The contact owns a 2016 Kia Sorento. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle would hesitate or fail to accelerate upon depression of the accelerator pedal; the check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact initially took the vehicle to an independent mechanic where a diagnostic code showed that the throttle position sensor was defective. Upon further investigation, the contact discovered NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V089000 (Vehicle Speed Control) which he linked to the failure. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer and he was informed that his vehicle was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided information about an extended warranty that the vehicle qualified for; however, upon calling the dealer, the contact was informed that his vehicle did not qualify for the warranty. The vehicle was not repaired and remained in the possession of the dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 69,500.

While I was driving on the highway my car jumped then the engine light came on and the car just died. They was this really weird smell that was coming from the car as I was pulling over. I then opened the hood of the car and the engine was smoking. I looked under the car and oil was coming out from the bottom engine block. I grabbed my stuff and walked as far away as I could because I was scared the car was going to catch fire.

In August of 2021 I received a mailer notifying me of a recall & software update to prevent my engine from blowing up. I immediately scheduled the software update for the begining of September and that was completed. In October of 2021 I was driving the vehicle when it began to make an odd noise. No dashboard lights were triggered -so I tried to get to my next stop to evaluate, on the way the vehicle remained on but the ability to use the gas and actually increase speed ceased. It was sputtering when I was able to pull off into a parking lot and the check engine light finally appeared. We evaluated the oil and it was dry. No oil lights ever appeared. Had this occurred on a highway or busy roadway this could have had a tragic ending. The vehicle was regularly serviced per service schedule. The vehicle had a recent oil change before the software update and a multipoint inspection with the software update. The vehicle had to be towed and evaluated at the dealership which determined it was covered under the new warranty due to class action lawsuit on the faulty engines. Repairs took almost a month and the warranty coverage was denied and argued repeatedly.

The Head Bolt was stripped, because it was entered backwards causing the Head Gasket to blow, the right-side cylinder head to be replaced, along with the oil filter housing, because it was cracked. The Vehicle is available for inspection upon request. Engine could've locked while driving, killing us, and others. The problem was inspected by the manufacturer, warranty representatives, and Kia mechanics. After a BG Cooling system Service was completed the smell of antifreeze/coolant stayed with the vehicle. A recheck by the Kia mechanic found the flush was blocked, and they re-flushed the cooling system. After that the temperature gage was moving from hot to cold, the fan continued to stay on after the vehicle was shut off.

The contact owns a 2016 Kia Sorento. The contact stated while driving 65 MPH the vehicle experienced an unknown electrical failure and was taken to an unknown dealer; however, the mechanic diagnosed the vehicle and stated that no issues were found. On another occasion while driving 35 MPH and depressing the brake pedal while she was approaching a STOP sign, the vehicle jerked abruptly, stalled, and lost electrical power. The contact stuck her arm out of the window to notify the vehicle behind her. The contact depressed the brake pedal to stop the vehicle but it felt rigid and failed to respond. The vehicle continued to roll until coming to a complete stop. The contact stated that the vehicle restarted independently. The contact veered to the side of the road. The contact then continued to drive the vehicle; however, the vehicle was jerking while driving. The contact pulled into a local Pep Boys for an oil change and continued to drive. The dealer was notified of the failure and an appointment was scheduled for diagnostic testing. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 65,000.

The vehicle has failed to accelerate in various situations, i.e., after coming to a complete stop and turning onto a street with opposing and oncoming traffic. The issue has occurred intermittently for ~two months. Sometimes weeks without the issue resurfacing. Today, after running one errand early in the morning, the engine check appeared when we started the car and the vehicle went into limp mode. We barely got the car home, with little control of the acceleration. We could have been involved in an accident if this occurred while on the highway or turning onto a street from a heavily traveled intersection. This is a severe safety issue.

Driving on the highway, the check engine light came on and the car began running rough. I pulled over off the highway as soon as I could and had the car towed. I was told the car has no compression on cylinder 3 and has codes P0300, P0301, and P0303. Kia tells me I need a new engine at estimated cost of $8800. Prior to this event the vehicle has been burning excessive oil (no oil light on despite once needing to add 4 quarts). Dealership did 2 oil consumption tests on separate occasions and told me it was burning oil within normal limits and took no action.

Vehicle has always been serviced through KIA service center so upon taking the vehicle into service for a sudden severe oil leak repair and to service the water pump as fluid was not circulating through the radiator, and while all the services were done they found the vehicle still over heating so they did a compression/block test and found blown head gaskets. As stated on the invoice of the service done : Vehicle Needs Engine Replacement. I paid for Labor and Parts for Services done for a total of $1539.49 and had to tow the vehicle from the KIA service center back to my residence Inoperable. It should be noted after this event I have research that the KIA 3.3L v6 engine has had this same occurrence for many KIA owners with this engine. They also have filed complaints, with no recalls from KIA on this defective engine. In all this stated above, there were no indicator lights or engine light indicating any problems with any of these situations, only my own visual inspections that noticed the sudden severe oil leak and coolant/heating problem that I brought the vehicle in for service.

The purpose of this complaint is to ask for help to get my 2016 Kia Sorento engine problem fixed. The engine oil consumption issue is a known issue. My check engine light started flashing and the vehicle went into Limp Mode. I contacted the Kia headquarters (July 23,2021). My Sorento was towed to ALM Kia in Union City, GA where it sat for 10 weeks waiting for them to evaluate the vehicle. I moved my Sorento to Rick Case Kia for evaluation and repair on October 13. They change the spark plugs and topped of the oil. However, it was consuming oil at a rate of 3-1/2 quarts every 1000 miles. The Kia Dealership is reluctant to fix the engine of my 2016 Kia Sorento, and the service advisor at Rick Case Kia said make sure to keep oil in the engine. I did that faithfully. Since then I’ve had the EVAP system evaluated, replace the gas cap, the canister purge valve, and added 15 quarts of oil. After all that, my Sorento’s engine failed on December 16, 2021 on I75 in Atlanta GA. I had the vehicle towed to Nalley KIA in Stonecrest Georgia. They diagnosed the Head Cylinder as the problem and said it was not covered by KIA extended warranty. I also have “MY WARRANTY FOREVER” as a second protection product. The service manager at Stonecrest KIA contacted My Warranty Forever to open a case with them. One of the requirements from My Warranty Forever was for Stonecrest Kia to send them pictures of the parts that failed. They would cover the labor cost of breaking down the engine to obtain the p

This started all of a sudden. It is frustrating because I took it to a Kia dealership last year and told them the problem. They told me it was a recall but it was only for up to 100,000. So they only put oil in it and basically sent me my way. So there are two issues going on and It doesn't matter the mileage because several Kias are having identical issues.

Upon Purchase, I took the car to get an oil change and have been consistent with top offs every other week at the local Jiffy Lube. On December 15, 2021, I Was on the interstate with my kids in the vehicle. Out of nowhere, no ignition warnings or alerts, Stopped. I noticed I was pushing the gas but the car wasn't accelerating. Scared beyond measure with my kids in the car ranging from ages 16 to 11 months old, I panicked but got us over to the median lane. Once the car came to a complete stop, I called a tow company. Once they arrived, they checked the car for any codes, which showed nothing. I called [XXX], and he apologized and told me to have it towed back to them and it would be looked at the next day. Kia manufacturers have serviced and said the engine blew due to the dealership not getting a recall serviced before selling me the car. Vehicle has been burning a quart of oil every 1000 miles. Last week the engine light came on. I checked the oil and added 2 quarts. The engine light didn't go off. I checked the code using a engine code reader. It stated a P0303 code. My auto parts store said it was most likely an ignition coil on cylinder 3. I replaced ignition coils and the engine light was still on. The car lost power and made some knocking noises. The car was towed to Ft. Bend Kia. They advised that the engine was blown and zero compression on cylinder 3. I have read 100's of complaints on this particular model blowing engines and Kia not standing behind correcting them. I am hoping to find a class-action lawsuit for this issue.

This car is consuming oil at an alarming rate. There is not an oil leak on the ground or black smoke from the tailpipe. I have taken it into the shop and was informed that the oil consumption is in the acceptable range for Kia. I have to add over four quarts of oil every 3,000 miles between oil changes. With that much oil sitting in the engine burning off at some time or another is a fire risk. Also the warning light for a low oil does not come on. In my experience with this vehicle it has only flashed one time and when I checked the oil there was nothing on the dipstick. I have turned this information into Kia and my extended warranty company and neither one want to take responsibility and properly fix this motor with the known issues. Apparently my vehicle is not the only vehicle with the same motor by Kia who has had this issue. I would prefer to be proactive and have my motor replaced properly or fixed before my car catches on fire as this issue has resulted in many Kia vehicle fires. As grandmother of three under the age of 7 it would be very difficult for me to remove all three of my grandchildren from an emergency situation that could be preventable.

On December 18, 2021, my 2016 Kia Sorento with approximately 20,100 miles, 2.4L Gasoline Direct Injection ("GDI") engine suddenly lost power on an eight lane Washington, DC area highway. The Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) began to blink continuously. The first opportunity for an exit navigating through the construction zone, with the vehicle rapidly failing, was taken and the dealer, Ourisman Chantilly of Virginia, was contacted immediately. This confirms that the Kia Motors America, Inc. Product Improvement Campaign for the Electronic Control Unit (ECU) Knock Sensor Detection System (KSDS) was installed on January 12, 2019, with a mileage reading of 13,726 in the Commonwealth of Virginia at Ourisman Chantilly of Virginia. The NHTSA Recall ID: 18V907000 for the high-pressure fuel pump leakage, Kia recall number SC172, includes 2012-2017 Sorentos. This could be a major fire hazard and pose a serious threat for injury or death. This vehicle has no safety recalls with the NHTSA; the list of affected Sorento 2016 VINS excludes my vehicle. This dangerous defect of engine failure in a well-maintained, low mileage vehicle sold to me as a five-star safety rated "Pre-Delivery Inspection" (PDI) certified with no mechanical issues and examined as safe, may have had the apparent defects from the purchase date with the mileage delivery of nine (9).

There are two major issues with my 2016 Kia Sorento LX (that I’ve just bought less than a year ago). 1- There seems to be some sort of electrical problem going on as my radio and headlights randomly go off when driving. While driving at 70 mph on the interstate AT NIGHT, my headlights when off and I couldn’t see anything! Thankfully I was able to get them back on because I had my children in the car with me. This could have caused us to drive right off the road or worse, hit/be hit by another vehicle. Unfortunately, I have not had a chance to get this looked at due to a bigger issue at hand. Which brings me to… 2- The most expensive and frustrating issue. The engine has seized up, which has been confirmed by a local service center. I have kept up the maintenance on my vehicle since I got it at the beginning of this year. Regular oil changes with full synthetic oil. While driving, again on the interstate, RPM jumped over 4 then down to 0, oil and battery lights came on, and vehicle was disabled. Waited 3 weeks to have it looked at to find that I’m just out of luck. Vehicle is not covered under warranty and there seem to be no open recalls, which I don’t understand given this is a painfully common issue with these models. So I either get to foot the $7,000+ bill for a new engine (which I can’t afford) or continue paying for a vehicle that I can’t even drive. To say that I am dissatisfied with my KIA would be a GREAT understatement.

I was driving my vehicle up a hill. I accelerator a little. The car picked up speed then my oil light flickered and then stayed steady, along with the battery indicator. At this point my engine shut down and the car began to slow down. I came up on a side street that I turned into, because at this point the car was slowing down and loosing power and the breaks were not functioning, I would have either stalled and rolled backwards, or myself and my child would have been rear-ended. All the lights still work and everything come on, so I know its not the battery. My oil light flickered a little when I went around a turn a few times prior to this day, but never steady. No other indicator lights came on. The car is at my mechanics, who advises me the engine has seized and the vehicle has no oil. My last oil change was 3.5 months ago and according to the counter I'm only 99 miles over, which should not have caused this. Even though I was told I had up to 4,000 miles before I needed an oil change again. All of my fluids were checked at this appointment and this is the first major issue with my vehicle.
