All-wheel drive light indicates PTU is not working on the vehicle. PTU was replaced by dealership and is still not working. There is a recall out for my vehicle but my VIN number does not fall under the recall notice so I was charged for a PTU unit and it still does not work. My car shakes violently at high speeds of 60 mph and randomly puts my car into the emergency brake

My 2014 Jeep has been experiencing intermittent shut downs, the dash goes dead at random times for a few seconds and then comes back on the issue continues. This issue started in December 2021 during that time I was driving at night and the dash, exterior lights and interior lights started flickering. Now this issue occurs 90% of the time when I drive, sometimes when the dash goes off different warning lights come on, TCS, SRS, Power steering and if the vehicle is traveling below 5mph it sometimes dies completely. Battery was replaced 1 year ago. The middle screen on the dash gets super dim and it appears to still be on if you look closely at night but the dials are frozen at the current speed and rpm. My mechanic tested the battery connection and there is nothing loose that would cause this.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated while her daughter was driving at approximately 45 MPH, both hood latches fractured causing the hood to impact her windshield. There was a tire pressure warning light illuminated. The police arrived on the scene and duck-taped the hood down. There was no police report file that the contact was aware of. The contact and her husband then arrived on the scene and drove the vehicle to their residence. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 138,000.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle would hesitate and jerk upon the depression of the accelerator pedal. The contact also stated that the vehicle would shut off without warning, while driving at various speeds. The contact took the vehicle to a dealer where they were unable to duplicate or diagnose the failure. The dealer informed her that the clutch memory code was cleared; however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer had yet to be notified about the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
I was pulling out onto a main road and my car started to thump and grinding so I couldn’t accelerate to the speed I needed to so I immediately took it to Club auto service in Redford mi and he told me my transfer case wasn’t working properly which is right seeing as I only have 80,000 miles before it messed up my 4wD light came on a few times saying it needed service but then went away…. But I did look into and a lot of 2014 jeep Cherokee have been having the same issue I hope something can be done !
The electronic parking brake malfunctions . computer gets wet and brake locks and can not be disengaged
The parking brake comes or activates for no known reason. I tow this Jeep behind my RV and have had the parking brakes come on while on the highway and streets. It is very dangerous because it causes the jeep to sway left and right making it hard to control the RV. You literally have to stop where ever you are and exit the RV, go to the Jeep and manually unlock the parking brakes. VERY DANGEROUS!!! It has happened numerous times.
Recall was issued stating transmission would shift into neutral while driving. Recall was performed and vehicle is still shifting into neutral just like before the recall was performed. (Recall V69 Reprogram TCM 18V69182)
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the electronic braking system locked up. Additionally, while driving, the transmission was slipping and not shifting into gear as designed. The check engine warning light and service transmission warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission was sealed and the brake module needed to be replaced, and the connector was wet. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic who diagnosed the vehicle and confirmed that the warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure; however, provide no assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 93,350.
Keeps saying service parking break and will stall on take off
On July 27, 2022, I remote started my 2014 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk, as I always do and drove off. As I was driving a peep sounded with a quick blinking flash with a P! on my instrument panel. It did that about 8 times and it went away. On July 28, 2022, I again remote started my car and the P! was displayed with Service Park Brake in stored messages. I was able to drive to work, when I parked the parking brake engaged and was unable to manually remove the parking brake. I went into the shifter box and was able to bypass the parking brake and stored messages cleared. As I was driving, all came back on, again slowing down my car. Now I'm unable to bypass e-brake or parking brake. Making my car unusable and unsafe. We went into the trunk and came across water in the side pockets and spare tire area. Looked at the e-brake module and it is corroded, my car has been parked for 4 days. I am afraid of driving my car and having it stop on the highway. The consumer is still experiencing water ingress and can not determine where the water is coming from. There is about 4 inches of water in the spare tire well and side pockets.
The Power Transfer Unit was determined to be faulty by both a certified mechanic as well as Casa Chrysler Jeep- a verified Jeep dealership. Due to the failure of this part, the vehicle was deemed unsafe to operate by both the dealership and my Certified Mechanic-as it can loose power and seize up completely, resulting in crash and or injury . A full detailed inspection report by both my personal mechanic and the dealership can be provided if necessary.According to the NHTSA, “ 67,248 Jeep Cherokees between 2014 and 2017” have this exact issue. The automaker recall number is W47 and recall campaign number is 20V343.
The car is throwing the code of P0810. It keeps saying service transmission.
The transmission jerks when at a light it jerks forward. This is unsafe as I feel it could hit the car in front. I reported it to the dealer which I purchased and they say the transmission is gone. There is only 36898 miles on it. The dashboard lights shuts off while driving not allowing you to see the speed of the vechile or any other instruments.
Driving with 5 year old grandson when vehicle violently began shifting into park. Dash panel warning said to shift into park before selecting desired gear. This happened multiple times while in traffic, almost causing us to be rear-ended. Gear shift changes became violent as if we were being rear-ended as vehicle slammed into gear. Car shut down several times. Problem re-occurred in July when driving my 97 year old father on the 495 beltway (after dealership charged $1,100 for replacing TCM and reprogram). This time car bucked and message came up on dash display to shift into park before selecting desired gear. Car did this 4 times while driving causing great risk because car had shifted into neutral and would not go unless stopped and placed back into park. Now dealership saying no codes and wanting to change rear diff on a guess.
The display that tells you how fast you are going and how much gas ect It jerks in traffic while sitting in traffic and when first out in gear it tends to jerk
After taking my vehicle to a dealership for the transmission recall (transmission going into neutral while driving) the transmission started acting the same way just a couple of weeks later. I brought it back to the dealership and was told they couldn't do anything and I would have to call Chrysler. I am now getting "the run around" with Chrysler customer service about fixing the transmission that the recall messed up.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed there was an abnormal sound coming from the exhaust system. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed the failure as a faulty cracked pipe in the engine to the exhaust. The contact stated that the motor mount and transmission bracket also needed to be replaced along with the pipe. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the transmission bracket was replaced a year ago. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 95,171.
I was driving the Jeep on a 4 lane highway @ 65 mph when the emergency brake light on the display came on as well as the brake itself & then it refused to shift manually or automatically (either option is available normally) & service transmisson light came on almost immediately causing me to abruptly lose speed. The9 engine was pulling over 4000 rpm to go 40 & get to the side of the highway. I was almost hit from behind due to the vehicle suddenly losing speed as I was in the left lane when this occurred & had to get to right side to stop. After vehicle was in park, I looked & the light on ebrake button was not on. I pushed brake control & light came on. Then I again pushed the ebrake switch & light went out. Put it in drive & Jeep still refused to shift properly. I stopped again, put in park & turned it off then back on hoping that would help. It did not make dash lights go out so I proceeded to nearest exit & as I was within 2 miles of my residence I drove it there slowly with emergency flashers on. This is not the 1st transmisson issue I have had with the vehicle. In addition to the numerous recalls for tranny issues, I had to pay $1,000 last fall to replace a chip in the "lifetime sealed 9 spd transmisson". I am afraid to drive the vehicle due to this issue. There was no warning, it just happened. I was alone in the Jeep & did not engage the parking brake. It was not engaged prior to my starting this drive either. I live in Iowa & it's very flat here so brake is rarely e
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that upon placing her vehicle into park(P), the parking brake independently engaged while attempting to shift to drive(D). The contact was able to disengage the parking brake by holding down the parking brake button. While the contact attempted to make a left turn at 30 MPH, the contact released the parking brake button and the parking brake immediately engaged as the "service parking brake" message displayed. The contact was unable to move the vehicle and the vehicle was towed to a dealer. The mechanic discovered that 6-inches of water had been retained in the spare tire compartment. The mechanic believed that water had entered the vehicle through the rear corner seams of vehicle. The mechanic believed that the water build up had led to an electrical short which caused the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The vehicle was not repaired and remained in the possession of the dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 55,000. The contact states that this report is no longer valid and the information is inaccurate. Please refer to VOQ 11487870.
PTU failed while driving, the vehicle’s computer threw a code and disabled the 4WD. A google search seems to show that this is a pretty widespread defect with the Cherokee. The dealer is charging me $4,000 to make the repair. They say It will take them a week to secure a replacement part.
We will be drving the car and on the instrument cluster we will get " shift to park" message and car will go into neutral while driving. we would have to stop the car and shift to park and back to drive. this has happened numerous times on the street or freeway. 3 dealers for jeep did not know what and how this is happening no codes pop up. it is extremly dangerous and after reviewing this is happening with jeeps and no fix is available.
Car lost power and warning message on dash said to shift to park at o miles per hour.check engine light was on. When I bought this Jeep it lost power the first or second week of ownership. I took it back to dealer and they said they couldn’t find anything. The car would loose power and the above message would come up. Could happen when driving ar after take off. Problem has not been reproduced. Dealer said wire shorted out and burnt. Check engine light came on it also read message on dash stating to restart at park at zero speed.service transmissions, service park brake also would not dtart. This is about the deventh time this has happened in less then a year
After filling up the gas tank the engine stalls at stop light. I must quickly place car in park and restart the engine. This happens multiple times as I drive home. Then as I start driving again the engine seems to be hesitant and feels like it is "bucking" me. After the first time this happened it seemed to go away after fuel level in tank went down. When I filled the tank again the problem reappeared. This has happened twice to me. This is really a life threatening hazard.
It is well known on Jeep Cherokees from 2014 forward use plastic oil filter housings instead of metal. Plastic part in this heated area causes failure and leakage of oil into exhaust manifold. This problem is so prevalent that all Jeep dealers and other repair shops know that Chrysler Jeep Dodge can’t even keep up the demand for the part replacement, AND still they do not make it out of metal. This problem is well known and costs $ 1000 - 1300 to repair. Why is NHTSA not forcing Jeep to recall all the Jeeps with problems and replace the oil filter housing with a metal product !! This is abuse to loyal Jeep owners, with a known problem which all participants are aware of, but no one is holding Jeep accountable !
I was going 65-70mph on the high way. I received a notification to service the transmission. I immediately started to lose power and my speed began to decrease. I was unable to increase the speed with hitting the accelerator. As the speed was decreasing without my control I was able to make it to the shoulder, luckily. This was very dangerous as I was on a busy highway. If I did not make it to the should this could have been very dangerous for me and the other motorist on the highway. This happened twice. I took the car to the dealership and they replaced my PTO unit. This was a very expensive part. I have my invoice to send if needed.
I was driving on the highway and all of a sudden my car wanted me to shift into P to park while i was still in drive. My vehicle was hit passenger side as well in a hit and run incident. I pulled over and waited awhile and called the police then brought my vehicle home because it was not totaled. I tried to get coverage from my GEICO insurance but they were unable to help. Then February i was in a rear end collision from another gentleman on the way home from work. My vehicle was being repaired for a month and some change until i got it back. At first I thought it was the battery or alternator going bad, but a diagnostic test showed normal for both. I’ve tried different gas thinking it could be bad gasoline. When the vehicle shuts down it’s difficult to get it to restart. Now it is saying service 4WD which i believe is something with the transfer case because its not the axels or differentials which I had replaced from Jeff D Ambrosia. Looking for assistance to get my vehicle driving safe and possible reimbursement or help, I have all my receipts from what has been done to my vehicle since I first bought it in 06/20/20 For my birthday present. There is a lot of more information that i want an advisor or assistance to know as far as what i have already paid out of my own pocket with dates and receipts (battery, axels ,rear diffs , alternator , etc) and try to diagnose it from there. I know about the mechanisms myself and my buddy who is an authorized mechanic. I am sure that a
On 6-2-2022, I was driving in Fresno ca with my 2 grandchildren age 1 &5. I was on shaw ave turning onto the freeway 99 when my transmission just left me stranded at the stoplights!! luckily I was not turning or oncoming traffic cars could of hit my car. Car would not move. I was stranded for about 1 hour before AAA tow truck came and pick me up!! Called my jeep dealership in dinuba and told them what happen. Best they could schedule a date to check the jeep was 1-17-2022(note this transmission was replaced about 1 1/2 years ago). The tow truck driver when he from the jeep at my home said when he trun it on the drop it off, it seem to get in gear??The following day I turned it on and tried to move it and it was working but an engine was on just like it turn in fresno when it left me stranded. The codes were PO420, P1DDD and P1CEE. I took the jeep to a local shop in Selma Ca and he plug in to a scanner is where I got the odes read, the last 2 he told me where transmission codes and would need a software flash at the dealership, he couldn't flash it. Pronto city auto was the name of the shop. He was kind enough to do it for free. Will schedule a dealership date, it 6-4-22 date of my report.
ACCELERATION AND EMERGENCY BRAKE WHEN I PUT ON THE BRAKES THE CAR ACCELERATES AND TRYING TO GET ON EXPRESSWAY ITS A LONG TIME BEFORE THE CAR CAN GO FULL POTENTIAL. THE EMERGENCY BRAKE COMES ON UNEXPECTED. I DONT FELL SAFE WHEN EMERGENCY BRAKE COMES ON AT ANY GIVIN TIME. IF I BRAKE AFTER I LET GO OF BRAKE CAR ACCELERATES AND GOING ON A CURVE IS THE SAME AND ITS VERY SCARY. I TOOK TO DEALER FOR RECALL AND THEY UPDATED NODULE FOR GEARS I WENT BACK AND THEY DID UPDATE ON TRANSMISSION NODULE. GOT THE CAR BACK 2 DAYS AGO THE FIRST DAY IT STARTED AGAIN ON ACCELERATION AFTER BRAKING. THE 3RD DAY ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. HOW CAN THEY SELL A JEEP LIKE THIS MY LIFE IS VALUABLE AND I DONT FEEL SAFE. I DONT TRY MY CAR FAR SCARED IF I GET IN TO AN ACCIDENT AND I ONLY HAD THIS CAR FOR 6MONTHS BEEN GOING BACK AND FORTH LITERALLY EVERYDAY TO FIX THE ISSUE AND NOONE IS DOING ANYTHING. PLEASE DO SOMETHING. IT HAS BEEN INSPECTED 4 TIMES AND THEY CANT FIND WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. NO WARNING TILL 4 MONTHS AFTER PURCHASE THEN ENGINE LIGHT WAS COMING ON AND OFF.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that after refueling the vehicle and driving at undisclosed speeds, the vehicle vibrated and stalled. The transmission warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 35,000.
Odometer flashes and never stops flashing
The vehicle speed accelerates on its own when trying to come to a complete stop which almost caused me to rear end another car at a traffics light, the powertrain is completely off and creates an unsafe riding experience which impacts the steering and control of the vehicle, stalls randomly. There is rough shifting with the transmission, which jerks the car periodically. When driving at a speed above 60 entire vehicle shimmer and shakes uncontrollably, feels like the tires are getting ready to detach from the vehicle when driving at higher speeds and mostly when trying to come to a complete stop.
The 4WD will not work, so any time I need the 4x4 capability it is not available. I read that this problem can also prevent the car from going into park, so it can roll and cause an accident, so now I am afraid to drive it at all . It is not fixed yet.
One day while we were driving, shifting became very slow and harsh. A few miles later, vehical slowed down enormously out of nowhere, and service brakes and transmission lights came on. No 4wd, no traction control available etc. Gigantic safety hazard, especially. With no prior indications or warnings.
At a stoplight or red light, the car will sometimes start revving up, like it wants to go, while my foot is on the brake. The check engine light will then come on, and It'll then come up with a notification on the dash saying "Shift to P then desired gear". The photo is also attached. This is very annoying, as it happens while driving too. When it comes up during driving, when you press the gas, it will not go any faster and starts slowing down. This is dangerous and needs fixed. Took it to the garage, and they couldn't figure out what is happening, even with the check engine light!
My vehicle shutsdown repeatdly in the middle of the road without any warning and I was even about to have an accident many times because of the sudden shutdown and now I get it diagnosed because of another SVC 4WD light turning on. It came out to be a power transmission unit/failure which need to be fixed.
Car stalls out after fueling
I was driving when my transmisson slipped into neutral in the middle of an intersection then turned off my car and turned it back on.
This is a flat tow vehicle that creates a death wobble when being towed behind RV, jeep paid for first fix and has worked for 3 yrs. now death wobble is back.
*The PTU unit has tested as faulty, needs replaced to the tune of $3000 and is not included in the PTU recall. *The dealer has confirmed the problem. *Just the dealer. *Yes, svc 4wd light began illuminating on and off about 3 weeks ago.
Wife and I were towing our 2014 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk behind our 28,000 LB Motorhome and it began to shake and wobble so bad we had to pull over. We got 35 miles from our Home base in Ohio. Sat on the side of the road about 20 min and took off again toward an exit about a mile ahead. It did not wobble so we drove on. About 30 miles later it did it again. After it did it 5 times in 80 miles we decided to have the Jeep hauled home and put away for the Winter and we left for the South.
Power Transfer Unit broke free from mounting bracket and transmission. PTU transfers engine power to the all wheel drive system. Dealership inspected vehicle and determined several bolts holding the PTU to the transmission were missing. It appears that the bolts were never installed at the factory. Google search shows many similar cases with 2014 Jeep Cherokee. All 2014 Jeep Cherokees must be recalled and inspected for this factory flaw, and fixed at manufacturer's expense.
When the fuel tank is filled, to the first click off of the pump. The vehicle will stall, sputter, and is hard to accurate. The dealer has all ready replaced the fuel tank, evap line, and a puger valve, but still has the same problems. I have almost getting rear ended when it stalls a couple of times. Still has been going on for 2+ year. Vehicle drives fine after 30ish miles after filling it up.
After my recalls were addressed with a dealership. I picked up my car and had no speedometer when I turned my car on. And it warned me to service shifter. This is on the start up after recall corrections. Later it started to act like it was trying to shift. Mostly under load conditions driving along. In or out of cruse. It acted like water in the gas,, but that's not the problem. It also started to shift funny slower than it did before. The lights blink on the shifter and and manual will not engage or show up on screen. Could it be caused by my shifter lights?
Vehicle is having issues with the PTU Same issue non trail hawks have been having but have a recall
Vehicle show error on car screen to service 4wd. local mechanic did computer check and advised the PTO transfer case needs to be replaced. My car only has 73000 miles on odometer.
Unknown. While driving one day the traction light and check engine light came on and then the 2014 Jeep Cherokee Sport suv started shifting gears funny like on delay mode. Engine tach gauge showed engine was reving higher then normal but the vehicle wasnt moving any faster. Then when taking off from a standstill at a light the suv shifted like it was stuck on first and then jerked when it finally shifted up to next gear. Took it to Oriellys to have them hook up the scan tool and it read TCM - gear jerked while in neutral type of code.
My 2014 jeep Cherokee latitude has stalled on me 3 times. I got very lucky, but could have been seriously injured if people were cautious around me. My vehicle vibrates when it’s in a reverse and shifts hard. When I took it to the dealership they acted like they had no idea about what I was talking about.
Vehicle shifter loses contact with the transmission and vehicle will not engage

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
