I was parking the car at a low speed (2mph) when it suddenly accelerated with a great speed, jumped the curb in front and moved forward and up a small hill. The car collided with a tree before I was able to stop it. All ADAS features were activated in the car and no alarms sounded prior or during the event, which lasted between 1-2 seconds. The vehicle was inspected by Mazda and deemed safe to continue to operate. The dealer did not find a cause for the malfunction and suggested external influence. The inspection took about 3hrs, which included addressing multiple recalls on the vehicle. At time of incident I have owned the car for about two months and did not experience similar issues, however others did according to my web search. I found reports on popular forums describing sudden acceleration of Mazda CX-90 vehicles.

I took delivery of this car about a month ago from the dealership in Kansas. On my way home to Grand Rapids, Michigan I noticed that the driver side rear view mirror was vibrating severely to the point that the image in the rear-view mirror is blurred. This is during daytime driving, at nighttime this issue severely impacts safe driving as I am unable to locate the type of vehicle accurately. Mazda seems to be aware of this issue since 2023 and have been trying to address it through TSB's indicating the dealers to replace the mirror glass. I have taken my car to my local Mazda dealer in grand rapids Michigan, and they have performed the latest TSB on the car, but the mirror continues to vibrate although less than before but still presenting a safety risk while driving. Per the latest conversation with the dealership, Mazda is still continuing to fix a better fix for this issue and I am asked to keep checking each month.
Driving between 30 - 40 mph on a strait road with no obstacles in front or along side the emergency braking engaged for no apparent reason at all! This has been an ongoing issue with this vehicle, there was a recall to update the software but the problem still exists intermittently! This is a very serious safety concern to have an all of a sudden unexpected hard braking action when the road is free and clear!
I was traveling at 40mph on August 14 when the engine stopped running suddenly and without warning. I lost all power. I tried pressing the gas pedal and the engine shuddered and sputtered with the speed ranging from 0 mph to about 18mph with no steady duration longer than a second or two. At the same time an engine icon appeared and a message displayed reading engine malfunction. I safely exited the travel lane despite having very little power. I waited 10 seconds and restarted the car and everything worked fine. I called the dealer explained the incident and to made arrangements to have the vehicle serviced. The appointment was for Friday. When I asked whether I should continue driving the car. I was told that so long as the engine icon was not flashing the car was ok to drive. The next day I started the car and did not see any warning message or engine icon. I thought all was ok so I cancelled the appointment. A second incident occurred later in the morning. I called the dealer again and was told to bring the car in that afternoon, Thursday. On the way over to drop off the car a third incident occurred with the same characteristics as the first two. Each time waiting 5 to 10 seconds restored power to the car. One week later the car was returned to me with the diagnosis of low fuel pump pressure problem. I am wary of driving this car on any trip especially on a speed highway for fear this situation will occur when I am driving at 70mph. I appreciate your taking the time to r
On 3 separate instances the car starts to buck, speed dropped from 75mph to 50mg in first instance. Then the engine malfunction light comes on. The engine looses power and will only drive at 30mph. Once pulled over and shut car off and restart, attempt to drive again with zero power from the engine.
The driver's side mirror vibrates excessively when traveling on the highway or at higher speeds (50+ mph). This has been present ever since taking delivery of the new vehicle on [XXX] and poses a safety risk as it compromises visibility to adjacent traffic. The problem was confirmed by the dealer on [XXX] and repaired according to manufacturer TSB 09-018/24. However, the problem continued to persist after the repair. The defect was reported again on [XXX] and the dealership claimed that they contacted the manufacturer where no additional fix was available. The defect was reported yet again for a third time on [XXX], at which time the dealer still claimed that there was no updated fix. Going down the road with cruise control I have been used to it dropping a little bit in curves but today and car behind me had to slam on there brakes because the cruise control in a small curve dropped me down immediately from 60 to 45 jerk and all. If the driver behind me had not been paying attention they would have slammed into me since we were both going 60 no other cars around just a small curve on a straight road
The contact owned a 2024 Mazda CX-90. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, a clunking noise would emit from underneath the engine compartment. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the control arm had failed. The vehicle had been repaired. The contact stated 3 days later while driving approximately 35 -45 MPH, the brake pedal was depressed but failed to respond. In addition, the vehicle was attempted to be veered to the left or right and it failed to drive in either direction. As a result, the vehicle crashed into the rear-ended of the vehicle in front. The air bags deployed. The vehicle was towed and deemed totaled. The contact stated that the other party's vehicle was damaged and towed away. A police report was filed. The contact sustained a left leg, right arm, shoulder, wrist, and neck injuries that required medical attention via hospital. The contact's wife was seated in the passenger seat at the time of the crash and sustained injuries to the right shoulder, wrist, and both the left and right foot's toes that required medical attention via hospital. The contact was unsure of any injuries to the occupants of the other vehicle. A dealer was contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V349000 (Forward Collision Avoidance) however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time fo
I was pulling into a parking spot. When I do this, my foot is always on the break. I'm an experienced driver (30+ years) and have never had an incident when I felt the car accelerate without my initiation. When I was maybe 5-7 ft from the car in front of me, the car suddenly accelerated (like it was possessed). I immediately slammed on the break and turned the wheel. Thankfully, and amazingly, I avoided hitting the car both in front of me and immediately on my left (the direction I swerved the wheel). No warning lamps, actions, etc were taken by the car itself (other than willing me to smash into the car ahead of me). This incident occurred in a school parking lot. Thankfully, there was no harm to anyone but my confidence in Mazda. But, if I had chosen to pick my children up through the pick-up line, I may have easily hit the car in front of me or a child! Obviously, this can be a tragic situation. Prior to this incident, I have felt that the car regularly does not operate smoothly at slow speeds, especially when accelerating from stop. This is my 3rd Mazda, and I have never felt this lack of control before. I have also noticed that the i-stop works erratically, including when I am moving at 10-30 mph. The light goes on and off when I am slowing down at a light, etc. Plus, when I am stopped at a light, the i-stop will go on for about 20 seconds, then suddenly turn off and the engine will rev up. I shard the stoplight information with the dealer the week after I took possessio
The car’s driver side mirror shakes (glass in mirror) and causing distraction while driving, which seem to be the widespread case. Other 2 CX-90 driven in dealership had the similar issues. The shaking is more prominent at highway speed and while going over bumps.
When you back up and turn left or right there is a loud clunking noise. This noise can also be heard when pulling into a driveway or going over a small bump. You can hear this while going 0 MPH Mazda put out a service bulletin - Mazda TSB #06-003-23

Car jas adaptive headlight and it malfunctions every other But when it happen low beam and high beam depth go down atlest 20%. This car has very bright light for low beam and since low beam projection tilt down and stuck there while you r driving this make situation so dangerous in night. Light low beam depth(till where it illuminates the road) is so bad it makes you blind and wont be able to judge where the road solid line going to turn. I almost ran into road divider Mazda dealer saying they don’t have solution and mazda has to provide it. I had this in writing when last went for servicing
1st instance 12/06/2023- The battery was drained and it won't start so they changed the battery. Dashboard light says engine malfunction have the vehicle inspected. 2nd instance 02/10/2024- same dashboard light Engine malfunction and Hybrid malfunction. This time they said that DTC was P0E10. They also noticed low battery charge warning. Battery was charged with DCA8000 charger and they said that notif went away. 3rd instance-02/23/2024 same dashboard light. This time they had DTC's of 5. P0E10, P1739:12, P1B05:16, P1739:00 and P1B05:00. to think this is a brand new card purchased last october 2023 with less than 3000 miles.
My sunroof just suddenly explode while driving at the highway with my kids, we almost got into a car accident. It sounded like a gunshot. Never get crack or hit by stone before we travel.
Started hearing a rattle in the mid console of the car that gradually got worse. When i checked under the car, there was a bolt missing and one hanging that was suppose to be holding the propeller shaft. When i took it to the dealer, they tried to lie and say that they were only loose which is what you will see on the paperwork but when i confronted them that i saw one was missing and the other bent, they said yes, they don’t know what happened but they fixed it.
There has been two dangerous failures both occurring in an intersection. First instance was in December of 2023 whey the fuel pump failed while turning in an intersection. The second incident was a hybrid battery malfunction, rendering my vehicle unusable in the middle of an intersection again. This was 03/2023
An ultrasonic sensor located in the right front grill area was determined to have failed producing the following message on the dash display: I-Activsense Temporarily Disabled. Ultrasonic Sensor Obscured. Drive Safely. This message initially appeared at approximately the 1500 mile mark of service and was documented when the vehicle was brought in for routine maintenance to Fort Myers Mazda at mile mark 3583 on 3/12/24. It is my position that safety equipment should be reasonably durable and reliable which is clearly not the case in this situation. There is a small pin sized dimple in the sensor lens. The sensor is currently available for inspection. It is further the position of Fort Myers Mazda that this sensor is not covered by the Manufacturer’s warranty due to component damage.
In October 2023 I began to notice that the steering was not working properly. When driving I would notice that the steering would stick and require more force to turn. It would click while turning. I brought it to the tully mazda (nashua NH) who told me that others were experiencing the same but that there was no fix for this yet. On 12/27/23 I again notified tully of this issue and there was no fix for it. On 2/9/2024 I discussed again with tully who advised me that there was a recall to be announced shortly. They did not tell me that there was a safety issue driving the vehicle. On [XXX] while making a left turn (there are two side-by-side turn lanes and I was in the inside/left) i completed my turn and while straightening out the wheel the vehicle overcorrected hitting the vehicle to my immediate right. I have approx $5000 in damage but there were no bodily injuries. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Car has 5000 miles on it. Numerous issues with car. Unsafe steering. Dealer not able to repair steering until Mazda provides parts for recall. Now on the highway with a medium depressed foot pedal the car speeds up on its own. Happened 2 times so far. Brakes had to be applied to slow car down. It was very brief because I immediately stepped on the brake, but it was definitely an uncommanded acceleration. Both times I did NOT have cruise control on. Definitely not safe.
The vehicle's parking "gear" would not engage. Further, the emergency brake would not engage. Puts all in proximity to the vehicle at risk due to the vehicle rolling into or onto them and damaging personal property. Dealership service department could not recreate the the parking "gear" issue, but were able to recreate the emergency brake not engaging. Vehicle has been inspected by Macdonald Mazda West representatives.
The contact owns a 2024 Mazda CX-90. The contact stated while driving the same day the vehicle was purchased, the message "Telematics Malfunction" was displayed. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where the message was cleared; however, the failure persisted. Additionally, the contact became aware that the VIN was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V718000 (Back Over Prevention, Forward Collision Avoidance, Lane Departure). The contact stated that while driving, the images of the front-view, side-view, and rear-view cameras failed to appear on the center display intermittently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed, and the dealer determined that the view monitor control module software needed to be updated; however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 8,500. Parts distribution disconnect.
The major issue that happened to our newly purchased CX 90 last February 3 with more than 500 miles on it started around 5:30 pm of February 8, while my wife is driving this vehicle with my daughter, all of a sudden the car stopped at the middle of the road with warning signs popping up in the dash screen like I-active sense malfunction, hybrid battery malfunction, engine malfunction light on, and on top of these, critical vehicle malfunction. The car won't start and disabled. Also, the vehicle cannot switch to neutral gear to push/pull the vehicle to the side that made the vehicle blocking the roadway until the tow truck came in. My wife and daughter's life was put in danger when this vehicle suddenly stopped in the middle of the road with cars passing by on both ways. I also found out based on the NHTSA vehicle safety, Mazda recall website, carfax and Kelly blue book, that this particular vehicle with its VIN has a SAFETY RECALL due to its steering issue that may increase risk for crash. This was not disclosed to us when we are on the process purchasing this vehicle and they did state inspection and passed it that made we doubt how did it happened.. The vehicle is now with the dealership repair shop and the last update I receive was the technician is still checking on it.
On 02/07/2024, malfunction prompts displayed on my dash relating to I-stop functionality, hybrid functionality, engine. Took the vehicle the next day to be diagnosed, the appointment was set as an inspection with oil change, filter change, and the prompts on my dash. I was advised that the issue to the prompts stemmed from the hybrid battery. I was told that contact was made to the manufacturer and that the battery would have to be replaced. The battery is on backlog and it would be about a month to arrive. I called in after leaving with additional questions as to the safety of the vehicle with the hybrid battery problem. The man on the phone said it is safe to drive, what would be affected would be the mileage I would not get because the hybrid portion was not functioning. He mentioned that a separate case was created with another 2024 cx-9 car owner with the same hybrid battery issue. It’s now two known cases with the hybrid battery issue. I called customer service and was provided with case number 00174049. The resolution to that call to corporate customer service is that I would receive a call back from the local dealership about a loaner car with about an hour. I became aware of a fourth recall, that the corporate agent referred to as a campaign, pertaining to the steering wheel. I asked my dealership advisor if that can be looked in addition to the other issues. She stated that she could not because it has not been launched. The corporate agent advised me that notificat
We called the dealer to have the recall taken care of. We were told that they were not sure if the part would be in in time for the date that they had set to do the fix. HOWEVER, the dealer also told us that we would be secondary to the fix vs their current on the lot inventory that they want to fix to sell! THEN, we will be able to have the required fix as there is availability of the part. Who should come first as this is a safety problem: The loyal customers that are actually out there driving the cars every day under the safety risk or cars sitting on the dealers lots waiting to be sold sometime down the road. Should an existing driver have an issue this would most certainly be a lawsuit. (We are on Facebook Mazda CX-90 North America website. It seems like the fix for this steering problem doesn't fix the issue) This is my second complaint with this vehicle. The first tracking number is: 11554525. NHTSA # 24V-022. (this complaint came as our car was at the dealership for 6 full weeks. They had to drop out the entire motor and transmission!). Pictures below uploaded. We also have been told that there will be several additional recalls to come. We are beyond frustrated with this whole process and car. Thank you for giving us a platform to lodge our concerns and issues.
The lane assist safety feature stops working. The car will allow drifting across well-marked lanes, despite being a clean car and a clear weather day. The car will not attempt to keep the car in the lane. The events are unpredictable. I have checked the settings when it has happened and they all appear to be the same - the lane assist and related boxes remain checked, etc. After turning off the vehicle for an hour or two, the system seems to reset and work again. This has happened twice that I know if, but could have happened at other times that I did not notice.
The “360 View Camera” image periodically goes blank, providing no image, just a blank screen with the colored lines showing vehicle and wheel direction. So when the car is put in reverse or forward, no image of the surroundings are visible. This will not resolve until the vehicle is turned off for an extended period. (An immediate restarting of the car will not resolve.) This car has had the other camera recall addressed and another camera TSB addressed. The issue continues to occur at random, unpredictable times. It has perhaps occurred 10-11 times.
Both lower front control arm ball joints squeak when turning vehicle at slower speeds. Squeaking sounds were noticed at 970 miles. Dealer applied grease as a temporary fix per Mazda TSB #02-002/23. This is a family SUV and I take my wife and kids in it. I am concerned that this is a safety issue as there is a high chance of the lower control arm ball joint failing resulting in inability to steer vehicle in the proper direction. Please look into this issue. Thank you.
I have raised case [XXX] [XXX] [XXX] ] with Mazda regarding my 2024 CX90 where there's a suspension and emergency automatic forward Collison breaking since I purchased the car and now this steering issue safety recall. They are not replacing or buying back. I'm feeling unsafe and fear to drive as if this malfunction car leads to accident. Please assist. When driving on the highway next to a large truck or semi and on a curve, the adaptive cruise control thinks that there’s a vehicle in front of you and slams on the brakes. This has happened a few times with my vehicle. Thankfully, there were no vehicles immediately behind me, or the results could’ve been tragic.
Climate control system issues. Fails to maintain set temperature. Overheats interior when temperature is selected at 68 degrees. Have to turn it down to 62 degrees to maintain an acceptable temperature. This is in the Midwest with outside temperature below 30 degrees and climate control set to auto.
During cruise control engagement when passing a larger vehicle the system sometimes will execute aggressive braking potentially causing an accident with a vehicle following behind. Have to be ready to disengage cruise control during all situations with other vehicles in proximity. It will always perform the aggressive braking maneuver when passing a semi-truck on a curved highway.
Passenger side, side view mirror will intermittently turn all the way in and down. This makes it impossible to see traffic on your side. Once it turns in, it is stuck and you need to get out of the car to physical move it so the motor will adjust it again. This can happen at anytime and has happen at least 10 times since we've purchased the car on 12/29/2023
In tighter corners the car coasts/brakes unnecessarily while cruise is on. Seems like a safety feature possibly or a malfunction as I haven't had that on any other cruise controls on other vehicles. Then after the corner it accelerates. I find very annoying. If this is considered a safety feature then ok but it is way to sensitive currently and needs an update.
On highway traveling the steering becomes tight and stiff. You have to use 2 hands to keep in lane. I have noticed it usually starts 30-45 minutes into the trip and get worse. Today is 3 trip it has happened.
Turning left at intersection at green light , the oncoming traffic sped up and I needed to floor it to not get hit. The my car switch to hybrid and went into a crawl pace. I had to floor it again to wake it up and get the heck out of the way. I don't think the computer is doing a good job talking to the hybrid system and the powertrain during emergency maneuvering. This can be dangerous. I know it scared the hell out me.
Driver side mirror fails to function properly at speeds above 50 mph Shaking and vibration effect visibility in the mirror making highway driving dangerous
First took the vehicle for unscheduled service around 2,000 miles relating to engine noises, primarily rattling while driving. It's sporadic, but it sounds as if something was rattling underneath the car, primarily when accelerating, most noticeable when ramping up from slower speeds/lower gears. Also, when switching from drive into park, the engine makes unusual rumbling/rattling noises before settling into the regular engine idle rhythm. Finally, at 2,532 miles, the check-engine light came on, along with the message "Engine Malfunction. Have the Vehicle Inspected".
On 12/5/2023, upon turn after intersection, loss of power to the engine. Pushing gas provided no response from the engine. Engine power cut to about 10 miles an hour. Felt as the car was driving on battery - as no engine was heard. Was able to pull over to the side. Turned off and on engine 2-3 times but the power wasn't restored. Received warning on dashboard that there is malfunction with engine. Also received errors on Mazda application I had on phone. Engine light was on the dashboard. Photos attached. While obtaining assistance for tow service I was accidentally disconnected. I tried turning the car on again, and engine turned on normally. Total time between last unsuccessful turning on/off engine was about 10-15 minutes. First time experience such issue with loss of power and engine cutting off/ not working. Informed the car dealership and car repair/ check was scheduled to be brought to dealership for 12/8/2023. Estimated repairs taking 4 to 5 days before I can get the car back. Distance to dealership about 150 miles. Confidence in this car severely shaken - considering the price and the fact it is brand new.
These are two major problem i want to highlight, which need immediate attention One of them is related to steering wheel, which is a major safety concern for this vehicle to be on road. 1) Major safety concern- steering wheel Steering wheel is catchy when you are driving vehicle on high speed, which make this vehicle so difficult to control/ maneuver and struggling to keep this in a lane Steering wheel catchy means- it becomes hard when you steer and then skid before finally engaged. This makes driver nervous and can lead to an accident due to wavy drive 2) Engine malfunction light alert in instrumental cluster get on. This give you no choice whether to continue with vehicle. On Nov 23rd 2023, i was travelling with my family on [XXX] from ann arbor Michigan to columbus ohio and get stuck in highway due to this suddenly popped up Currently, vehicle is with germain mazda columbus and getting diagnosed. However, they confirmed some steering wheel motor problem and they are engaged with mazda corporate. But at the time of this reporting, they have this part backlog of 5 month and will be available by April 2024 INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Steering wheel gets stuck. can not keep straight on highway.
When using the adaptive cruise control on a multi-lane highway the system will detect trucks/larger vehicles moving into your lane on a slight curve when they are not. The system will apply brakes to avoid a collision. The first time this happened there was no vehicle moving into my lane but there was an 18-wheeler behind me that wasn't expecting my vehicle to brake and they almost rear-ended me. This happened several other times before I understood the problem and turned the system off. I have reported this to my dealer and they stated the problem couldn't be replicated. This has been reported multiple times by other CX-90 drivers on this site and Mazda will get someone injured or killed if this is not fixed. If you drive a CX-90 do not use the cruise control until this is addressed by Mazda.
The steering becomes “sticky” at highway speeds. The wheel resists turning until sufficient force is applied, and then slips to a next setting or “notch”, where it further rests until force is applied. The effect is not particularly pronounced at low speeds but very noticeable at regular highway speeds (~60 mph). No great force is required to turn the wheel from one “notch” to the next, but the resistance and continual need for readjusting course (because of the “stuck” steering wheel) are fatiguing over time.
When using adaptive cruise control and you are driving on a curve, if there is a vehicle, guard rail or jersey barrier in the next lane or on the side of the road, the vehicle will brake hard thinking there’s something in front of it. It has even happened when there was a hillside next to the road. This is very dangerous on a high speed highway. It can slow down from 75 mph to 45 mph in a very short amount of time.
When going into curves on interstate, car thinks its gonna hit something and slams on the brakes when cruise control is engages. When passing a semi (semi slow lane, passing in passing lane), vehicle detects something in front of it and slams on the brakes. Does this on straight stretches. Slows down extremely fast to mabye 40 mph, then floors it once it thinks the "obstacle" has disappeared and speeds back up to the set speed as fast as it can. Sometimes does it when no othwr vehicles near it on straight stretchss of highway. This is gonna cause accidens. I don't trust the adaptive cruise control feature because it does this. This isn't weather or light related. Does it all the time.
When adaptive cruise control is engaged, and travelling in the left lane of a multilane highway, automatic braking frequently activates when there is a vehicle ahead in the right lane (especially, but not always, a truck) but no hazard in the lane directly ahead.
While driving on freeway with Adaptive cruise control set, vehicle automatically brakes when passing large vehicles, like semi trucks. ACC set at 75, I'm in left lane to pass truck going around curve and brakes come on and slow vehicle down to 60. I am clearly in the left lane to pass and truck in right lane. My safety and those behind are at a HUGE risk. This will cause an accident if not addressed. I am going to get rearended, it's just a matter of time. I have taken it to dealership and have been told this is normal. No it is not! No warnings other than car slamming on breaks for no reason. This has happened several times. I put down the date it first happened. I am available to bring it to dearship, again.
Using the adaptive cruise control in I-64, the car will dangerously slow down/brake in the turns. If someone was following m, this slow down would have been unexpected, and could have rear ended us or lost control trying to avoid us. Unexpected slowdowns are dangerous. Not sure if this happens at lower speeds on side triads since I don’t use the cruise control on those roads.
When operating the radar cruise control, if a large truck (semi, box truck) is next to you when going around a curve, the vehicle is seeing that truck in your lane and applies the brakes very suddenly. This is an issue, because if someone is following behind you, it is almost as if you are brake checking them. Clearly that is not safe at highway speeds. This has happened to me several times since owning this vehicle.
When driving on a highway with cruise control on. If you are in an outside lane and the is a tractor-trailer in the inside lane maybe 100-200 feet ahead of you. If the highway veers to the left even though the truck remains in the inside lane the system seems to think the truck is right in front of the car. Cruise shuts down and it starts to brake. I have almost gotten hit by cars behind me twice. It has happened 4 times now. The first time was in mid June 2023 and three other times since. I asked about it and was told to go with manual cruise - I would have to manually do that each time I want to use it. Not acceptable and very unsafe. Reports of this type of incident have shown up several times on the Facebook Mazda CX-90 site. One other problem is with the front bushings. A hard right turn going over any kind of bump causes a severe rubbing sound.
