freightliner Cascadia, 2021-2024 Freightliner M2 Business Class, 2022 Western Star 4700, and 2020 Freightliner Classic Cascadia vehicles. The vehicle is equipped with an electronic stability control system and tire combination that may understeer during a J-turn. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 136, "Electronic Stability Control Systems on Heavy Vehicles."

Risk. Understeering during a J-turn may increase the risk of a crash.

Remedy. DTNA will replace the tires, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed June 19, 2023. Owners may contact DTNA customer service at 1-800-547-0712. DTNA's number for this recall is FL971.

Defect. Daimler Trucks North America, LLC (DTNA) is recalling certain 2017-2023 Freightliner Cascadia, 2020-2022 Freightliner Business Class M2, and 2022 Freightliner 114SD, and 2020-2023 Western Star 49X, 2021-2023 Western Star 47X, and 2021-2022 Western Star 57X vehicles. The brake modulator valves on the front axle may corrode and cause the vehicle to pull to the affected side during an Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) braking event.

Risk. Brakes that pull to one side during an ACC braking event may cause a sudden change in vehicle direction, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy. Dealers will inspect and replace the front brake modulator valves, as necessary. Some vehicles will have a software update which will alert driver when a replacement is required. All repairs will be performed free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed beginning October 16, 2023. DTNA's number for this recall is FL-958. This recall expands and replaces previous recall 20V-390. All vehicles previously repaired under recall 20V-390 will need to have the new remedy performed.

Defect. Daimler Trucks North America, LLC (DTNA) is recalling certain 2022 Freightliner Cascadia vehicles. The electronic parking brake may not engage when the vehicle is keyed off, which may result in a vehicle rollaway. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard numbers 121, "Air Brake Systems," and 136, "Electronic Stability Control Systems on Heavy Vehicles."

Risk. A vehicle rollaway increases the risk of a crash.

Defect. Daimler Trucks North America, LLC (DTNA) is recalling certain 2022 Freightliner Cascadia vehicles. The Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) fault codes will not be stored when the vehicle is keyed off for more than 5 seconds, impairing its diagnostic features and warning light. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 121, "Air Brake Systems."

Risk. An ABS system that does not store fault codes may fail to warn the driver of an issue, or prevent proper repair. Either of these scenarios can increase the risk of a crash.

Defect. Daimler Trucks North America, LLC (DTNA) is recalling certain 2022 Freightliner Cascadia vehicles. The emergency braking system may not engage, resulting in the loss of braking ability.

Risk. A loss of braking ability can increase the risk of a crash.

Defect. Daimler Trucks North America, LLC (DTNA) is recalling certain 2022-2023 Freightliner (FCCC) MT45, MT45G and 2022-2023 Freightliner Cascadia vehicles. The steering gears may have been incorrectly assembled, which can cause the gear to fracture.

Risk. A fractured steering gear can cause a loss of steering control, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy. Dealers will inspect and replace the steering gears, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed December 28,2022. Owners may contact DTNA's customer service at 1-800-547-0712. DTNA's number for this recall is FL-938.

Defect. Daimler Trucks North America LLC (DTNA) is recalling certain 2022 Freightliner Cascadia vehicles. The double check valve may trap air which can impair service brake function and lock the rear axle while the vehicle is in motion. A locked rear axle may cause brake components to fail or increased stopping distance.

Risk. Brake component failure and increased stopping distance may increase the risk of a crash.

Remedy. All vehicles have been remedied, therefore no owner notification letters are necessary. Owners may contact DTNA customer service at 1-800-547-2712. DTNA's number for this recall is FL-936.

As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard numbers 121, "Air Brake Systems," and 136, "Electronic Stability Control Systems on Heavy Vehicles."

Risk. Disabled ABS and ESC may lead to loss of braking or stability control, which can increase the risk of a crash.

The contact's former employer owns a 2022 Freightliner Cascadia Commercial vehicle. The contact stated that while a company's technician was performing a preventative maintenance service on the vehicle, an exhaust leak was discovered; however, the technician informed the contact that the vehicle was safe to drive. While driving 65 MPH, the contact fell asleep, causing the vehicle to drift into the median. Another driver approached the vehicle and sounded the horn, waking the contact, who then pulled over to the side of the road. The contact reported the incident to a manager, who suspected potential carbon monoxide poisoning and advised the contact to seek medical attention; however, a senior manager instructed the contact's manager that the contact had to complete the delivery services or resign. The contact received medical treatment from a neurologist and a pulmonologist. The neurologist informed the contact that he sustained acute dementia because of the carbon monoxide inhalation. The contact also experienced post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and a fear of driving, and the contact was receiving Social Security Disability assistance. The contact associated the failure with Daimler Trucks North America Emission Recall Campaign Number: FL922, which was previously performed on the vehicle. A second technician inspected the vehicle, confirmed the exhaust leak, and informed the contact that it posed a life-threatening risk. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was no

Premature failure of TPMS sensors in 3 tires. Battery alert on them. Only 23,000 miles on vehicle

ABS system is shutting causing all safety systems to shut down including cruise control. Freightliner is overlaying the harness for abs sensors at the owners expense. There should be a recall for them to fix this issue. They are very aware of what's going on and are doing nothing to fix the issue.

Illegal communication device on and inside truck harss and stalk driver across state lines divert driver attention while driving

The flex flang behind the turbocharger has broken off. This lets the hot exhaust gases blow directly onto the underside of the cab and onto electrical wires. And other parts of the truck

The contact owns a 2022 Freightliner Cascadia. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V817000 (Service Brakes, Air, Forward Collision Avoidance) however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the Axiomatic Braking System independently activated. The failure had occurred approximately 15 times and occurred intermittently. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer who confirmed that it was a known issue. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 115,629. Parts distribution disconnect.

The contact owns a 2022 Freightliner Cascadia. The contact stated while reversing at 10 MPH, the brake caliper seized and the two front driver’s side inside tires exploded. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and diagnosed with front brake modulator failure. The contact was informed that the front brake modulator valve needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The contact stated that she had contacted the dealer and the manufacturer about the failure and was informed by the manufacturer that the VIN was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V817000 (Service Brakes, Air, Forward Collision Avoidance) however, the dealer would not honor the recall repair. The failure mileage was approximately 201,285.

The contact owns a 2022 Freightliner Cascadia. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 60 MPH, the service brakes were applied without input from the driver. The Forward Collision-Avoidance warning light was illuminated. There was no object in the roadway to activate the feature. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer where a diagnostic test was performed. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The contact stated that the failure was related to NHTSA Action Number: PE23010 (Forward Collision Avoidance). The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 148,000.

There was brake failure during an accident or 4/23/21 on the Massachusetts turnpike where there was a fatality. The air dryer filter broke off and my question is regarding nhtsa part 573 safety recall report 22v-443. I would like to know the two simultaneous events in this recall test. I realize the production date is a month or less after the recall date of vehicles.

CMV traveling on a four lane divided highway approached another cmv that had overturned in the road ahead some time prior to that time. The approaching CMV did not get any warnings and the collision mitigation features did not activate on the truck, giving the driver no warning of eminent impact which did occur

Front end collision with camery hybrid at 35 to 40 mph. Vehicle was rented from Miller Leasing in Hartford CT. Miller ordered truck without Detroit assurance 5.0 or front desk brakes. On collision the screw in air fryer broke off causing loss of brakes. Air dryer was mounted on the frame passenger side exposed to possible damage. After traveling a couple hundred feet the truck smashed the camery in the guardrail and there was a fatality.

The system isn't working properly. The AEB(automatic emergency braking) has been braking when I was driving on ice for no reason almost making cars get skids. It's essential to not brake hard on a slippery road. But that system put me in dangerous conditions. Not only one time but several. I was afraid to drive with them on. Also, I tried to see how the truck goes without it, I unplugged it and the truck was braking properly and never had skidded on slippery roads. And funny thing my acceleration was better, and fuel consumption mile/gallons increased from 5.6 to 6.7. I know manufacturers are forced to install AEB, but I don't want to die from it. I don't need AEB and want you like the government to protect my life and right to disable legally AEB and lane changing system from the truck. I want to take responsibility 100% for any accidents front end collisions or losing control of a vehicle. I am a rally driver, I know how to handle equipment in severe conditions, I know physics and know-how to go off-road, drift. I don't want some system like AEB to held me liable if there would be an accident caused by it. I want you, as protector of our rights of life, liberty and pursuit of happiness to allow drivers to choose by the will to legally disable the AEB system taking responsibility. I take care of road safety and even want to buy one day a Cab Over Engine semi-truck because I am watching the road all the time. I hold a safe following distance and never did a hard brake in 3 ye

FYI, this is the second 2022 Cascadia I’ve driven with this issue. The forward radar sensor detects a target 3 feet in front of me and slams on the brakes if the cruise control is set. I can over ride it by turning off the CC, but then I get constant alarms for following too closely and collision alerts. The issue has generated 4 critical events to my company. This happens randomly, with no warning whether I am in traffic or not. I believe this to be a significant safety issue at worst, and a very unpleasant driving environment at best. According to my company, this is not the only two tractors in which this occurs. My previous tractor was looked at by a Freightliner dealer who failed to repair the issue.
