Defect. Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2022-2024 Maverick Hybrid and 2020 Escape Hybrid vehicles. The Hybrid Powertrain Control Module (HPCM) software may cause the vehicle to shift into neutral unexpectedly, causing a loss of drive power.

Risk. A loss of drive power increases the risk of a crash.

Remedy. Dealers will update the HPCM software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed February 12, 2026. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 24S33. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall will be searchable on NHTSA.gov beginning January 15, 2026. This is an expansion of Recalls 24V330 (24S33) and 25V133 (25S16).

I have already had the cv axles replaced under the extended customer satisfaction program in January 2026, but today while doing a cross country move, the outer boot on the drivers side showed significant grease loss, and the inner boot on the passenger side tore off with a very severe clunk, noise, and shake while braking and accelerating. Thankfully the cv axle did not separate, but a failure could have resulted in a loss of control. This will be going to the dealership tomorrow. No warning lights, messages, or symptoms that I could observe before the 1000 mile trip across yesterday and today.

My 2022 Ford Maverick Hybrid has twice suddenly entered limp mode and experienced a substantial loss of power. The first incident occurred on or about XXX. After leaving my subdivision, I turned onto [XXX], which has a posted speed limit of 55 mph. The vehicle immediately lost power and entered limp mode, and the engine and wrench warning lights appeared. The weather was clear and sunny. I was able to drive several miles at substantially reduced power and return home. On XXX, at 83,600 miles, Louisburg Ford retrieved DTC P1061, determined that Ford TSB 25-2454 applied, and reprogrammed the required modules. The second incident occurred on 9/13/2026. My husband and I were returning home after traveling through [XXX], [XXX], and [XXX]. We were driving northbound on I-35 near mile marker 182 at the [XXX] exit, just south of [XXX]. It was completely dark and storming, with rain and lightning, when the vehicle again entered limp mode and lost power in highway traffic. We were fortunate to have cellular service and a gas station nearby. Otherwise, we could have been stranded in dangerous conditions. On XXX, at 106,338 miles, the same dealer retrieved the same P1061 code and again applied TSB 25-2454 by reprogramming the PCM. The same loss-of-power condition, code, and Ford-prescribed repair recurred within approximately 11 months and 22,738 miles. The dealer advised that there is no guarantee it will not happen again. I am concerned that this sudden loss of acceleration or motive p

What component or system failed, and is it available for inspection? The right frame engine mount, differential/rear mount, and upper engine mount were all torn or broken. Both front CV axle shafts also needed replacement. Repaired 8/17/2026 by Miami County Auto, Louisburg, KS (invoice #13092). No, I don't have the parts anymore. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? The vehicle developed a wobble/vibration under acceleration that was reported as "getting worse" — pronounced enough to visibly shake objects in the cabin. The shop noted the engine mounts were torn/broken, allowing excess engine movement, which increases risk of further mount or drivetrain component failure and loss of vehicle control, especially at highway speeds or during hard acceleration. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent shop? Yes — confirmed and repaired by an independent shop (Miami County Auto) on 8/17/2026 at 104,205–104,211 miles. Not taken to a Ford dealer. Has the vehicle been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance, or others? No — only inspected and repaired by the independent repair shop noted above. Were there warning symptoms before failure, and when did they first appear? Yes — a wobble/vibration under acceleration that subsided when off the throttle, and progressively worsened over time before the repair. Originally I thought it was a recently repaired tire that was unbalanced. Took it to Ford dealership to rebalance. They said

On 7-2-26, my 2022 Ford Maverick Hybrid was brought to College Station Ford to receive the remedy for mandatory Safety Recall 24S59 (NHTSA Campaign 24V684000) regarding the frozen Rear View Camera display image. Prior to this service, the vehicle’s electrical, starting, and hybrid systems functioned flawlessly without error.Immediately following the completion of the recall service, which required a software flash of the Connected Touch Radio/Audio Control Module (ACM), the vehicle suffered a catastrophic module network failure resulting in a permanent no-start condition. The vehicle's Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and Body Control Module (BCM) have glitched into a permanent High-Voltage System Isolation Lockout loop.Independent professional laboratory load-testing has certified that the vehicle's low-voltage 12V auxiliary battery is healthy, fully charged, and completely functional. However, the vehicle can currently only be turned on by attaching an external 12V jump-pack directly to the battery system. This external voltage spike manually overrides the corrupted software communication loop, forcing the vehicle's electrical relays to close. The dealership has refused to remedy this botched recall programming, claiming the physical hybrid high-voltage lines have suddenly failed. Because a low-voltage 12V jump-pack cannot power or repair broken high-voltage traction lines, the vehicle is suffering from a software-induced safety lockout directly caused by the failed execution

Driving on highway, approximately 65mph when all of a sudden the "door ajar" symbol on instrument panel lit / sound dinged, and the passenger who had their elbow on the door screamed. The passenger side door unlocked and "opened" as in it unlatched. It did not open all the way for her to fall out, but it was no longer fully closed. This is a 2022 vehicle. This happened for the first time in 2026 after 34k miles. There is an active recall for the same make / model but for some reason my VIN is not included. I'm pretty sure it should be after this experience.

While driving at normal speeds. Car completely stopped working. Dashboard flashed to get to safe area. I could not shift the car neutral. Steering became stiff. The lights and infotainment was still on but the car had no power to accelerate. Had this been on the highway I would have been in a collision since my car went to the right very quick. Once car was stopped could not shift to neutral.

Front end of vehicle suddenly started to shake violently when accelerating. Issue was reproduced any time when accelerating. No warning was indicated by the vehicle. Car was undrivable above 50 mph. Vehicle had 25K miles. Dealer reproduced issue. Diagnosed it as a catastrophic failure of both CV joints and front bearing(s). Dealer would not release vehicle as it was undrivable due to extreme safety issue. Parts arrived after a week and both CV joints & front bearing(s) were replaced. Online reporting for this vehicle shows this is a repeated issue which the manufacturer has a customer satisfaction bulletin but no recall.

The contact owns a 2022 Ford Maverick. The contact stated that while her husband was driving 55-65 MPH, the vehicle shut off. The driver was unable to pull over to the side of the road. The driver was able to jumpstart the vehicle and continued driving. The contact stated that the failure recurred while pulling into a parking lot. The dealer was contacted and informed the contact that the vehicle could not be picked up due to safety concerns. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed, and determined that a new 12-Volt battery cable overlay was needed, and the current battery cable needed to be disabled. The dealer related the failure to the Ford Customer Satisfaction Program: 22B39 (2022 Maverick HEV No Start Condition), but the contact was informed that the Customer Satisfaction Program had expired. The vehicle was not repaired due to the cost. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but denied assistance. The failure mileage was 80,000.

Just picked up vehicle after having a new battery installed. Was getting pop up on dashboard every few seconds that electrical saving mode was active. Then all of a sudden the truck shut off while driving about 45 mph on a busy road. Dash said switch to neutral to start vehicle which i tried but nothing happened. Truck coasted to a stop and would not start or even shift into neutral to push it off of the road. The dashboard was flashing pretty much every warning possible including stop safety, shift system failure, parking brake , battery saver active etc. The truck continued to not start or shift. Tow truck was called and it was towed home.

My 2022 ford Maverick is constantly sometimes several times a day and sometimes several times a week , but since 6 weeks after purchase I have been getting powertrain fault , engine fault and hybrid battery fault alerts from my ford pass my check engine light comes on my s service wrench light comes on also and my vehicle has reduced power. As well as my battery is constantly needing to be jumped. The dealership says my Battery is fine although I’ve already replaced it twice at my exspence. I’ve had to pay for diagnostics and pcm updates supposedly to fix these problems but no resolve. My vehicle goes into reduced power while driving 75 mph up the interstate and will not excellerate causeing the vehicle to coast to a stop. After sitting a while it can be started and driven. Today I received all three faults at 10:20 am so I went to my ford.com and done a health check and it says my vehicle is healthy with no engine or power train faults. But my ford pass alerts , my dashboard warning lights , and the performance of my vehicle says otherwise. I have been put in many situations on high speed roads and my vehicle will not accelerate. Often times it is necessary to jump my battery for I can move my vehicle. These issues are a constant safety hazard to all the drivers on the road when a vehicle suddenly loses power at high speeds. After 4 years of fighting with ford for a resolve I need help. I have seen numerous recalls issued addressing these very issues but they are not issued

Experienced excessive wobbling/shaking during acceleration. Ford replaced both axles at 38K miles. 30K miles later I am experiencing same issue. Replacing axles this frequent is abnormal and is an indicator that parts being used are not meeting the requirements needed for this vehicle.

I received the 2022 Hybrid Ford Maverck XLT on March 2023, and had first 12V battery replacement on August 2023 as it was dysfunctional leading to car stalling. On 01/11/2026, the truck suddenly got stalled during drive due to the dysfunction (8.0V) again of the 12V battery, which triggered several error codes. The 12V battery was replaced again on 01/12/2026. I drove the truck home and found later that system alert with "Electrical Power Saver Active". The truck stalled again on 01/13/2026 at traffic light near school zone. The police had the truck towed to Tire Express per SOP. The truck was then diagnosed at local Ford dealer as: "multiple accessory / entertainment modules have software level that may be contributing to 12V battery drain / degredation". Obviously, this is the truck defect can may pose catastrophic risk to driver and surrounding drivers. I searched Google and found more 2022 Maverick with such serious issue! My total cost of repair and towing from this defect is $1145.11. Thank God that my family was safe during the sudden stalling while driving. I know there is no such recall but Ford should be responsible for the recall to avoid future risks and paying off my cost. Please consider this as a recall! Thank you!!!

Fuel tank failure at 18,000 miles and less than 3 years of ownership. I noticed that the vehicle had a strong gasoline smell when I was around it. When looking under the truck, I could see that there was a fuel leak coming from the fill pipe inlet into the fuel tank itself. Took the vehicle under warranty to the ford dealer, and was told that the hose clamp was loose connecting the fill pipe into the fuel tank itself. Was sent on my way with the vehicle, and noticed a smell of gasoline and fuel not even two months later. Took it back to the dealer and was told that they were unable to replicate it. Once the weather got cold again, took the vehicle back after noticing a much larger leak and smelling fuel, and am now being told by ford that the fuel tank does in fact need to be replaced as the tank is leaking from the fill pipe inlet. I am no longer under warranty and was quoted $1100 for this repair. Not only do I find this to be a safety concern as leaking gasoline is extremely dangerous and flammable (plus there are vapors in the air in my garage) but felt that my dealership did not do their due diligence to resolve this issue properly, and now I am on the hook for an $1100 repair that should’ve been taken care of when the vehicle was under warranty. No warning lamps were lit alerting me to this problem, I noticed it by smelling gasoline in my garage near the vehicle.

My 2022 hybrid Maverick suddenly lost power as I was driving at 45 MPH. There was no warning lights; the entire dashboard went black. I lost all power including lights, speedometer, and power steering. Additionally, and more concerning, I lost all brake functionality so I could not stop the vehicle, even pressing the brake very hard. The parking brake switch also did not work due to the power loss. The brake pedal would not budge until suddenly after the vehicle completely lost all momentum. In the process blew through a stop sign and I could've easily been killed, or worse, killed other people as I had no control of the vehicle as it coasted. Thankfully nobody and nothing else was harmed as I was the only one on the road, it was just traumatic. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and preliminarily inspected. They decided they want to address a technical safety bulletin for a "no start condition", though the conditions did not match this situation exactly. But they also stated the hybrid/powertrain warranties did not apply, so I rejected the repair due to high cost. It is uncertain if the repair they want to do would fix the issue. It is currently available for inspection upon request, though Ford may try to buy it back soon. It has not been inspected by police or insurance. The only light I can think of was a month before I saw a brief "Charging System Service Soon" warning, but it was only on momentarily (did not persist). I am unsure if this is related.

Complaint volume is well above typical for a single model year.

Complaint counts track how many cars were sold and how long they have been on the road as much as they track quality. A common model from 2013 has had a decade to accumulate reports; a rare one from last year has not. The signal worth weighing is in the severity columns, in whether the same component keeps appearing, and in whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.

Recall repairs are free for as long as the recall stands. Check whether a specific car still has open work at NHTSA's VIN lookup.
