The engine cooling system failed due to a coolant loss issue caused by an internal engine problem. The vehicle experienced repeated coolant loss, overheating, and was later diagnosed with a head gasket failure. The failed components were repaired/replaced by an Acura dealer and may be available for inspection upon request through repair records and replaced parts if retained. The failure created a safety risk because the vehicle overheated while driving and while idling in traffic. Loss of coolant and engine overheating could result in sudden loss of vehicle power, engine damage, or a breakdown in unsafe locations such as roadways. The issue was especially concerning because the symptoms occurred without an immediate warning that allowed enough time to safely prevent the failure. Yes. The coolant loss and overheating concern was confirmed by service providers. An Acura dealer mechanic performed testing that indicated combustion gases were present in the cooling system. The vehicle was later inspected and repaired by an Acura dealer, who replaced the head gaskets and related components. The vehicle was inspected by Acura dealership personnel during diagnosis and repair. Acura was contacted regarding the failure and a request for goodwill assistance was submitted. The vehicle has not been inspected by police or insurance representatives regarding this issue. Yes. Prior to the final failure, the vehicle showed symptoms of coolant loss and overheating. Car goes into limp mode all the time and fuel cuts on and off

Visibility/Wiper

I came out to my car which is parked on my driveway and went to put something in the trunk. When it opened I saw and heard things falling and looked to me like pebbles and was confused. After looking closely, my rearview window was shattered and it was pieces of the rearview glass window that was broken and was falling down. I had driven the car an hour prior and there was no windshield damage nor did anything hit my car (ie: an airborne rock). I picked up pieces of the broken glass from my driveway to prevent any punctured tires. I immediately called my local Acura dealer to arrange for a replacement. The car is currently there and the repair is going to cost approximately $1500. There was no indication of this issue happening (nothing hit the window, etc). I have numerous pictures and a video of the whole rear windshield. The problem has been confirmed with the dealer and the glass hole continued to get larger as I was driving the car from my home to the dealership which is less than 5 miles. I have done a quick online research and see that this spontaneous breakage of the rearview window has happened with other 2019 RDX owners. As my car is outside of the warranty, I am told this is an out of pocket expense which is not right. I am just fortunate that this did not occur while I was driving my car.

The front sunroof glass on my vehicle shattered without warning while the vehicle was in motion and without any impact, collision, or contact from an outside object. I had the vehicle inspected at AutoNation Acura [XXX]. The dealership's own service advisor confirmed in writing that the remaining glass "seems to be facing upward, which is an indication that it may have shattered due to pressure, as opposed to any outside influence," and stated explicitly that there was "no evidence of mistreatment/accident found during inspection." I am enclosing a copy of that email. Despite this documented finding, Acura denied my warranty/goodwill claim for the repair telling me the glass had been broken by an outside force — a conclusion that directly contradicts the dealership's own written inspection. This is a known, documented issue Acura Technical Service Bulletin 23-004 acknowledges spontaneous glass breakage as a known issue on this platform. My incident is consistent with that bulletin: no external impact, and physical evidence consistent with breakage from internal pressure rather than an outside force. I believe this points to a defect that Acura has already identified internally but is not consistently honoring at the claims level. This could have easily caused a wreck when it shattered or had the covering not be closed the glass could have injured anyone in the car and I travel with a [XXX] baby often. I own a 2019 Acura RDX that I purchased new in 2018. It has now experienced three separate major water-intrusion events. The first two occurred while I lived in [XXX], including an incident in approximately 2021 that required an insurance claim, extensive repair, and about a month without the vehicle. The current incident occurred in [XXX]. Because the same issue has occurred in two different states and multiple times, I do not believe it is an isolated environmental event. In the current incident, I discovered pooled water beneath the front passenger-seat carpet and in the rear cargo area where the vehicle’s audio-system equipment is located. The audio system has stopped working. Before I discovered the water, the interior windows repeatedly fogged while the vehicle was parked and unoccupied, indicating excessive moisture trapped inside the cabin. The water may have been present for several days. The vehicle appears to require removal or lifting of the passenger seat and carpet to dry the underlying padding, inspect wiring and connectors, and prevent mold, corrosion, and further electrical damage. The rear cargo area and audio components also require inspection for moisture and corrosion. Prior repairs did not permanently resolve the water intrusion. The suspected source is the panoramic moonroof drain system or another water-management/body-sealing defect, but the exact source has not yet been confirmed. I am concerned that recurring water intrusion can cause electrical fai

The factory-installed LED Daytime Running Light (DRL) system on my 2019 Acura RDX has failed. The passenger-side DRL is completely inoperative, and an authorized Acura dealership documented that the driver's-side DRL is beginning to fail as well. The affected components are available for inspection upon request dealership has declined to provide further documents and American Honda Moto Daytime Running Lights are a safety-related exterior lighting system designed to improve vehicle visibility to other motorists. The failure of one DRL and the developing failure of the second DRL may reduce vehicle visibility and create a potential safety concern. On July 3, 2026, Cerritos Acura inspected the vehicle and confirmed the condition. The dealership's written diagnosis states: "Recommend passenger headlight assembly due to daytime running light out. Recommend driver's headlight assembly due to daytime running light going out as well." The dealership recommended replacement of both headlight assemblies. The dealership found no evidence of collision damage, misuse, unauthorized modifications, or water intrusion. The DRL is an internal LED component that is not serviceable separately and requires replacement of the entire headlight assembly. The vehicle has been inspected by Cerritos Acura, an authorized Acura dealership. To my knowledge, the vehicle has not been inspected by police, insurance representatives, or any government agency there is no record of any only with the dealership.

The center infotainment display went completely black, with only the backup camera feed still functioning. There was no audio output at all (radio, navigation prompts, or Bluetooth). The dealer diagnosed and replaced the FAKRA service cables under Acura TSB B23-025, which addresses this exact display-blank/audio failure. After the cable repair, the screen remained black and audio remained completely non-functional. The dealer then determined the tuner/AV control unit had failed, confirmed by swapping in a working unit from another RDX which restored function. Acura Client Relations was contacted and declined to provide any coverage for the tuner unit replacement, stating the TSB only covers the cables themselves, despite the failure occurring immediately downstream of the covered repair. The vehicle is safe to drive but loses infotainment display, audio, navigation, and rear camera guidelines during forward driving, which is a distraction and safety concern. The vehicle remains available for inspection. No warning lamps preceded the failure; the screen simply went black."

I am writing to report an incident involving the rear window of my2019 Acura RDX that shattered unexpectedly. The incident occurred while the vehicle was parked at my workplace. I was notified by a co-worker that the rear window had shattered. Upon inspection, there was no obvious sign of a collision, vandalism, or other event that would explain the damage. A glass replacement company was called to my workplace to replace the shattered rear window. After examining the vehicle, the technician advised that there was no evidence of an external impact, such as a rock strike or other object, that would have caused the glass to break. Because the window appeared to shatter without any apparent outside force, I am concerned that this may indicate a defect in the rear glass or its installation. I respectfully request that this incident be documented and reviewed as a potential safety-related issue. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Vehicle: 2019 Acura RDX (Technology Package) I am reporting a serious safety issue involving sudden loss of engine power while driving. On March 14, 2026, I filled my gas tank before traveling approximately 1.5 hours out of town. The vehicle operated normally that day. The following morning, during snowy and icy conditions, while accelerating in traffic, the vehicle suddenly lost power and stalled. Multiple warning lights illuminated on the dashboard (“Christmas tree” effect), and the steering became very stiff, making it difficult to safely maneuver the vehicle out of traffic. I was able to restart the vehicle, but warning lights remained on. The next day, while driving on the highway under normal conditions, the same issue occurred again. While accelerating, the vehicle suddenly lost power and stalled in traffic, creating a dangerous situation. In response, the fuel pump inside the gas tank was replaced; however, the problem persists. The vehicle continues to display warning lights and still loses power when accelerating. I contacted an Acura dealership after seeing reports of a fuel pump recall for similar vehicles, but I was told my VIN was not included. Despite this, the symptoms match known fuel pump-related issues. This defect poses a serious safety risk, especially when driving at highway speeds or in traffic, as sudden loss of power and steering assist can lead to a crash. No injuries have occurred yet, but the issue is ongoing and unresolved. I am requesting investi

I own a 2019 Acura RDX Advance with a head-up display (HUD). The HUD projection surface suddenly became warped and cracked after sun exposure. This was not gradual deterioration or normal wear and tear—it happened abruptly. The resulting distortion directly affects the clarity of the HUD and creates visual interference in my forward line of sight. This impacts my ability to clearly see the road and can be distracting while driving, creating a potential safety hazard. This appears to be a known issue reported by other owners of the same vehicle model, suggesting a defect in materials or design that cannot withstand normal environmental conditions like sunlight. On March 5, 2026 my son and I were sitting parked in my 2019 RDX A-Spec SUV when we heard a loud cracking sound and my rear windshield shattered. We got out of the car and did not see anyone or anything nearby that could have impacted the windshield. There were no objects on the ground or inside of the car that could have caused the break. I called 911 to get emergency assistance because at the time we weren't sure whether it was possible that someone had thrown or shot something at our car. I also called my insurance company while onsite to file a claim. The police arrived and could not find any sign of foul play but noted a comment report to document the incident. We had to drive the car home with shattered glass falling into our car as we drove very slowly home. We were shaken and very confused as to why and how this could have happened. Confirmation: The failure was inspected and confirmed by McGrath Acura of Westmont on February 27, 2026. The dealership acknowledged the existence of TSB 22-014 and the defect in the defroster grid but has not yet provided a full remedy. Manufacturer Inspection: The vehicle is an Acura Precision Certified unit. A formal case has been opened with Acura Client Relations (Case #16209033), and photos of the failure have been provided to them. Warning Symptoms: There were no warning lamps or symptoms prior to the failure. The glass imploded suddenly and without external impact while the vehicle was stationary.

Car was parked in parking lot and was not moved. When I returned to my car after working I got in and looked out my rearview mirror as I was about to put car in reverse to notice that my rear window did not look right. After getting out of the car to investigate, it was found that my rear window had been completely shattered. The window had no obvious area of impact, as if something had accidentally hit it or as if someone were trying to break in. It appeared to have self-shattered. This was also confirmed with police report filing. I was also told that the only reason my window still remained in place (even shattered) was because I had a tint film over it.

Shattered back windshield is common but not recalled. Also another issue I am having is a Jammed seatbelt. Acura currently told me my windshield is not covered because it’s a Canadian car. Wondering if my seatbelt issue will be resolved or not too because it’s also a Canadian car..

I discovered the rear lift gate glass of my vehicle to be shattered while parked inside of my garage. There was no known external contact that impacted the glass. There is glass remaining inside of the door itself after the glass was replaced by Acura. This is an issue that is widespread on this model vehicle.

Rear back glass exploded right after parking the vehicle

The rear windshield spontaneously cracked. There was nothing wrong with the vehicle and no physical damage was done. The car was started with remote start and the rear windshield defroster turned out. After approaching the vehicle and opening the trunk, pieces of the window began to fall as it was shattered. Small vibrations made the window continue to crumble until nothing was left in the back. This has been reported to Acura who will not cover the issue even though there is a service Bulletin 22-014 stating there is a defect. Acura has stated the vehicle is not covered even though the issue is for all VINs.

Component or System Failed: Rear liftgate glass (rear window) shattered unexpectedly. The glass is available for inspection upon request. Description of Incident: Vehicle is a 2019 Acura RDX located in Massachusetts. I started the car from my remote. While the vehicle was parked, I closed the driver-side door and the rear liftgate glass immediately shattered without impact. There were no prior cracks, chips, or visible damage to the glass. The shattering appeared spontaneous and was not caused by an object strike. Safety Risk: The sudden shattering of the rear glass created a safety hazard due to flying glass fragments inside and around the vehicle. If this had occurred while driving, it could have caused driver distraction, loss of visibility, or potential injury to occupants or nearby individuals. The failure appears to be spontaneous and without warning, which raises safety concerns. Problem Reproduced or Confirmed: UNKNOWN. The vehicle has not yet been inspected by a dealer at the time of this report. However, similar incidents involving 2019 Acura RDX rear glass shattering have been widely reported by other owners. Inspections Conducted: The vehicle has not yet been inspected by the manufacturer. Insurance will be inspecting the damage as part of a comprehensive glass claim. No police report was filed as there was no collision or vandalism suspected. Warning Lamps or Prior Symptoms: No warning lamps, messages, or symptoms appeared prior to the failure. There were no visi

My rear windshield shattered during the winter. There was no signs of any damage beforehand. There was broken glass everywhere and I could’ve seriously cut myself or anyone back there could’ve been hurt by the pieces of broken glass. I had to file a police report for my insurance. Many car dealerships are refusing to fix! There’s too many reports of this happening!

When I closed my driver's door, the rear window shattered. Glass came into the vehicle when this happened. I had it repaired the next day by Safelite. I made an insurance claim but still had to pay $500 deductible. There was no warning that such a break could happen. There was no prior damage to the window or tailgate at all. I see online there are other instances of this reported, but unsure why Acura hasn't done a recall or otherwise notified the owners of this danger.

I had parked my vehicle in front of my house on Friday, January 30, 2026 at 1:30a.m. I had turned on my vehicle's engine via Acuralink app at 5:20p.m. on that same day. so that it can be warmed up to go to work. At 5:30p.m. I went to my vehicle and saw the rear windshield had been broken. I initially thought someone had broken into the vehicle so I immediately called my near by police station to which they told me to call 9-1-1. I called 9-1-1 and reported a police report with the officers who came to my house. I then contacted my landlord and super since the vehicle was parked in a location where it was visible to my building cameras but no one was near my vehicle during the time the rear windshield had broken. I proceeded to do my research online and discovered that this is a constant occurrence with Acura RDX models from years 2012-Current. The issue is with the defroster when the vehicle engine starts. I took my vehicle to Paragon Acura where they proceeded to take pictures of the vehicle and the damage and replaced the vehicle with an aftermarket windshield, stating the issue is with the windshield which is incorrect, the issue is with the defroster. They assured me this will not happen again due to them using aftermarket glass and this is a one time goodwill repair. Glass is still in my trunk door as I was unable to leave the vehicle for cleaning. I explained to Acura this can not happen due to having 3 young children who place their school bags in the trunk of the car,

Rear windshield shattered with no sign of impact. This is a known problem with this model. Luckily the window had tint so it is holding the glass together from falling into the vehicle. Vehicle was parked and unoccupied at time of this incident.

2019 Acura RDX: questions buyers ask

Is the 2019 Acura RDX a good car?

Going by the federal record, it is one of the RDX years to avoid: owners filed 441 complaints, 4.5 times as many as a typical RDX year. The most common complaint is about the wipers (21%). In NHTSA crash tests it scored 5 stars overall.

What is the most common problem with the 2019 Acura RDX?

The wipers: 92 of the 441 complaints (21%) are about it. Owners most often say it sets off warning lights on the dash (4%) and knocks, grinds or clunks (3%). The typical report comes at 70,000 miles.

How many recalls does the 2019 Acura RDX have?

5 safety recalls on file with NHTSA, the most recent filed May 21, 2026. The largest, 23V858000, covered 2,490,460 vehicles. Recall repairs are free at a dealer; whether a specific car still has one open depends on its VIN.

At what mileage do 2019 Acura RDX problems start?

Half of the complaints that record an odometer reading came in before 11,161 miles. For the wipers the midpoint is 70,000 miles.

Are there service bulletins for the 2019 Acura RDX?

The manufacturer filed 223 technical service bulletins and other notices for it with NHTSA, most of them about the electrical system (58), the visibility (24) and the brakes (21). They include a warranty extension, BPOC05102021, filed May 10, 2021. A bulletin is a repair instruction to dealers, not a recall: the fix is usually free only under warranty.

Reading this record

Complaint volume is well above typical for a single model year.

Complaint counts track how many cars were sold and how long they have been on the road as much as they track quality. A common model from 2013 has had a decade to accumulate reports; a rare one from last year has not. The signal worth weighing is in the severity columns, in whether the same component keeps appearing, and in whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.

Recall repairs are free for as long as the recall stands. Check whether a specific car still has open work at NHTSA's VIN lookup.
