My car is giving me various problems with a gear box(a) and accelerations(b). a. It shift from one gear to another on its own. The gear can be put in Reverse, but the light would indicate Park, and the car would not move. Sometime I put the car into Drive and the Parking Break would come up and wont let me release it until I put the car back into Park mode. I've already had multiple"glitches" like this. Couple of weeks ago, when coming out of a stop sign, the gear shifted from Drive into Neutral in the middle of intersection with 2 minors in the car. b. The car experiences acceleration problems every time it come from a stop. It moves very slow and "jerks" as if it is about to shut down. This problem has gotten getting worse in the last couple of weeks. I brought the car to Mazda dealer last summer, as the gear box would take forever to unlock for driving. They said it is normal and thats just like the car is. I have my 3 children [XXX] and [XXX] ) with me 95% of my driving. I have big concerns about this vehicle and its safety. The authorized dealer, Cochran Mazda, previously bypassed the vehicle’s hybrid system and returned the vehicle to us stating it was safe to operate and that we could disregard warning messages until a replacement hybrid battery became available. Prior to this, we had reported repeated drivability concerns, including jerking during operation. We were advised that this behavior was normal for hybrid vehicles. While awaiting a follow-up service appointment, the vehicle displayed a “Critical Engine Malfunction” warning and experienced a significant loss of power while traveling across the Liberty Bridge in Pittsburgh, PA. The vehicle would not accelerate beyond approximately 15 mph and then stalled out on the bridge. We activated hazard lights and were able to proceed slowly to a nearby parking lot, where the vehicle required towing. This incident created a hazardous traffic condition and raised significant safety concerns.
I was driving the car on a highway. About 2 hours into my trip the steering became very difficult when banking to the left. Felt like there was no power steering and I had to muscle the car through banking turns.
Component Involved: Front suspension – Lower control arms Braking system (ongoing unresolved brake noise) Description of the Safety Issue: The front lower control arms on my 2024 Mazda CX-90 show visible erosion/corrosion and looseness. The condition was identified during inspection by a national tire service center and documented on video. The component remains on the vehicle and is available for inspection. The dealership has been notified of persistent brake noise during the last five oil change visits, but the concern has not been resolved. Safety Risk: The loose and eroded lower control arms create a significant risk of: •Loss of steering control •Suspension instability •Increased likelihood of component failure •Potential crash risk at highway speeds There were no warning lights related to suspension failure prior to discovery. The defect was identified during independent inspection rather than through vehicle alerts. Confirmation: The condition was observed and documented by an independent service center. The manufacturer has not yet conducted a formal inspection beyond routine service appointments. No crash has occurred to date, but the condition poses a clear safety risk. Additional safety information will be provided once the inspection is complete.
While turning, the resistance = how heavy is steering, suddenly drop for few millisecond which causes unpredictable understeering , i almost hit the other car on opposite side it happens not every turn but randomly
My vehicle was subject to a 2024 recall for what has been described as "sticky steering." The recall repair was completed by Mazda in April, 2024, however the problem persists. The repair was completed before I purchased the vehicle. When I turn my vehicle to the left or right my steering feels heavy and the steering wheel feels like it is sticky when turning. This does not happen every time I turn my car but it does occur frequently. Speed does not seem to make a difference; I have the problem turning in a parking lot at low speeds or on a highway or road at higher speeds. The date that I provided is the date of the most recent event.
I have a 24 CX-90 that is experiencing the steering issue (Recall 24V022) where the steering effort feels like it binds up and locks during slow to medium speed turns, primarily when turning left. No warnings, no codes thrown.
The vehicle was leaking coolant. The Mazda dealership Technician concluded it was a cracked radiator. There was no warning sign. Took vehicle in for an oil change and that's when the problem was discovered. Mazda completed service with replacing a new radiator on 2/12/26. On 2/15/26 the coolant is burning in/on engine. Reservoir is completely empty after being capped off during service. I believe the new radiator has cracked again. The vehicle didn't show a rise in temperature which would allow a driver to continue driving with this issue until they have a major engine failure due to lack of coolant in the system.
To Whom It May Concern, I am submitting this complaint to report serious and ongoing safety concerns regarding my Mazda CX-90. I believe this vehicle presents a significant safety risk to occupants and other drivers on the road. Since the date of purchase, this vehicle has been subject to numerous recalls, repeated software updates, and multiple mechanical issues. The number of recalls alone raises concern about the safety and reliability of this model. In addition, the vehicle has been in service many times, and I have frequently been provided a loaner vehicle due to unresolved problems. On the day of purchase, the vehicle suffered a mechanical failure and had to be towed. While driving in my neighborhood with my children inside, the vehicle suddenly stopped moving and became stuck in reverse. A brand-new vehicle should not experience this type of failure. More recently, I experienced a dangerous steering event on the highway. While traveling in the left lane, the vehicle suddenly swerved into the right lane, then back to the left, and continued oscillating between lanes. The steering felt momentarily out of my control. If surrounding traffic had been heavier, this could have resulted in a serious collision. After inspection, the service department stated that no issue was found and offered no corrective action. Additional safety-related concerns include: The vehicle has unexpectedly stopped driving while in motion on multiple occasions. The steering system behaves unpredict
All of a sudden I have experienced sticky steering every time I turn the wheel it does not come back by itself, so need some effort to push it back. Mazda dealership service inspected the car and informed that they already put the order for the part, but it will take around 3 months to get it from mazda. I am not thinking to wait 3 months to get the car repaired. It is basically a new car with 25k miles and costed around $ 60K. I don't understand why they don't have available parts if they know about the issue since the beginning.
The steering wheel has been sticking when turned even in the slightest. It is so dangerous because I have to over correct which causes the car to jerk. I took it to the dealership and was informed that this is a known problem but there is no recall from Mazda. They said it’s going to cost me $4500 to replace the steering rack and gear motor. It’s a 2 year old car I shouldn’t be having these kind of major repairs. I get regular maintenance and always take it in for any recalls.
Sticky Steering. noise in front left wheel when doing a right turn on slow speeds. steering wheel stays in place when doing a full right turn.
The steering wheel sticks when driving on highway and going around an extended turn or bend on the highway.
When I’m going around the corner, the steering feels sort of sticky and either won’t stay in one place or feels a little bit stuck in one place. It sometimes feels like someone else is making micro adjustments to the steering as I’m holding the steering wheel. This has been happening for about the last 10,000 miles on the vehicle.
Steering wheel still sticks, even after multiple recalls and replacement of steering rack.
The steering wheel keeps sticking when turning left or right. It does not matter what speed you are going. I almost hit a car due to this. The previous steering recall has been performed without fixing the issue. I took the car to Mazda in Corpus Christi, TX and they claim they can not find an issue. I can repeat the issue l even parked.
Reporting multiple safety-related defects on my 2024 Mazda CX-90. Steering system: At approximately 5,000 miles, the vehicle developed abnormal steering behavior, including inconsistent steering response and abnormal feel during normal driving and turning. The condition affected my ability to steer the vehicle predictably and raised safety concerns, particularly during low-speed turns, parking maneuvers, and city driving. The issue was confirmed by the dealer and required replacement of the steering rack, a major steering component. The vehicle remains available for inspection upon request. Hybrid system: At approximately 22,000 miles, the vehicle experienced a hybrid system malfunction that required the vehicle to be taken out of service for an extended period. The malfunction affected drivability and reliability and required dealer diagnosis and repair. The vehicle was inspected and repaired by an authorized Mazda dealer. Braking system: The vehicle has experienced ongoing abnormal brake squeaking during normal driving and low-speed braking. While braking function remains present, the abnormal noise raises concerns about brake system integrity, wear, and long-term braking performance. Electrical / infotainment system: The infotainment system intermittently shuts off or resets while driving without warning. When this occurs, the display goes blank and then restarts. This results in loss of access to navigation, rear camera display, vehicle settings, and driver-assistance inf
Repeated episodes of “sticky” steering. Requires a lot of effort or force to move the wheel. Highly problematic in turns. Have had to yank the wheel so hard to straighten it, it caused the entire car swerve. Very dangerous. After research, appears this is a wide spread issue with this particular vehicle.
Steering wheel sticks when turning at a high rate of speed, on freeways ect.
Steering is sticky/requires extra effort to center when turning left
The steering wheel sticks especially when making long turns. It jutters and scares the driver. Some times it holds in place and you have to jerk it back to straight.
Steering wheel gets "sticky" and "clunky" when turning the wheel while at speed. Anytime I turn a corner or accelerate into a turn the steering wheel feels like it locks up and clicks back to center - almost like negative feedback.
When driving the vehicle and going into a sweeping turn on the road at highway speeds, mostly while turning into a left sweeping turn, the steering wheel will "jerk", and on a few occasions felt as if it was "stuck" and then would "snap" loose and allow the wheel to come back to center when coming out of the turn. I mentioned it to the dealer as there seems to be a growing number of people experiencing the same issues with the Mazda CX-90's in the 2024 year, but they said they couldn't reproduce it, but it happened to me again just driving away from the dealership. I tried to write it off as it was just my imagination, but I they also only had the vehicle for 15 minutes before they reported to me that they could not reproduce. This is happening after the initial recall for the steering was performed by Mazda on the vehicle. Safety would be at risk if for some reason the steering complete locks up at highway speeds, but any resistance in the steering wheel at driving is not a safe issue. No warning lamps or messages appeared on the vehicle.
When traveling down a road normally, the steering becomes suddenly harder to manipulate. It has a sticky feel when trying to turn normally. This has caused occasions where the car veers out of lane temporarily due to not responding to steering inputs normally.
Steering is rough and can grab or stick when turning the wheel. Afraid it might lock up while driving. The problem has been confirmed by the Mazda dealership, and the dealer I bought it from. The vehicle has not been inspected by anyone else. No warning lamps, I noticed the problem shortly after I bought it.
Steering feels sticky and rough when making minor turns. Sometimes there is a jerk sensation as well. Has been persistent and seems to not go away. All recalls for this vehicle have been addressed so I’m not sure what the issue is.
Steering chatter when turning and steering stiffens at highway speed making it hard to keep vehicle straight and follow the lanes in the road.
I can only best describe it as there were choppy and dead spots in my steering. Coming out of a turn, it feels like a brief loss of power steering which in a turn at highway speeds caused me to reach as I was losing control of the vehicle. Thankfully, no accident caused. I took to Mazda dealership and they confirmed my findings which included me doing a ride along with one of their chief mechanics. They kept the vehicle and later confirmed steering rack was bad and would have to be replaced after they consulted with Mazda corporate. Vehicle was just outside of warranty mileage and Mazda refused to fix as warranty repair. The vehicle had previously had the recall completed on the steering unit that included replacing a spring inside the worm gear. In my talks with Mazda dealership, they confirmed that steering racks were on back order and that the part had a superseding part number. It seemed very clear to me that Mazda new they had a problem and was not being forthright. Additionally, my conversations with their so called Customer Experience Center showed them to be evasive, dodging and unwilling to discuss the issue nor fix at their cost.
Steering wheel is sticking to left, I thought it was lane assist but I turned it off and it stay In position having to over correct the steering wheel. I have a video since it happened multiple times now, I was able to record it during a roundabout.
Multiple times now the steering gets "stuck" in a curve - like an off/on ramp to the interstate. the process is not smooth and the wheel does not "return" correctly and must be forced manually. this is dangerous. i read about a failed recall the investigation is RQ26002. this describes my exact symptoms and my car was privvy to the original recall prior to my purchase. we have spoke to oxmoor mazda about the incident and brought in the car, our concerns were dismissed as the vehicle needing new tires - we purchased the tires but the problem still exists.
In 2024 I was experiencing heavier-than-normal effort required to return wheels from a left turn to centerline, with a “notchy” or sticking feel. I took the vehicle to my Mazda dealer, where they performed the recall of new spring and re-greasing the steering rack. In the fall of 2025, I was again experiencing the same issue, as was confirmed by the dealer. The dealer re-greased the steering rack, and the issue was resolved at that time. However I am now again experiencing the same issue - occasional increased effort with a sticky feel when turning wheels from left back to center.
I am writing regarding a steering safety concern with my 2024 Mazda CX-90 3.3T S Premium Plus. I am experiencing intermittent steering stiffness while driving, which causes the vehicle to wander and sway within its lane and requires constant steering correction. The steering wheel resists smooth input and the vehicle does not track straight. This behavior occurs with Lane Keep Assist fully turned OFF and is independent of any driver assistance features. Behavior creates a safety risk due to a loss of predictable steering control. The dealership attributes this to lane keep assist, but the issue persists independently of any driver assistance features. Behavior occurs at slow and faster rates of speed and sways in either direction.
Need a recall for, P0DAB - Hybrid battery cell balancing conformance error code. Thousands of 2024 CX-90 customers experiencing the issue and MAZDA USA is not responsive. All of the 2024 vehicles are LEMONS and NHTSA should force Mazda to replace these lemons with a new model for the safety of the US citizens.
I have a 2024 MAZD CX-90 Preferred Plus AWD. I was driving my [XXX] grandson to preschool and it sounded as though the passenger's door opened while I was driving. In the split second I looked back to check, unfortunately, I hit a guard rail. My grandson was buckled in his car seat. his first words were "Meme, the door opened but I didn't do it". He was buckled in his car seat and I believe the safety door locks were on. There was no warning sound or light indicating the door was open while I drove. I pulled over, got out of the car and looked. the passenger's back door handle was positioned up but the door was closed. being so shook up, I didn't think to take any pictures. I then had messages on my car saying Dynamic Stability control malfunction - have the vehicle inspected and Engine Malfunction - have the vehicle inspected. I called my dealership to find out if there were any recalls on this type of problem (they said that there weren't any). I have come across a forum where a person states: "So can confirm 1st row passenger door does not provide any warning as well. Looking at the manual, I see that there is supposed to be a warning sound when any door/hood/liftgate is open while driving, as quoted below. If someone else confirms this is normal behaviour, then I think we should file a safety defect complaint with the NHTSA and Transport Canada. “Door-ajar Warning Light/Liftgate-open Warning Light/Hood-open Warning Light The light turns on if any door/liftgate/hood is not
While driving at highway speeds (approximately 50–55 mph) on a highly curving road, the steering intermittently became difficult to control. The steering wheel felt locked or stuck in a turned position and required excessive force to return to center. This condition occurred repeatedly over a 14-mile stretch of curvy highway and resulted in a partial loss of steering control, nearly causing collisions with another vehicle on multiple occasions. This incident occurred at approximately 16,900 miles. Although this defect has occurred multiple times since the vehicle was purchased, this was the most severe occurrence and posed a significant and imminent safety risk. The condition was reproduced and confirmed by an authorized dealer, who advised that replacement of the steering rack is required. At no time did any warning lights or messages appear to alert the driver to this dangerous condition. This issue represents a serious safety defect and warrants investigation.
Headlights will appear to flicker during lite rain. Light reflected off of objects flicker. On coming traffic interpret the flickering as flashing lights trying to signal an emergency. This is caused by the location of the projector headlight light path being directly under the seam where the hood meets the fenders. During rain water is directed right in the path of the narrow beam beam thrown by the optics used to project the light in front of the cat. As water drips the beams of light are deflected sideways. It causes split second darkness in front of the car and confusion amongst drivers in the oncoming lanes. Mazda has recognized this and has a kit that fixes it but they are not calling it a safety issue and as a result are charging people including me upwards of $600 for the corrective kits installation. It is a safety issue. As a safety issue they should be compelled to install their fix for free. I have included file containing my request for help and Mazda's refusal. In addition I have included the technical bulletin describing the issue and the fix published by Mazda.
The steering tramlines, the steering pulls the car when the road surface is uneven so you have to hold on to the steering wheel pretty tight at all times as it could pull you into a dangerous position at any time.
I am experiencing a steering defect in my vehicle that closely mirrors the condition described in Recall No. 6524A, although my specific vehicle VIN is not currently included in the recall. While driving, particularly at highway speeds, the steering wheel intermittently becomes difficult to turn and appears to “stick.” During one incident, I was traveling approximately 55 mph on the freeway while navigating a right-hand curve when the steering wheel suddenly became resistant and did not move smoothly in the direction of the turn. The steering felt as though it momentarily bound or stuck while I was actively turning to the right, requiring increased force to maintain control of the vehicle. In addition to this event, I have repeatedly noticed resistance during right-hand turns, even at lower speeds. The resistance does not feel normal or smooth and gives the sensation that the steering mechanism is catching or binding. This issue occurs without warning and presents a significant safety concern, especially at highway speeds or while navigating curves. The steering resistance reduces the driver’s ability to control the vehicle predictably and could increase the risk of a loss-of-control event or collision. Because the symptoms I am experiencing closely match those described in Recall 6524A, I am concerned that my vehicle may be affected by the same or a related steering defect despite not being officially included in the recall at this time. I am submitting this report in hopes
After having stopped at red light, we made a left turn. I immediately felt a jerking sensation as I turned the wheel both left and right. I moved to a parking lot as I feared loosing steering function altogether, and felt the same jerking while parked and turning my wheel right and left. As my home was only a couple of blocks away, I managed to get my vehilcle home. Again, I can only describe the steering issue as a jerking sensation, or notchy sensation, while turning the steering wheel right or left. Dealership duplicated issue and indicated they contacted Mazda and are awaiting a back-ordered part that is a steering gear (my simple understanding). This event occurred months after Mazda replaced recalled steering issue (6524A)
I am reporting a serious steering safety issue. I was told a steering recall had already been fixed before purchase. About four months later, the steering wheel began locking or strongly resisting movement while driving on curvy roads at speeds over 50 mph. When this happens, the wheel does not return to center and requires force to correct, creating a loss of steering control. I took the vehicle to Passport Mazda in Maryland on January 2, 2026. The dealer stated the entire steering wheel panel needs replacement and the part is backordered until March 2026. This is a dangerous defect in a recently recalled system and needs investigation.
The hybrid system malfunction, does not allow the car to start. This stranded us with children [XXX] in the car. This is the second time this has happened. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Steering wheel sticks to left and stiffens more frequently after recall 6524A.
Steering wheel gets stuck when turning left on speed 35-50 or over
I am reporting an unresolved safety-related defect with my Mazda CX-90. The vehicle began experiencing repeated malfunctions affecting reliable operation while being driven. The issue was reported to the dealer while the vehicle was still under the manufacturer’s original warranty. The vehicle was taken to a Mazda dealership for diagnosis and repair. The problem has not been resolved, and the vehicle has been held at the dealer for over 30 days. I was provided a manufacturer loaner vehicle because my vehicle has not been deemed reliable to return to service. Mazda North America has escalated the issue and informed the dealer that they are “waiting on Japan” for engineering guidance, indicating there is currently no approved repair or resolution. As of now, no permanent fix has been identified. This defect raises safety concerns because the vehicle’s reliability cannot be assured, and returning the vehicle to service without a confirmed repair could put occupants and others at risk. The extended out-of-service time and lack of an approved repair suggest a potential systemic issue. The vehicle remains available for inspection and is currently in the possession of the Mazda dealer. -
My new Mazda CX-90 failed to restart after being stopped at a stop sign. After restarting manually, the dash displayed the check engine light and the “i-stop malfunction” light. The car now flashes this warning whenever it is on. There is an open recall for this issue (24V-816) but my local Mazda dealer does not pull anything up when they search my VIN. It appears the recall only applies to these vehicles built between 12/23 and 4/24. My car was built in 11/23. I believe this recall should be expanded to included more vehicles like mine.
The exterior rear door handles get stuck in the open position. This is a danger and the door has opened while driving since the door handle did not close all the way. I have tried lubricating the both door handles with no improvement. Our car has never been in accident is approximately 18 months old. I have done research on the internet and it looks like this is not a new problem with multiple owners who have complained to the manufacturer in the past with no fix. Here is the link to the forum: [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Steering "locks up" and the steering wheel is hard to turn back to center when making a left turn. When the vehicle was new and under warrant, I complained to Mazda-USA on 11/21/23 and took it to the dealer and the steering was better afterwards. I assumed they applied grease to something which was Mazda's fix for many other vehicle issues. Now the steering locking issue has returned again and the vehicle is no longer under warranty. I don't feel I should have to pay thousands of dollars to fix their manufacturing defect which came with the new vehicle.
I-Stop Malfunction. Engine not restarting after the hybrid system stalls engine at a stop.
There is a potential safety risk with the 2024 Mazda CX-90 power steering/lane keep assist. When traveling at moderate speeds steering left into a turn the vehicle jerks to the right. I do not believe this is a direct problem with the lane keep assist as the problem only occurs when in the center of the travel lane and not while on the edge of the road. Lane keep assist works as intended when on the edge of the road or on the center stripped line as I feel a gentle assist again as intended. The hard pulling to the right problem only occurs when steering left into a turn. There are no warning lights on the instrument cluster. The authorized dealer has not been able to reproduce the issue. The issue has been ongoing for at least the past six months.
Steering wheel is sticking at highway speeds. When going around a curve at highway speeds, steering becomes stuck, requiring additional effort to turn and keep vehicle centered in lane. Steering wheel has to be 'broken loose' by pulling it to the direction opposite of the curve. This results in the vehicle bouncing around lanes which is unsafe. The vehicle is currently at the dealer being inspected. No warnings were present.

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
