2022 Ford Maverick Hybrid complaints

I shut off my Maverick to get out and get some water, when I got back in my truck, it had NO power. It was as if the battery was dead. I had it jump started and drove home. In the middle of a intersection, while turning, the truck shut off completely. NO power. When this happens, you have no emergency lights and can not put it in neutral to push it off of a road. If you are on a back road with no lights, you can't turn on the hazards nor push the vehicle off the road out of traffic. It was the wiring harness that went bad. My Maverick is at the dealer right now waiting for the part to come in. This is becoming a common issue for the Truck across the US. The dealer confirmed it was wiring harness. A cop jumped started the truck for me the second time. I had to have somebody follow me home as it kept dying in the middle of the road on the way home. I consider this a safety issue as you have no lights to keep from getting hit by another vehicle and no way to put it in neutral so you can get it out of the road. There were no warning lights or symptoms that it was going to fail, it just stopped working.

The brake behavior is inconsistent. Sometimes the vehicle brakes hard just by barely pressing the brake. Other times are the opposite, takes more pressing power to stop the vehicle. Also, sometimes the brake makes a very sudden stop that even feels like I hit something with the vehicle.

I returned from a short trip, 3 days to a truck that was completely dead. I received a notice via my ford mypass app that remote features were being shut off to conserve battery life. Upon arriving I could not open the door using the factory keypad, nor open the doors through the app. Required a call to Ford and tow truck driver broke into car to retrieve key that was left in the glove box. Car required a jump. After starting this hybrid, no engine combustion required, I drove approximately 20 miles and parked the truck. That night I received the warning again and started the car, ran it for 15 minutes then drove the truck to the dealership. After 9 days, dealership indicates that they replaced 12 v battery, and car is ready for pickup. Before I picked up the truck, I have the same low batter warning on the app and remote features have been turned off. After taking the car for a quick ride to the local park we came home and parked. When we tried to lock the car- nothing happened. The car was dead. Battery was tested and was fine. Car could not even be jump started to disengage the parking brake. Car has been at the dealership for over 3 weeks. The problem is a part that connects electrical to engine (winding basket) is defective. Not sure if this could have happened while the car was in motion? Scary thought.

On 6-1-22, our truck died in the driveway - it wouldn’t lock with the key fob. Ford assistance was called for a tow. Tow truck driver jumped our truck to load it onto the tow truck. Dealership it was towed to confirmed the battery wiring harness issue. We’re still waiting for the part to arrive but we did get a loaner vehicle yesterday (6-23-22).

Rolling up to a stop applying gradually increasing pressure to the brake pedal, instead of slowly coming to a halt, vehicle does not react to your braking input until you apply double the pressure at which point a loud clunk from the front wheels occur (which you can feel through the steering wheel) and your wheels lock up.

Hybrid Maverick completely loss of power overnight, multiple error warning received on Ford Pass APP. Jumped and at dealer awaiting resolution. Many others with same problem on Ford Maverick Forum. Vehicle can lose all power while driving or parked. Can be very risky/dangerous for vehicle operators.

Vehicle had a check engine light go on for voltage. At 4K miles. Later that day loss complete power nothing electrical worked and it had to be towed to dealership. Stayed at dealership service for over a week trying to diagnose it.

Loss of brake response at slow speeds. Brakes sometime lock up at slow speeds, causing sudden and complete stop, accompanied by a loud banging noise from the engine bay.

Total loss of electrical functions. Vehicle was unable to turn on, and non responsive leaving driver and passengers stranded. This can happen at any time, randomly. No warning lights or symptoms appeared. This has been happening to other drivers of Hybrid Mavericks.

I am concerned about the ability of the windshield to protect drivers from road hazards. It appears that almost every stone that is propelled by other vehicles cause a star chip on the windshield and then proceeds to crack. I am afraid this will weaken the windshield and a larger projectile may not be stopped. I was informed that this vehicle has a special windshield to reduce noise. With cost cost of recalibrating the safety systems, no one can afford to replace the windshield evert 10000 miles.

The vehicle switched to Neutral from Drive as the driver made a right turn at low speed, the weather was a little wet and rainy and about 68 degree outside.

Some 2022 Ford Maverick Hybrids have a faulty seal and leak oil onto transmission and clutch. I was accelerating on the HWY when engine light came on (solid). Noticed it needed more time and effort to accelerate. When parked and ran idle vehicle would suddenly jump- the rpm would shoot up sporadically for several minutes. There were no prior symbols or symptoms to this issue, and the vehicle is new. It happened exactly at 128 miles. Issue was apparent less than 12hrs of ownership. Took it to the Ford dealership which I purchased the vehicle from on Monday, I took possession Friday. The service advisor diagnosed it with transmission clutch slippage (P0811) and that the dampener (clutch?) would need to be replaced. Still waiting on them to email me the exact part number. Allegedly, a seal was loose which allowed oil to contaminate the transmission, causing slippage. This could prevent bodily harm, vehicle accident, and death. Pulling out into a busy road or merging with traffic requires a maintained speed or anticipated acceleration - this issue could prevent a driver from reaching this and result in a miscalculation or collision. I, myself, almost experienced an accident when merging off the HWY and the 2022 Ford Maverick would not accelerate. The engine light turned off after 2 hours of gentle driving in which a slippage did not occur after it was allowed to run hot long enough for the oil to burn. This gentle driving carried me through the weekend until I could drop it off M

My wife was t-boned in the passenger door. No airbags deployed nor did the seat belts lock up. I got a notification saying "the restraints control module has indicated the occupant classification system is present but not configured." The side curtain airbags did not deploy causing my wife and my 9 year old son to hit their heads on their windows.

Engine surging while idling. The catalytic converter will get red hot. Also a rattling noise that sounds like rocks near the driver side wheel well in side the engine bay. When using the auto brake system at a stop light when cold you can feel the engine surge and feels like the brake is going to let loose.

When idling in the cold, the engine runs rich. Them dumps excessive fuel in the catalytic converter causing it to become red hot, followed by a nauseous smell.

When using remote start (cold mornings here) the truck will run for 15 minutes. Both inside and outside the vehicle I smell what seems like plastic burning. The last time it happened I looked under the hood while it was dark out and what appears to be a catalytic converter on the back side of the motor was glowing red hot. There are high voltage lines that run within inches of this (among other things) and I am concerned there is a fire risk.
