Defect. Daimler Vans USA, LLC (DVUSA) is recalling certain 2019-2022 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter vehicles. The instrument cluster illumination may not be adjustable and appear too bright in certain lighting conditions. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 101, "Controls and Displays."

Risk. A display that is too bright can make it difficult for the driver to see critical safety information, increasing the risk of a crash.

Risk. A detached partition wall can increase the risk of injury.

Defect. Daimler Vans USA, LLC (DVUSA) is recalling certain 2021-2023 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter and 2021 Freightliner Sprinter vehicles. The topcoat paint formula may cause the windows and interior lashing rails to be insufficiently bonded to the vehicle.

Risk. An insufficiently bonded window can detach during a crash, and objects secured to an insufficiently bonded interior lashing rail can detach, increasing the risk of injury.

Remedy. Dealers will inspect the paint adhesion and repair it as necessary, free of charge. Depending on the extent of any damage, DVUSA may offer to repurchase the vehicle. Interim notification letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, were mailed February 5, 2024. Owner notification letters were mailed November 4, 2024. Defect. Daimler Vans USA, LLC (DVUSA) is recalling certain 2021 Freightliner Sprinter and 2021-2023 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter and Metris vehicles. The fuel pump may shutdown, which can result in a loss of drive power.

Risk. A loss of drive power can increase the risk of a crash.

Remedy. Dealers will replace the fuel pump, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed November 1, 2023. Owners may contact DVUSA customer service at 1-877-762-8267. DVUSA's number for this recall is 4790205.

Defect. Daimler Vans USA, LLC (DVUSA) is recalling certain 2022 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter vehicles equipped with electrically adjustable front swivel-seats. The wiring harnesses for the swivel-seats may have been incorrectly installed and may become damaged, which can cause the front side air bags not to deploy as intended.

Risk. An air bag that does not deploy as intended increases the risk of injury in a crash.

Defect. Daimler Vans USA, LLC (DVUSA) is recalling certain 2019-2022 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter and Freightliner Sprinter vehicles equipped with a manual parking brake and 7-speed automatic transmission. The guide bushing on the parking pawl may fatigue, which can cause the parking pawl not to engage and result in vehicle rollaway.

Risk. Vehicle rollaway increases the risk of a crash.

Remedy. Dealers will update the software of the electronic stability, transmission control, direct select module, and electronic ignition switch control units, free of charge. The vehicle was involved in a collision on January 26, 2023. I am not claiming that the computer malfunction caused that collision. After the collision, while I continued operating the vehicle, problems developed with the vehicle’s computer, electronic control system, and instrument cluster. The instrument display could become dark or unavailable, and a CHECK ENGINE warning was present. This prevented reliable access to important information such as vehicle speed, warnings, and operating status. I brought the vehicle to a repair facility expecting a complete inspection and repair. An insurance inspector was expected to inspect and document the vehicle before repairs, but the inspector did not arrive after I waited for the entire day. I was told that the inspector would not be available the following days and would come only when available. Relying on the instructions I received, I left the vehicle at the repair facility. I authorized a complete repair, not an incomplete or partial repair. Nevertheless, the vehicle was only partially repaired, and the computer and instrument-cluster condition remained unresolved. A Mercedes-Benz dealer later documented a CHECK ENGINE condition and that the instrument cluster was showing dark, identified an instrument-cluster malfunction, and recommended further repair or replacement. I objected to taking back and operating a vehicle with an unresolved computer and instrument-display malfunction. I was concerned that losing access to speed, war

Front crash with no airbag deployment and no emergency braking. Currently at The Metal Shop in Warm Springs Va. Told by insurance it is totaled. Sustained mild concussion from head trauma. Head hit steering wheel. I notice many Sprinters for sale for parts after similar front end collisions. No warning lights.

Frequently, when I started the car, the instrument cluster's monochrome display will stay blank/black or display completely corrupted garbage - unreadable bit and pieces. I wasn't able to read essential info like level of drive gear and fuel level etc. Often when this happens, the physical speedometer pointers won't settle on accurate current speed level, but keep cycling: from 0 spin to some value and then reset back to 0 and spin to some value ... This makes driving risky as I am not able to see accurate driving speed!

Almost immediately after I got my Van the Aux Balmar Alternator installed by THOR had to be replaced and was not functional. I tried to get it repaired by two warranty repair centers in Colorado and neither one could repair the Alternator or get it to charge the lithium battery that was also new. Thor told me that they would have specialist look at it when I brought it into Blue Compass of Wheatridge and they told me they had fixed the issue but it still will not charge battery even after 17 hours of driving.

Active distance assist inoperable, active brake assist functions limited, adaptive cruise control not working, lane keeping assist glitching. I was driving the vehicle home after purchase and the lane keeping assist was glitching, it was actively pulling the wheel to the left, like I was over the fog line (I wasn’t) and it was hard braking, Making driving very unsafe. I slowed down and got off at the next exit at a gas station to figure out what was happening. I put the vehicle in park and consulted the manual. I tried to turn off and back on all the systems, through the menu, noting worked. I shut the vehicle off and cleaned the areas around the sensors and the windshield, like the manual suggests. I went in to start the vehicle, and the message “service required do not shift gears” came on the dash. It was stuck in Park. I tried to get a tow truck, but had to wait 4 days, in a gas station parking lot before a tow company with a big enough truck, and skids, (because it was stuck in park) could come on Wednesday May 27. I got it towed to a repair shop. It shows the Code P179A77 direct select redundancy malfunction, they couldn’t fix it. It needs Xentry level diagnostics. The intelligent Servo Module, or direct select module failed/won’t shift from park. There is a recall that wasn’t fixed, I got a carfax from the dealer saying that there were NO active recalls. The recall is to update an all service modules. Yes it’s available for inspection, but it’s stuck in Park at the rep

Passenger side grab handle physically separated from the body of the vehicle. Inspection confirmed the separation was caused by the failure of the factory welds securing the handle.

Mercedes dealership refused to replace ism module and I'm driving with blank instrument panel! No rmp no mph no gas gauge no milage nothing! This vehicle is my only source of income as I'm a delivery driver! It's my only vehicle! I need this fixed now or I can't pay my bills! This part is recalled and I expect them to fix it!

Power steering hose is too short from factory, mine came loose while driving and I lost power steering assist unexpectedly. In checking forums, this is an EXTREMELY common problem and has existed since at least 2018 - mine is a 2022.

Hello. There is a Crosswind Assist feature on the van that is downright dangerous. When it engages it breaks and corrects the vehicle in a way that will result in an actual crash, worse than what the feature is intended to do. This could be a great feature if it didn’t cause more harm than good. It overcorrects. Almost caused me to hit another vehicle and run off the road.

The contact owns a 2024 Winnebago Revel RV built on a 2022 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 2500 Chassis. The contact stated while the RV was idling, the heater was activated, and the contact's wife made him aware that there was an abnormal smoke odor. Additionally, the contact stated that while the RV was idling, the contact opened the mobile app and noticed that the Winnebago house battery was not charging. The contact also noticed the failure while driving. The RV was taken to the dealer, where the alternator was replaced twice; however, the failure persisted. The RV was taken to Coastal RV Center (6075 Savannah Hwy, Ravenel, SC 29470); where it was diagnosed and determined that the alternator needed to be replaced; however, the part was not available. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the part was not available. The failure mileage was approximately 600.

I have a 2022 Mercedes Sprinter with the M274 engine. At approximately 139,100 miles the check engine light came on and my driver was stranded on [XXX] . I took the vehicle to Mercedes-Benz of Kansas City South for diagnosis. I was told that the #4 piston cracked and scored the engine wall. I was quoted $23,820.12 to replace the engine long block. When I asked about trading the vehicle in, they offered me $2,000 for it if I was willing to purchase another vehicle from them. I did some research and there is currently a class-action lawsuit for this exact issue. In reading the comments of various class-action lawsuit websites, this seems to be a manufacturing issue that Mercedes knows about, but is doing nothing to fix the issue. Charging issue with house battery side of class B camping van. It became somewhat apparent the system was not charging properly and quickly escalated to a high overcharge situation, followed by evidence of electrical short in smells and possible smoke in engine bay. The car was in for service for a month and a half. I am not sure the issue is completely resolved and Winnebago has been fairly unresponsive when asked questions afterwards. This issue could cause a fire. There are multiple units with similar issues. Ultimately the secondary alternator was replaced, and a recall kit applied. I am not sure what the specific kit entailed. My van has a "cross wind assistance" feature that can not be turned off. Apparently it helps to keep the vehicle in the lane during cross wind situation, I found it to be way too aggressive and turning itself for no apparent reason. I find it that while it may be helpful in some situations it certainly does more harm than good.

On [XXX], I purchased a new 2022 Mercedes Benz Winnebago Adventure Wagon (“RV”) from La Mesa RV located in Phoenix, AZ. Prior to purchase, while doing research online, it came to my attention that there was an NHTSA Safety Recall for this particular year/model that affected wires under the seat and potential Airbag deployment. (NHTSA Part 573 Safety Recall Report #24V-318). Once I learned of the safety recall, I contacted the dealer on September 21 to determine if this particular vehicle was part of the recall and/or if it has been repaired. On September 23, a representative from La Mesa RV contacted me and assured me this specific vehicle was not part of the recall and does not require a repair. After purchasing the RV, I contacted Winnebago directly to inquire about the warranty and any pending recalls, specifically NHTSA #24V-318. The representative from Winnebago confirmed that this specific RV (verified by VIN) was in fact part of the recall and should have been repaired by the dealer prior to sale. On November 6, 2024, I emailed the manager at La Mesa RV to report the misinformation provided by them and requesting immediate remedy. The manager nor any representative from La Mesa RV responded to address this issue. La Mesa RV appeared to ignore the safety recall and sold a new vehicle to me without repairing a known issue. The engine fan fell off, broke off, sheered off at the bolt that attaches it to the engine. The van is brand new this happened with less then 3000 miles on it. We realized an issued when the van gave a warning to stop immediately and turn off engine. This warning came on 3-4 times as we tried to ascend the pass. We had not place to go on this road. We pulled off several times waiting and hour to let it cool just to travel 3 miles.We just thought we may be running to hot. It was warm out, on an incline on Logans Pass in Glacier national park. Once we coasted out of the park after several hours of this situation and were able to safely get under and look we discovered the fan was dangling in the engine compartment. We contacted a dealer in Billings who told us they have seen several of these. We have read several sprinter van forums and Facebook pages where numerous people are reporting the same issue. The Missoula Mercedes Benz dealer replace the pully, the belt and the fan. The said they were going to replace the water pump, but did not. We requested the parts from them and they would not allow us to have them. We requested pictures of the parts and they still have not been supplied to us. We have a few pictures of the damaged bolt. The service tech was initially just going to rethread the bolt. This a know problem by Mercedes Benz, Winnebago and they are taking no measures to correct it. Repaired it putting the same parts back on. What is to ensure this will not happen again

I have had to have the EGR valve cleaned out 4 times in 18000 miles. The dealer states it carbonized and causes bucking and hard shifting. This is a great hardship as to lost time of vehicle in service. Smithtown Mercedes has told me it is a known issue with no current resolution other than cleaning the EGR every 3 months.

Crosswind Assist feature can't be disabled at the moment and is extremely dangerous. This "feature" can randomly kick on while driving around others and unexpectedly do things like breaking / swerving etc... which is extremely dangerous for both the drivers but others that might not understand what is going on with you and therefore create an accident. Mercedes needs to provide an option for sprinter's owner to disable this dangerous so called "feature".

It’s feels like hard shifting losing power on a highway Check engine light on I bought the van brand new. I have this issue since 4000 mile on the dashboard. I brought it in over six times for repairs. Nothing has been resolved.

The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. The failure mileage was unknown. VIN tool showed no open recall.

Side wind assist is an absolute disaster. It triggers when passing semi trucks and immediately brakes the van and veers into the lane with the truck. This causes the truck to take evasive action and the cars behind to have to brake abruptly. It also will do the same without warning with both mild and strong side winds. It is so unpredictable as to be dangerous. MB is aware of the issue but denies any ability to address it.

The Cross Wind Assist feature on the Mercedes Sprinter is extremely flawed and dangerous. It is also the only assistance system you cannot disable. We have brought it up to Merceds Benz mechanics and dealers and they are aware of the issues, but say there is currently no fix from corporate. I have had the system activate hundreds of times on short windy drives. The last incident was driving through Nebraska from Omaha to the Colorado border. The system engaged 600-800 times. It was windy, but the danger wasn't the wind, it was the cross wind assist feature. When the system engages (which appears to be random at times) it brakes one of the front wheels in the direction opposing wind gusts. When this happens your front nose dips sharply in that direction and makes the van rock violently. It does this particularly when other cars or semi-trucks are passing. Sometimes it does it back to back as if the system is engaging to correct itself. It's truly dangerous. I don't know how they released a vehicle with this feature. I was hoping a brand new van of this quality would make long drives feel safer. My experience has been the opposite.

My message belongs to all vehicle manufacturers. Especially the business/commercial vehicles like mine . Which we spent most of our time inside it, during the work periods'. I would like to ask a favor to take a better attention when it comes to Safety/Comfort /look. We don't Race or Camp but work and sometimes live there. The contact stated that while driving at 65 MPH, the rear driver's side wheel was leaking air. The low tire pressure warning light was illuminated. The contact inflated the rear driver's side tire, but the tire deflated within an hour. The vehicle was taken to a tire repair center, where the contact was informed that the wheel was cracked on the inside. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and approved the claim for the wheel replacement. The wheel was replaced. The failure mileage was 18,000.

At least 5 occurneces, all at elevations above 7000' and in moderately warm weather. After normal engine start, put vehicle in reverse, able to roll out of parking spot, but throttle completely unaffected by accelerator position. Leaving vehicle in a dangerous position. Putting back in park, vehicle can rev to 5000RPM, but back in R or D, no throttle response. Eninge OFF/ON several times seems to clear the issue which appears to be software related. No indications or faults were given on the dashboard. The situation is potentially life threatening, and has been reported on multiple occasions on Sprinter Online forums. This needs a recall and fix.

The “Cross Wind Assist” my vehicle came equipped from the factory with has nearly caused me to have a serious accident due directly to -totally - distracting me when driving the speed limit on a major highway. The “Cross Wind Assist” activates with no notice to the driver and indiscriminately applies the brakes with out any warning and momentarily causes loss of steering control as the vehicle overcorrects to compensate for detected crosswinds. The majority of the time this happens when passing or being passed by large fast moving tractor trailers. I am not the only one with this complaint as noted on this forum stream: [XXX] I firmly believe this will cause me, or other drivers of Mercedes Benz Sprinter Vans - to wreck and potentially harm innocent drivers around me when the “Cross Wind Assist” is activated with no notice to me as I am driving by overcorrecting while fighting the aggressive automatic “cross wind assist”. While driving the MB sprinter with distronic cruise control and there are no vehicles around the cruise control option on the sprinter will disable itself and fail to restart until it senses another vehicle object around. I have noticed this many times while driving long distance on the interstate.

I drove on the freeway with Cruise Control engaged. Suddenly, the control kicked off, and the meter board displayed the following warnings: "Active Brake Assist Functions Limited. See Operator's Manual" and "Active Distance Assist Inoperative." I immediately contacted Mercedes-Benz road assistance, and it took them 13 hours to tow my vehicle to the Mercedes-Benz dealer in Las Vegas. It is closed on Sunday. They just drop us on the driveway. The temperature was scorching at 105 degrees Fahrenheit. I drove very cautiously to a nearby parking lot, parked my vehicle under the shade of a tree, engaged park position, activated the emergency brake, and kept the engine idling with the air conditioning on for approximately 10 minutes. Unexpectedly, the vehicle suddenly started moving forward and accelerated, ultimately colliding with a tree about 5 feet in front. The front end of my vehicle sustained severe damage, but Mercedes-Benz has refused to take responsibility for this incident.

When parked or stopped at elevation (above 9,000) feet, the throttle doesn’t work. The vehicle just rolls down the hill (if on one) or stays put if on a flat surface. This is dangerous because I could roll into someone, and if alone, I am stranded with a vehicle that doesn’t work. I have contacted Mercedes. The dealership won’t fix it because they won’t drive it to elevation to recreate the problem, and there is no error code. There are multiple other people with this issue online, and the dealer told me they’ve seen the problem multiple times but don’t know how to fix it because no error code pops up.

Upon starting the van (brand new, less than 300 mi driven) everything functions normally in P, however as soon as I shift into D, there is no power and the gas pedal is completely unresponsive (Can push pedal to the floor and still 0 RPM). This issue happens randomly, though the common factor that myself and many others have experienced is being at altitude >5000ft (quite common in western US). There are no warning/error indicators and service dashboard looks clean. The only fix appears to be restarting the engine or waiting for it to idle for 5-10min to "warm up" even though this happens in both cold (20F) and warm (70F) weather. This is very dangerous as I will start up the van, and roll out of the driveway/parking lot/etc and then when I go to accelerate the power dies leaving me stranded in the middle of the road with no ability to get the van moving apart from turning it off and restarting it. An odd thing is when this occurs, if I shift back into P (from D) then the engine comes alive again and I can rev >3k RPM while in P, but as soon as I shift back into D the power is gone and I'm back at the 0 RPM issue. This issue seems like some kind of sensor malfunction that occurs randomly at altitude and likely due to Mercedes' lack of testing at altitudes commonly found in the USA.

Shadows from an overpass/bridge or large signs over the highway cause sometimes causes the front collision mitigation triangle lights to go off with warning sounds. Occasionally, automatic braking has occurred at highway speeds.

The vehicle will lose power at high altitudes. I will push the gas pedal all the way down and the RPMs do not move nor does the vehicle move. This has left me in dangerous situations at intersections. I have spoken with a Mercedes dealer in Denver and they have multiple reports of this problem. The vehicle only has 1800 miles and this has happened multiple times at altitude.

At elevations above about 6,500ft, the Sprinter is essentially immobile or becomes intermittently unresponsive to the gas pedal when it is depressed. This happens routinely at elevation and has led to unresponsive acceleration while driving. The unresponsive accelerator has compromised safety when trying to pull out onto roads. This issue has occurred frequently to other Sprinter owners in similar conditions. No warning lights, lamps, or messages appear or are associated with this issue. This issue appears difficult to replicate at Mercedes dealerships/service centers as they are all below the affected elevation. When describing the issue to a MB service representative, I was told it was “normal”. Though an unresponsive accelerator should not be written off and discarded as normal when it has the easy potential to inflict harm its passengers.

My transportation business invested in a Commercial Sprinter Van 2500 4x4 2022, that was purchase on November 19th, 2022. We use these cargo van to transport LTL throughout United States and Canada. On December 23rd, 2022 the vehicle was involved in an incident that almost resulted to death of the driver due to a faulty manufactured vehicle recently purchased through Mercedes Benz. After completing a drop off, the driver of the vehicle was on his way home for the Holidays. Driver was driving about 65 mph per the posted speed limit. At the time of the incident, he was driving among many 53 ft semi-trucks and other vehicles. While driving the newly purchased vehicle on December 23rd, 2022, the hood of the vehicle swung open without warning and completely smashed the windshield. There was glass every where from the impact of the vehicle's own hood flying open. The driver of the sprinter van was disabled now that his front view was blocked. The drivers of those 53 ft semi-trucks behind the Sprinter Van noticed the vehicle's abrupt condition and were able to avoid hitting the Sprinter Van despite the Sprinter Van's immediate reduction of speed. The sprinter van driver was able to pull over to the shoulder safely. Company had to pay to tow the vehicle over to a nearby Mercedes Benz Service Department with availability to take the vehicle in. On December 26th , 2022 the vehicle was admitted into the Service Department for windshield replacement and sensor alignment. After Mercedes B

Brand new van with less than 1000 miles on it. Driving in the High Sierras 8600 - 9000 ft. Altitude seems to be related to this problem. I have not had the problem in San Francisco on steep hills. Problem: When leaving a stop, on any uphill slope RPMs will stay well under 2000 and the van barely moves or not at all. Occurs even with full throttle, manually in lowest gear and in low range (low range 4wd helped a little), warmed up, etc. The to get the rpm's up to back up to a flat spot. This was very scary when entering the highway. When that was impossible, such as in a dip in the road certainly would have have to call a tow truck. Driving as slow as desired on an uphill was possible because if the RPM's dropped below 2000 the van would slow to a stop even with the pedal to the floor. If I managed to anticipate a hill while driving slowly I'd have to depress the accelerator pedal fully it prior to incline. If successful, RPM's would stay above 2000 and the van would have all the power needed (and more would develop instantly) requiring extreme finesse to prevent spinning the wheels.

The contact purchased a 2022 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 2500. The contact stated that two days before taking possession of the vehicle, he was notified by the dealer that the vehicle was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V131000 (Suspension). The contact was informed that the part to do the recall repair was unavailable and he could not take possession of the vehicle. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the repair. The contact had not experienced a failure.

The distronic cruise control system cuts out after a period of seeing no vehicles in front, sometimes an hour, sometimes two hours. But when this happens, it then begins disabling other safety systems like emergency braking. There is no way to quickly reset the system. I spoke with the Mercedes Benz Dealer about this (van is brand new and this happened twice on my first trip) and I was told that this is both common in the 2019 and older Sprinter Vans, and that it is just a idiosyncrasy of the system. How is this safe? How have there not been any changes to this system in 3 years?
