WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE, THE BRAKE ACTUATOR FAILED, CAUSING IT TO BE UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THOUSANDS OF LEXUS/TOYOTAS PRODUCED AROUND THIS TIME. INSTEAD OF WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT (WHICH MY CAR NO LONGER QUALIFIES FOR), THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL SO ALL VEHICLES WITH THIS FAULTY COMPONENT CAN BE PROPERLY REPAIRED. THE COST TO REPAIR WAS QUOTED FROM THE DEALER AT $3800!

What owners reported
Newest filingsTHE ENGINE HAS BEEN BURN OIL RAPIDLY. I WENT FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND THE TECH INFORMED ME THAT THE ENGINE IS DOWN TO 2 QUARTZ OF ENGINE OIL. I HAVE KEPT THE CAR ON SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE. ONE OF THE CUSTOMER AS THE DEALER SHIP THAT I HAD A CONVERSATION STATED THAT HE HAD A SIMILAR PROBLEM WHERE LEXUS CAN'T FIGURE OUT THE PROBLEM UNTIL THE ENGINE EXPLODED. I WENT ONLINE TO CHECK AND IT SEEMS LEXUS GS MODEL FROM 2006-2011 HAVE SIMILAR PROBLEMS. LEXUS REFUSED TO ACKNOWLEDGED THE PROBLEM BECAUSE OF THE COST FOR THE FIX. IT IS IRRESPONSIBLE FOR LEXUS NOT TO RECALL THE CAR BECAUSE THE COST.

Reading this record
No unusual pattern of severe incidents in the complaint record.
Complaint counts track how many cars were sold and how long they have been on the road as much as they track quality. A common model from 2013 has had a decade to accumulate reports; a rare one from last year has not. The signal worth weighing is in the severity columns, in whether the same component keeps appearing, and in whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
Most recent recall on file: none. Source: NHTSA Office of Defects Investigation.
