My Jeep Cherokee has been diagnosed by a mechanic using Stellantis software for having issues with the PTU (Power Transfer Unit) , requiring replacement of the entire unit. When this fails, it can result in complete power loss to the entire vehicle while driving, a huge safety concern for anyone driving this vehicle. Mopar does have a recall for SOME Jeep Cherokees experiencing this issue, but my VIN was not identified as part of this recall. I feel this is incorrect as I am experiencing the exact same problems with the exact same parts identified in the other recall. This is such a global issue that this part is on back order for the foreseeable future. My Jeep also fell under a prior recall regarding reprogramming the PTU. It just seems obvious to me that Mopar is at fault here, and I'd like this to be addressed.
There is 3 things going on with this Jeep. First thing the service shifter is on. Second the power steering will go out and come back on at different times. Lastly if you shut the car off it may not start again for awhile and you will get a message on the dash that says engine to warm to start. I contacted Jeep they said to take it in. We aren’t in a position to just Let them keep running diagnostics on our car we have a code reader and it is not throwing any codes. Our Jeep started acting up after they did the one recall On it.
Engine stalls after filling tank. I’m not over filling it I stop at the first click and don’t put in a drop more. My engine will still stall and most times my car will completely shut off when I come to a stop.
1st Repair Attempt: On April 2, 2021, 14 days after I purchased the vehicle (Purchase date: 3/18/2021), I received multiple error messages stating "Service Electronic Parking Break" "Service Anti Lock Breaking System" "Service Park Brake" "MIL" light was blinking "CEL" light was on as well and my vehicle would not accelerate. I was on a high traffic interstate and could not move the vehicle to exit to the shoulder. The dealer stated that my PCM/TCM needed to be "flashed" and my ABS Module needed to be replaced due to a CSN W20, W84 and W80 code. The part to replace the ABS Module was not in stock and my vehicle remained with the dealership until April 16, 2021 (a total of 15 days) 2nd Repair Attempt: On May 21, 2021, 35 days after the repair attempt, for the 2nd time I received multiple error messages stating "Service Electronic Parking Break" "Service Anti Lock Breaking System" "Service Park Brake" "MIL" light was blinking "CEL" light was on as well and my vehicle would not accelerate. My children were in the car when this happened. The dealer once again, for the 2nd time, had to order an ABS Module as well as reprogrammed according to all manufacturer recommendations (PCM/TCM/DTCM, etc) and my vehicle remained at the dealership until June 1, 2021 (a total of 12 days) 3rd Repair Attempt: On October 6, 2022, for the 3rd time I received multiple error messages stating "Service Electronic Parking Break" "Service Anti Lock Breaking System" "Service Park Brake" "MIL" light was bl

Well maintained vehicle that has the 4wd warning light activate. Diagnostic code states Power Transfer Unit PTU error - not safe to drive. I have researched 2014 Jeep issues and there are a LOT of reported problems - many related to this same issue. This seems unacceptable to me and the cost of repair or worse another car is cost prohibitive. In this day and age cars should certainly last over 10 years and well over 100,000 miles. Thank you

I received a warning to service my park brake. At that time it immediately started setting my park brake and I was unable to release it. After much fooling around with it I got it to release and took it to the dealership. They said the park brake module was wet and corroded and suggested I left my windows down. Well I never open my windows. They said the part was not available and probably wouldn’t be for months. The blew out and cleaned the module. I had no problems for a year and a half (I also never set my park brake for fear it wouldn’t release) but it started setting itself again so I called the dealership and was again told they didn’t have the part and couldn’t tell me when they would. I have also had so many other issues with this vehicle. One being a transmission issue that happened before a recall for it so I fixed the problem and paid for it. When the recall came out I was only reimbursed for half of what I paid. I’m literally afraid to drive my car for fear of something goring horribly wrong while driving it.
On or about May 11th I received a notice of a recall on my vehicle. This recall notified me that my car could catch fire due to a faulty liftgate. The notice stated that there is no remedy available at this time so they recommended that I do not park near other vehicles or near any buildings. With safety being a concern, I reached out to the dealership that I purchased the vehicle from (Carmax) to see if they could help me in getting a rental vehicle or a loaner vehicle, so that I could drive safely without any concerns until the recall is fixed. They refused to help me, stating that they did not manufacturer the vehicle so I had to reach out to the manufacturer for any assistance. I then reached out to Jeep, who is the manufacturer, and also tried to request any assistance in this matter. I first went to the dealership directly and asked if there was anything they could do to assist me and they denied me stating that jeep does not provide any rental vehicle assistance in regards to recalls. When I advise them that this is a safety concern, they said I should reach out to customer service. I then called customer service with the number that they provided, and they also refused to help me. They stated that they could not provide any rental vehicle assistance or loaner vehicle, while I am waiting for the recall to be resolved. They stated they have no policy that requires them to do so. I advised them that this is a safety concern as my vehicle could catch fire based on the par
Due to the Safety Recall 49A - I am told that I am to leave my vehicle parked nowhere near buildings or other vehicles as there is a fire safety concern with vehicles catching fire whether or not the ignition is on. I called the Mopar line, and was not that it was not urgent and to take it to my Jeep dealership to have it examined to determine if I needed a rental - even though the recall states that it's to be parked due to a FIRE SAFETY concern. The dealership says they were never given information on what was needing fixed so they wouldn't know what to look for - I call Mopar back. They said they didn't know why I was told to go to the dealership and that if the recall doesn't state they'll offer a rental, then they won't offer a rental. But I can pay out of pocket for a rental and MAYBE get reimbursed by them for it, if they deemed it necessary. I have ONE vehicle, and I'm a single mother that drives her child to school. Explain to me how I'm to do that if they want me to PARK it? Not to mention, the Mopar CS refused to tell me it was safe to drive because she "couldn't say that." So, I'm suppose to drive a vehicle that can catch on fire without even being on when it's my only means to drive my child to school or get groceries - and they can't tell me it's safe to drive BUT refuse to offer a rental because it's fine? How is this fine? This is a safety concern (as the recall states) and a serious liability with a possible lawsuit waiting. It's been recalled since May, it i

The Emergency Parking Brake engages on its own, and the car can not move forward. The car engine fails and stalls, the vehicle can not be shifted, and I have a loss of steering control. Dash reads error of parking brake needs service, power steering is out, and check engine light comes on. The car won't restart for approximately 1 hour and then turns over and starts. This problem happens intermittently with no warning. It has happened both when parked and moving. I have had the vehicle in at a Jeep dealership but they were unable to diagnosis. It appears to be part of the same case number
While coming to stop at a red light, service parking brake message along with audible ding appeared on the message center. The light on the parking break switch was flashing. Brake light was illuminated along with parking brake light. I arrived at my destination shortly after and attempted to engage the parking brake. Nothing happened. I moved up a few spaces in line at a coffee shop and came to a stop. The parking brake engaged and I was unable to move the vehicle. I turned the car off, put my seatbelt on, put the car in drive and slowly moved forward. The parking break disengaged and I was able to get home. At home I followed the procedure to reset the parking brake. The brake reset along with all lights, brake and parking brake light, and was ok until the next day. Vehicle was parked overnight. Next day tried moving car but Parking brake engaged and I was unable to disengage. Service parking brake message illuminated as well as brake and parking brake light. I read online about water entering the control module and attempted to locate and remove it. See attached photo. The module and wiring harness had a small amount of water inside as well as signs of the water having been there a while.

Car has broken down multiple times. Most recent issue: 1car stalled while trying to make a left turn on highway, would not drive forward -dashboard sign said to put car in park -when trying to put it in drive it went into neutral and rolled back -car would not turn off, kept running when we tried to turn it on and off -“battery voltage low”warning signal came on -engine warning signal came on -got it to drive again after a few minutes and parked the car -tried driving it home, same thing happened all over again when were at a light after about 5 minutes -went to parking lot, hood of car was burning hot
My 2014 Jeep Cherokee is impacted by the 49A Safety Recall for Power Liftgate Module, for which there is no remedy. I've been advised by Jeep's recall not to park inside, or park near a structure, or park near other vehicles as the vehicle can catch on fire, whether driving it or not. These requirements make my vehicle useless. I have called Jeep and was told I also cannot trade it in during a recall. I asked about compensation, or their providing transportation until a remedy is available, and was told that's not possible. This Jeep is obviously not safe and Jeep is not providing any solutions.
I have repeatedly been driving down the road then the jeep will instantly kick it out of gear while driving completely loses power so I have to pull over so I don’t get ran over and today. My electronic parking brake went out a second time in under a year because of the corrosion, every time it is kicked my transmission out of gear was a narrow escape from a wreck I reported this before but you don’t seem to care so I will be buying a cheap video recorder system and the first time I catch it on video. I will be filing a lawsuit against Jeep and your company for not even looking into it which I referred you to do
The emergency park brake engages by itself when the vehicle starts and it does not want to disengage. The system is engaging on it's own.
Water ingress into electronic parking brake module caused brake to lock and render vehicle immobile. Also caused battery drain and electrical issues due to shorting out.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the 4-WD inoperable warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and diagnosed with a power transfer unit failure with metal shavings inside the differential fluid; however, the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 114,303.
I parked my vehicle in my driveway without turning on the e-parking brake (it is in manual mode). In the morning when I got into the vehicle and put the car into reverse the e-park brake engaged and would not disengage. This was followed by a “service parking brake” message on the dash. I had to have the car towed to a mechanic who found water in the EPB module which was causing the issue. The water seemed to be coming in from some seams in the roof and running directly onto the module. The replacement of the module was very expensive and the car was inoperable for over 1 week.
Check engine light came on, so I took it to my mechanic. Cylinder 1 is bad. The vehicle has 75000 miles and the engine needs to be replaced or at minimum cylinder one has to be repaired. Very expensive repair. I have done regular maintenance and still have an engine problem. I thought the engine would be good for at least 300000.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated while driving at various speeds and depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle lunged into the next gear. The contact stated that the vehicle also lunged while downshifting. The vehicle also rocked backward abnormally. The contact stated there was no warning light illuminated. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a local dealer or independent mechanic to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
My vehicle was making a noise upon going around a right hand turn. I took it to the dealership and they informed me that bolts had fallen out of the power transfer unit. I was told that if this unit failed that I would be thrown through the front window. I spoke with Jeep and was told that they had no information regarding this issue and they made a note that it had happened. The refused to address the issue that I felt was a big safety issue as this would cause the vehicle to immediately stop. They claimed they had no control over the bolts falling out because of unknown interference from outside sources.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while her daughter was driving at various speeds, the vehicle was sputtering and then stalled. The "Shift to Park" message was displayed. The battery warning light was illuminated. The failure recurred after refueling. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer, who was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was later diagnosed and determined that the catalytic converter, oxygen sensor, vapor canister, spark plugs, charcoal canister, and filter. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure persisted. The manufacturer was not notified about the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 112,366.
While driving, at any speed, for any length of time (sometimes minutes, sometimes hours) the car will act like it is shifting to neutral, no matter how fast I am traveling, it’s happened at 10 mph and up. It’s random, no rhyme or reason. It has been in 4 shops since November and does not code for errors. No one has found the issue. It is unsafe as it will redline the rpm, make the accelerator useless, and the only cure is to drop the car into neutral and abruptly stop. This can lead to a serious accident as there is not time to come to a safe stop or pull over safely on certain roads. It appears like this may be the same issue as a recall from 2016, maybe the fix didn’t fix the hazard? Some lights flash on the dash. Immediately when it happens, the traction control light comes on, and occasionally the “service transmission” warning will briefly appear. My transmission has been checked multiple times now and it appears to be in good condition. One jeep dealer thought it could “maybe” be a transfer case issue as it wasn’t going into gear. They did the W20 recall and it hasn’t had that issue since. The red lining and apparent neutral shift is still happening. We had another shop give us a 2nd opinion on the transfer case, it was functional and nothing was wrong with it. Two shops concluded the transmission and transfer case were fine. We have had three diagnostics on the car, one came back with a faulty oil sensor, which turned out to be unplugged, however we replaced it anyway
I get error messages that say stop to shift. My car is an automatic, brake comes on when I haven’t touched it, it won’t drive sometime Won’t go forward or backwards, tire pressure errors, check engine light comes on when nothing is wrong now it won’t always start. The battery is at 14.2 I want a new car this one is crap
My car shuts off while driving and idling. I have taken it to a shop and they could not find anything wrong with it. I have also taken it to a dealership, it is on its third time in 6 months being there. They have gotten the car to shut off while driving it, but they do not know what is wrong with it, as there are no codes populating. I have put $2000 into this for issues that are not correcting the actual problem. This is a safety hazard, as I have almost been hit multiple times, because it is stalling out. I have contact Jeep corporate and they were in contact with me for a while, but now they will not answer my calls or emails. My dealership says they are at the point of making a case too, as no codes are being thrown and they do not know what is wrong with it. My children are scared to be in the car with me and this is my only vehicle. I am borrowing one now, but the person needs it back.
Leaking at the hatch watering getting into electronic parking brake module causing the parking brake to lock up and catch fire..
Upon coasting to a roundabout I was safe to continue however, when accelerating, the power to the wheels stopped and a harsh grinding noise occurred disabling me from driving anymore. I was almost hit and caused extreme concern for my safety and the safety of the passengers.
Pulling out of a parking spot and the vehicle just went into neutral and died.
As I was driving on an interstate highway, suddenly the brakes on my Jeep locked up and pulled over to the shoulder. The dashboard message was that there was a problem with the Parking Brake. After a few minutes the vehicle would move and I drove home. I called a service station and made an appointment to have it looked at but the brakes were now locked and the vehicle had to be towed. The mechanic said there was a problem with water in Parking Brake Control Module and the design would let in water which caused the problem. He said the module and connector needed replacement. The Jeep was then taken to a dealer who was the only one who could get the parts and make the repairs. The dangerous aspect was the brakes suddenly locking up on the highway.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated while driving at approximately 30 MPH, the gear shifter was forced into another gear and did not operate as intended. Additionally, the contact observed a loud clunking noise while changing gear. The transmission warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 74,000.
Body control module failed at 59,XXX miles. Vehicle could not read gears and wouldn't shift into gear. The second time the vehicle wouldn't shut off and continued to stay in run. Vehicle failed to read the right gear while driving. First warning light was service parking brake and service transmission. After that no warning lamps. After inspection the BCM failed and is a discontinued part for the vehicle. Was repaired at the dealer and 7 days later the vehicle failed with same issues and is currently undrivable. Purchased in Feb 16th 2023 and have had it on the road for 30 days total.

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
