I was driving on the highway and the park brake warning light came up. This light was on for some time. When I stopped the vehicle and started it again, the parking brake was engaged. I was not able to drive the vehicle.

Service Shifter warning keeps going on. The car's transmission went out at 74,000 miles and I paid for a brand new OEM transmission. 20,000 miles later on the new transmission, it has service shifetr red lights on like other 2014 & 015 Jeep but mine doesn't show as part of that recall
I was going to leave for work at 4am as usual, went out to my vehicle and tried to put it in reverse but the emergency brake was on. I had a ‘Service Parking Brake’ prompt and light on the dash, and another ‘Brake’ light lit up, showing the emergency brake was on. I figured I had accidentally hit the button and went to disengage it, but it would not turn off. I had never used the emergency brake, and had no prior issues with it. I was forced to call into work due to not have transportation at that point. After toggling the switch for 15 mins, the light shut off and I immediately put it into gear to drive to the nearest automotive repair shop, where when I put the vehicle in park again the light came back on. I found out today that it was the module located in the spare tire compartment, both of which were soaked with water. Turns out there is a National shortage on this part with no ETA on when they will in stock, which forces me to have to buy a used part. The kicker on that is there are only 11 used ones available in Minnesota where I live, they need to be flashed, and the used part is twice as expensive as a new part. Regardless of which part I use, if water is seeping into that area constantly it’s only a matter of time before it happens again. I have now read stories of the brakes engaging while people are driving, and luckily nobody has been hurt yet. My issue with that is my wife and I use this vehicle daily with our 2.5 year old daughter and 5 month old son, and we bo
Gear shifting and transmission problems are on going and intermittent. computer system confused to witch location shifter is in. Sent to dealer for system up date witch only lasted one week before problems returned. error code p0810
PTU failure at 89k mi. Code C14A7-97 from code reader. Car may roll when in Park after not being able to engage PTU.
Vehicle was not included on 20v343 recall for PTU failure but had said failure. As described in the recall vehicle lost all power and forced to stop on interstate. Got out of vehicle and it started to roll away. No injuries no damage, I was able to stop it. The recall is a joke, just a computer update which applies the parking brake if PRU fails, never addressed the real problem, PTU input shaft failure. When I called FCA they said my vehicle didn’t come under the recall, so never had computer update, because of that I lost all power on interstate (unsafe), started to roll away ( very unsafe) and FCA told the to file a complaint. Thank you The consumer stated another recall, FCA 45A, for the exact same problem was issued, and expanded the covered vehicles, but again his was not covered.
I got into a car crash that completely crushed my vehicle and the airbags didn’t deploy at all. serious injuries were sustained
The PTU failed while driving on the highway. Vehicle would not stop moving when placed in park. The loss of power put my kids, wife, and I at risk of possible death if an accident had occurred. Luckily I was able to maneuver the vehicle through three lanes of heavy traffic to pull off the highway before the car completely came to a stop. Once stopped when placed in park I went to step out of the vehicle to assess the situation to only put my family at risk again because the vehicle started rolling away. There was absolutely no warning and no warning after the fact either. The check engine or transmission light never appeared before or after. The problem has been diagnosed by a Jeep Dealer. How my vehicle doesn't fit in the W47 recall for this very issue baffles me. This issue fit that recall of the same year, make, and model to a t.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the rearview camera was inoperable. Additionally, the parking brake failed to deactivate. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 146,750. The contact stated that all of the failures occurred after the computer update recall repair. Each occurrence presented a different code, but they were not saved. The failure of the parking brake caused an accident.
I was driving my 2014 Jeep Cherokee and suddenly the emergency break light came on I loss acceleration in traffic were I immediately panic and I to force truck out of traffic onto side of road about a month before I just put it in stop because I was having issues with this the bank won’t do anything about it am force to pay for a truck that’s unsafe to drive please help point me in the right direction on what can I do..
I was driving my jeep when all of the sudden it kicked out of gear and was put in park. This has happened on another occasion and the dealership told me it was likely due to the battery but now I see the recall and it fits Word for Word. What happened with my vehicle.
Beginning of this year vehicle was taken into mechanic for issues. It had rear differential, exhaust and motor mounts all repaired/replaced! The vehicle still had alot of vibration and just 3 weeks ago wouldn't start! Was towed to dealership since my machanic couldn't work on code issues that was code that came up on Diagnostic machine! Was told by dealership today that the pcm, fuel pump and battery are all faulty! There were multiple recalls since 2020 for the pcm, fuel and electrical the 2014-2020 jeep cherokees. It was taken in for the two recalls we received and wasn't repaired, was just looked at! Now we are having more issues with the vehicle! I have reported this to Chrysler, they are supposed to return my call after making claim and speaking to dealership! This vehicle has had a new engine and transmission put in by dealership in 2016 under warranty. We spent over $3000 in repairs since then to the rear differential, exhaust and engine mounts! Was told this new repair will be another $3000 for the fuel pump, pcm, and battery!
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated upon making a turn from a complete stop, he heard an abnormal clunking sound coming from the front driver's side tire. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact was able to continue driving; however, the failure reoccurred while making turns from a complete stop. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the bolts that held the transfer case to the power transfer unit had detached, causing the transfer case to fracture. The dealer diagnosed that the transfer case needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that an unknown TSB was associated with the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that they could not assist as the vehicle was out of warranty. The failure mileage was approximately 121,014.
* The component or module that operates the emergency parking brake. I'd say the Jeep garage threw out the old one upon the repairs. I do have a pic of the unit that was bad. *The parking brake was locking in while it was parked and could not move it. Then when I did get it moving it was always scary. I do know that it could have locked in at any time and cause me to crash. During some of this time I had been driving my young granddaughters in it before knowing what was happening. We could have all been killed is my opinion. * My own mechanic had my vehicle for 2 weeks trying to find the problem. The parking brake module is down inside the spare wheel cover under the tire and there are air vents in there also. So water was running into the well and corroded the module. The vents have a covering that was also bad thus letting in water. Mechanic confirmed that was the problem. Then Jeep was taken to a local Jeep service center and they also confirmed that the water had corroded the module thus causing it to malfunction. They had my car for about 3 weeks because one they had to let the tire well area get totally dried out then wait for parts. And no messages, no warnings in the car of this. The part that bothers me the most is I have reported it to Jeep and they were no help. I feel I should get some reimbursement. I had to pay in total almost $2000 for these repairs. And this was a car bought off a GM lot was a trade in. They were called also and say to me well we dont know if
The contact owns 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that after refueling, while driving 5-10 MPH, the vehicle shut off inadvertently. The contact was able to restart the vehicle and continued driving. The contact stated that the failure reoccurred several times while driving after refueling the vehicle. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the powertrain control module indicated a catalytic convertor failure due to the inner part of the catalytic converter being missing. The catalytic converter was replaced; however, while driving after refueling, the accelerator pedal was depressed but the vehicle hesitated to respond and made an abnormally loud sound. The contact turned off and restarted the vehicle. The contact was able to continue driving. The contact became aware of Chrysler Campaign Number (Powertrain Control Module). The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the dealer for a software update. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who completed the software update; however, the check engine warning light illuminated a year and three months later. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 116,245.
We purchased this vehicle in 6/2020. Last year had to replace the fuel system because of the vehicle randomly stalling after filling up the tank. This happened randomly so it could have caused a life threatening situation. The cause of this stalling is fuel getting into the EVAP system, and requires replacing the fuel pump and evaporative charcoal canister to rectify. No recall on this even though numerous complaints, it costed us $1700. We now have been having issues of the vehicle hesitating when pulling into traffic and issues with the automatic gear shifting randomly since about 70,000 miles on the car. Recently it got so bad the vehicle would slow down while pressing on the accelerator. We took it into the dealership and they were able to uncover a transmission issue even though there were no warning lights or system warnings. If we didn’t take it in it could have caused a serious injury and accident. There are recalls on more expensive and newer models of this same model 9 speed transmissions but all Chrysler is doing for this model is doing a cheap software update that has NOTHING to do with the issue many cars are having. The below article explains the issues that Chrysler is not helping customers out at all, just putting peoples life’s in jeopardy to avoid paying for the transmission recall on all 2014 Jeep Cherokee vehicles even though it is a MAJOR safety risk. https://www.vehiclehistory.com/articles/2014-jeep-cherokees-problems-and-recalls-cover-powertrain-failure
The transmission SWC 4WD light is on. When brought to Jeep they are saying the part PTO unit is on back order and they will not assist me to fix the car. I have researched and the 2014 3.2 liter engine with 4wheel drive has faulty PTO unit and approximately 100,000 have experienced this problem. I am 75 with a low mileage car and need help.
Everytime i put m y car in reverese, back up, stop, and then put my car in Drive mode, the car will just stall out, The whole car turns off, Occasionaly, the car will not even shift and will be stuck in Reverse. When that happens, i am unable to turn the car and obisouly i am not able to restart the car. I then have to initatite the emergency brake, then wait sometimes up to an hour. Then try to shift the care to park to restart the car. Then once i restart the car it appears the car works just fine until next time i reverse.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated while at a stop sign, the vehicle jerked and would not accelerate as needed, without warning. The contact stated that after several minutes the vehicle accelerated unintendedly. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the contact was informed that there was a leak in the front motor mount and valve body. The contact was informed that the transmission might need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 66,000.
It appears there is a problem with the engine oil cooler part that jeep need to fix so customers do not need to worry about oil leaks due to poor manufacturing of plastic parts Oil cooler fix is not cheap and why they put plastic parts near an engine that gets hot.
While driving the vehicle- the service emergency brake light came on. The emergency break then automatically engaged on its own and would not disengage. The car had to be towed because the e-brake would not disengage. It was raining the day this occurred. Dealership indicated that water got to the e-brake electronic components and corroded/fried the components and therefore need to be replaced. This also caused the calipers to seize and rotors/pads to need replacement. Jeep dealership and customer care are refusing to cover any costs of damage even though I've asked them to look into the active investigation being conducted on this issue as well as similar water intrusion issue with models that had power liftgate previously. https://www.cnet.com/roadshow/news/jeep-cherokee-parking-brake-investigation/ https://www.autoevolution.com/news/13-million-jeep-cherokee-vehicles-may-be-recalled-over-parking-brake-issue-194687.html
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated while driving approximately 60 MPH, the vehicle lost electrical power failed and the power steering failed to operate as needed. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to accelerate as needed and had started to lunge forward intermittently while driving. The contact pulled over and waited for nearly an hour before the electrical system returned to normal operation. The contact stated that the 4WD, check engine, power steering, and electronic steering control lights were illuminated. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the failure could not be duplicated. The vehicle had not been repaired. The contact stated that the failure recurred. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 81,000.
In the spring of 2021 my parking break and break light illuminated on my dash, my electronic emergency break would not disengage nor would my vehicle move in drive or reverse. After bringing my vehicle to a local mechanic, they diagnosed the issue that the EPB (electronic break module) which is located inside the rear end of the vehicle was corroded from water damage. (See attached images)
Electronic park brake engaged without prompting. Dash indicator lights for Park Brake & Transmission Service along with 'D' for Drive on dash flashing. Could not move car due to park brake engaged. Took several restarts to disengage it. Happened twice with no dash warnings between incidents. Park brake engaging while driving is dangerous and I don't feel safe in this vehicle as I have had a prior issue with losing acceleration on the freeway leading to a scary event.
The park brake will not disengage the park brake is located in the rear driver side compartment behind the rear tire which gets water corrosion every time it rains and once it is corroded the park brake will not disengage this happens to be an issue with every 2014 jeep care Cherokee sport I’ve had to have the park brake module replaced several times and have read several service bulletins where this has been an issue
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that on several occasions while driving at various speeds, the transmission failed to shift to the proper gear. No warning light was illuminated. As a result, the contact was concerned that the failure could potentially cause an accident. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the Power Transfer Unit (PTU) failed, and a software update was performed. The vehicle was repaired; however, the contact stated that a month later after he started the vehicle and the accelerator pedal was depressed, the RPM fluctuated, and the vehicle failed to respond. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 84,000. The consumer stated a PTU was ordered in June 2022 and received the back after repairs in Dec. 2022.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that on multiple occasions she heard a swishing water sound in the front driver’s and passenger’s side doors. The parking brake warning light illuminated and activated, and the parking braked then failed to disengage. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed with water intrusion into the vehicle, which caused corrosion to the brake system wiring. The contact was informed that the wiring needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 36,000.
When driving the vehicle it shakes tremendously and a message comes on that say shift gear to park when we are in drive we shift to park and the vehicle shuts down we could be driving at a speed at 45 and this just happens. This issue happen three times before the vehicle was able to completely start up to get us home. We took the vehicle to the dealership when under warranty they refuse to check it because no indicator light was on.
The jeep has transmission problems. It will perform jerky movements while at a stop sign when taking off when trying to proceed to a higher speed it does jerky movements sometimes forcefully makes us hit or heads on the on the head covers. We’ve had software updates on the vehicle two or three times and that has not fix the problem on the transmission. In conclusion, this 2014 jeep Cherokee sport 4 x 4 has transmission problems and I know it’s going to be very very expensive to fix I am also aware that there are other individuals that have similar problems with these type of vehicles, this needs to be addressed. Thank you
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? - When you fill up the gas tank, the car will buck and stall and turn off until the gas tank is less than full (usually about 3/4 full before it starts driving properly again). This has caused the car to shut off completely and not restart even in the middle of driving / in traffic and is a major safety hazard. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? - The car stops unexpectedly and will not restart on the road. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? - Yes, I have documentation from several trips to the dealer and the mechanic. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? - Yes Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? - No
An engine light came on saying “service shifter” and now the car won’t shift or drive right
Upon backing into a parking spot this morning, my EPS dinged and the break light started flashing. The yellow brake indicator light also popped on. I know there is an open investigation into the EPS system right now so this is another case of malfunction. It has not done it while driving, but now I am terrified it might and I am constantly driving my car. Nothing has been inspected as of yet.
MANUFACTURE DEFICT!!! 2014 cherokee limited, only 25000 miles, the transmission slips into neutral, then stalls once slowed down and requires driver to shift to park; also at red-light, dash will alert to park to shift in gear, then stalls while in traffic; both dealer and independent service center confirmed. engine light comes on, but lights and codes reset with restart. VERY Dangerous and has been a noted Recall in 2019 as a software/electrical correction, yet still occurs since recall; Jeep/Chrysler should fix or offer compensatory vehicle if unrepairable...NOT a failed transmission
I placed my Jeep into park at a drive thru ATM, once I finished my transaction, the parking brake independently engaged while attempting to shift to drive. I was finally able to disengage the parking brake after many attempts by holding down the parking brake button and shifting to drive with my foot on the gas pedal at the same time. I managed to pull out of bank lot and made a left turn at 15 mph, once I got into the right lane safely, I released the parking brake button but then the parking brake immediately engaged as the service parking brake message displayed. I was unable to move the vehicle and my jeep was towed to Paul Bailey's (Chrysler-Jeep-Dodge-Ram) dealership in North Kingstown, RI. My jeep was evaluated that coming Monday, 6-6-22 when tech found codes in system for electronic parking brake. The tech then removed carpets and discovered standing 12 inches of water retained in the spare tire compartment as well as major corrosion in module. The tech tested vehicle and found leaking through the sheet metal seams at top of both sides of tailgate which he then cleaned and resealed. The tech stated that the water had led to an electrical shortage [of the EPB module], which caused the failure. He replaced park brake module, spliced in new 30-pin connector for park brake module and then reassembled vehicle. The tech cleaned sunroof drains of debris causing overflow onto headliner and removed headliner to confirm repairs and clean. The tech also removed rear fascia, rese
My vehicle will shift roughly, sometimes surging before switching gears. This is more pronounced after refueling. Additionally, sometimes immediately after refueling, the vehicle will sputter and die when trying to pull away from the pump. Attempting to turn it back on may take a few tries before its successful. The battery light may come on, but the battery has been confirmed as not the issue. Having my vehicle shut down mid drive after fueling to where I can't steer it or move it out of the way is extremely unsafe! I just took it to the dealership. They completed a recall involving a powertrain software update, but did have any explanation for why my car would randomly die after getting gas.
Car will no longer shift in 4low
Electronic fuse box won’t start will start if press hard on fuse could possible cause a fire
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, the parking brake activated independently. The contact stated that he was unable to disengage the parking brake. The contact stated that the parking brake light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where the cause was determined to be the parking brake module was faulty and needed to be replaced. The contact stated that the dealer informed him that the part was on backorder. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 55,500.
Was driving and the service shifter my display screen. Also all my lights lit up by my shifter, and stayed lit for the remainder of the day and then the next morning went off. Also my engine temp display at the same shot way up to almost overheating since the vehicle shifts funny here and there and I lost heat
Transmission, at least it is what I have been told by Jeep technicians. My vehicles transmission has been changed twice because it hard shifts and slides. It is currently doing it again and the technician stated he cannot submitted agains as it is a known issue can can only submit it to warranty if it is severe. On multiple occasions when parked and shifting to reverse, the vehicle jumps back because of the hard shift, putting me close to hitting other parked vehicles. While driving, the transmissions slides from each shift, making it extremely unpredictable in power transfer to tires. I cannot use the vehicle off-road because of this, I am concerned that it can jerk and put me in an uncontrolled and unsafe position. This is extremely frustrating as I bought the vehicle of its marketed off-road capabilities while living in Colorado. I bought the vehicle in November 2021 and the first transmission change was on December 7, 2022. The second transmission change occurred on September 1, 2022, although it was approved for service on August 7, 2022. Both times, the vehicle was in the repair shop for 7 days with no rental vehicle provided. The vehicle does not feel safe to operate with the hard shifting and jerks, it feels like the transmission is falling apart as your are driving, I only use it to work as I have little to no option. Lastly, the Jeep authorized repair technician denied to inspect the transmission on my last visit to the repair shop.
Service 4 wheel drive light was coming on intermittently. Had been for just a few days. Driving in a parking lot and all of a sudden the car slips into neutral. Dash board indicated car must be in park to change gears. So I pressed break moved gear shifter to park then drive and continued on my way. It did this several more times before I was able to get it to the transmission shop. I am just glad I wasn’t driving 75 on the freeway and it slips into neutral. There I was told it was the transfer case and would cost 4,000. The consumer stated the vehicle would hesitate after stopping when the vehicle was originally purchased and feels she needs to be reimbursed for the repairs.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while her son was driving at 30-40 MPH, the electronic braking system engaged inadvertently and the vehicle stopped. The electronic braking system (EBS) warning light was illuminated. The vehicle failed to shift into gears. The dealer was notified of the failure and provided step by step instructions on disengaging the electronic parking brake on the center display. The contact was then able to drive the vehicle to the dealer who overrode the electronic parking brake system. The dealer diagnosed that the furnace and the electronic parking brake module needed to be replaced. However, the electronic parking brake module replacement part was not available. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000.
The parking brake engaged while moving, I am happy that it didn’t happen while I was moving fast. This is cause for serve concern if it was to happen at a high rate of speed. Currently I am sitting and trying to trouble shot the issue and may have to call a tow truck.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, the service transmission warning light illuminated and the shifter would not remain in the intended gear. The contact stated that the gear shifter had erroneously shifted to the neutral(N). The cause of the failure was not determined. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but no assistance was offered. The contact was informed that the vehicle was previously serviced under NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V343000 (Power Train). The contact stated that the vehicle had experienced the failure listed in the recall. The local dealer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 115,000.
When I very first got the vehicle I went into settings and turned off the automatic parking break then for no apparent reason it came on all on its own after it turned on it took a good 20 minutes to get to kick off and when I took it to the service center they said it was deadly dangerous to be driving it the way it is i’ve been without a vehicle for over a month I’ve had no way to get to and from work except for bumming a ride from friends and relatives and it’s going to cost me between 1200 to 2 grand to fix it and I know I am not the only one that is having this issue when I spoke to the manufacturer they gave me a couple local repair shops that couldn’t see me for over a month and basically said fuck off
Lift gate lock engaging when closing, causing liftgate to open at any time. Lift gate also not opening when button is pressed
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while in a drive-thru, she placed the vehicle in park(P) and engaged the parking brake. While attempting to exit the drive thru, the contact was unable to release the parking brake. The vehicle remained stuck in the drive thru. While waiting for a tow truck, the contact restarted the vehicle and was able to release the parking brake. The next day, the contact was parked outside of a business and the failure recurred. The contact stated that the parking brake had engaged independently and would not release. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it remained. The contact linked the failure to NHTSA Action Number: PE22009 (Parking Brake). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 108,000.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that on ten different occasions while driving at various speeds, the vehicle inadvertently down shifted, shuddered, idled, and stalled. The check engine warning light and the shift to park light illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that an transmission bracket needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The contact then stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was towed back to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission bracket needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and assisted with some of the repairs. The contact was provided a case number. The failure mileage was approximately 19,000.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that after shifting to park(P) with the engine running, the contact exited the vehicle and offloaded groceries. After returning to the vehicle and shifting into drive(D), the steering wheel seized and became difficult to operate. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the battery was charged; however, after diagnosing the vehicle, the mechanic was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The contact stated that the vehicle then performed without failure for four days however, the failure then recurred. The vehicle was taken to another dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the brake pads needed to be replaced and the power steering module also needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 63,000.
The Parking Brake light in my vehicle came on. After having it checked I was told I'd need to go to a dealership to have the module replaced. The next day, the parking brake came on in the vehicle without any warning after I started the car. It took 2 hours and several restarts for the brake to turn off.

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
