On or about March 26, 2023 the emergency parking break became engaged and would not disengage. Upon having my car towed to my local Jeep Dealership (Acton, MA) I was informed that water had leaked and corroded the wiring for the EPB module. The dealership informed me that this problem can’t be fixed fully and will continue to happen even after I paid $1,800.

This has happened several times and in intersections which one incident almost caused an accident. Only happens when car gas tank is completely full. Please advise. Thank you

On March 7th 2023, I was driving my Jeep Cherokee on NY 96A in 55 mpa traffic, saw the check engine light turn on briefly, the engine seized at this speed, started chugging, and nearly had a traffic accident given the abrupt engine failure. In addition, while I was able to get to the side of the road, the car was stuck protruding off from the shoulder into the lane, the engine would not start to move the car, and it was a very unsafe situation given poor visibility at dusk. At 91,000 miles, it seems very strange to have experienced engine failure that ultimately resulted in a $6,785 repair bill at Maguire Jeep/Chrysler dealer in Ithaca, NY (VVA assembly needed to be replaced, broken valve spring in cylinder 4, roller spun and wedged in camshaft causing lobe damage, VVAA collapsed causing loose rocker and damaging head, valve and camshaft. Cylinder head needed to be rebuilt). This vehicle has had other serious problems in the past prior to this incident including a malfunctioning parking brake in 2020 that resulted in my 6 year old son and I stranded, unable to drive while we baked in the 90+ degree heat, a very costly broken 4wd module replacement 2021, and multiple breakdowns due to starter issues/needing starter to be rebuilt (2022 2x).

My parking brake light came on and I took it (2014 Cherokee Latitude) to get my brakes fixed and was made aware that my parking brake was stuck on just enough to were it had been wearing out my rotors. my pads and rotors were destroyed because of this and can’t be replaced until I take it to a dealership so they can reprogram it and get it to disengage. A few days prior to this I was in a driveway and my car would not move at all for around 30 mins of starting and restarting my car. I called the dealership and they are wanting to charge me $159 diagnostic plus the cost of repair not to mention it’s unsafe to drive and has to be towed. Dealership apparently only one who can fix and want to charge all this money to repair an electronic issue that causes my vehicle to be unsafe for me and my 2 children!

My Parking break became stuck ON and would not turn off. A warning light came on to service the parking brake. The car would not move. Upon inspection of the EPB module, it was wet, with corrosion, to the point where water can be heard in the module unit. That area of the rear of the car was also wet. My car will not drive and I will be taking it to a Jeep dealership shortly.

Transmission problems, engine light comes on and it says service transmission in the dashboard it is okay to be inspected upon request. I’ve been to 4 different garages trying to get the problem fixed and have spend over $5,000 in less than a year. And the problem still occurs. Car delays drastically when changing gears. When driving, the vehicle will lose acceleration and the gas pedal will not work and the vehicle will not accelerate at all. The drive gear and the reverse gear will get confused with eachother. after stopping at a stop sign or traffic light the car has a very hard time accelerate and catching up to speed. The rpm’s while driving also accelerate its self from time to time causing the car to pick up speed drastically unless I step on the break pedal to slow it down. My car is basically a death trap waiting to happen and this is not okay for my safety as well as others on the road.

The electronic parking brake module was damaged due and corroded, due to water, leading to the Jeep being unable to disengage the parking brake. The module is located in the rear of the trunk and no other signs of water were present when inspected. All of the Jeeps safety systems were effected by the module, the dash board had two lights indicated “P!” And “brake.” The module was replaced by CDR Fullerton in Somerville. The vehicle was inspected by Jeep in Somerville and they were able to reproduce the problem. The vehicle has never been subjected to any type of water damage before. The issue started while driving on a local road when the ebrake automatically engaged resulting in loss of power. After pulling over and starting restarting the car I was able to drive the car home. However, the problem reoccurred many times and we were unable to use the car until the dealership was able to fix it.

While driving and coming to a stop, the transmission does not fully downshift automatically. Usually will only downshift automatically to 3rd gear. I don't realize the improper downshift until I accelerate and realize I am not in 1st gear. I've learned to perform a manual downshift after coming to a stop. Also, when in 1st gear and begin a slow start, to where the vehicle then shifts into 2nd gear, and then cruise at a constant speed that does not require shifting into 3rd, but then when I do begin to accelerate, there is a loud "clunk" that sounds and feels as if I was rear ended.

The vehicle bucks and stalls after filling up the fuel tank to full. I don't lose accessories or anything, I lose engine power. My battery light comes on and my dash says, "battery voltage low put car into park and then desired gear". The car will start up after the excess fuel in the engine is burned off which can take a few tries. It will buck like it wants to stall out or it dies again completely while I'm driving. This is a very dangerous situation to be driving down the road to have the vehicle suddenly stall out. The vehicle will continue to stall until the fuel hits a certain level in the tank.

For the last 12-months I have been dealing with the vehicle stalling after filling it up. It first started a year ago and was sporadic but for the last 6-months it has been happening every time I fill up. This is a very dangerous situation to be driving down the road to have the vehicle suddenly stall out. The last time this happened was on Saturday, 2/11/23 and I spent the day fighting a stalling vehicle. Since 2020 the check engine light sporadically comes on. Supposedly there is a small evap leak. After looking into this earlier today I discovered this is a well known issue with all Jeep vehicles. Seeing how this seems to be a manufacturer issue the consumer should not have to keep paying out to fix what was not done right to begin with. Please look into both of these concerns.

It started when I was trying to leave a Walmart parking lot back in October of 2022. I put my Jeep in reverse and it wouldn't backup. There was no car in front of me so I tried to drive forward and I couldn't. After several attempts I finally called AAA and had my car towed to my house till I could find a local mechanic to look at it. I then had it towed again to CS Auto Services in Leominster, MA and he ultimately had to disconnect the emergency brake because he determined the parking brake module was corroded and the only way for me to be able to drive it was to disconnect the emergency brake until one could be ordered and installed by a Jeep dealer. I thought he was ordering the module but I was supposed to so a few months later on Dec 27th I was driving home from Boston and the ABS lights and the pic with the car swerving came on and flashed all the way home. I was terrified driving home but after called a few people we determined since the ABS was used in bad weather I was probably safe, so I drove it home and had it towed to another mechanic the next day. The found 3 pages of codes that ultimately were a result of the corroded module and he said there was nothing they could do so I called the Jeep dealer down the road and got it in. My Jeeps Transmission is going into Neutral while I'm driving in the freeway I'm unable to accelerate and at times have lost power in the freeway and it restarts when I put into park or turn it off. when I place on park or turn off, the system restarts. I had a recall supposedly fixed for this issue back in 2016 but the problem restarted again several years ago. I took the jeep to Norco Jeep in California in December 2022 and they stated they would "email Chrysler" and I have sent 3 follow up messages and no replies or responses. The mechanics at the dealership stated there was loss of control because the tires have different measurements. I mentioned to them I replaced all 4 tires 2 years ago and problem has still been ongoing. When the car is about to lose power, the transmission light goes on and starts losing velocity while in the freeway or in the streets ( mostly freeway) from 65 mph to 40, and then 20mph and at times it stops if I'm going uphill and starts rolling back. I am very worried for my safety and the safety of my 3 children and I am sending this email in the event of an accident to proof that I have made attempts to receive assistance. Ive had my cherokee for over a year now, the transmission in it isnt great. Shifts funny alot. (hard shifts, late shifts). I was driving on a back road and after a sharp curve where i had to slow down. After exiting the curve i tried to speed up and the transmission jerks so hard it nearly sent me into the opposite lane with incoming traffic. its happened serveal time now over the last year. I have taken it to the dealership to have it look at. I was told "thats just how those 2014s are" "we can try and flash it but theres nothing else we can do. it was just as it should but a see what you are talking about" There were no warning lights on or anything else that would indicate this happening. First appeared september of 2021, one month after purchase. Dealership does know about it and says thats how they are. They always work on my vehicles for me and i trust their judgement. but after the near miss of a head on collision, it has me worried.

The Vehicle has a lot of issues primarily involving the Transmission. The transmission does not shift correctly. The automatic shifting is very erratic. Shift very low sometimes at 2000RPM, and then other times a very high at over 5500RPM. During acceleration, it makes a grinding noise and a very rough shift which can pretty much push you forward from your seat. I took the Vehicle to be serviced several times while still under warranty to the Manhattan Jeep Service Center and every single time they said the computer needed to be updated, and after a few miles, it would go back to doing the same thing, rough shifting.

The car would then not operate in drive or reverse and had to be towed to my house. The following day we had it towed to a dealership was were told that water had corroded the module and would need to be replaced. I’m currently awaiting the replacement part and incurring the fees for a rental car at my own cost. The estimated cost from the dealership is around $1,200 and the part isn’t scheduled to arrive until the end of next month.
