The steering is notchy during turns when the steering wheel is off center, making fine turning adjustments very difficult especially during turns. If any bumps are encountered during a turn or any turning adjustments need to be made, the steering will catch and release and move in a different direction than expected. It requires constant adjustment but the adjustments are not smooth, there is a binding/notchy feeling. When the car is stationary, the it is clearly observed by turning the wheel slowly and feeling the vibrations or observing the continuous jumps in steering wheel. I took the car into the dealer for repair under warranty and they said the steering wheel turns side to side so it's not a problem and refused to further diagnose or make any repairs. I told them it was unsafe to drive the car as is and they said there was nothing wrong with the car so they wouldn't be doing anything more. I asked to show them what was wrong and they said they had done enough and refused to do any more diagnostics. I asked them to look into Safety Recall 6524A and said it feels a lot like what other people describe was wrong with that recall, they said the recall has already been done to this vehicle it doesn't apply, and furthermore that the recall was not an actual issue but just Mazda wanting stiffer steering feel. I now have an appointment with a different dealer to see if they will fix it since the car feels very dangerous to drive as is.

Upon starting the vehicle, on the dash there was a message "hybrid system malfunction" as well as "engine malfunction have the vehicle inspected". Upon driving it home, the same message appeared 10/24/25 as of today when the car starts now the only message that remains is "engine malfunction have the vehicle inspected" I have an appointment at Mazda on 10/30/25 for the vehicle to be inspected. This vehicle has already been taken to this location for two recalls. Today 10/26/25 I looked up my vin for any new recalls and there is an additional recall. Manufacturer Recall Number7825I NHTSA Recall Number25V-568 Summary When fuel containing ethanol is used, it may react with materials on the sending unit circuit board in the sub-tank. This reaction can create a buildup that interferes with the gauge function that may cause the display on the instrument cluster to read an incorrect fuel level. Safety Risk If the vehicle incorrectly indicates an inaccurate fuel level, there is a risk of running out of fuel while driving. This would result in an engine stall and the vehicle cannot be restarted, increasing the risk of a crash.

The steering rack catastrophically failed at highway speeds with no warning or signals from from the car that anything was wrong. I was driving on a curvy highway at 60mph when the steering started to feel a bit weird when turning to the left. At first it felt like irregularities in the road surface or something of that nature. A few moments later, it was clear that something was completely broken as the car would turn to the right completely normally, but had a wildly different amount of feeling and effort required to turn left at highway speeds. When taking a left curve at highway speeds, the steering inconsistently switched from taking several times more effort to turn the wheel (feeling as if components were grinding together) to being lighter than normal, oscillating back and forth between these feelings randomly. I distinctly remember that recall 6524A and the associated stop sale was for "2024 Mazda CX-90 vehicles that have a sudden increase in steering effort while driving" due to "A worm gear in the steering gear assembly may have excessive friction, leading to a sudden increase in the effort required to turn the steering wheel while driving" which said that "This sudden change in steering effort could increase the risk of a crash". I'm suspicious that the failure that I experienced is related to this original issue despite the recall being "resolved" for my 2024 CX-90. I can say with certainty that I'm lucky that I did not crash due to the issue. I'm extremely conce

The tires are listed with the manufacturer and were sold by Mazda on a brand new car to me as 65,000 mile tires I was at a little over 17,000 when Mazda said they were “wearing” oddly and this past Monday they said I needed replacement tires. The pros at the dealership stated they are seeing all CX-90 and CX-70 hybrids need tires before 25,000 miles. It is all over the internet that people are being told the extra weight and torque from the motor are wearing tires to quickly leading to needing to replace them well before time and or some folks are having tire failures. The couple at 16,000 miles needing tires was horrible to watch. It is my belief that the issue is a Mazda and falken failure due to a tire being used that is not suitable for the performance for the vehicle leading to a failure in safety. The dealership also stated the mileage had been removed from the tire sheet by Mazda for this particular tire in the last couple weeks so consumers can no longer request the printout for the VIN of their vehicle, but the mileage still remains for CX-5 options at 65,000. Mazda knows it is an issue and needs to find a solution quickly before lives are lost.

I bought a brand new 2024 CX90 in May 2025. I was on the on-ramp entering a Highway at an accelerating speed when the car all of a sudden went into a limp mode and was unable to accelerate. This limp mode that kicked in almost caused me to be hit from behind. Immediately on the dash it flashed Engine Malfunction. I had to pull over to the side of the highway and had the car brought to my local Mazda Dealer. My local Mazda dealer stated that the recent recall #25V-568 NTSHA caused the program/software for the car to misread my fuel pump and essentially burned out my fuel pump, and therefore breaking my fuel pump. They said they called Mazda, and Mazda is denying the fix because there is "no release date". Since Mazda is refusing to fix this, my local dealer says I have to drive the car as is. However, this is unsafe to drive. I paid for a brand new car only for it to have tech issues with Mazda refusing to do any fixes. This is our family car and I drive around with young kids. This is very unsafe to drive and Mazda needs to remedy this siutation immediately.

My Mazda CX90 consistently has a hard delay before jerking my car forward, especially when shifting between 2nd and 3rd gear. This is most common at slow speeds and accelerating from a stop. On top of generally rough shifting, there have been four separate instances where my car blatantly stopped accelerating and slowed my car from 70-80 mph down to 40-45 mph. Once driving up a hill, and the rest on a flat interstate. I tried flooring the gas each time and the rpms would go up to approx 6000, but the car simply would not respond. After multiple attempts to let off of the gas and re-engage the vehicle, my car suddenly began accelerating again and continued as if nothing happened. I have been able to safely move out of traffic's way each time, but this presents a great threat to myself and others as I have no control over my speed and can easily get into a collision. As if uncontrollable stopping on the freeway isn't enough, my vehicle also accelerates on its own and jolts itself forward when driving at slow speeds through parking lots and stand-still traffic. These accelerations have occurred at idle with the breaks both on and off. The vehicle only propels itself forward by a couple of feet, but the issue seems to be getting more severe each time it occurs. Luckily I have been able to control the car and stop myself from hitting others so far, but I am afraid this may cause harm to pedestrians or people in nearby vehicles. I have mentioned these issues to my local Mazda deale

"The steering wheel intermittently sticks and feels resistant when switching lanes or making turns, especially at highway speeds. It does not return smoothly to center, making it feel unsafe and unpredictable. I brought the vehicle to the Mazda dealership, but they stated they 'cannot replicate the issue' and refused to perform any repairs. This is a safety concern because the sticky steering can make it difficult to control the vehicle and could potentially lead to a crash. There are no warning lights or error messages displayed when this occurs. The issue happens intermittently, making it hard to demonstrate on demand, but it is recurring and worsening. Since this is a brand-new 2024 Mazda CX-90, I believe this could indicate a defect in the electric power steering system or related components."

While I understand that tires themselves are typically covered by the tire manufacturer’s warranty, this situation is different. Mazda equipped the CX-90 with Falken OEM tires that are inadequate for the weight and design of the vehicle, leading to premature wear at only 20,000 miles. This is not normal wear-and-tear. My claim is that Mazda bears responsibility for installing unsuitable tires on a heavy SUV, which created a safety hazard.

Brought vehicle into Dealer for Service due to Check Engine Light being on and Notification of a Malfunction of the I-Stop System. Service Tech indicates that this is a known issue with the Hybrid Battery in these vehicles that could cause the vehicle to unexpectedly stall. This safety issue is significant enough that they would not let us take our car home while we wait for them to obtain a battery, which are currently on backorder. Pursuant to a conversation with a Mazda Customer Experience Representative this has been a known issue since at least January. We have not received any correspondence from Mazda regarding this issue. It would appear that a Bulletin or Recall is warranted for what appears to be a prevalent issue with significant safety impacts.

On multiple occasions the vehicle has falsely detected collisions and suddenly braked while on highway leading to serious safety issues. On other occasions, while changing the lanes with blinkers on, the vehicle suddenly steered back into the original lane and triggered a collision warning even though there was no vehicle/obstacle nearby. This created a serious risk of collision. Even at slow speeds, the vehicle inaccurately triggers a collision warning creating unsafe driving conditions. This frequently happens when we are driving the vehicle in the parking garage, even in absence of moving vehicles nearby. The mild hybrid power train system had issue leading to hybrid system malfunction and iSTOP malfunction. This finally led to hybrid battery failure and the vehicle remaining out of service for over a month. Apple Carplay disconnects erratically creating hazardous condition especially when we are using Carplay for navigation. Such a disconnection requires the driver to suddenly reach over to the phone and input driving directions in the phone again. This is especially dangerous in city driving conditions needing frequent turns.

While driving to the dealership for a routine oil change, the car made a quick odd noise then 3 alerts came on said Hybrid system malfunction have vehicle inspected, engine malfunction, system malfunction. Dealer inspected vehicle determined needed a hybrid batter replacement, indicated they could not say vehicle was safe to drive as it could just stop working. I've noticed ever since the car was new that it had a poor sense of straight ahead especially at freeway speeds. When the lane departure chime was active it would sound constantly{has since been turned off but lighted markers in gauge cluster still fire all the time}. When I take my attention off road for a second to adjust fan speed or temp, the car is close to going into the other lane. Lots of concentration necessary. I've mentioned this to one dealer who checked and adjusted alignment with no improvement and another dealer said they've had other owners of Mazda CX-90's voice the same complaint. There's also a long term test in Motor Trend on a CX-90 that complained about the same issue. I feel there is something wrong here that could be a potential safety problem.

Steering sticks while driving. Then, all of a sudden releases, and this causes a jerk in the steering and vehicle movement in the direction of steering. Vehicle recall 6524A/Jan 18, 2024 for "increase in steering effort" was completed in April 2024. This issue is very apparent at interstate highway cruising speeds to just maintain staying in traffic lane. Worried that steering may continue sticking and not be able to maneuver vehicle to drive safely avoid an accident. Turned off the vehicle lane assist feature to diagnose the issue, the issue still exists with the lane assist feature turned off.

The fuel gauge and range indicator are faulty. I was doing long-distance highway driving during the holidays. At 1/4 tank, the range indicator said 110 miles until empty. As soon as the needle dipped a fraction below 1/4 tank (about 20 miles later) the range indicator dropped instantly to 40 miles left AND THEN DROPPED ONE MILE PER SECOND UNTIL IT REGISTERED ZERO. The needle also fell at the same rate until I was driving on the interstate with zero range and a gas gauge buried below empty. All of this occurred within one minute. I pulled into the nearest gas station and filled up with 12.71 gallons (it's an 18.5 gallon tank). So I actually had 5.79 gallons left (or 156.33 miles of range at 27mpg on the highway). Not being able to rely on the gas gauge/range indicator is a safety issue.

My vehicle had a previous recall done concerning the steering - recall #24V022000 of 2024-01-17. That corrected a problem I was having with a 'notchy' feeling in the steering when going down a relatively straight road. The problem I am having now with the steering is different and IMO is more dangerous of an issue. The problem is a notchy and "locked" feeling when the steering wheel is turned and kept at a required angle when going around a constant radius bend in the road. The specific problem is that when the steering wheel is required to be turned back to the center position after the road straightens, the wheel feels like it is almost locked in the turned position and sometimes returning the wheel to the center position results in an overcorrection which may cause the vehicle to cross over the centerline of the road and into the oncoming traffic. Interestingly, when I had my car into the dealer for a repair and was given another CX-90 as a loaner, the loaner exhibited the same issue. I brought this to the attention of the service manager and he basically ignored my concern. I will be making an appointment with the dealer in the near future and address this issue but I decided to report this issue because it looks to me like my vehicle is not the only vehicle with this potentially dangerous issue. I have been able to anticipate when this occurs but wonder if a less attentive driver would have a serious problem.

Dear NHTSA, I am writing to formally raise a safety concern regarding my Mazda CX-90 Turbo S Premium Plus, which I purchased and currently have approximately 25,078 miles on. This vehicle is equipped with a mild hybrid 48V battery, which is not a full high-voltage battery. The vehicle has been at the dealer since December 9th for ongoing issues. On [XXX], I began experiencing multiple malfunctions, including the Mild Hybrid System Malfunction, Engine Malfunction, and iStop Malfunction (with the iStop malfunction indicator blinking). This is a serious safety concern. I was extremely worried that the vehicle could stall, especially while driving on a busy highway at high speeds. Both myself and my family felt fearful while driving the car. I believe this issue presents a significant risk to the safety of drivers and passengers. I am requesting your assistance in initiating an official recall from the manufacturer for this component failure. Based on my research, I am not the only one experiencing these issues—many others have reported similar problems on forums like Reddit, which suggests that this could be a widespread issue. Additionally, Mazda offers a 6-year/60,000-mile warranty on this hybrid battery. I’ve only owned this brand new vehicle for just two months. Had I known these issues, I would not have purchased the CX90! Having issue with I-stop causing vehicle to stop whenever and now the dash display just popped up yesterday 12/09/24 regarding “Headlight Malfunction contact dealership”. I contacted the dealership yesterday and was going to be charged for a diagnostic test on a two month old vehicle, I don’t think customers should have to pay for a diagnostic test on a “brand new vehicle” and was also advised, Mazda is aware and working on issue (headlight malfunction has been complained about since 2023) but no recall on headlight malfunction, test! As well as now, there are two campaign #7024 J and #7124 J But at the present time service department is waiting on “when” the recall and headlight issue can be serviced! I’m confused why owning a brand new vehicle and being told of issues and experiencing issue along with recalls and not being able to get them fixed is asinine! What customer wants to pay lots of money on a vehicle to risk injury or damage due to manufacturer dragging their feet. I would appreciate assistance in these issues! Thank you

Approximately six weeks ago, I began to notice the steering locking up ever so slightly as I made corrections in sweeping turns at 50 mph or so. In the beginning, I thought that it was road imperfections, but then it became more persistent and undeniable. Following this, it began to lock up more so when turning from a standing stop and accelerating, as when I was merging into traffic from my subdivision street. Some days, I notice it more than others. I was unnerved. I took the vehicle to the dealer, reported the concern, and was regarded as a purple squirrel. I was told that every update related to the steering had been completed and that there was nothing that they could or would do. The problem remained. With the concern remaining, I returned to the dealer and was told that someone else with the exact vehicle reported the problem the day before. Still, there was nothing that they could do as Mazda had not provided any guidance. I do not want to drive the vehicle. It is unsafe.

Loss of engine power/acceleration while driving on highway. Was able to safely pull over but felt in danger during the incident especially with cars behind me surprised by my vehicles loss of power.

Same problem as Recall no. 24V349000, which does not apply to my vehicle because it is newer than the manufacturer build range. 100% repeatable.

Mazda Connect (Infotainment System) will regularly freeze and reboot. Issue is more pronounced when more than one iPhone is connected via USB-C. If each phone has a different version of iOS, Mazda Connect will freeze, crash, and reboot. If one person is connected and then physically disconnects, then another iPhone with a different version of iOS connects, Mazda Connect will freeze, crash and reboot. To make matters worse, these incidents are not recorded in any logs.

Mazda's Driver Personalization System is highly defective and properly recognizes a driver, at best, 40% of the time. Since multiple functions are tied to this system such as seat position, steering wheel position, infotainment presets, and a variety of other vehicle preferences, this not only causes an inconvenience issue but also a safety issue. The safety problem is that one has to stop the car, put it into Park, press through multiple menus and keystrokes just to change the setting to the correct driver.

Stopped at a red light on a busy 2-lane road. I-stop function turned the engine off. When the light turned green, releasing the brake caused a "Hybrid Battery Malfunction" error and the engine failed to start. We put the transmission in park and attempted to turn off and turn on the car with the push to start button. When we attempted to start the car with the push to start button, the car would not start. We were unable to shift into neutral to move the car out of the busy 2-lane highway and were blocking traffic for about an hour. The first tow truck to arrive was unable to move the car onto the flat-bed because the transmission was stuck in park and would not go into neutral so another tow truck was dispatched with a dolly. Our safety was at risk because we were stuck in an immobile car in busy highway traffic. A police officer arrived to help direct traffic around our disabled car. The vehicle is currently at the dealership and has not been inspected as of the time of this report.

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
