1 safety recall

Part 573 reports
Steering › Steering Wheel/Handle Bar92V052000
Filed Apr 14, 199220,413 vehiclesFleetwood Ent., Inc.

Defect. THE STEERING COLUMN SHAFT NUT RETAINING CLIP MAY BE MISSING. UNDER CERTAIN CONDITIONS, THE LACK OF A RETAINING CLIP WILL ALLOW THE NUT TO WORK LOOSE AND THE STEERING WHEEL TO SEPARATE FROM THE STEERING COLUMN.

Risk. STEERING WHEEL SEPARATION FROM THE STEERING COLUMN CANRESULT IN COMPLETE LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL AND A VEHICLE ACCIDENT.

Remedy. INSPECT STEERING ASSEMBLY FOR A STEERING WHEEL NUT RETAINING CLIP. IF CLIP IS MISSING, INSTALL A STEERING WHEEL NUT RETAINING CLIP, OR HAVE A DEALER INSPECT AND INSTALL A CLIP. FLEETWOOD ADVISES OWNERS NOT TO OPERATE THE MOTORHOMES UNTIL A STEERING WHEEL NUT INSPECTION AND CLIP INSTALLATION IS COMPLETED.

Reading this record

No unusual pattern of severe incidents in the complaint record.

Complaint counts track how many cars were sold and how long they have been on the road as much as they track quality. A common model from 2013 has had a decade to accumulate reports; a rare one from last year has not. The signal worth weighing is in the severity columns, in whether the same component keeps appearing, and in whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.

Recall repairs are free for as long as the recall stands. Check whether a specific car still has open work at NHTSA's VIN lookup.

Most recent recall on file: Apr 14, 1992. Source: NHTSA Office of Defects Investigation.
